I live about an hour and a half away and go to Oak Shadows once or twice every year. I was thrilled to discover it several years ago. I believe it to be an excellent layout winding its way through a couple of valleys. There are a number of elevation changes, and small ponds making the course interesting. It's one of those courses that just flows with the land. It's absolutely gorgeous in the fall when you are surrounded by hillside's of color.

The greens have a lot of undulation and you do not want to be above the hole when they are running fast. I will point out that three of the greens had hornets or some other menacing wasp type insect living in them and one was particularly bad. I understand that the male variety does not have a stinger but who can tell the difference? They've had this problem for several years and I'm not sure why it has not been eradicated. This can be a very challenging course because of the elevation changes, water hazards, and a lot of areas that are just left natural. Sometimes the location of the cart path can take a slightly offline shot and convert it into a bad bounce penalty so be aware of where the cart paths are.

As much as I like the place it does have issues. The clubhouse is basically a temporary module affair. Small snack bar and the people are friendly as can be. The cart paths need resurfaced. There are areas of the rough and around greens that aren't maintained as well as they should be. The cards had insufficient sand in the containers and it's clear that people are not filling in divots on the fairways. There has been a lot of rain in Ohio this year making it difficult to keep courses mowed and somewhat dry. But because this course is in a valley it does have issues with softness. Traps could use more maintenance. I also think the greens are over watered anyway. If they were allowed to firm up approach shots would require a higher level of skill. From the White t's it is only 5800 yd. There are two or three t's behind those however allowing you to make it as challenging as you would like. The practice green is small and very slanted. You really don't get enough of an idea of the greens or enough area to practice in. The range leaves a lot to be desired. Basically you're hitting from the top of the hill down the hill.

Prices are very fair, probably too fair. We were charged $35 on a Friday morning for a senior rate with cart. I would like to see them charged more and promote the course, using the extra money to maintain the condition a little better. But it's a beautiful layout and I will be there to or so times a year regardless, especially in the fall.

This is a lovely and scenic golf course — rolling terrain, plenty of nature, and overall a fun layout to play. However, the experience could be drastically improved with just a few thoughtful investments.

First, they desperately need a starter. Right now it’s a chaotic free-for-all, leading to a frustrating backup at the first tee. If you simply look out the window of the “clubhouse,” you can clearly see the pileup of carts waiting. It’s not a new problem, and it’s surprising management hasn't addressed it.

Second, the "clubhouse" needs serious attention. It's an old modular home with peeling paint, skirting, exposed wheels, and junk lining the base. A little paint and some basic cleanup would go a long way in creating a better first impression.

And ladies — be warned: there are no porta-potties or restroom options on the course. Plan accordingly.

The course itself is beautiful, but these easily fixable issues may cause golfers to think twice before coming back.

This place is a gem. The layout is among the best in Ohio in my opinion. The last few years have been awesome. They have improved every aspect of the course. The greens are among the best and most challenging in the area.

When you consider the price, I do not think there is a better deal around. Most of the time, you feel like you are on a $100+ course.

I really enjoyed playing this course. The greens are in good shape and rolled true. The fairways are in great shape, with the exception of being soft and in some places still soggy from the hard rain the day/night before, but very playable. The staff (Jacob) and Pro (Craig) are very hospitable. I'm looking forward to playing it again when I am in the area.

Had the opportunity to visit home for the day. Moved away and haven't really had the opportunity to play here for a few years. If you haven't played here before, it is a must play if youre in the area. Beautiful scenic course, craig has done a great job with this course throughout the years. Course has matured perfectly since its creation in the mid 90's. Very generous driving areas with perfectly placed bunkers protecting the greens. There is lots of water throughout the course, so this is not just a grip it and rip it course, got to have a little course management here. Greens are fast but hold. There are numerous tee boxes and I do recommend playing up if youre not super long. Fairways are usually a little damp so you dont get a lot of roll on the drives.

In my opinion, this is the best public course in Northeast Ohio (with Chippewa). The greens are large, smooth, and roll fast and true. It’s a creative, scenic layout with the front being very different from the back. The views on the front nine are fantastic and you get to play elevation changes throughout the round. For the reviews that say it’s busy… all the courses in the area are stacked with tee times. The club house leaves a lot to be desired, but is sufficient. If there is heavy rain the day or two before the front nine can play very wet! If you catch on a dry day/week this course is a pleasure to play!

This was my first time to this course and wow was it ever a treat. The dramatic elevation changes, strategically placed bunkers and risk/reward shots make this course a welcome challenge. There is plenty of length for the long hitters off the back tees, so I would say this course is anything but tight.

Now the downside that has to be mentioned is the pace of play. Like most people, I’m no fan of most starters or roving rangers, but this course absolutely needs both.

Groups teeing off 20min early, 3 solos going off one after the other and not being paired together and a 2some playing 9 going off on the back leading to congestion are just a few things I witnessed. This caused my round to take 4hr50min on a Friday afternoon.

Overall I would say the course is an amazing track with spectacular views, just get a little structure to keep pace of play organized.

This course is the definition of a hidden gem. You won’t find it on any list for top golf courses in NE Ohio but this course took my breath away. Many people will say the boulder creek’s or Fowler mill’s are the best but I have played them all and this course stands alone as the best of them all. Country club conditions, a mix of water, beautifully designed bunkering and fairways, and gorgeous fescue. To top it off, the staff were extremely friendly and genuinely cared about their patron’s experience.

Absolute hidden gem. Near perfect conditions for a public course. Almost every hole has unique character…especially the fairways. Stunning views. Beautiful location and very close to town. Just outside New Philadelphia this golf course offers gorgeous landscape views while golfing. This is a great place for functions. This is also the site of the annual Marlite Share a Christmas golf outing to benefit T4C's share a Christmas fund.

I’ve played golf in NE Ohio for 45 years and never played Oak Shadows. Our group , from Akron, drove 45 minutes and played OS yesterday. What a surprise! Great layout, lots of elevation changes (but not mountain golf), beautiful vistas. Although there are plenty of ways to get in trouble, the fairways are very generous. Greens are well protected but always a positive area to hit an approach shot. Fall green fee, weekday, was $25. Only downside was the greens were punched about a week ago and not rolling smoothly, but so is just about every course this time of year. Will definitely be back!

Finally got to play this course and was very impressed with lay out. It would get the full 5 stars if the greens and tees weren't a mine field. Very disappointing to see golfers that are good enough to hit these very receptive gems, not repair the damage they caused. As well as repairing divots. Hopefully the Superintendent will get the resources to plug and top dress as much as needed before it's too late for the greens.

Oak Shadows is a wonderful layout. It's always in good shape. They've done a wonderful job of leaving nice natural areas that look great. The lack of trees on the course is fantastic and is one reason that the fairways are always so good, no trees shading the fairway and competing for water and nutrients. You have great views of other holes and can see what's coming up. There are a number of down hill tee shots with great views from the tees. I always see wildlife there, turkeys, deer and turtles to name a few. The staff are friendly and helpful and always make for great experience. I have some wonderful memories of round played here over the years.
