I love LA Fitness/Esporta but the Grandview location is in a bit of a decline. The weight equipment is looking rough. For example, the pull-down bars with rubber grips are all torn. The bathrooms are a little rough, soap dispensers out of soap, hand sanitizer dispensers out of sanitizers, etc. The place had the potential to be amazing like it was just a few years ago.
Update: here are some photos of a few things that they could tighten up. I will buy new TVs for the mirrors and matching chrome beauty plates to cover the holes in the bathroom quartz if the club would install them. There's still no furniture in the men's room lounge from the pandemic. That space could be a cryo area if they're not bringing back the lounge and add more cashflow to the club. Also, there should be leaseable lockers, that's valuable real estate that's not producing. A few quick, cheap fixes would really help tighten up the club and increase cashflow.

The funny thing is, everyone that has something good to say or amazing rating to give LA fitness answers, but when it comes to critics and telling them where they are wrong .. they don't respond. I've checked every bad review here. As a company, if you are managing the web pages for your place, make sure to answer EVERYONES message. Not answering just gives us the reason WHY y'all are failing, who works or owns that place doesn't care. It's pretty noticeable.

I tried the 3 days pass during a work trip to Colombus (as I might be moving to Ohaio for a few months)
I personally loved this LA fitness.
It is HUGE, well equipped, seems to be maintained well. The Sauna was extremely hot and helped my sore muscles (could definitely be cleaner though) and every staff member from the gym (especially Jaxon)
that I’ve encountered with, was extremely sweet, kind and welcoming.
I also love the little juice shop that they have there.

Go to the gym at Graceland since Goodale is very overcrowded and dirty. Graceland is cleaner but the staff is rude and unprofessional. Feet on counter at the front desk in their phones barely looking up to acknowledge customers, asked the assistant manager to please change the tv channel ( Fox News on- 75% minorities here- really?!) and he said he didn’t know how- he’s only been there 2 months?! Last night the closing associate Raja turned off all the tvs 40 minutes before closing. When we explained that we were watching the football game (5 minutes left) she said she didn’t have an intercom and if we didn’t like it we could call the manager and spelled her name for me. Just rude. The maintenance guy is the ONLY one who actually works here. I understand you get what you pay for ( inexpensive gym) but this place is poorly run it’s laughable.

Need to raise the price of the membership to price out some people that are lowering the standard. Increase the membership cost for men and free for women to double the profit and quality. The best thing about a membership is to exclude people you don't want to be around period. If you could credit score check these guys too that would be great.
Update: Finally cancelled after over 7 years of membership. Everything is in disorder and filthy. Fallen Soviet Union/great depression vibes are heavy here. Going to lifetime.

Location is okay;
- needs another squat rack, two just isn’t enough especially when people are doing squats and deads on the same day 😑
- heavier dumbbells, 100 is the max I found
- needs another fly machine and less useless chest machines. The fly machine ALWAYS has a line and then there a machines people rightfully don’t even touch. Get rid of them bring in more of what people use
- bad place for chest day overall, half the machines are on one side of the floor with the other half across the floor.
Gym has like weird hand-me-down equipment. Almost like other locations just donate the equipment they don’t want to this location. Weird mismatch plates, machines that aren’t useful, which is weird because I thought this was a signature gym

You have to come in to get your gym membership canceled. I came in and was told only the manager could cancel accounts, and the manager was not in. I was told to come in Monday through Friday 9-5 to see the manager, but I work during those hours.
The only resolve is that they put a note on my account saying to cancel and I "should" be getting a call from the manager this coming week and was told to call back Thursday or Friday if I don't hear back.
Really stupid, I should be able to cancel my account and not get a run around.
Edit: went online through my desktop to see if I can talk to someone who can help me and found that you can cancel online. The receptionists did not tell me of this option.
Edit 2: I never received a call.
Edit 3 8/21/25: The Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against LA Fitness, alleging that they make it exceedingly difficult for members to cancel their membership. I'm glad I'm not the only one tired of this sort of nonsense. I'm here if they need a witness.

The management of this gym has gone consistently downhill, especially recently.
The AC has been broken for months with no timeline for resolution (maybe they turned it off on purpose??)
The gym is completely overcrowded… and knowing this, they insist on taking away the separate workout area downstairs as it’s “only for personal training”... I have been apart of several gyms in my lifetime, and have never seen a complete workout area taken away for ONE ON ONE personal training..... maybe for a group class... but these clowns go in there for 1on1 training and insist it has to be closed off to everyone else at ALL times.
The machines are also constantly broken (see photo attached)…. Taking weeks/sometimes months to ever be repaired.
If not for its convenient location and somewhat cheap (although increasing) price, it would be out of business

I've been training with Tyler Hunt for about 5 months now and couldn't be happier! His communication and scheduling are excellent, making it easy to fit sessions into my busy life. Tyler developed a custom fitness routine that perfectly targets my strengths and weaknesses, and he meticulously tracks our workouts in a book to ensure we stay on track and monitor my progress. I've seen fantastic results and highly recommend Tyler to anyone looking for a dedicated and effective personal trainer!

New management needs to focus more on retaining and servicing its everyday members instead of taking all off the best resources and limiting them to “personal training”. First you take the side room which many people used— especially those who wanted to feel comfortable and confident working out. Then you consistently remove equipment from the main floors— namely the kettle bells that we use every day. (Also, people rarely use the room in the evening/late night.) Reconsider your policies and business model and remember your regular clientele is who keeps you in business.

I’ve been coming here well over a year, overall it’s been a decent experience but the cleanliness is getting worse! I can only speak for the women’s bathroom / locker room but it is disgusting. The same poop stains have been on the stalls for WEEKS. The showers are not cleaned because the same debris has been stuck in the first shower stall for MONTHS. Not to mention the counter and table that are never wiped down and carpet that’s never vacuumed or shampooed. Please I am begging for LA to please find or hire someone to solely clean the bathroom EVERYDAY. There is way too many people that come through the gym for it not to be cleaned everyday. I am seriously considering cancelling because of the lack of cleanliness. I really count on being able to shower and get ready for work there after a workout. I would feel way more inclined to go more and stay. Because truly overall everyone is nice and it’s the best location for me but it is really disgusting. PLEASE LA , PLEASE CLEAN THE BATHROOMS OR FIND SOMEONE TO JUST MAINTAIN THE BATHROOM/ LOCKER ROOM

I have been using a personal Trainer at LA Fitness Goodale where I am a member for over two years. My current Trainer goes above and beyond anything other trainers have done. Tyler Hunt researches, makes and adapts workouts especially for me. I have been using trainers for over 20 years and I’ve never met anyone as competent and caring who is as dedicated to working toward my success as Tyler. It was very helpful to use a room set aside for personal training a few times. Unfortunately, that is not now the case. Even though LA Fitness Goodale has the room we have been unable to secure a private space for training.

Started with the Gym back in August of 2024 and did sign up for personal training. The trainer I initially started with was great but......there were draw backs. No dedicated area and the gym is always super packed so I felt I was not getting my monies worth in the 30min sessions. Ran into a bit of a rut and didn't rebook for a few months but also did not cancel the training as I still wanted that guidance. I did stack up on sessions and now there is a newer staff including my new trainer Tyler Hunt. He's worked hard to acquire a dedicated space for the personal training and is very knowledgeable. The space is in the quiet room which is ideal because then you can really focus the instruction be given and also hear the tweeks to form and structure. Looking forward to seeing where the progress takes me now that I'm back on my fitness journey.

This place is a complete scam. The person who signed me up lied about the membership, falsely promising I could bring a guest whenever I wanted. They also told me I wouldn’t be charged until a certain date for the initial fees, but my card was charged earlier than promised. After I cancelled, they still charged my card for another month. The staff are unprofessional and shady. The front desk lady lied and claimed she had “lost access” to activate guest passes, and then I was told guest passes could only be used between 10 AM and 5 PM — an excuse they made up because their sales numbers were low. Save yourself the headache and stay far away from this place.

I have watched this gym slowly go down hill. I believe that most of it falls on the current manager ? Some of the other L.A fitness gyms are much better. I must comment on the swimming pool , yesterday a child swimming coach and I had a discussion about the water . It was frightening you could not see your feet it was so cloudy. The filters have sand leaking out around the sides. I will not be going back until things improve.

This has got to be one of the worst gyms in America. Certainly the worst I have ever been to. Of all the treadmills here you would have a harder time finding one that actually works. If you're looking for broken treadmills and equipment that never gets fixed then this is certainly the gym for you. The concept 2 rowing machine has been broken for as long as I have been going to this gym and that is the case with any equipment that breaks (which it often does) You'd be much better off spending a bit more money to go somewhere nicer.

Very disappointed. Just wanted to check inside and see how it is. But that boy told me to pay $20. Like clearly the policy says you have 3 consecutive free pass.
That boy was also not very helpful explaining things and making people feel welcoming. He barely even spoke a word.

@LA Fitness Corporate Leaders: I have lived in various cities in Ohio (Dayton/Beavercreek club, Toledo/ Maumee Club, and Cleveland/ Avon Lake Club). While living in Cleveland, the Avon Lake LA Fitness was my club of choice, and by far my favorite of all clubs that I attended in the cities wherein I have lived. In September of 2024, I returned home to Columbus, thus returning to the Goodale location, the same location that I frequented in 2020 before moving away. When I returned to Columbus, I noticed an unfavorable decline in the Goodale Club (e.g., lack of cleanliness, grotesque smells in the locker rooms, and most of all broken and dilapidated equipment. In September, all of the Stair Master machines, except one, were broken, and other popular machines were defunct. I pondered making other LA Fitness locations (Graceland, Hilliard, or Reynoldsburg) my primary club; however, Goodale was most convenient for my present residence. Within the last month or so, I noticed that the foul smell in the locker room was gone. The club has been conspicuously cleaner, and the Stair Master (SM) machines that had long been inoperable wer repaired. To date, only one SM is missing as the place where it was formerly stationed is empty, leading me to believe that it is being repaired or replaced. Change takes time; however, the noticeable changes that have taken place to date are noticed and greatly appreciated. I admonish corporate bosses to give whoever the new General Manager is every resources needed to restore the LA Fitness Club @ Goodale to its former grandeur. How do I know that there is new leadership? The improvement in the club shows and when I inquired, I was told that a new GM was in place. The LA Fitness Club @ Goodale is far from perfect; however, the five star rating is awarded because of ardent strides that have been made to improve a club that has been in what we in the leadership ranks call "organizational atrophy." To whomever has taken the helm of leadership, "good job" and "keep up the good work." Your leadership is making a difference and I hope to meet him or her very soon. I have been told by a Club Manager @LA Fitness (Avon Lake) that the Goodale location is the busiest in the State. Corporate leadership @ LA Fitness, be sure to give the Club resources needed to solidify its position as the most frequented club in Ohio. I only hope that this exhaustive review will be used by corporate leaders in training and developing club leaders. To write this exhaustive rating that is favorable should speak volumes, as most customers are more likely to post negative reviews when something has gone awry, than to craft one that is immensely positive. As a scholar practitioner, I coined a phrase in 2018, "Managers manage people: Leaders Manage Relationships" (D.C. Scott, 2018). #changemanagement #intentionalleadership #managerelationships

I mostly like this gym. Excellent price. Good staff. Plenty of parking. Open late. Great variety of equipment: track, pool, sauna, squat racks, smith machine, sled, basically every machine you could think of, heavy dumbbells, ropes, punching bag, and all the cardio stuff. Only downside is how busy it gets. If you go at the wrong time and expect to get on a bench or squat rack, forget about it. Also, if short meathead dudes making tons of noise isn't your jam, this probably isn't the place for you.

i visited this gym pretty infrequently as you have to wait for every good machine almost any time of the day. which i had no problem doing and is not why i’m giving one star.
the one star is from my interaction today. i had surgery near the end of december and wasn’t able to make it in person to cancel (you’re obligated to cancel in person, no other option) before the 1st of the new year to cancel which resulted in my $50 annual fee.
i was finally able to make it in today to completely cancel my account and explained i had surgery which is why i wasn’t in until today and asked for forgiveness on the annual fee and was denied. the annual being for the year 2025, and i’m cancelling in january 2025. my last visit to this gym being in april 2024, they had already collected almost $300 from me without a visit. instead they wanted me to freeze my account for another $10 every month instead of cancelling after not having sympathy for my situation.

I’ve been a member of this gym when it was Esporta and now LA Fitness, every time I go everything is very dusty, dirty and extremely run down. Not to mention, all highly used equipment is ALWAYS out of order. Also is overcrowded 90% of the time. Not enough free weights, treadmills, and class offerings are very few and far between. They have way too many ellipticals and I only ever see one person on them at a time while all non-tv screen treadmills are all in use (not many like to use the tv treadmills). Every month I think they will do better, but these issues continuously persist. Locker room is also usually musty and gross. I stick around for the very cheap price, but even for an average membership that is $30 a month I expect this place to accommodate its regular clientele.

Assuming you negotiate a good eal, the gym provides all the basics. Good locations well distributed around town, pools, some have movie rooms, friendly patrons that lookout for each other. The negative, some of the saunas are not hot enough to get anti-aging benefits, equipment tends to stay broke for a long time, and historically dust has been an issue at some locations. Grandview has a excellent cleaning staff at the moment. I do recommend the gym, as it can be excellent value, but I deduct one star for the sayna, and one more for broken equipment, most specially the stair climbers.

For as many people that we have here talking about our horrible experiences trying to cancel our memberships there is definitely enough of us for a class action lawsuit.
Please reach out to me on facebook with any interest.
I have been trying to cancel my membership for the past two months and my experience has been nothing short of dreadful. They tell you that the only way that you can cancel is either in person or through the mail, but I have heard nothing from my attempts to reach them through the mail and when I can finally make time to make it there during their operating hours the "proper" manager that I need isn't available. DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE, they will never let you go.

The gym looks great but there are so many issues that I see every day.
1. So many machines/ cables are broken
2. The water filter is always expired and needs changed. They haven’t changed it.
3. The men’s changing room always stinks
4. There are trash cans and places for paper towels in the men’s changing room sinks but never any paper towels
5. There’s no scale. Last one was beat up and never calibrated
6. Weights need replaced due to rubber ripped off. And there’s only (1)105 lbs dumbbell.. where’s the second?
I’m paying $40/ month and it’s honestly not even worth it anymore. I’m either going to ask for a lower rate per month or change gyms soon.
Side note: the manager is a great guy, great salesman, but there’s just some things that I listed above that just need fixed asap.

Very poor management, I had to talk to 5 people and come in 3 times just to adjust my membership. Machines stay broken for months, very crowded, and they have opened over an hour late in the morning.
UPDATE: They will not let you cancel your membership. The “right manager” is never there durring regular business hours. They had me send a letter to cancel and over a month later I am still getting charges. I’m reporting this as fraud on my credit card to stop the charges. They even hang up the phone if you call to cancel your membership.

I would have given this club four stars. It's a little old, but it's cheap.
Then, I tried to cancel my membership.
Months later, they are still charging my card. They call me regularly and claim they have no record of me canceling my account, and they tell me it's my problem that they "lost" my paperwork.
My advice: don't join a gym that makes it harder to cancel your membership than it was to sign up.

If you sign up you might as well sign your life away since you can’t cancel your membership over the phone, email, or past 5 as only the operations manager is able to process cancellations and they work Monday-thursday to 9-5 just like everyone else so it’s impossible to cancel!

Originally gave this place a higher rating but they have essentially given there pool times to the British swim school during after work/school hours. There are not reasonable times to go swimming in this facility. I prefer the Hilliard esporta for this reason.

Personally was not my favorite gym due to the busyness; however, it was by far the best experience I’ve ever had with a gym when it came to getting in and out of a contact. I was looking for something short term with no hidden fees and/or a cancellation fee, and that’s exactly what I got. When I wasn’t satisfied and asked to get out of my membership, they helped me with no difficulty whatsoever and gave me a full refund. Sean (manager) was incredibly helpful, informative, understanding, and is exactly the type of person you want to be dealing with when trying out a new gym.

Wanted to lift at esporta using the 3 day guest pass, which is clearly stated as free and can be activated when you get to the gym. This esporta, however, wanted us to 1) tour the entire building and 2) sit down to talk membership plans with the sales team before we could even think of actually using any of the facilities. Not only that but after being told all of this we had to sit and wait for 15 minutes before we finally decided to leave. I realize that we technically didn’t pay anything but my time itself is valuable and this was an extremely frustrating experience. Be warned if you are trying to use the guest pass here - the amount of hoops required to jump through is not worth it!!

I have been going to this gym for only a short period of time. I joined because the prices were great and I was looking to save money. One thing I love about this gym is that there are classes offered everyday you can just walk in and enjoy. However, overall this gym is filthy and overcrowd. The equipment is old and gross. It looks like they have never take time to clean any of the equipment. It is always so crowed, and for the amount of members that come to the gym, you would think they would try to keep it clean and updated. No matter what time you come it’s too many people and you have to wait so long to use something. Honestly, this gym makes me not want to work out anymore.
They do not even have mats (yoga mat or smaller mats) that you can use because they said they threw them all away during Covid… I feel like they should have been invested in new equipment since then.
Honestly I am not happy with this gym, and I just wish that they would do better with the upkeep of this place cause it would make the experience a lot better.

My buddy offered me a 7-day "free" vip pass to use at this gym while the RPAC was down this week for cleaning, but I was still forced to pay the day pass. I later asked the staff why this was the case, and I was told, "It is not good for business if we let you use the free pass if you do not plan on buying a membership." I was going to buy a membership to this gym after I graduated, but I'm not sure anyone should support this money-grab. I know I'm spoiled by the RPAC, but there are not nearly enough free weights to support the amount of people that go to this gym! Proceed at your own risk if anyone gives you a "free" pass to this gym. It is the definiton of false advertising!

I used to go to the Grandview location several times a week to work out,and mainly use the sauna. They had the best sauna in town. But about a year and a half ago, the sauna heater broke down, and it was replaced with one that didn’t get nearly as hot. So I stopped going a few weeks later. I called the gym last week inquiring about the sauna now, and how hot it currently is. I was told by the lady working, that it was getting up to 180 degrees, which isn’t as hot as it used to get, but still decent. So I tried it again tonight, and not only was she completely wrong about the temperature, it was even colder, the sauna also smelled terrible. It wreaked in a way it did not before. Between the lukewarm temperature and the stench, I decided to just hit the shower. The showers are also substandard as well, as most of the doors don’t latch properly, the shower heads don’t provide an even water stream, and the water pools up at the drain. These problems always existed before as well. In short, this location is not maintained at all, and I would never return nor recommend it.

Decent selection of equipment but that's it. Went to cancel my membership in person and was told some crap about them needing a manager to do it even though the manager who manipulated me into buying a membership was there at the time. Just canceled it online for anyone who wants to cancel and is getting an excuse just for them to make more money. Overall, gym was always super crowded and cleaning supplies were rarely ever found/stocked.

Facilities are adequate. Disappointment in the details. Biggest complaint is with the pool. During peak times be prepared to have 4 or 5 adults waiting on a single lane as they have returned to having infant swim lessons in the first two lanes between 3 and 8 pretty much all the time. That also means doing your laps in a kiddie pool. Staff is fine, cleanings eventually happen, parking is satisfactory, but how do I wish we didn’t have management double booking the pool time.

Been stopping in this gym when visiting Columbus since 2012. Since it switched from LAF to Esporta, they added equipment you don’t see at LAF.
Indoor pool, track and very open room concept with large glass windows allowing lots of natural light in.
Generally very clean, except for the equipment framework not being cleaned by staff. (Reason for only 4 Stars.)
If you’re stopping in to check on a tour or membership, be sure to ask for Caleb.

It's convenient but never seems quite clean. And mgmt *really* needs to put an etiquette sign on the sauna door reminding people to rinse off before they come in. All these disgusting people come sit in the sauna *directly* after working out without rinsing off first, and it *stinks.* Saunas should be a calming, enjoyable experience, but none the Esporta ones ever are bc people can't use common courtesy. Yuck.

I absolutely love this gym. I have been working out at this location since 2019. Although this spot can get extremely busy during the peak pre- and post-work hours, it comes fully equipped and you generally won’t wait longer than 20 minutes for the machine(s) that you need.
Cardio machines are plentiful. There is also a space for private classes, boxing, yoga, etc. The cherry on top is the sauna. For a gym that is extremely popular from students and locals alike, it is very well kept!

They make it impossible to cancel:
Called in trying to cancel my membership and was told I would need to come in person. I then came in person over the weekend and was told you can only cancel by seeing a specific person Monday -Friday 9-5. I work full time during those hours. I asked if there was anything I could sign now and was told I had to see this specific person to verify it is me that came in (even though there were 3 people working there who could pull up my account and verify it is me). I was then told I could email that person and call them over the week to see if they will accept the fact that someone else at the gym saw me come in but more than likely will need to come back in during the hours that one person works.
I would say only sign up here if you live super close, only option or in love. I was looking for a gym, thought I would try this place for a few months but when I didn’t really find it as a good fit for me, I’m now stuck running in circles to cancel it.
