Definitely loved the old location a little more because it’s more spacious, but the new one is starting to warm up on me., I just ask that maybe someone could clean after hours it’s pretty rough when I get there between 1-130, paper towels everywhere also maybe some exterminating, i see lots of red ants and spiders and just weird insects in the locker rooms and going into them., the sauna has been down for awhile just wondering will it be up soon locker rooms are pretty small but I’m there to get my workout in I also have 3 other gyms because I enjoy using different equipment and different atmospheres , fitworks equipment is 10 out of 10 but they did let go of some really good old equipment that I truly miss but I still love it this is my honest review!

Really disappointed in the new facility. I have been a member of the club for over 20 years but will be cancelling my membership and looking elsewhere.
When I first entered the new space, I immediately noticed the lack of air flow. It was very warm and stuffy.
I looked to the cardio area and was sad to see the lack of variety in machines. The area is dominated by treadmills and stair machines - the 2 most limiting cardio machines for people whith back and knee problems. They had 3 different ellipital machines at the old gym that i used regularly. The new gym elliptical machines are all the same and do not have an incline that can be adjusted.
The weight lifting equipment in the new space is very crammed together. It's difficult to walk around and even get full range of motion in some cases.
Having to fight for parking is also not ideal. A single person restroom for a space that size has to be illegal. They should have stayed in the old location. They had a good thing going there.

Was better when it was at the end of the plaza now their parking makes it terrible for Americas best and Fuji worst idea ever they need to tell their people to park WAY far in the back. Y'all health nuts can walk the 90 year olds trying to eat or get glasses get screwed

I have loved being a fitworks member (aside from the literally criminal billing company) for probably 7 or more years now, so I am very disappointed to see them change their business model so drastically.

Before, it was a real gym, with real regulars, a great upbeat atmosphere, clean machines, etc.

They have transitioned to something I can only compare to a kind of “elderly anytime fitness” blended with a moody influencer space that isn't designed for actual use, or other small, inexpensive gyms catering to older folks that want to say they have a gym but never go.

If that sound impossibly dysfunctional, that's because it is.

Its sad too, not just because of what members lost, but also because it seems like they put a lot of effort into the space. The effort though, was sorely misdirected, and could have been prevented with a properly consultant, knowledge, or some other experts to prevent this disaster of a “new coke 2.0.”

New location is easily less than one third the useable space, if not a fourth. Its tough to quanitfy because they packed so much into such a small space, that its like that college auxiliary gym in an old mat storage room that every college has.

Equipment volume of key pieces also took a hit, and good luck ever using the function of nal fitness area, cables, or other larger pieces. But really the cramped square footage and complete lack of open space for walkways, excercising with kettlebells and freeweights, stretching, or even enough room around equipmen weights to access or move anything kills any chance of actual gym goers continuing their membership.

The new location is designed to say “we look like a gym in photos” without any real substance of a functional gym.

The second biggest loss is the physical environment. Not only did it become super dark and moody, with sunlight significantly curtailed from above and in front, but the sound problems in the space result in headaches rather quickly. Sound insulation and dampening as a combo could resolve the noise issues, along with better speakers. But there's no profitable way to fix the light problems without not just a new ceiling and wall paint job, but on the far more expensive side, adding skylights, and moving the exercise class room to the back.

What made them paint the ceiling black and the walls dark gray in a space with hardly any exterior light or interior lighting is beyond human comprehension.

Fitworks is a part of my day I used to look forward too, now its beyond dreary, noisy, and a place I cant wait to leave.

The third major issue is the exercise class area. While I never used the old one, I spoke to some of the ladies there I know from seeing them daily at the old location, and they all noted that they are looking at other locations for classes. They have been made to feel very uncomfortable with the new layout, and like its a “peeping toms paradise.” They are forced to be fish in a fishbowl for the hometown buffet attendees and the gym patrons walking in front with literally a couple of feet of the class attendees.

The biggest issue of all is the loss of community. Not only because this gym will either go out of business, or become one of those gym nobody uses, but because there is quite literally no space for anyone to chat and get to know each other. And if you want someone to spot you, good luck, there's no room. The functional fitness areas is so cramped that the only place to use the equipment is immediately (within inches not feet) of where you access the equipment, which means only one person can use the area at one time due to its width and the equipment locations.

Overall, this is a real bummer. Especially because it was billed as a “major upgrade.”

Maybe they were losing money before and needed to transition business models. Or maybe this is a bigger failure than “new coke.” but either way, I signed up for Titans today, and the Fitworks era has died. If the owner sees this, best of luck, sincerely, im sorry to see my gym go. And Ps, I need to cancel my membership.

I really have loved working out at fitworks in mentor. However I’m very disappointed with the new location. Went from spacious and comfortable to cramped. They also got rid of some really good machines. I was excited for the new location as I was expecting an upgrade, but instead it was a significant downgrade in my opinion. The rent must be cheaper at this location, because there’s no way management could see this spot as an upgrade. 2 stars instead of 1 because of how much I loved the old gym.

I am never the person to post negative reviews but I have had such a bad experience with Fitworks that this has felt warranted. I moved far out of state but had forgotten to cancel my membership before leaving so I called to request help cancelling. They told me that they would pass the message along to their manager to reach me. After this did not happen, I called again and was given a manager's email that I never heard a response from after multiple attempts. I flew back for Christmas and decided to cancel in person since I had been ignored/told I'd be reached out to and they allowed this but said I would have to pay for December. I was fine with this as it seemed to be the end of this headache. Fast forward and I have been charged for January as well.

Sad to see a business employ such slimy tactics.

I really enjoy going to the gym and I’ve been at this gym for so long. It has an ample amount of amenities and equipment, and an amazing atmosphere. It’s a shame to leave a subpar review on this place but it’s been going down hill for a while and something needs to be done about this location. First and foremost this place goes through managers like socks which is such a shame because the staff and trainers are fantastic. It’s unfortunate they have to deal with this dysfunctional gym. Every manager has different ideas and ways of doing things which some are good and some are ridiculous. Most of these attempts are exercises in futility because the next manager has to deal with sloppy seconds. The last manager actually was able to get some renovations done, (which are nice improvements) but since he left nothing has continued for months. Painting was amongst these improvements and it takes a month to paint a single wall as it’s being done by one person who’s here once a month. Another serious issue is cleanliness. Compared to other gyms it’s not the worst but it’s progressively getting worse. The machines and equipment are disgusting and they are getting filthier by the day. This should be done on a daily basis and the management and upper management needs to figure out how to deal with that situation. Lastly they raise membership rates without giving a notice even though the signup contracts states they will notify you. I know a number of fellow members who have to deal with this asinine situation time and time again. I know many of the staff and members and the amount of management issues I’ve heard are disturbing, especially upper level management. They’ll come in to “rectify” situations and observe operations and never actually fix anything, just play the blame game and point fingers. I hope this place turns around soon because I’m looking for other gyms.

I love Fitworks! I started at Planet Fitness but needed something with a bit more equipment, Fitworks had everything I needed! There are lots of things to do here. They have classes like spin, yoga, and others! It’s nice because the gym is 24/7 now, I can work out at 3am if I wanted. The front desk workers are very kind and the manager is a cool guy!

Have a memberships to Fitworks and Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness is way less and offers more for your money, tanning/massage/kids are free to work out if with me. Only reason at Fitworks is I’ve been there for nearly 20yrs and its routine plus the free weights. Staff is great but overpriced and equipment lacks updates/service. Mostly everything’s original and could use an update. This won’t change and I except that. Any the annual “maintenance fee” is a joke add up the amount of member plus that fee should be able to get more than 1-4 updated(maybe new or fixed) pieces of equipment. Maybe some new carpet/paint at minimum

And I canceled my membership in February because they were so annoying and now they charged me randomly for April when I’m moving back from college but I canceled my account months ago. So now I have to do more paperwork AGAIN and get refunded AGAIN. Ridiculous that this is the third or fourth time.

I loved this place. I was going to Fitworks for about three years, but then I had to move due to my career. The staff is amazing, the facility is always kept up, and they have a lot of different types of equipment to satisfy anyone's needs, when it comes to fitness goals. I was bummed out there wasn't a Fitworks near my new location. I miss that place, the staff, and the everyday workout crew I saw at about 5 am.

Was looking for a gym that had a bit of free weights, machines, and cardio. Originally was going to pick up running again and so glad I picked this gym because it has room to grow. I wasn't stuck with cardio and just machines with a sprinkle of free weights like with other gyms. The atmosphere is very friendly because of the staff. Almost always a smile at the desk, that includes third shift people which is so difficult to do. A warm hello and good bye as you leave. The people that work out here are also friendly which is a huge deal. I was so intimidated going to the free weight floor. Once I got there, no one I felt was judging me. Everyone is doing their thing and is happy to assist you. Signed up for a month or two of personal training. Harrison is a pro, he works with you and goes beyond the PT room to help outside of PT sessions. Warm, friendly, and pumped to get you where you want. It's so worth it to transition from Planet fitness if you're thinking about it. Or finding your first gym like I was. This is the place to call your gym.

Giving only 3 stars.
Recently corporate cut childcare hours from 8 till 7.30 pm, so basically now many parents who can't come early because they work, don't have time to workout. I spoke to several parents, and some say now they can't come at all, because if they start working out at 7, and have to pick up the child at 7.30, it's better not to come at all.
Very poor decision was made by the corporate, it does not benefit already struggling parents. Cutting hours has nothing to do with COVID, it only saves couple dollars to fitworks. Pathetic move.

The manager offered to give me a little refund, but the thing is: I don't mind paying. I want the service.

Second, this club is expensive, but I don't mind. I was paying extra because they have sauna, that's a big deal for me, but now with Covid restrictions sauna is closed, and their membership price needs to be adjusted I'd say in half, for the inconvenience. I brought it up to the manager, they can only offer to freeze account. Doesn't make sense. So you still pay a full amount for less services or sit at home.

In the past, I was experiencing a constant battle with obnoxious or offensive language music, especially loud in changing area. You really need noise cancelling headphones to workout. Can't relax in sauna listening to "underticke my tummy, babe". This music needs to be appropriate for all ages, even my daughter was asking me uncomfortable questions. Mentioned this to the manager 3 yr ago, and a yr ago. They have changed it for about half a year. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad again.

I would love to give 5 stars to their staff ONLY. They are the best, super friendly, no complains there. Everyone is doing their absolute best. Facility is really clean.

But for the poor corporate decisions I'd stay with 3 stars.

Very basic 'fitness center' more catered to newer people with tons of cardio equipment, about 75% of total floor space is cardio equipment, and a cardio theater. Lots of classes, cannot attest to the quality besides spinning, its adaquate. Sauna almost always works/on, in mens room, very clean locker room showers etc.

My biggest complaint is missing equipment. Only 2 squat racks, no deadlift platform, no power lifting equipment (beyond the basic, barbells/dumbbells), a no chalk policy LOL, NOT A SINGLE OVERHEAD PRESS, dumbbells only go to 110, . Expect a couple the benches (out of 4 BB and 6 adjustable) to be used as a coffee table, ie holding water bottles, notes, magazines etc.

Generally its friendly, just very new and ignorant members. A couple pet peeves, super-setting and asking people to leave both pieces of equipment, which is against their policy but happens all the time, trainers and users both think they are entitled. ie You goto a piece of equipment, and someone walks up to you saying they are using that. Then walk back to something else. People also stand right against dumbbell racks, other racks, blocking access, or use a barbell bench, or 1 of the 2 squat racks as a curl station. Its piss poor etiquette and many do it, including the people that THINK they are experts.

Demographic wise, middle aged white 70/30 men/women. During school breaks fills with many high school and college kids. They seem fine.

Overall for the low price its good. Its not so sparse you can't go to something else, but expect to wait if you want certain things. But missing a lot if your used to larger more complete gym.

TL/DR
Missing some basic and many advanced equipment
Typical fitness centered focused on cardio
Lots of classes and clean locker rooms
Low price on a deal

Fitworks has a solid complement of free weights, machines, and functional strength training equipment. The training floor is grouped logically which makes for good training flow and minimal downtime moving between exercises. The lockers and shower area are kept clean and they even have a dry sauna.

I haven't seen any gym in this area so well equipped. Fitworks has ~4 times the number of cardio machines (treadmill, elliptical, bikes) as their newest competitor and a greater variety (step mills, rowing machines). Same for Fitworks' strength training gear... lots more of it, multiples of many pieces of equipment, and a much greater variety of equipment. This means more workout variety, good flow in your workouts, and less waiting to use equipment

Fitworks listens to their customers. When asked to provide more lower weight dumbbells (5,8,10,12,15 lbs), they gave us multiple sets in not just the free weight area but also in the cross training area. They also provided the light weights (2 and 3#) I need for my rotator cuff rehab program.

If you are serious about strength conditioning or cardio, there really isn't a better gym in Mentor.

I liked the club well enough. It was inexpensive. Great selection of equipment. The staff is not overly friendly, but they are not rude. So, taking it at face value-- a budget fitness club-- I'd give it 4 stars.

Watch out for their contracts -- they auto-renew.

I moved CA, 2500 miles from the nearest facility at the end of my contract. It auto-renewed, and they automatically debited my account for a few months before I caught it. Once I did, though, they were friendly and worked with me to override it.

It annoyed me at first, until I realized it was an industry standard. When moving from LA Fitness to Gold's Gym in Los Angeles, I had to mail a letter declaring my intentions. I do not like the practice, but even the YMCA adopts it.

Mentor Fitworks is amazing!!! I've been a member here for the past couple years now and have had no complaints. Everyone that is on their staff is a genuinely nice and CARING person!! Starting with the member reps and front desk, I have seen them go out of their way to help people with problems and questions! They explained every step in detail when I joined and have had no problems since! Kelly, the owner operator, definitely knows what she’s doing by surrounding herself with great people including her assistant Ashley. I recently joined there Team training boot camp (after giving me a 4 class tree trial to see if I liked it) and I'm addicted!! The trainers that teach the class are phenomenal and very understanding. I cheered at Akron University and played sports in high school and didn't think it would be worth it compared to training I did for those sports but I was definitely wrong! Strongly recommend at least stopping in and checking it out. No doubt it's the best gym around.

I Love Mentor Fitworks. It Frickin' Rocks. I finally started doing TRX Training (google it) after resisting for a year, and lost 22 pounds my first ten weeks. I joined the Team Training when it started a couple months ago, and my workouts got even better. What happens, is you end up doing more workouts, because it is a flat fee per month, and the more workouts you do, the less cost per session. Sounds weird, but it works for me, and everyone else that is into the Team Training that I have talked to about it. The trainers are so good it's ridiculous. These people should be out in Hollywood training movie stars for real money. I would single a couple of the trainers out, but they are all so good, it's difficult to judge. Another nice thing about being in training classes, is you don't have to think, you just do what the trainers tell you. It almost becomes passive. Just show up, and you can't go wrong. It's habit forming.
