It’s my favorite YMCA of them all , they are so kind and helpful and courteous. I have a real sense of community when I’m in this particular building . Disappointed with my first visit here. I usually go to a different Y but I saw on the app they had a class I was interested in. When I got there the staff was friendly but barely helped me and they seemed confused and didn’t really know there was a class scheduled. Kinda made me feel like an idiot.

A very nice Y! It's downtown and I've usually gone to the ones in the far out suburbs, but this was a beautiful Y. Very friendly staff and people.

Nice pool for laps or water exercise. It's a warmer pool than most I've been to for laps which is great for me. I'm not a fan of cold water.

Not super crowded in the pool, but the workout floor and gym have a good group even during the day.

I like the space and would recommend it.

I can’t say enough good things about the Tuesday evening Water Zumba class! The instructor is absolutely fantastic—so creative, upbeat, and, most of all, FUN. Each class feels like a dance party in the water, and the way she leads us makes working out feel effortless (but trust me, we are getting a real workout!). AND A SHOUT OUT TO THE AMAZINGLY, AWESOME LIFEGUARD!

I love how we’re laughing, moving, and enjoying ourselves the whole time, yet I leave feeling like I’ve really accomplished something. After class, I sleep like a baby—so relaxed and refreshed. And the best part? The next day, I always have a noticeable boost in energy. It’s the perfect combination of fitness and fun, and I actually look forward to every session.

My first experience swimming at a YMCA at this location was not the best. The nice lady at the front desk told me the pool would open at 4. When the pool opens the lifeguard is nowhere to be found and she came out at about 4:10. I decide to hop in the pool because she had spent 10 minutes just standing by the pool and I was berated by said lifeguard (don’t know her name) to get out of the pool because she was ‘not ready’. How am I supposed to know if you’re ready or not when you decide to just stand by the pool and have a nice conversation with everyone else except me? So I then decided to dry off because I didn’t want to deal with someone’s poor attitude. At about 4:15 she rudely says ‘okay you can get in now’. I have no clue why she had such a condescending attitude towards me, but was nice to everyone else who was there to swim. I didn’t mean any trouble, I was just there to swim and I didn’t feel like I deserved to be talked to like that. I gave two stars because everyone else working here is kind, however, I will not be back to this location as I feel uncomfortable being around someone, especially a lifeguard, who treated me like I was less than a human being.

I wish I could give zero stars. Extremely poor communication and from management at this location. I contacted management several ways and was ignored for months. When I finally got the manager Aja on the phone I was told a lie as to why I hadn’t received a call back. I have never experienced the level of service, and condescending communication from any other YMCA location. Please do better.

Definitely a lot more rundown than any others, and the workout machines all have at least one thing broken on them. Good luck getting a good workout in. If you expect to use the pool, make sure and call to see if it's open. If you follow the schedule online, you will be disappointed because they don't follow it. Rather, they just have it open and closed whenever they see fit. If you need to ask someone at the front desk a question, good luck. Chances are they are too busy talking amongst themselves to really care that you exist. The only good employee I've encountered is April, she's awesome. The rest I could do without. Just a rude, lazy, broken ymca. I'll be driving 20 min to another one, instead of this one from now on. I know leaving a review won't do anything for management to change things, but hopefully, it will warn others. Disappointed.

They have some of the best equipment the other locations don't have. The tricep and ab machine specifically. The locker room and pool area is smaller than the other locations but the hot tub is the best one in town. The staff at this location is the best. Today, I drove 2 hours to sign my 84 year old mother up with a membership at this YMCA so that she and her sister can work out together.
The customer service by the Director/ Coordinator of Membership was excellent. She was prompt, efficient, welcoming, and affirming of my elderly mother. The clientele was younger, respectful, and friendly. I was grateful for all the support. Nicely renovated facility. I am very pleased with my initial experience.

I go here everyday an I am never able to use the sauna . You aren’t allowed in the sauna if no life guard is on duty even if you are an adult . And half the time the life guard is on duty but you still can’t use the sauna because there is kids in the pool . Makes no sense . Do not recommend this YMCA

The weight lifting area is much too small. The same for the hot tub. It's not much bigger than a bath tub. The rest of the facility is on point including a nice swimming pool with a 9 foot deep end and a nice conference room with tables and chairs to talk and eat. Also nice basketball courts.

PREDATORY FEES TO KEEP OUT LOW INCOME CUSTOMERS!!!

Columbus YMCA chargers $20 fees for declines on membership fees, and lies and says it's because it's the same as the fee they get from their payment processor. In reality, declined transactions cost them less than $.20, and the fee will usually only be paid by low income customers. I believe the only reasonable explanation is that YMCA sees low income customers as people who's membership should be discouraged, and have put them in a position to either get more money or keep out "undesirables".

* Front desk staff and the director from NY are always positive, helpful, engaged, welcoming, and overall seem genuinely interested in making this a pleasant space for members. Lots of friendly familiar faces. Hands down, the best YMCA staff in the area. Even the janitor/maintenance worker is social and kind.

* Lots of community engagement and sharing or relevant information to members' interests

* Strategic focus on meeting the unique social, cultural and health needs of the specific communities they serve

* Affordable and conveniently located. This is the only full gym to serve several neighborhoods

* A wonderful and much needed social and fitness resource for senior citzens

Cons:
* ** Most of the cons are due to what seems to be inadequate funding being allocated to this particular location in comparison
to other YMCA locations in the area rather than shortcomings of the staff

* Much of the equipment is old, poorly functioning, broken and/or outdated. Some of the weights are missing. Nearby YMCAs in wealthier and whiter neighborhoods, like Gahanna, already had nicer and newer equipment but they recently received additional funding to get even newer equipment, meanwhile this location equipment is struggling.

* The place is always dusty. I always feel disgusted doing anything that requires me to be on the floor even with my mat. So I stopped and needed to go other gyms. The amount of dust, hair, and other miscellaneous debris on the floor and trapped on the base of the equipment makes me gag.

* Not enough equipment. There is only one bench press machine and sure enough, there is always some older woman hugging the bench for other types of workouts instead of using a regular bench

* Operation hours. Less and somewhat inconvenient open hours than other YMCA hours

IDEAL IMPROVEMENTS (Easier said than done):

* Increase operation hours. This gym should have the same accessible hours that wealthier and whiter neighborhoods have

* Investments in equipment. This gym does not meet the needs of many people in the community and we have to commute further distances to have access to a decent gym. To help improve the walkability of our community, we should have fully functioning community resources that are on par with the standards of comparable resources in other communities.

* A DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP clean of the facility followed by intensive monthly cleanings as well

* Increase in the frequency, intensity and diversity of fitness classes offerings

Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a primary gym to maintain/improve their health and fitness unless they are a senior citizens. This YMCA shines as a community resource center and has a lot of potential, but as it, it is not a reliable gym.

I joined the YMCA because they have a swimming pool. Everything was fine and all the staffs were friendly. And I had been going there for at least 10 months for swimming. I was not diving or doing anything crazy until one day there was this silver hair life guard lady and I o Lu saw her 2 times in the 10 months I was going there. She came to tell me that I can’t hold my breath in the water too long and she will ask me to leave if I do it again. I felt very uncomfortable when she said that to me. I felt very threatened by her. Why make myself upset by some random person that I have no desire to get to know on my days off in the morning . So I decided to stop going to the Y and cancelled my membership. Maybe learn how to talk in the way doesn’t sound threatening as a life guard when people didn’t break your general rules on the wall.
