Staff got incredibly mean over me not seeing one sign posted with text that I cannot see because is small and I am partially blind. Another gym member had to point out the sign to me after the situation, staff didn’t let me know if/where it was posted. The sign was an 8x11 page on a wall not central to the gym or near other gym rules, someone who is hard of seeing would never look that way. If you’re looking for a YMCA that’s accessible just go across town to Ward.

We come into town 3 or 4 times a year to visit our in-laws who live right up the street. My elderly father in law maintains a membership here, but every time my active duty military wife tries to go there to get a workout in for the weekend she is rudely rejected by the woman at the front desk, even if she offers to pay for a workout. She is just trying to get a workout and we have never been treated so rudely. I'm going to be a good Christian and cut it there. I'll just say that if I could give it a zero I absolutely would.

My sister and I joined the North North location on Sandalwood Blvd. It was fine for a few weeks.When spring break came abt we decided to try another location due to children under your feet when trying to do Aerobic exercises, throwing these in the pool, running and jumping off the side and parents acting as though they were blind or brain dead maybe even both.We decided to try the AfGahanna location as it was closer to my Sister. It was even worse due to the fact they have a water slide and Basketball hoops so many kids you couldn't get pass the wading area. Needless to say once we left we NEVER returned to Gahanna again.
After abt a week we tried the North Y again. Maybe a few less kids now but once we decided to relax in the Jacuzzi/hot tub area we found it to be occupied by a NAKED senior woman. After a few more attempts to exercise in the pool with kids running and jumping, throwing things and a naked woman in the hot tub who seemed to be a daily fixture. I canceled my membership 😟

I don't like that YMCA in Gahanna is always closed and always boys older than 5 years old in locker room. You can't even dress good when someone watching you and they stare at you. Monday my daughter had a towel on and a boy was right next to her looking at her I told him don't do that and told his mom. She took him and put him in a shower. He was probably 7 or 8 years old. Not good. Every day I go shower with my daughter there always boys in locker room no good. Please fix it.

Signed up solely to use the pool to teach my daughter how to swim. The first two attempts to go there, the pool was closed for various reasons. Their pool rules make it impossible to teach anything. Not allowed in a lane under 16yo without demonstrating ability to swim even with a parent. Family "swim" area is so packed you cant use for anything other than splashing around and getting hit by kids throwing pool toys. Water not deep enough to even teach treading water. I was told to reach out to the Aquatics Director. I did. No response. Ghosted. Took my membership elsewhere.

I love my Y! The staff is so friendly and courteous. They just upgraded most of the weight lifting equipment and it's spaced out enough so even if there's lots of people everyone has room and tools to work with. The childcare is great! It is limited hours so be sure to check those. My kids love going there. We are excited for the outdoor pool and will report back once it's open for the season! There are lots of different free classes to choose from and lots of youth programs! Overall I recommend this Y.

I went with one of the users on here , Ruth gesse and some worker named Holly was so disrespectful. she was wasting our time when we clearly said we don’t have time. she said that she couldn’t see the numbers on the card, but it was so clear and she had glasses on. we came there at 11:00 but the lifeguards were so lazy so we only had 20 minutes to swim, they kept on taking breaks so the people kept on having to go out of the pool. The worker was also yelling at Ruth. I would recommend to never talk to the worker and never go to that swimming pool again. it was the worst experience that I ever had. never going there again.

My husband and I became members of this YMCA six weeks ago. Unfortunately, he accidentally left a lock on his locker along with some personal items. I purchased this particular lock on January 22, which marked the one-year anniversary of my father's passing, and the combination was set to his birthday. Upon realizing that leaving locks on lockers was prohibited, I approached the front desk to speak with the staff, including Matt, who informed me that he would be the one to cut off the lock. However, he said that he didn’t cut off the lock so it should still be there. Standing right in front of me, he said to me and I quote “ If a lock is cut off, we will make sure that it gets back to the person that belongs to” I said to him clearly that is not true as I’m standing here three weeks later still looking for my belongings and you people have no idea where it is and are putting forth zero effort to find it. Initially, the staff seemed concerned about the situation, but three weeks later, their attitude has shifted dramatically to one of indifference, not to mention they have been very rude to me. I have repeatedly inquired about the whereabouts of my lock and belongings, but their responses have been completely unhelpful, with comments such as I don’t know what to tell you and some staff members simply walking away from me during our interactions. I specifically asked what is done with locks and belongings when they are cut off and I’ve yet to receive a straight answer from anyone . As a paying member, it is disheartening to see that this lock, which holds great sentimental value for me, is not treated with care or concern by any staff member! They refuse to do anything about it and just want me to shut up about it.

Very rude and disrespectful employees, this is my local ymca and I expect more. apparently they only value and respect a certain demographics time in the gymnasium, being kicked out 4 mins before my allotted time to let another class in is ridiculous if the open gym closes at a specific time I expect it to be done at that certain time, I was rotated several times 20 mins before my time was over to let them set up which is understandable but interrupting my workout to kick me out of the gym 4 minutes early is rude and insensitive, I brought it to the attention of someone in the office and he made a sly comment saying he will change it online to end 15 minutes before. Very disappointed in the staff and hope this will be addressed.

Prospective Members, please read!

This facility does some things well and lacks competency on many fronts.

Pros:
Space is fairly clean.

Gym has some quality equipment, plenty of free weights and sufficient cardio equipment.
Staff is welcoming and they do a nice job with their programming and group classes.
Plenty of lockers and showers.

Cons:
If something needs fixed or replaced it can sometimes take months. It took 2 months to for them to replace a net for one of the basketball hoops.

The hours for the pool/hot tub and child care change all the time. They don’t pay their associates well so they have a ton of turnover and an unreliable staff.

Management doesn’t enforce any of their rules, needlessly putting members at risk. Twice I’ve tripped over someone’s gym bag that’s lying on the floor in the free weight area.

There was an incident in the gym last year (with a weapon) and their remedy was to no longer allow bags in the gym and you can no longer play a full-court basketball game. (Brilliant) Everyday I’m in the gym there continue to be gym bags littering the benches.

They also let people listen to music on their phone without headphones, exposing members to profanity and explicit content.

They don’t allow kids to wear mask-style goggles in the pool (was told it’s a drowning risk) yet they allow women to swim fully dressed! Incredibly stupid and dangerous.
*The outdoor kids pool was closed for the entirety of 2024.

Chips of paint from the ceiling are falling to the ground so protect your eyes if you are faced upwards.

If you plan to use the hot tub or sauna regularly, keep in mind it’s usually a small window in which these are accessible.

For those who are joining to use the lap pool, know that they prioritize the high school swim team practices and meets over their members. Good luck consistently having access to a lane.

Better leadership and efficiencies would go a long way at this Y. Please start focusing on member experience! All members!

They would get 5 stars if they had a steam room. I'll give them a 5 rating because there's no 4.8. The pool could be a bit warmer but then again I'm a big baby. The only better location in town might be Hilliard but that's because they have a steam room. The staff is awesome and the coffee in the morning is great as well. The locker room is very clean and the equipment is in good shape. They need an ab machine though. My wife swims a mile or so and she's okay with the pool temperature but also agrees it's a bit cold. We're ex-obese people so we get cold easier than most. The other gym folks are usually friendly and the atmosphere isn't dark and dungeoney like some gyms are. It's definitely in my top 3 gym locations in Columbus. My health insurance also pays for my membership so that is definitely a bonus.

This is a good, safe space for women to work out. There are all kinds of body types and physical abilities represented here. The equipment is solid and there are tons of classes to choose from. The pool is clean and nicely equipped. The price is also excellent when compared to other gym memberships. My kids learned to swim here. My daughter has attended camp at Columbus Academy, her school( New Albany), and the YMCA. She enjoyed the YMCA the most(the kids and teachers seemed to have more of a sense a humor/down to earth in her opinion) and is disappointed she wont be able to attend the 1st few weeks while she will still be 12 yrs old. The prev years they went by age but currently go according to grade.

I took Zumba with Kris on a cold, snowy Saturday morning. The class was full and it really brightened my day. As I am visiting the area, I was not sure what to expect with Zumba here.
