I recently signed up for Modo and while the studio itself is nice, clean and the teachers are great, I absolutely hate the amount of people they allow to take a class at once. 45 people in the studio is terrible. You can’t even sun salutation without hitting your neighbor, I feel my neighbors hot breath and sweat on my back, it is so unpleasant omg. I mean every studio in cbus is basically just a money grab at this point, they don’t focus on the actual practice of yoga - it’s about cramming as many people as possible into a hot room, making you feel extremely claustrophobic and you can’t even fully enjoy the yoga class. I’m constantly worried about hitting My neighbor, making sure we’re staggered when doing certain poses. Idk I would rather the studio increase prices a bit and have less people in a room, it would make for a more meaningful and impactful experience and class environment. And I know I’ll get some comment from the owner saying “well we want to accommodate as many people as possible, yada yada”… maybe have more class times as well? That’s also another option.

I recently moved to Columbus and decided to give modo yoga a try. The studio space is ok, but most of the teachers including the owner Chad do not have a strong practice themselves and don't understand yoga. They discourage student growth. They will give all kinds of excuses such as safe space, accessibility, etc. and nitpick on what you do. The studio also breeds hypocrisy. On one hand they ask students to maintain silent space inside the studio, and on the other hand they play all kinds of music including rock, metal, etc. in the class. I have never seen such blatant butchering of the practice and teaching of yoga. I will not recommend this studio to anyone. The way they run this studio and what they teach cannot be further away from the teachings of yoga. Don't fall for the positive reviews. They are inherently biased and written as a part of their Bingo challenge. This studio doesn't want to learn. They only want to impose themselves and whatever they try to teach (not yoga) on you.

If you like hot yoga, Modo Yoga Columbus is an amazing place to be. They have a robust class schedule, excellent teachers, and shower facilities.

I've been going there since 2019. It has turned me from doing yoga a couple of times a month to several times a week. So good!

My gold necklace was stolen out of the peace room by one of their cleaners. The manager and employees were no help on helping me find it and just shrugged it off every time I went in there and asked them for help. I called and texted the manager and she never called or texted me back. I am moving forward with a police report at this point.

I've been practicing yoga for over 15 years at studios across the country and Modo Yoga is up there with the best hot yoga studios. The studio has a great energy and committed, talented instructors; each class has its own uniqueness depending on the yoga background of the teacher. I also appreciate their "sweat etiquette" policy — the yoga room is a place of silence, both talk and phone, so everyone can enjoy an environment of peace and meditation. Modo is challenging for students of all levels. I visited a number of studios when I first moved to Columbus and once I found Modo, I knew I was home!

I’ve been attending for coming to two years, even if sometimes I attend only in spirit due to limitations on getting in. It’s an excellent studio, and I have some experience in other states and in different styles. This is a really well rounded studio with excellent variety and teachers. Tons of times and classes and experiences to be had. All hot yoga of course, but many teachers have their own style and pace and ease etc. I firmly believe it’s the finest studio in Columbus overall. I am new to in studio yoga- but I find that practicing here (or the Grandview location) has helped me to cultivate a peace within myself that I struggle to find with my busy life. The studio is clean and the staff is welcoming. Classes are offered at a variety of times and with different focuses- so you can choose what works best for your practice. Not gonna lie, the unlimited membership is pricey (at least for me), but i can see and feel the difference in myself and in ways I hadn’t expected, so it’s worth it. If you are looking for a place, or just looking for your own peace, I would highly recommend that you give it a try.

I've practiced yoga for more than a decade and Modo is the best studio I have found. If you like the heat - then you will find peace, classes for all levels, an inclusive community, great teachers and a home away from home. The studio is very clean and there are showers available for after class. What I love most is the positive and encouraging vibe of everyone. Going to yoga class is one thing - but finding a place that makes your soul feel inspired is entirely another. My body feels better and so does my mind. And to me, that is unique and wonderful to find in a yoga studio.

Travel nurse from Florida where I was really missing my hot yoga studio. I tried every studio in Columbus when I got here and nothing compared to the quality of my home studio.

I was also a personal trainer and owned my own gym for years. I also taught yoga for 5 years.

I read other reviews here with one star complaining of heat and safety.

I call bullshit on them.

1. Not once have I seen an instructor be unsafe or use movements that are not standard , or threaten the skeletal system.

2. I’m also a trauma ICU nurse and I know my anatomy more than others.

3. As a previous studio owner I can confirm that when you are successful people will come for you and try to take what you have worked so hard for. I think the term is “ Karen’s “. Or as I experienced other studios that are not doing well Will have friends give bad online reviews.

4. To those of you complaining about the heat. Hot yoga is NOT for everyone. Especially many women you may be entering or in menopause and their hormones are blocking their bodies from regulating temperature like the rest of us.

5. I highly suggest not starting any fitness program and walking into a power flow hot yoga class. I used to tell my clients until you can do 50 full burpees in less than 10 minutes I don’t want you in a heated room doing vinyasas. So I gave them that homework , and watched them do the burpees before I cleared them.

6. Even with this being said. Again Hot Power Yoga is one of the most difficult workouts out there. I think it’s even harder than cross fit. Because you’re also challenging your mind.

7. If you can get through an hour or wanting to escape the heat and gradually add the poses you can then take that lesson into the world. Because we can only control what’s on our mat. Get it.

8. So for those if you giving this place 1 star. I say this with grace. STFU and go somewhere else. I think I speak for many who go here. We don’t want your negative energy in our practices anyways.

Back to the review ….

I also have an eye injury so I can’t be in a room without light. I then came across this studio. The heat is spot on. And the studio has a giant window that allows natural heat in. Or. And acts like a magnifying glass killing a bug 🐛 which for us hot yoga groupies live for. Nick is my favorite instructor here. He has an innate gift that doesn’t come off cocky or arrogant, then kicks your ass like a love / hate relationship that we crawl back to begging for more. 🙏.

As a lifelong yoga student who has practiced in studios around the world, I was excited to explore a heated practice and joined Modo for six months. While I did enjoy the physical challenge and the benefits of sweating, I often found that the studio prioritized intensity over safety or technique. On several occasions, the room became so hot that students had to leave mid-class, and even instructors acknowledged it was overheated—yet little was done to adjust the temperature or ensure student well-being.

More concerning, however, was an interaction I had with an instructor named Jess. During one class, I felt overheated and laid on my back to gently stretch—both to cool down and accommodate a spinal injury that limits my ability to do certain binding postures. Jess came over and told me I was being distracting and could only lay down passively, not stretch. Already feeling vulnerable, I was embarrassed to be singled out like that. After class, I explained my spinal injury and limitations. She responded by pointing to a poster of the “Modo sequence” and told me I shouldn't attend if I couldn’t do the full set of postures.

I raised the issue with the studio manager, but I was disappointed to see no change, and Jess continues to teach. This raises serious concerns for me about how Modo supports students with injuries, mobility needs, or those simply listening to their bodies—especially in a high-heat environment where modifications should be encouraged, not shamed.

Since leaving Modo, I’ve found much more inclusive and mindful instruction at Go Yoga and Aya Yoga. Both studios offer heated options, but they place a much stronger emphasis on alignment, accessibility, and the true practice of yoga—not just sweating.

I hope this review is helpful to anyone considering their options, especially those who value a safe, welcoming space to grow in their practice.

Tonight, I took PJ’s version of the classic “Modo” form at 5:30 at the Grandview, OH location. Each instructor approaches the classic “Modo” a bit differently although it’s the same pose sequence, so what I really appreciated about PJ’s class was how technical it was and how articulate she was in general but especially with how the pose should look and feel when done correctly. I also loved how her suggestions of modifications were right on pace with how our bodies were flowing! I’ll be back 😍

One of the best yoga classes I have attended. The community room and number of participants creates an energetic feel alone, but Lianne's ability to define detailed movements to challenge your practice really amps it up. Currently, I am a ClassPass member trialing out Modo, but Lianne's class definitely has me considering a membership.

Hot yoga is hot. It pushes you and makes you more resilient, more centered and more in touch with your body. Hot yoga is better for my joints than anything else I’ve done and it can really burn a lot of energy. I was a complete yoga novice and have had no problem getting adjusted in the regular “Modo” class. The flow class is a little more technical than I want and the calm classes are a bit too slow.
The Modo studio is beautiful, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to each session.
I sometimes wish there were a few more class times offered during the day but that probably not economical for the studio.
All in all a great addition to my health and happiness and I will be incorporating hot yoga into my life from now on.

I just started at Modo this month. I am an experienced yogi, just out of shape & practice. At modo I have felt welcome every class. There are modifications available for newbies or more advanced
people. The hot yoga is so refreshing! i can’t get enough of it right now. I had never tried hot yoga, but it’s game changing. i love sweating. there is a parking lot for the studio. The class setting is so quiet & perfect. They offer an area to clean your mat after class. The locker rooms have showers. Everyone is very courteous of each other’s time & space.

Loved doing hot yoga here. Lianne was an amazing instructor and so sweet after. She asked at the beginning of class if anyone didn't want her to touch to adjust. I think that is a sign of an instructor that has been doing this for awhile. And she made sure to talk to everyone after. Would definitely do her class again.

I absolutely love Modo Yoga! The instructors have all been amazing and there's a nice variety of classes and available times. The studio is a quiet space which makes it very special and there is plenty of room to socialize in the lobby before or after class. I found hot yoga to be very intimidating before coming to my first class and I'm so glad I gave it a try!

Hands down my favorite yoga studio in Columbus. I love a hot class and I used to love a power flow, but 2 kids and covid later I like a good workout but also like a less strenuous class. The MODO signature is it for me. Sarah is my preferred instructor. She is very intuitive and her adjustments are always spot on. Jamie is also great. They both offer a different spin on the signature class. They also have showers which is top priority when trying to maximize time.

Chad's yoga instruction was powerful, which created a truly transformative experience for the students. He had a commanding presence that made it easy for students to stay focused and engaged throughout the class. His clear and concise guidance made it easy for everyone to follow along, regardless of their level of experience with yoga.

In addition to his powerful instruction, Chad's meditation practice was restorative and deeply calming. He created a safe and peaceful space where students could fully relax and let go of their stress and tension. His soothing voice and gentle guidance helped students to connect with their breath, quiet their minds, and find a deep sense of inner peace.

Finally, Chad's poses were challenging yet invigorating, and left students feeling alive and energized. He carefully selected a sequence of poses that stretched and strengthened the body, while also promoting relaxation and balance. Each pose flowed seamlessly into the next, creating a truly holistic yoga experience.

Overall, I would highly recommend Chad's yoga class to anyone looking for a powerful, restorative, and invigorating yoga practice. His instruction, meditation, and poses are truly transformative and can help students find a deep sense of inner peace and well-being.

Wonderful community, experience, and management. Lianne is very understanding and communicative. All the instructors have great hearts and show they care about you as individuals. It can be hard sometimes to get into touch with them, but it's understandable with the hours and how they can get swamped with messages, but they will always get back to you. Love this place.

I've been practicing here for only 6 months (100+ total classes!) and I'm grateful everyday that I stumbled onto this studio. There's incredible flexibility with both the timing of classes and the type - I love having the option to sporadically shift between 6AM "flow" (cardio) classes and 8PM "yin" (restorative) practices. Their website insists that all ability levels are welcome, and that's ABSOLUTELY true - it's such a comfortable atmosphere, even for beginners!

The instructors and the huge sense of community are what sets this place apart. The instructors are incredible and take the time to get to know the students. The community is incredible— judgement free, friendly and empowering. I love the heat in the rooms and the way the instructors cue modifications and additional challenges and stress the importance that it’s your practice so do what feels good in your body. I’ve been going to Modo for the past year and couldn’t be happier with the results I’ve seen both in and out of the studio.

The community is wonderful, the hot room gives you life and the classes / instructors are the best there are out there. (And I’ve practiced at many studios.)

Modo is the best! I've practiced at lots of different studios over the decade plus I've been practicing in Columbus, and Modo is definitely my favorite. I've been going here for 5 years now and finally became an annual member this past year, allowing me to go as often as I want! Worth it! The heat is the best and I love that the flow classes are challenging but still slow enough to be beneficial - we aren't' just flying through poses for the sake of getting our heart rate up as I have at other studios. Instructors are great, they do a great job of building community. Thanks, Modo!

Modo Yoga is, quite simply, top-notch. I'd say it's the gold standard for studios in Columbus. It's a great workout, and the instructors are talented, and friendly - able and willing to share their knowledge with people of all skill levels. Love this studio. They offer classes throughout the day, we’re strict on vaccinations with proof before entering the studio, and I appreciate that they are strict on no late entrances, as this disrupts others practice. Modo is truly a home away from home. Entering and leaving the space I always feel a sense of calm and belonging that I haven’t always felt elsewhere. I have been going to Modo consistently (among other studios) over the past 3 years and can honestly say the sense of community they foster and the welcoming environment is the best in Columbus. I love it so much I even decided to take their teacher training recently. All the teachers are amazing and you can’t go wrong with any class you select as they all bring a slightly different variety or flavor to the practice. All classes are accessible to all levels, which I also appreciate when I want to bring a friend or colleague, that might not practice yoga often, with me to class. The hot room can take some getting used to if you are new but after 2 - 3 classes you will learn to love it and even crave it (surprising I know). Do your mind and body a favor and check out Modo!

Modo is more than just a yoga studio. It’s a never ending ray of sunshine in Columbus. Their classes and instructors are amazing, but their ability to spread positivity in an ever changing world and create a sense of community and inclusion inside and outside the studio is unparalleled. I would recommend Modo to anyone looking to try yoga for the first time or an advanced yogis out there. Classes are structured to allow for different levels to practice at the same time through offering modifications to each pose. Regardless if it’s your first class or your 100th, you’ll leave feeling great!

I tried hot yoga many times over the years at different studios but never found one I liked enough to join. Modo Yoga changed that for me. I have had constant back pain for a long time and wanted to commit to getting my body right. After joining Modo back in July of 2020, I have become completely addicted to it. My back has never felt better. My overall mobility and flexibility have gotten so much better in a short period of time.
Every instructor leads class a little differently, so I recommend remembering which instructor was leading class whether you have a great class or not so great. Also, what time you go to your practice makes a difference too. I go in the mornings mostly because of my schedule, and I feel much better for the rest of the day. However, my balance and flexibility are much better later in the day.
I recommend the Trial month. Go at least a few days a week for a month and you’ll know if you want to do it for the long haul or not.
If you have any questions, ask the instructors. They are all very helpful and have helped me make modifications to certain poses for my body.

TLDR: An aesthetically pleasing studio recommended for people looking to supplement their current exercise routine.

I did the one month trial membership at Modo. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
-Modo Yoga has an excellent practice space and a friendly staff. The locker rooms are clean, the lobby is spacious and welcoming, and the staff are kind.
-I would recommend this place to those seeking to supplement their workout routine with one or two yoga classes a week. Find a couple instructors you like and stick with them. The owner, Chad Underwood, has a particularly good class which I recommend to anyone.
-The staff have frequent, very cool social events to grow their community such as monthly evening socials, weekend retreats, and yoga + brunch combos at local restaurants.

Cons:
-Although I enjoyed the majority of my classes, I *sometimes* found myself "just going through the motions" or "trying to follow along" without feeling that there was much emphasis from the instructor on proper form among practitioners. Important cues such as foot placement, hip orientation, and weight distribution were sometimes neglected, and I felt like there was a strong expectation for yogis to already know the nuances of proper form before arriving.

Overall: This is a great studio for people looking to supplement their existing workout routine or looking for a casual yoga practice. I look forward to following their progress over the next year or two; this studio has a lot of potential to become one of Ohio's premier yoga studios.
