Just signed up at Definition Fitness in Sylvania and I’m impressed already. Super clean space, solid equipment, and a great mix of machines and free weights. Been a part of the DF family since 2016 or so. In that time I've seen Marcus expand his business not only because of the continuous improvements to the equipment and training space, but primarily because he takes the time to build relationships with the members of his gym. He cares about his members and values their input. Further, DF is not just a gym for powerlifters or bodybuilders (although there are many serious ones who train here), people with varying levels of fitness and experience can and do feel very much at home here.

I’ve been a member at Definition Fitness for almost 6 years, and my husband has been going there since they first opened in 2012. We can honestly say this gym is one of the best in town. It’s a local, family-owned gem that truly makes you feel like part of their family. The gym is always clean, the equipment is constantly updated (unlike many places in the Toledo/Sylvania are) and the staff is incredibly respectful and welcoming. I tried several gyms in Sylvania, but never felt at home until I joined Defintion Fitness. Marcus and all the staff are personable, friendly and knowledgeable. The equipment is up to date - they are always bringing in the best machines that no other gym has, the gym is always clean and the environment is welcoming. I used to be a regular at this gym for a little over a year in 2024 but I’m beyond disappointed with how the owner handled a situation involving me and another member back in December of 2024. This person falsely accused me of things I didn’t do claiming I sent her harassing messages, which is a complete lie. Not once did the owner bother to ask me my side of the story or even question if these accusations were true when they were first brought to him. Instead, he just took the accuser’s word and ran with it. & After a non threatening verbal exchange I had with this person (that took place in this gym) he immediately revoked my membership, and my entire family’s membership. ( my daughter and husband) without asking me why I approached this individual. Had he done so I would have explained to him that as a woman this individual had shown (to me in my opinion) behavior that was unsettling to me as a wife and a woman. She was posted on a facebook page and was accused of allegedly doing some unsettling things, which immediately did not sit well with me, when this was someone I had just met & was building a (friendship) with, and Especially after the accuser posed publicly available pictures of herself in a play bunny outfit posing for a playboy ad.
Because of this mess, and people relaying back to me that she and the owner of this gym were telling others, that I was being investigated and etc ( which by the way is false) never once had any detective contact me EVER. I’ve had to hire an attorney, & file a cease and desist against the accuser (which has been served to her) I don’t take kindly to my name being dragged through the mud with baseless lies. I’ve posted all the proof on Facebook and Instagram to clear my name, and I’ll keep posting the truth until this is sorted. The owner’s failure to be fair and get both sides makes this place feel unwelcoming, especially for people of color like myself. It seems when a woman of a certain color (not black) says anything it’s just believed without question. Do better!

In response to you: Your are the one who stated previously your soul reasoning for terminating my entire family’s membership is because the baseless lies that were first brought to you, and then my verbal exchange was like what broke the camels back, so makes absolutely no sense when the first accusation was a LIE. Furthermore, it’s odd how my husband and daughter were standing closer to us than your trainer was and heard none of my words. My husband had to ask what was said to her no one was near enough to hear anything you had music playing and no one was yelling or got loud. No one went to disrupt anything I was called by my child with concerns and I wanted to address them right then there’s no law that says I can’t nor anywhere in your contract where it says that either. There was no violence or threatening words exchanged.

And as far as my personal career, I know better enough than to just take one side of what someone says and run with it. I’ve been in the gym management business for over 10 years. There are more professional ways to handle situations, example there are also things that we call giving warnings and having one on one talks with people before just terminating and believing one side of things so no as a general manager of a gym, I would never handle things the way you did.
Me addressing an issue accurately and legally as a consumer has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO do with my career. Like I said DO BETTER. My continuance about this is because you and the member were telling people false information on what happened that day. As anyone would they will make sure their side is heard.
Update as of April 2025: this man the owner of definition (Marcus) has yet to apologize for believing false allegations which have been proven they were baseless and All lies. I also forgot to mention the reason this is such a controversy issue is because he allowed the LYING PARTY to continue having a membership at his gym even still to this day knowing she lied about her accusations.

I joined Definition back in 2012 when it first opened and never looked back. I've been a member of several gyms around the Toledo and surrounding areas, and Definition is simply the best.

The owner is very much in touch with his members and fosters a mature and respectful environment. Weights are racked, the gym is clean, machines are all in great working order, and the community is unmatched. There have been several updates to the gym based on the owner's engagement with his members by listening to their ideas and needs.

If you're looking for a gym in the area, I would strongly recommend this place. It's able to satisfy the requirements and environment of anyone brand new to the fitness world, all the way to veteran lifters.

Lastly, no hidden fees, no annual or bi-annual surprise charges. Straight forward pricing without a contract. Highly recommended overall.

Strongly recommend joining this gym, I have been a member of other gyms and never gone but this one is different. Over the last few years this gym was consistently one of the cleanest public places (yes, during COVID), both the common areas and bathrooms with showers. Members are a wide range of folks and most are friendly while mainly focused on their workouts. Very strict rules about filming so it truly is a safe and healthy gym. Always room in their parking lot and convenient location just off of Central and King.
The quality of personal training is world class. When you are willing do the work of healthy diet and proper recovery, this is whom can help you get from a local competitor to a world ranked athlete.
Only bad part about joining this gym is moving and having to find another.

I came here a couple of weeks ago with a friend to try it out and I loved it! I cancelled my planet fitness membership and switched over to this place. The owner is friendly and extremely generous, the gym is clean, and I love the size of it! It’s small enough that there aren’t a ton of people there and you can’t do your own thing without being stared down by anyone, but big enough to where they have many advanced machines and options for working out! I needed something a little more advanced for where I am at on my fitness journey, and this place is perfect for me. They are currently expanding and I can’t wait! I joined at just the right time!

The owner, Markus Zapata, is my trainer and I appreciate his very professional guidance in devising a weight training and cardio program for me that has gradually allowed me to gain strength, balance and confidence. Great place to workout!. I did not start working out until I was in my fifties, and had tried many different gyms but did not stick with any of them. I have been at Definition Fitness since it opened almost four years ago and have continued to work out regularly every week. I'm getting ready to relocate and move to Toledo from Detroit in February this year. I've been "shopping around" in Toledo for a place to workout and even potentially look for a place to train some clients and this place is hands down the cleanest around and most welcoming around. I dropped in to simply check the place out and the owner Mark acknowledged me and gave a "hello, welcome" even though he was in the middle of training a client. I waited around to chat with him and he was very courteous and friendly.

Other positive things is that is has more than enough top notch equipment and it is 24/7 with an access key card to members. I does not have a pool, track or anything of those sorts though but that isn't a big deal for myself or anybody just looking to get some weight training or cardio in. It seems to be a more service based and personal training type of gym versus a big commercial gym.
