We have been going to goldfish since 2020. We had one child go all the way through after not being able to make progress at another swim school. Our son started when he was 6 months and is still going strong as a four year old. Every single teacher we have had has been loving, caring, and so supportive to our children. All of the staff goes out of their way to be kind and children really learn and have fun.

One day I showed up and had accidentally signed my son up for the wrong class for a makeup. There wasn’t room at his level but they went out of their way to open another lane with a teacher so he could swim because we were there and ready. I never expected that, they helped schedule and still took my son swimming. When my son was a toddler he would cry during swimming but they dealt with him expertly.

They treat each child like an individual making sure they are helping them reach their goals while still having the best time. I highly recommend goldfish especially if you have not had success at another swim school.

If you're looking for the best place to help your special needs child to learn to safely swim, look no further! Goldfish Swim School spent over a year working with my Autistic child, and the results have been astounding. I went from being frightened of bodies of water and the drowning risk they posed for my kid, to feeling confident that my child will be safe. (My child can now float on their back, swim to the edge of the pool, safely enter and exit the water, swim to the bottom of the pool and come back up, and hold their breath for an extended period of time.) Most importantly, the staff went above and beyond to match my child's learning preferences (observation only!), and treated them with the kindness and dignity that, as a parent, I am so thankful to have witnessed my child receiving. That's such a rare thing! To give an example of how much the folks at Goldfish care: at one visit, the owner changed into his swimwear and jumped into the pool to accommodate my child's anxiety over being a bit too early to class, allowing my kid some extra time to swim. I just can't say enough good things about the oweners and staff at Goldfish. I have recommended them to everyone I know, and I'll continue to do so. Wish I could leave 6 stars instead of 5! :)

Coach Abby, Coach Elyse, and Jeff are extremely helpful and great with the kids. Amazing place! We’ve been here for almost 5 years now and cannot speak highly enough about it. We recommend to anyone looking for lessons! Very clean facility and I always feel safe having my kids there because they have so many attentive lifeguards on standby. My 14 month old has been taking lessons here once a week for 6 months. Rebecca has been her teacher and she is so great with the babies. I can’t say enough nice things about our experience. It was especially nice in the winter as an activity to do with my baby when we could not go outdoors and I didn’t know what else to do to entertain her!

Update 6/23/25:
Goldfish did pull my husband aside and gave him more specific feedback for our daughter which really helped. Google doesn’t notify me if someone responded to a review so I’m only just now seeing they responded but I’m glad Goldfish took note and made the effort to resolve the situation. She’s been working on her flutter kicks in the tub!

I’m still going to go with private lessons and group lessons at the Y for our daughter because it’s just a really stimulating environment at Goldfish and she needs fewer distractions. I might re-enroll her in the future. I can say it would have been great if we had known about goldfish when she was a baby instead of going to the Y and the Kettering Rec Center- the water was way too cold for her and I think the warmth at Goldfish would have been much better for her as a baby.

Original review: I’d say Goldfish is 5/5 stars for getting babies introduced and acclimated to the water. The water and the pool area are warm, the class sizes are small, and they do a great job getting the babies comfortable with water on their faces. My baby loves his lessons.

For my 5 year old daughter, I’d give Goldfish 3/5 stars. At first we were very encouraged and excited. I do love that they have showers and plenty of changing areas. Logistically, it’s all great. But, the part that is lacking is the attention to detail. There are just too many kids to pay attention to and address specific problems. Only three weeks into her lessons they got my daughter confused with another child and moved her up to Glider 2. She was so excited. I didn’t really question it because I thought “well, they’re the swimming experts so she must be ready.”

Her first Glider 2 class they realized their mistake and had move her back down to Glider 1. It was demoralizing for my daughter and we tried to emphasize that it wasn’t my daughter’s fault and that if she continues to work hard she’ll be able to get up to Glider 2.

Her confidence and enthusiasm has waned since then and they tell me she’s “doing great” and needs to practice “x, y, and z” which is great, as we welcome feedback. But it’s not very specific feedback and I think we are getting told she’s “doing great” because she’s not causing trouble like some of the other kids.

I’m not sure I have any feedback that Goldfish could use except lower the ratio of instructors to kids? Or open up Mondays or Fridays to allow more lessons to make up for lowering the ratio? Or discipline the kids who are too rowdy? I don’t know the answer but I can tell you this hasn’t been great for my daughter and we are doing 1:1 private lessons elsewhere.

If my opinion/experience changes I will gladly change my review but as of right now, it isn’t working for my daughter.

What a fantastic experience we've had at Goldfish Swim School! My daughter, who has been in physical therapy for low muscle tone, has made immense progress in her almost year there. When she started, I was hopeful she'd gain some strength and confidence in the water, but she's far exceeded our expectations.
Not only has her physical strength visibly improved, but the focus on water safety at Goldfish Swim School has given me incredible peace of mind. She's learned crucial skills like floating independently and swimming back to the pool edge, which are invaluable for any child, but especially for us. This school and it's instructors have always received high praises from me ..until today. After my daughter's class, she advised me her instructor, whom she never had before, told her during class that she "didn't care" that she was tired. I personally went to a Goldfish representative, possibliy the owner, and expressed my concerns about the interaction as I felt comments like that are not encouraging to young swimmers. The representative stated the children are required to race and if they left it up to the children, none of them would race. She then stated if racing is not something a child was interested in, then perhaps swimming is not for them and that is a separate conversation for a parent to have with their child. She then started to question if my child had asthma because of the way she was breathing during her swim class...I think any parent would advise of this condition before starting a swim class. After listening to all of that, I centered the conversation back on what this instructor said to my child. Her response was "she is a high schooler and would never talk to kids that way I guarantee it"... apparently the owner listens to all of her conversations with students the entire time she is teaching. I did not agree with what she said and at no point did she even offer to look into my concerns and we basically ended the conversation with no resolution. Very disappointed in the lack of concern the representative had. We will continue at this point to attend Goldfish but the minute my daughter wants to drop out, I will not be encouraging her to stick it out.

My grandson and I started classes when he was 18 months. I was scared to death. However after a short time and the amazing instructors, we have had an awesome experience. I would honestly put 0 stars if that was an option. We started in 2018, before the pandemic. We really had a good experience with Goldfish Swim School back then. The main owner was really competent, and always tried to please the customers. I had enrolled my two daughters in May of 2023 once again (after the pandemic was over), and I told them that from June 1st to July 4th that we were going to be out of the country, so my two daughters were going to miss those classes, and that I wanted to do makeup classes for what we missed as soon as we got back for every Wednesday. They said that we could do makeup lessons when we got back for every Wednesday until August 15th. Fast forward to now, last week the school was closed due to maintenance. Today, they told me that all slots for students today were full, and they cancelled my makeup lesson without informing me, and I already paid for all 3 months back in May. This is extremely unprofessional, and I have never experienced such bad service before at this location, especially since we live more than 20 minutes away from Goldfish Swim School. Once I have completed whatever I have paid for, I’m gonna have to think about re-enrolling my kids.

We could be outliers, but our experience with Goldfish has been less than impressive. From the beginning we had issues--less than friendly instructor, and not having us registered despite being so. Against my better judgement I went ahead and enrolled two kids. However, this is expensive, and it seems the goal is less teaching kids how to swim, and more maintaining enrollment, and profit. One of my kids progress has not been updated since August, and the other was finally updated after my asking. Kids can't progress without progress updates, so we've spent two months in the same class, without any mention or ability to move onto the next level. Instead of feeling accomplished, my oldest is feeling defeated--she has tried her best, and is getting nowhere.

I'd recommend another school, unless you have a lot of money to throw away monthly.

We love Goldfish Swim School. It's very convenient for parents from parking to checkin in to kids showering and dressing up. Even with a tag-a-long baby or toddler, mom/dad can watch their enrolled child from swimming to shower in one place on a big glass viewing wall. We also love that the place is themed, very colorful, decorative, kid-friendly and has a fun atmosphere. They also have fancy dressing rooms and mirrors with hair dryers. We also love that every progress a kid accomplishes, they get ribbons to award them with. We also like that we can literally drop off our kid (he's 9 yo) from the door and it is safe for him to go from swimming to dress up, because you can see all happening in one place. I highly recommend it to everyone especially those with other babies or toddlers mom has to watch while other older siblings are having swim lessons.

I have enjoyed my Golden experience at Goldfish Swimming School. Although I do have to say my daughter enjoys it more than me. The instructor(s) are very good with communicating with the parents of the Mini 1 class. They communicate how to get your child comfortable with being in the water and different techniques for each stage of comfort the child is currently at. The instructor(s) also use songs in the water and I believe it helps keep a rhythm between the water and the child's actions. My daughter loves going to swimming lessons and I can't wait to watch her turn into a little Goldfish!

Goldfish has been able to help breakthrough their fears to become confident swimmers who enjoy the water. If you're wondering about the price difference between Goldfish and community pool swim lessons - it's a completely different experience and Goldfish lessons are an investment. Goldfish students are provided with consistent incremental training in micro-groups.They don't move to the next level until skill mastery is complete. We took our daughter to the open swim for something fun to do on her birthday. It was our first time there and we were so impressed by the amazing staff and the kid friendly amenities. Top notch facility. If you are a parent that is interested in lessons for your kid or something fun to do year round, this is a gem of a place. Can’t wait to go back!

The friendliest staff and superb customer service. The instructors are passionate about their students' progression and my daughter has flourished due to her instructors motivation. Much better than the other facilities in the area that failed to teach her any swimming skills. She even had her birthday party here and the experience was amazing.

We are so blessed to be able to send our children to this great school. We have seen such a dramatic change in the skill level, and most importantly the confidence level, of our son. Goldfish Swim Club is the only place to take your kids to learn to swim. The owners and employees make the experience better than any I’ve ever had. They get to know you and your child. Their flexibility in schedule makes it so easy to make up a lesson or change your lessons if your schedule needs. And lastly, the ammenities are amazing. I can’t say enough about this school! Love them!

The managers are wonderful and are always there to support the kids, no matter what they need to thrive. Absolutely LOVE the teachers! So kind and compassionate but expect nothing but the best.
