⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Review for Painesville YMCA

The Painesville YMCA is truly one of the best facilities in the county. The Child Watch program is outstanding — by far the best around — and the staff there genuinely care about the kids. They often do crafts with them, are incredibly attentive, and treat every child so well. They work so hard it’s ridiculous, yet always seem to have a smile on their faces and something kind or encouraging to say. I honestly can’t appreciate them enough.

The services and programs offered are excellent, and there’s always something for everyone whether you’re looking to lift, swim, take classes, or just get a solid workout in.

The staff are fantastic, especially Michele at the front desk, who greets members by name and always starts my mornings on a positive note. The facility is clean, well-run, and welcoming, and although I also enjoy the Madison YMCA, Painesville stands out for so many solid reasons.

A few minor downsides worth noting: the Child Watch area is up several flights of stairs, which isn’t ideal for those with mobility issues; I once had a bag stolen, though that was an isolated incident; and occasionally the ceiling leaks, so a bucket might make an appearance. The strips along the track area could also use some maintenance, and it would be great if they added a stretching machine like some other gyms have. The app/ website is really wonky/ funky, so I wish it was a bit more organized and user friendly.

That said, the positives absolutely outweigh the negatives. Painesville YMCA remains a top-notch facility with incredible staff and community spirit — definitely deserving of a full 5 stars.

The staff is extremely unwelcoming. We came in at about 7pm on an evening we were told a staff member was available to discuss a membership. We walked in to 4 or 5 male staff sitting and standing around the front desk talking. Two of them stared blankly at us, not uttering one single word; no greeting or anything. We awkwardly told them why we were there, and one guy pointed us to a lady at a desk in the office. She acted as if we were impeding on her time. She handed us an application. We only asked a couple of questions because she made us feel so unwelcome. I expected so much better from a place that is supposed to want to see people live healthy!!!! I'm honestly surprised there aren't more bad reviews here!!! Do better!!!!

The secretaries are inept; they always make mistakes and serve you with a sour face. Every time I make a record of an activity, they make me go back to correct the mistakes they make. They should replace them with more pleasant staff who enjoy their jobs.

Good facility and good price. Nice new strength and cardio equipment, and many other amenities. Men's locker room has a sauna and steam room, and both are kept clean. The pool and whirlpool in the public area are usually clean and well maintained.

One of the best YMCA’S in north east Ohio I love the locker room space, weight room, gym and the steam room. The jacuzzi is the perfect temp and the pool is the perfect size. I will definitely be back one of my favorite gyms to visit 👍🏻

Had a membership here for a long time, brought my kid here for pre school/daycare. They were aware that my son has a disability as he is on the spectrum. After barely two weeks and many phone calls home along with missed work they turned him away because he has a hard time with transitions basically. On top of this the staff recommended a school for “kids like him” that is permanently closed. I feel like my son was basically discriminated against because of his disability. All I got back from them is “It’s not fair to the other kids.” Well what’s not fair now is having to try to explain to a 4 year old why his school didn’t want him. Would never recommend this place they do not care about those with disabilities.

After I joined, they reduced the pool hours ... And almost eliminated the second pool. I am really, disappointed with them. They blamed it on their insurance company, but "come on!!" Just hire another life guard! It's not rocket science!

Very poorly run center. They only want cookie cutter perfect children, and cannot control a 3 year old who does 3 yr old things. The "director" cannot keep her personal issues separate from the center's business and takes her stress out on the kids. More than a few times my little told me she was mean. Got to the point that he would not acknowledge her when she spoke to him & he is outgoing and friendly towards everyone.
Highly recommend sending your kids somewhere else.

Swam two /3 times a week. And the pool temp was about 82 degrees for seniors with arthritis. Hot tub, steam room, and sauna. And the staff treated everyone with respect.

I was there dropping off weight equipment and assembling too. Atmosphere was great. No egos, women dressed inappropriately. The people came there to handle their business. Great place for children too. By far better than Planet Fitness, Fitness 19, Fitworks, and Lifetime Fitness. Those gyms cultivate toxic culture letting women dress for inappropriate purposes for attention and then play victim. YMCA is the way to go hands down and it's not even close ! The director Meghan was good to talk to as well

Huge! Alot going on gym was nice I would prefer to go to Madison ymca to work out but if you want the pool or the sauna this is the spot this is the third ymca (ashtabula,madison and now here in Painesville)I have gone to and the only one that has a dry sauna for the men and a wet sauna the locker room is by far the largest and nicest has a few couches some tables and a pool table like its about time the men's room was treated like the lady's room am I rite guys lol if I come back (35min drive) it will be for the saunas alone for anything else I would go to madison :)

My kid hates the daycare. She doesn't even want to go. Then she came home with a swollen eye. Some kind of allergic reaction and the staff didn't even notice. The Dr said it's most likely from a bug bite.

It’s so nice here. It can get a little crowded but it’s open for a good chunk of time. Life guards are on point. Outdoor area too. Also a vending machine area. Takes cards. Three different pool areas and pavilions also. Locker rooms are pretty nice. Will be back when we can! Some covered areas but don’t forget sunscreen!

The place is terrible the employees are rude they let the employees do illegal things like reading people's statements when incidents happen that they cause it's terrible and these people still work here the lifegaurd with the blonde hair and glasses Is very rude she takes things out of childrens hands very strict here to the kids can't do to much and are scared of the rude employees the pools are nasty I just think the place needs checked out there are things going on there that shouldn't be happening

Wonderful center for the community. Received a great tour by Matt. Registration is nice and easy. It's beautiful , neatly organized. I love the fact that my son was able to take a pool safety class here with his classmates. All my questions were answered, so many things to do. Staff is professional following Covid Guidelines.
