Over the years I’ve accumulated a few recurring injuries from sports, working out, etc that were steadily flaring up more often and I was worried that lifting any serious weight might exacerbate the pain day to day. I’ve worked out on and off throughout my life however when these injuries would flare up, I’d basically quit to “rest and recover” but I would lose any progress I had gained and then get frustrated from losing all my hard work…Rinse and repeat. I found that I would be “resting and recovering” for longer and longer periods of time, basically avoiding the gym or any semblance of a consistent training program.
I was hesitant at first to start working with a trainer. This was coming from a misplaced point of pride because I had played sports my entire life. I thought I had a solid base of knowledge to fix it myself. Well, I was grossly wrong. After just a few sessions with John, I realized I had been wasting so much time trying to do this on my own. John was able to quickly identify weaknesses that were related to my injuries and he put together a program that started to strengthen areas that I had completely overlooked leading to an immense improvement in my mobility and quality of life.
The results have been nothing short of amazing. I am lifting heavier in every single category than I ever have in my life. What’s even more incredible to me about this is I am doing it PAIN FREE. Don’t get me wrong, there are training sessions where I might be sore or feel like a muscle/tendon is aggravated and coming from a past of being told to “push through the pain” has probably led to several of my problems I’m addressing now. However, the most incredible part to me, which has also led to enjoying my training sessions with John so much more, is that whenever a problem arises, he quickly diagnoses the problem and comes up with a solution to work around it. At times this can include isolating the muscle group to try and work through it or sometimes, completely flexing the workout to more of a physical therapy/recovery session. This allows me to continue to see improvements in my training even when I might not be able to push 100% and preventing any unnecessary injuries.
I mentioned above I was hesitant to work with a trainer but in hindsight I really wish I had just taken the leap earlier. The marked improvement I’ve noticed over the last ~1.5 years is nothing short of amazing. I'm very excited for this next phase that we are starting and look forward to continually improving my overall health working with John.

Before working with John, I was nervous about lifting heavy weights. I have now been working with him for a bit over a year, and I have doubled or even tripled the amount of weight I can lift! He makes sure that I have proper form, and moves forward when I am ready. Exactly what I was looking for in a trainer!

Before I started working with John I never had any real guidance or coaching in any fitness aspect of my life so... I wasn't sure what to expect. My biggest concern was being judged for my (lack of) fitness and also fitting a routine into a fairly busy schedule.
I was relieved when I started working with John that there was no judgment. He was upfront with where I was lacking but presented it in a matter-of-fact fashion without judging me for letting myself get there. That approach worked well for me so I knew early on John would be a good fit for me. He was also able to tailor a routine to fit my schedule and is very flexible if I need to move appointments around.
Earlier this year my daughter was born. Being a little older than the average new dad, I quickly realized I wanted to be around for her long as long as possible. My biggest goals were weight loss and just general improvement to my health.
I've been training with John for about 2.5 months. The achievements he's helped me make already are amazing, I can honestly say I'm in the best shape of my adult life. I've lost over 20 pounds (it would be more if I behaved better on vacation and over Thanksgiving), feel amazing, and have gained strength and mobility. It's been eye-opening how much more strength and mobility improve your day-to-day life and help me better keep up with an active little one. Before training, I couldn't (gracefully) lift my daughter up over my head and let her ride on my shoulders. Now it's a very easy motion for me, and she loves riding up there.
Working with John has been great, he provides great motivation without judgment. He knows how to get quick results even when you don't have a ton of time to dedicate to fitness. I enjoy my sessions with John and the improvements he's already helped me make provide more than enough motivation to keep at it to become even stronger and healthier.

John takes a consultative approach and doesn’t adopt a “one size fits all” attitude. He works hard to develop a unique program that is tailored to your personal fitness goals. He works hard to put his clients at ease and is not judgmental in the least. He varies the routines every couple of weeks to prevent things from becoming stagnant and to encourage continued progression. If a particular exercise is too difficult, he is able to modify the routine on the fly. He is constantly checking on his clients throughout the session to ensure they are not experiencing any injuries or over exerting themselves. When a muscle cramp or minor injury occurs he is quick to stop and help the client stretch and work out muscle tension. He does push his clients, but in a way that is both encouraging and motivational.
Since working with John I have noticed a significant improvement in my posture, muscle tone, and overall strength. I am lifting more weight am feeling more fit than I did when I was in my 20’s. I would recommend John to anyone looking to get into better shape regardless of their age, gender, and current fitness level.

My training experience with John has been great! He has helped push me while also being encouraging and positive. I can ask him anything and he will give me responses that make me want to be successful. If I’m having pain in a certain area, he will find a substitute exercise to do so I don’t get hurt any worse. I really appreciate how flexible he is with scheduling too because I am such a busy person. I have never been one to enjoy working out but he has made it fun while also continuing to push me through it. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a personal trainer.

I was honestly nervous working with another person. My fitness knowledge was very basic and I thought it would be challenging. I thought that it would be too hard for me to keep up with also. The way exercises were explained to me were incredibly helpful. I was never pushed to a point where I wasn’t happy and this kept me motivated to keep going. The vibe given every time I go shows a truly caring person who is willing to do everything to help me achieve my goals. The two goals I had were building muscle and losing weight. When I first stepped into the gym I weighed 181 pounds and I’m 5 foot 4 inches tall. Working with John I’m down 30-40 pounds. As of writing this I am 143 pounds. I also have a lot more mobility. My endurance is far better too. Working with John is one of the best decisions I can say I will ever make in my life. This is in part that my future goals require a healthy life style. Everything going forward will be due to John helping me reach the goals I set now.

Working with John has been outstanding! From your first evaluation he really gets to know you and lays out a clear path for you to reach your goals. The best part is if you listen to him you quickly start reaching them! The thing I struggled with the most when working out was sticking with it over time and with John that is not an issue. He makes going to my workouts fun and something that I look forward to! I’ve got to the point where I get upset if I have to miss a workout. With that being said, John wants me to reach my goals just as much as I do. If I have to cancel, he quickly asks when I want to reschedule for instead of blowing it off and waiting until my next scheduled workout. If you want a trainer who pushes you to reach your goals, while having a good understanding of where you are at in life, all while having fun, John is your guy!

Professional, Positive Results!
I became health conscious when the COVID lock-down started and through dieting and walking I lost over 15 pounds in two months. Motivated to continue my physical fitness and to gain lean muscle mass, I grew interested in weight training. At age 56 with little prior experience in the gym, my main concern was about achieving my fitness goals without injuring myself in the process.
My trepidation ended after the first call with John. We discussed my goals, concerns, and prior physical injuries, and from there John created a customized multi-phased training program that also accommodated my busy work schedule. With each training session, John boosted my confidence by taking the time to explain and demonstrate proper techniques for each exercise. He motivates me to work hard – but instantly stops me at the first sign of doing anything close to being unsafe or could cause injury. John also includes a training app that not only tracks training progress but shows upcoming training programs and exercise demo video clips. It also connects with my My-Fitness Pal app so John is able to provide feedback on my diet – an all-around great motivation and communication benefit.
I can’t say enough about how positive, professional, and accommodating John is in helping me achieve my fitness goals. I recommend him 100%!

I wanted to focus on avoiding injury by improving my core strength. I wasn't really interested in buffing up or making lifting a time consuming hobby. John has done a great job of tailoring the workouts to my specific objectives and ensuring I'm able to fit them into my schedule. I've also been very happy with having the workout tuned to my equipment or lack thereof - especially important during Coronavirus. I've managed almost weekly increases in either weight or reps. John is a great guy who is your partner in achieving the objectives you define together.

Developing a good workout routine had been my goal for the past several years, but building up the courage was difficult. I finally convinced myself to sign up with a local gym and John at Liberty Fitness because I needed guidance for my goal of getting stronger. Initially when I started, I was expecting workouts that were demanding and intimidating, especially for someone who hasn't set foot in any gym other than a school gym. After meeting John, I saw that I was wrong. John has worked with me for a little over 4 months. During my workouts, he is very understanding and laid back, but at the same time you get the workout you signed up for. Most importantly, your workouts are without any judgment or feelings that something in your workout will be impossible. John customizes each of his client's workouts to their specific goals and schedules. During COVID-19, he even helped me keep on track with my goal by doing at home workouts. I've been happy with my results so far; I have gained 4 lbs but lost 4 percent of my body fat. In other words, I have gained mostly lean weight. If you are looking to develop a good workout routine (at any age), I highly recommend John at Liberty Fitness!
