Please save your money and go to planet fitness next door. This ymca is a joke. The sauna is always cold and never getting fixed. They claim parts are on the way every month, yet nothing is done. They are increasing membership fees because people are switching gyms and can’t keep up with “operational costs”. Advice, fix the equipment, for good, not bandaid it every couple of weeks and have issues again and again, then people will stay at the gym. For now, stay away.

I’ve been a member on and off since 2015. Pros-nice pool and hot tub, a variety of workout classes and machines. Staff are friendly. You can also use your membership at any other YMCA location. Cons-the showers in the family dressing rooms and men’s locker room are cold 50% of the time. The pool is also usually crowded. Prepare to wait for a lane if you want to do laps. They’re also a bit pricey and seem to raise the price more than other gyms I’ve belonged to.

I recently started going to the Y as a benefit through my medicare provider. Facilities are clean and staff is super helpful. Lots of space in the locker rooms with nice hot showers with good water pressure.
I am definitely a beginner and started going to the classes recently. Never once have I felt judged, but welcomed. There are a variety of classes to choose from at various hours. It's been a great way to start my mornings.
I have not tried the pool yet as I am not yet comfortable in a swimsuit, but hopefully soon.
They recently have started offering free mental health counciling for members and it has been helpful for me.

Being older doesn't give you a pass to good health. YOU NEED TO KEEP MOVING, and my Y allows me to be involved and stay in as best shape this old older body will allow. 4 stars because the men's basketball leagues are constantly cursing, bouncing balls in the hallways, largely just being a nuisance.

I understand there's a certain culture around basketball, but this is the Young Men's Christian Association, not a street court.

I was overcharged. When I tried to go in to cancel I was handed an iPad and told to do it myself. I also had to pay for an extra month. If I could do it myself why couldn’t I cancel from home? I was also charge an extra $30 fee. When I called to ask about the fee I was told my payment was returned. I was never notified from my bank of a returned payment and my account has never not had more than enough to cover the payment.

The owner reached out and since we have been back it has been nothing short of great. They truly take complaints and work on resolving the matters at hand. We are really enjoying our membership this time around. The staff has been great. Yvette and Jessica are such a pleasure!

Initially we loved it here. However we seem to have been misled during the tour. We were advised that during swim lessons as long as we stayed on the other side of the rope we would be able to swim. The pool is closed at their discretion with no advanced warning so a few times we have made it there dressed and ready for swim for nothing. Some kind staff and some extremely rude staff. They claim it's 15 minutes for lap swim or hot tub yet they allow others to over run that time while we wait for lanes to swim or to enjoy the hot tub when we don't hav the kids with us. For the past few months there has been nothing but issues every visit. If you work a typical 9-5 you more than likely will not have time to make it to a special class like Zumba, yoga, etc because their times do not coincide with the working persons schedule. Unfortunately we tried to cancel today and were told there are multiple steps to cancel and that we probably can't figure it out online but to take a pic of instructions to see if that helps. SMH GOODBYE YMCA!

Staff is very helpful and kind, the facility is very clean, the scheduling for the pool is great plenty of reasonable family swim is scheduled. I love getting my workout in, then swimming. My boyfriend and I love to take all of our children there for family swim. The kids LOVE it. They also have a daycare in the facility which is extremely convenient for us. Well worth paying for a family membership over other rec centers.

Our family have been members here for years. We love the convenience of the childcare, and the team treats my little ones as their own. My son never wants to leave!

The Lakewood YMCA has a great weight room upstairs with a wide variety of free weights and machines, all in great condition. The staff is excellent and the trainers are competent and helpful. The rooms are being cleaned constantly and broken equipment is fixed right away. Keep up the good work!

I really enjoy the group classes at the Y, especially the spin class led by Laura and the body pump sessions. One suggestion I have is to ask spin instructors not to turn off lights during classes (only Laura doesn't do it). It gets quite dark and cramped, which can be a bit discouraging. Exercising should make you feel energized and alive, not like you're in a dark cave.

Overall the Y at Lakewood is well run, well equipped, clean, and friendly. Worth every penny!

The aquatics department needs to be restructured. Between mechanical failures and lifeguards just not showing up there's a very rare instance where everything is available. I've come in twice this month where there wasn't a lifeguard available which resulted in myself and others just having to leave.

The folks behind the desk are so friendly and welcoming. They are also professional and well informed. It was a pleasure to complete my registration and receive my ID card. My only complaint was how rude some members were to the ladies who were simply trying to do their job. I think the YMCA should post some sort of sign warning that bad behavior towards staff will not be tolerated and will result in loss of privileges.

Sadly writing this for all the women who are missing the opportunity to play basketball at their local YMCA. This place used to have a great women’s league with many retired collegiate D1 D2 caliber players who came from all over the Cleveland/Akron area to participate. Under new management, they have eliminated the women’s league in it’s entirety and claim there is not enough “gym space” to begin a new league. A fancy way of saying, we don’t care enough about women’s basketball. This is certainly an injustice for us women especially with the advancements made over the years in women’s sports. Can’t believe you can’t sacrifice one night a week to allow for some equality. Our sports matter too!!!

Good lookin place but the lifeguard let me dive in the pool to do laps and 4 minutes later closed the lap swimming. Instead of just apologizing, the staff at the desk made every excuse fir this. This shows some piss poor communication skills imo.

I'm also frustrated because they are painting the locker room at west park and n Royalton is closed until the 18th. So I have nowhere to swim and now my suit and towel are wet. So going later ain't an option.

Just joined a couple weeks ago to improve my life and fitness. Everyone is so incredibly nice and helpful. This is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. The place is very clean and up to date. The staff and other members are very nice. So far, we have not encountered any drama or snooty meat head types. If you are joining this Lakewood location of the YMCA to use of the pool, sauna, or hot tub as a differentiator against other options, I would pass on this location. These areas are closed at least once every 4-6 weeks for several days at a time due to
mechanical failures that are never permanently corrected. It is a cheap gym option, but you get what you pay for at that price it seems.

I love how nice and helpful all the staff members are. It is so nice to walk in and be greeted with a smile. The facility is always clean. The fitness instructors, lifeguards and trainers always seem to love what they do. The pathway child watch caregivers are very sweet and great with are kids. I drive past this location to go to the sauna that’s in downtown Cleveland. The sauna doesn’t operate more than half of the time, they have ridiculous rules that you have to rinse before going into the sauna that 1. Doesn’t work. As you walk to go to the sauna in ful gym attire because you want to relax your muscles and i don’t know. Pay money to go there every month. The lifeguard will (at a full run) stop you from going into the sauna. Honestly it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

A great option for working out in Lakewood! Super affordable, with lots of programs to help. They do fitness challenges and have sports leagues, but I mostly do my own workouts in the well-spaced gym. The machines all are like 1-2 years old, so they’re in very good shape with nice tech features. They also do outdoor yoga in the summer at Lakewood Park!
