I’ve lived in many different states over the last 10 years, and I have never found a gym like FFASC. It’s truly one of a kind, it’s the best of the best! Before joining, I knew very little about lifting or the fundamentals of fitness, but the knowledge, technique, and lifelong skills that Justin and Jermail teach are unmatched.

Of all the gyms I’ve tried, my favorite memories come from FFASC…doing cleans (over and over) with my 5:30am crew, learning a proper deadlift, hitting new PRs…etc. If you want to learn more about fitness and build real strength in a safe, welcoming, and empowering environment (especially as a female), this is your sign. FFASC will change your life in more ways than you can imagine.

I have known Jermail for years, I took classes from him when he was teaching bootcamps out of Anytime Fitness. Not only is he one of the most competent and motivating trainers I have ever met, he genuinely cares about helping you achieve your goals. So when it was time for my 12 year old son to start learning proper form and technique of fitness, it was an easy decision to reach out to Jermail at his current location. For the last two years Jermail has helped my son grow physically and mentally starting out with core strength, balance and mobility, to moving into free weight lifts. Recently, my now 12 year old daughter began training with Jermail as well. Both of my children enjoy going and are constantly being pushed to give their best effort. The other trainer at this location is Jermail’s brother and though I haven’t had the opportunity to work with him I do see how he works with his clients and he is also a very knowledgeable professional. If you’re looking for a location to get back into working out, take your lifts to the next level, or someplace you can send your kids to learn correctly, I strongly recommend you stop by and gives these guys an opportunity to show you what they’re all about.

I'm thrilled to have found FFASC a few years ago! The members are a friendly blend of beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes. I find great value working under the expert eyes of the Porter brothers. They safely challenge your exertion across their cyclical programming. Justin and Jermail's lifeblood is fitness: they know the classic techniques and the newest trends and will articulately answer any questions. I attend the ASC and 300 classes the most, finding enough variety to engage the whole body but no superfluous movements. I've tried high intensity group fitness, rec centers, power lifting gyms, personal trainers, and have not been sustainably in such good shape as at FFASC. Thank you!

The gym was always an intimidating place for me until one of my friends told me how great FFASC was. So I gave it a try and have been going ever since, about 10 years now. Sustainable, Efficient & Effective Training!!
Functional Fitness offers a variety of classes that you can tailor to suit your needs & fitness goals. As a former athlete, I struggled with finding a workout routine that kept me in shape and motivated on a routine basis. FFASC just does that. With a good mix of cardio and weight training options, this has been the best way for me to exercise regularly & feel strong & fit. Justin & Jermail are extremely knowledgeable and innovative with the workouts they create – I never get bored or feel like the workouts are repetitive. This place is awesome and I wish I found it sooner! Justin and Jermail are super laid-back and welcoming (the member community they've built is the same). They're super passionate about what they do and produce highly effective workouts. The 300 in 30 class is like orange theory but more efficient, targeted, and personalized. Affordable and high value. I found FFASC via Google two and half years ago while I was looking for a place to lift during the winter as my garage gym is not heated.

Coming from someone who went to OSU and has experience at the RPAC, I can easily say FFASC is my favorite gym in Ohio.

Here's why:

1) Expert coaching

Justin and Jermail's expertise is straight forward with zero fluff.
They have D1 NCAA and professional sports experience (NFL). They personalize all their advice to you with respect to your goals, effort level, and current fitness. They also offer private coaching for the try-hards.

I started lifting solo with Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength program in June '21. I joined this gym in November '22. Based on the progress and results since I joined FFASC I will never lift without a coach again.

2) Affordable

The value here is easily the best money I spend every month. This gym is easily worth 3X what they charge. In NYC or LA it would be 5-7X per month. Don't get any ideas! ;)

3) Well structured

The workouts are class structured where everyone does the same workout together. Each workout is circuit training with active rest. The workouts are posted online daily. If you can show up all you have to do is execute and not waste your time thinking on what to work on next.

Each class is easily the most efficient hour of my day. The classes are weekly and predictable supporting both AM and PM schedules.

4) Supportive and diverse fitness peer group

This gym comes with a built-in diverse, highly motivated, and supportive lifting peer group. Any age, gender, whatever demographic is already here. The people always make the place.

I could glaze on and on but the first week is free so just try it for yourself.

I had a membership at a conventional gym while also having my FFASC membership recently because my wife and I had our second child and I was only able to work out really late at night and I cancelled that as quickly as I could. I’ve been a member of FFASC for about 13 years and I can not go back to a conventional gym again even if I have a 3rd kid. I’ll figure out how to make it to FFASC. Workout classes are 1-hour max and in that hour you get more done than 99% of people do in multiple hours at a conventional gym. They are challenging but also very fun because the people that work out here are friendly and they push one another to be their very best. Not ready for a class atmosphere yet? No problem. Everyday there are several hours set aside as “open gym” hours where you can go in and do your own thing at your own pace. As a member, even if you don’t go to a class and are an open gym rat (like me) you have access to all the workouts that have been posted online so you can do the same workout that classes have done that day. Best part is you NEVER have to wait for a rack or machine to free up. The owners are two of the hardest working and knowledgable guys that I know. If you’re looking to increase strength, cardio endurance or even if you’re just starting your fitness journey they have workouts & classes tailored for it all. And I should also mention they both do personal training as well. Really can’t say enough good things about this gym, it is one of my favorite places to be!

FFASC will be more than what you are looking for in a gym. Trainers, Justin and Jermail, succeeded at creating a program that builds both your strength and skill with regular attendance. They have designed a small class size where they are attentive to members learning to lift safely and they are able to provide you detailed instruction on improving your lifting movements. Inside their programming, they have an individualized level system where your own lifting percentages are guided by them to ensure your time and effort is maximized in the gym. The trainers closely monitor the group’s overall progression and address accordingly any areas of weakness they see in the whole group. Their programming is a trusted resource as Justin and Jermail not only have strong educations and varied experience in their backgrounds, but they have an ongoing passion for knowledge. They are always reading, sharing, collaborating, researching, basically breathing, health and fitness information to apply to their program or be a resource for you.

And if all of this has not exceeded your expectations of what a gym can offer, the environment they created will do it. Apart from other gyms that have tunnel vision on numbers and competition, FFASC members work collaboratively and positively together. Members encourage each other, sometimes work as a team on sets, and get excited about challenges. Whether it be as simple as cleaning up and cooling down together, or as wild as carrying someone over a hill in an outdoor set, FFASC sets the tone for building friendships and memories as part of the experience that just won’t compare to other gyms!

I’ve trained at FFASC for 2 years now and it’s been a top notch experience. The trainers are friendly, engaging and authentically care about what condition your body is in, what your goals are and giving you proven workouts to get you where you want to be. My adventure with FFASC began sometime around 2011/2012 when I started attending Jermail's exercise bootcamp in a small room on the backside of a commerical gym. It was in that same room that FFASC began & slowly started to evolve- from free weights, TRX, medicine balls, and sleds to getting their first set of barbells, squat racks, and handily-made lifting platforms. The Porter brothers (Justin and Jermail) continuously put in effort to study and incorporate the most beneficial aspects from a variety of exercises. As a result, FFASC expanded & eventually became what is it now. Throughout this journey, Justin and Jermail have created a community of friends, family, and fun competition. I have experienced fun times socializing at the gym's annual tailgate and Christmas parties. I have built upon my resilience by participating in the rigorous yet creative training the gym held in preparation to run the Spartan Race as one collective team. Even in my few years away from the gym pursuing other hobbies, I have always recommended FFASC to anyone looking to improve their physical or mental wellbeing. Having recently returned to FFASC, it feels like I never left. One big thing I love about this gym is that I do not have to write my own program, I just come in and follow the workouts. I love that they are designed to make you more functional. I have had quite a handful of injuries from BJJ, Krav, rugby, moshpits, and who knows what else. The Porter brothers are well-adapted to modifying techniques and exercises due to injuries. It goes without saying that this gym and the Porter brothers obviously are the real-deal, and I can happily say I am both challenged and supported by Justin, Jermail, and the FFASC community.

Decided to join because I kept getting workout injuries, my workout plan had been the same for months/years, and wasn’t progressing on my mobility and strength.
Joining FFASC was THE best decision I’ve ever made.

No gimmicks, no bullshit, just great programming. The owners Justin and Jermail know what they are doing, end of story. It took one of my bestfriends about a year and half to convince me to join the gym. I was feeling down about being out of shape since I stopped playing sports/dance. I finally decided what the hell I have to do something. I signed up and they've been stuck with me ever since (around 13 years). They offer small group classes/personal training. It is perfect for beginners to athletes. They will accommodate to whatever their clients needs are. The program never gets dull/boring, they make sure they're always improving upon/providing the most effective and efficient 45 minute workout. I got my sister to take personal training sessions with Justin while she was in high school and she is currently a starter for a D1 college in rugby. Justin helped her abilities grow into one of the top athletes in the country. They have cultivated a nonjudgmental, hard work, and fun environment. I've made friends here and feel like we are family. Why would you not try a free week of classes? What's the worst thing that can happen? You sweat a little or a lot a bit and decide it's not for you or you ended up finding the best kept secret to staying healthy and in shape with the FFASC family. Weight classes, cardio classes, personal training, group training AND YOGA! ....I have been coming to Functional Fitness located in the Warren Village Plaza (The DMV and Giant Eagle Side) in West Park Cleveland...6 minutes from Fairview Hospital...for about 10 years...I'm 43 years old...and I am STILL in the best shape of my life. Functional Fitness Cleveland ans just a gym...is absolutely perfect for EVERY LEVEL of fitness! The great thing is that it is focused training (45 minutes in and out) and it's full body. The trainers Jermail and Justin track your performance and fitness and will cater the workout to fit your needs privately and as a group. I enjoy the group workout classes because I love the fun atmosphere with awesome workouts that are balanced and badass! I like that the trainers Jermail and Justin have a new workout every day that gets me working out areas of fitness I may be putting off if I went to the gym by myself! Functional Strength Training is great for building muscle with a new "class" built every day...300 in 30 is a hardcore full body HIIT style circuit training workout. The intro to functional fitness class is a great starter class in the first week. I stumbled into the gym one day because it's conveniently located across from Giant Eagle and made the mistake of joining one of the high intensity workout classes - it was a very tough first class. However, I kept going back because the trainers create a welcoming environment where they train you without judgement. It's all about getting better each week.

Great gym, have been going for just over 6 years now. I had never lifted barbell weights before joining this gym, but Justin and Jermail help newcomers ease into the workouts. If you’re not into weight lifting with the barbell, there are also other classes such as the HIIT classes which are quick and enjoyable.

I really love how Functional Fitness has helped me. I moved out of the area a number of years ago and struggled to find support for my physical fitness that really focused on my needs. I am able to join the remote program, which had provided me with a custom workout plans tailored to the equipment I have access to. Including videos of the workouts so I know EXACTLY what I should be doing. I recently had 2 kids and for both kids I was able to work with them for rebuilding my strength postpartum, while protecting all the changes my body was going through. Thank you for everything!

I have been to various gyms and CrossFit boxes and none have given me the kind of well-rounded strength I have been looking for. Never had an injury here, the trainers have a breadth and depth of knowledge reserved for pro athlete training. They push you hard and make you laugh along the way. Hands down, this is the best gym in Cleveland (I’m prepared to say the best gym anywhere, but at this point I will not be joining any other gyms… I’ve found my home). It’s certainly the best gym I’ve ever been a part of. Whether you’re looking to get in, get your workout done, and get out - or stick around after class and create friendships, this is the gym for you. If you’re looking to improve your fitness by means of endurance, strength, flexibility, or all of the above, then this is the gym for you. FFASC is a place you can comfortably join no matter your fitness level. You will find a diverse group of positive, down-to-earth people here, including the expert instructors Justin and Jermail, the light-hearted and mood boosting yoga teacher Angie, and the welcoming community of gym-goers.
Personally, I have felt the same joy and camaraderie at this gym that I found in team sports in high school and college. I’ve also gained strength I never knew I could achieve by the expert coaching from Justin and Jermail (coaching that feels like 1:1 personal training even in a class of 8 to 12). The cardio classes allow you to push yourself as hard as you’d like; yet the classes also meet the needs of someone wanting less-intensity or requiring modifications.
I can think of nothing more you could want in a gym. Do yourself a favor and sign up for the free class or free week… then watch in amazement as your endurance, strength, and confidence climb!

Been working out here for over 2 years now. Mainly just dong the Strength and Endurance classes. They keep changing it up which makes it fun. I am stronger and healthier than I ever have been and it is all thanks to their class system. I will never go back to just lifting at a gym again. Do yourself a favor and try a free class.

This is arguably one of the best gyms in all of Cleveland, the workouts are challenging, and will push you , the staff is amazing. I worked out here after injuring my knee in college playing football 2 years ago, and my transformation has been epic, I feel like I am stronger then I have ever been. It is also a kid friendly gym as well with bathrooms, the gym is always clean and you feel good coming in to workout and leaving a workout too! 10/10 definitely recommend

I have been going to Functional Fitness for 6 months. When I began I had next to no muscle and never saw myself lifting weights. I started with the applied conditioning and functional strength classes. Every time I go we are doing something different, it's never boring and it's always challenging. The class sizes are small and the instructors are great.

When I would go to the gym before I never knew what to do and felt like I wasn't making progress. Now all I have to is get there. I have gained muscle, endurance and even some confidence.

About 6 weeks ago I started going to the applied strength and conditioning class. I had no previous experience in performing Olympic lifts or weight training.

I was taught the proper techniques at light weights and am slowly working my way up each class. It's a process that requires commitment and dedication but that's not an issue because once you start going you won't want to stop.

Can't say enough good things about this place. Been here for about four months and for the first time, have a regular gym routine. I used to really not enjoy going to the gym but these guys make it fun. Jermail and Justin are great motivators and put together really dynamic programs that challenge you physically and mentally. Functiona Fitness is a great group fitness facility. Boot camp style workouts emphasizing strength, flexibility, and overall health. They frequently utilize medicine balls, TRX, kettle bells, sleds, and high intensity body weight training. The instructors are former NCAA and Pro athletes with degrees in exercise science. I have lost 70 pounds since joining the gym and an addicted to the fast paced workouts. The only thing that will limit your progress here is you.
