I've attended the Geauga ymca for many years . Before I retired I went to the aquasize classes . Now I attend the older adult classes and aquasize . I also tried some yoga and have participated in some of their outings and fundraisers. Everyone is so friendly, staff and participants . They really try to meet the needs of the people in the community . I like have the structure of knowing there are classes everyday at a certain time. It gets me out of the house n get going .

The Y provides a variety of programs for all age groups. The facility is clean and well-cared for. I am a senior and enjoy the Silver Sneaker classes and activities. The AOA director, Diane, does a great job planning activities such as trips and speakers.

My experience with this ymca is typically very positive, but while I was doing dumbbell bench with 95 lbs on each arm when I finished I put the weight down to the side of me, it was loud but how else am I getting the weight off of. One of the people come over and accused me of dropping the weight. A few minutes later they come back over and complained that my wife was wearing sandals I explained my wife had a problem with her foot at the time and could not wear shoes. I then asked could we be allowed to continue our work out the old lady said sure. We continued and then another woman comes up and tells us we have to leave. I do not spend money for my wife and I to be treated like this. Iβm just going to assemble my own gym so I donβt have to deal with this nonsense.

Terrible! If you are alone with kids, safeguards will look at every step, toddlers running too fast, too slow and so on...
If not Pink eye then pneumonia to all family!!! Terrible old style changing room, no space at all. They are using shredded tires coating in the kids play area, before fixing it , kids was always covered with some black spots. Now they 'fixed' it ... Guys shredded tires coating is not healthy at all! I hope some independent scientists finally do research about it to prove it, it is not safe.
Nope nope nope! I spent 1k with all my family to recover from pneumonia!
The staff is very friendly. We were just in the pool area.

I have been training here for almost 5 years now. As someone who attends this facility everyday, I wish they would treat me like everyone else. The Y is targeted for a more older audience which is perfectly fine, that doesnβt mean I shouldnβt feel welcomed. I am a young adult and may not fit in exactly with everyone else, the gym should be accepting of all people with different goals. I constantly receive dirty looks from other members along with staff, I have never been disrespectful to anyone and would never. Therefore, there is no reason I should receive such treatment which concludes it is solely off my appearance. I have been sweared at by a few guests on multiple occasions. I have reported them all and yet they do nothing about it. If I were to ever do something like that, I know for a fact I would not be welcome back. The staff needs to recognize more than just the senior citizens and attend to all of their guests. If you are already far into your fitness journey, I would never recommend coming here.

Absolutely horrible communication. We are new to the area and decided to sign my son up for the jr cavs basketball league. He was registered and fees paid well in advance of the deadline of oct 2. We waited patiently for an email or phone call about the beginning of the session on oct 12. That date came and went without any contact. We finally decided to call and see if there was even going to be a league. Turns out it started on time and even played a game already. 0/10 service. Do not recommend dealing with the Geauga county YMCA.

Facility is always clean (maybe wet in changing lockertoom, but clean), the staff at the desk and lifeguards are always kind and welcoming, making my 8 year old less terrified of teenagers π
Swim classes were wonderful also!
Yclub at school is a fun place for him, instead of where he "has to go" - he loves the staff and their creative activities daily. (I think they're not technically part of Y Geauga though)
Very happy we joined and the monthly membership is well worth it!

I only take the group classes, and they are very challenging with a lot of variety. All of the instructors are awesome and they genuinely care about the participants. They have something for everyone for sure.
There is a very large free weight and machine area and a full size pool with a kids play area in the pool. The facility is modern and always clean.
A special shout out to the new Wellness director who is working hard at adding more weights, kickboxing equipment, ropes, bands, and other equipment. If you're looking for a gym with a lot of variety in a zero judgment zone, this is worth checking out.

We'll be canceling our membership here, and this is why:
We bought a membership for the pool, and things were okay for a while until this week. Now it's hardly ever available for paying members to use. The pool is always being used for lessons or practice. All week long, nobody is allowed in the water because of lessons, swim team, aerobics, etc. Open swim is limited to during the work/school day, Saturday, or Sunday (they close early on those days), or we still can't use the pool during open swim days because there might be a private birthday party in session and they get to use the whole pool. So what's the point in paying for a membership to be unable to use anything? You have to be a part of a class to use anything, otherwise forget it. The water is always cold, and the hot tub is never hot. They've been "working on it" for months now.
There are rules everywhere about everything. The pool area is plastered with rules everywhere, so much so that it basically takes all responsibility away from staff and lifeguards and puts the onus onto paying members. Children have to take swim tests, wear certain colored wristbands, adults must be in their company, devices aren't allowed, etc. So what exactly does staff do? I've seriously never been somewhere with more rules. City pools and amusement parks don't have this many rules. The lifeguards literally don't even dress to be water-ready. They all just wear sweats, hoodies, and tennis shoes and clown around with each other while "on duty."
They asked paying members to bring a change of shoes during the winter months. People pay to use your facility...so pay someone to use a mop? The responsibility does not fall to people who pay for a membership to keep the building clean or bring extra shoes so as not to sully the precious entryway.
The locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms are never clean, you can tell nobody cleans up around there. Everything else is filthy, dank, and dirty, but I guess that makes sense since this place wants paying members to do all the work for them.

I am a single mom. I stress alot with raising my child because she is strong willed. An awesome quality that I love and yet it is hard at times as a single parent. Within one week of camp I could tell these councelors not only loved kids but KNOW child psychology. That seems to be rare in childcare these days. When my daughter didn't listen instead of yelling at her during pick up they helped me get her to leave. Yea she loved it there so much that she didn't want to leave. They made a positive transition through redirection and encouragement. They also used a reward- system. Anytime my daughter was scared of roller skating or riding the bus they talked to her about it. They then gave her reassurance and helped her through it. This camp is ABOVE average. I LOVED IT. I have had many frustrating experiences with daycares and this was hands down one of the best experiences that we have ever had. Our summer was easy. I didn't deal with picking her up and hearing the councelors telling me everything that Iris didn't do well that day. Instead, they ALWAYS told me what she did do well. So I felt relieve after some stressful work days. I got off work and was met with peace and fun. Thank you YMCA. Most of all you kept my child busy and happy with fun and engaging activities. I will constantly recommend this camp.

The facilities are fine but the billing process is entirely crooked. I paid for the year upfront in December last year specifically because that was the only option they gave me for not retaining my credit card information and years before they had double billed me for months and every month told me that I can only make changes to my account for next month. It was like groundhog month. Obviously we haven't been there since February. When I called them to defer after COVID, they told me that I couldn't because I paid upfront. Now they had a 3rd party billing company call because they tried to run $900 against an expired AMEX that they were not supposed to keep. Called Geauga YMCA and they called me back to tell me that they will stop the billing to an expired card but if I ever want to come back (like after the pandemic), I will first have to pay them $900. I repeated that back to them and they will check on that.
