Received this email Saturday September 20, 2025 stating the gym will be open until the end of the month. My husband and I go less than 24 hours after receiving the below email so Sunday September 21,2025 and the doors have already been locked for good.
This right here sums up our experience with onyx. The owners only took pride in some of their locations and obviously neglected this one. The heat never worked, the gym was never clean and there was never a worker in sight. Not to mention you could never use the extra amenities because NO ONE WAS EVER THERE!

I have been trying to cancel this membership since April. 21 calls to get ahold of someone. I have followed through on instructions with an email. I at some point in this got a customer service number that gave me another email. ( neither of which is what my husband had to do to cancel his last fall) AND I AM STILL BEING CHARGED. I threw my key card out after the last email or this would be camp out and start causing a scene situation. Don't join this gym, you'll need a lawyer a cancel it.
I remember fall of 2017 when some one sat out side twinsburg with signs saying onyx took my money... and I get it now. They were on to something. If that person is reading this, do you still have your signs?

I’ve been at Onyx Northfield in November ‘24. At the time I noticed some things needed to be fixed, deep cleaned, and the lavatories were out of soap and paper towels. Since Jenn became GM 3 weeks ago, she prioritized the cleaning and basic lavatory needs quickly and is making great progress on getting things repaired. Jenn and Zane have been on the ball and making a positive impact on the overall atmosphere of the gym.

I just realized how misleading the pictures on the website are 🤣 the northfield location is missing 50% of the listed amenities. I've had a membership here for over a year, and it's gone down hill since Sage stopped working there.

Jen took positive control the Northfield Onyx her very first day, the improvement was immediately noticeable. The machines were cleaned and serviced, the Lav facilities were cleaned. Every facet of that Gym got better Immediately.
Jen's Interaction with members was positive, informative and understanding. I could go on and be long winded, the only thing I need to say is Join Onyx Northfield.

I’m new to this gym, I can’t remember her name but she was so helpful in helping me figure out what certain machines was used for. I love how she always check in on people around the gym, I always see her cleaning and organizing while asking people for their advice on if they want to see anything different. We’ve spoke briefly and she was such a sweet soul 10/10 recommend!!!!!!!

Called to set up a tour, lady said she’d be there and she wasn’t. Was just trying to sign up bc we live right next door. Reached out and we’re told to go to another location, not sure what kind of marketing that is. Doesn’t really make sense to drive to twinsburg when there’s a location right here in Northfield. Just terrible business management guess I’ll take our money elsewhere.

I used to enjoy this gym when I was in town for holidays or other occasions, but that is no longer the case. When I requested a weekly membership, I was quoted $50 for the week, which is outrageous. The GM’s tone became aggressive when I told him $50 was a bit out of my price range.

Hands down, the best gym I’ve ever been to. I’m so glad that I got a membership here. I have been working out here for almost a year & I have not regretted it once. The staff is nice, the gym is clean, the culture and environment is friendly & nice, and Seth (personal trainer & gm) is awesome! I recently signed up for a gym membership and also personal training with Seth. This has easily been the best decision I’ve ever made! Seth is an amazing trainer who truly wants to see you succeed and improve your health. Not only that, but he shows through his actions and how he treats everyone that he genuinely cares about everyone who steps foot in the gym. If you’re looking for a new gym or for somewhere to start working out, the Northfield location is definitely it! I highly recommend it!

In September I signed up for a membership under the assumption this club was open as the website and owner said it was. Went to the facility and it was closed and only scheduled to open for 1 month which I was okay with waiting. However the opening was delayed and ended up opening 3 months later in January. I requested that I get a refund for a YEAR long subscription seeing that I couldn’t go to the gym that I I initially signed up for however they refused and said that I can go to a gym that was 20 minutes away. Gym and gym owners are terrible, avoid at all costs.

This location was closed for approx 6 months for a remodel. During that time members were transferred to the Twinsburg location which is about triple the size and has nicer equipment and a nicer building. Of course for me, and most others I'd presume, it was farther from our homes. As a temporary measure that's totally fine.

Now the "remodel" is complete. Here's the rundown of it. They moved all the cardio equipment back in the gym to make a larger front desk area and office for staff. This resulted in all the machines being in a more crammed space. Do you want to go on a treadmill? Well hope you are ok with staring into the soul of the person on the elliptical because they are facing each other, like seriously who thought that was a good idea.

They also put in a new floor. The floor is not super high quality, will easily become dirty, and is not even fully level. You can feel patches of it that are raised or lowered from cracks in the cement underneath. Moreover the free weight area is still just a concrete floor.

Don't worry though there are now TV's hung in the free weight area for all of us who love to watch TV while laying down on a bench press, none by the cardio equipment though you just have to stick with staring at the person across from you.

Equipment wise nothing was added when the "remodel" was done. If anything there is less equipment now. There were barely any attachments around for the cable machines, there's still only one good squat rack if you are planning to go heavy, and the dumbbells all are shaped like a banana from being dropped so much.

Can't speak for the women's locker room but the men's was effectively made smaller by the remodel. They moved the entrance to the other side and put in new sinks (at the time I was there soap and paper towels were not present) the lockers were moved to the opposite side but not fully against the wall and still had the rusty nails sticking out of the back of them. Still no showers even though that was advertised to me as a thing that would be done in the remodel.

Despite all of this the membership is the same cost as any of their other clubs, which as stated at the beginning are much nicer, but further away, and it's not a cheap price either.

Long story short go somewhere else.

(Full disclosure this review was written a couple weeks after my last visit but seeing as 6+ months saw almost no change I doubt this has changed since then)

NORTHFIELD REMODEL UPDATE: Same as before, only no more classes or good vibe, a weird set up inside with TONS of wasted space for people to chill (no one does) instead of a place that is larger and more spread out and comfortable. This location was conveniently located near my job, and a staff member had brought in some free 3 day passes. So I went the following day and was greeted by their maintenance guy who was very friendly and knowledgeable to the business and even walked me through all the equipment and the pricing . They are currently remodeling but despite that fact I was allowed to work out. When I returned on a following day I was greeted by the GM there who also was friendly and knowledgeable and was interested about myself and my goals for when I was there at the gym. I would highly recommend.. excellent customer service and very friendly staff. Alot of variety of equipment and even coaching sessions.

This gym has been closed since mid summer for “upgrades” and when I walked in here the second day of re opening I’ll just say it was a disappointment… the roof is LEAKING, equipment is broken and it’s not even finished yet. When I think of upgrades on a gym especially with it being closed for so long I think of repairing the roof that needed to be done, cleaning up the place and new equipment. NOPE. They knocked down a couple walls, slapped more tvs on the walls and put down new flooring. Big. Whoop. They should really lower the membership cost at this rate because this isn’t fair or worth it anymore.

The gym was supposed to be shutdown for repairs from 7/1/22 and it was supposed to reopen on 9/1/22. The Facebook page said it was open and I drove up on September 3rd to workout. The gym was closed!!!!! The original sign that was posted by Brandon, the
gym manager, was still on the door as being temporarily closed. On top of that they had 2 past due notices for electric bills that hadn't been paid for 1500.00 dollars!!! I didn't receive one email about them not reopening. The owner clearly is unprofessional and irresponsible to allow this to happen and to NOT PROPERLY INFORM the Northfield gym members!!!! Learn how to properly communicate with your customers because they are the ones who keep you in business!!!!!!! Extremely aggravated and disgusted regarding this entire matter.

I came here when it originally opened around 2016 and 2017 for a trial. Now I just came back today with my younger brother and I will tell you all this, get a membership. It’s more than worth the money and the drive. I have a 40min drive and I won’t mind it just because it’s worth it. I believe in an amazing future for onyx and the owner and employees here. There are a few gyms around that are clean and have everything you need, but here they have Sydny Boose. This amazing women has not only inspired me to live a truly healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally, butvto walk through life confidently and with the knowledge that I can do anything I put my kind to! From the jump, the GM Jose was extremely friendly and welcoming. Im a huge beginner when it comes to lifting and he broke it down in a way that just made sense. Even though he barely knows me, he has been there to offer assistance and help push me every step of the way. Thanks Jose!!!

Just moved the area and needed a gym and found Onyx while doing some research. Went in and had a tour with Jose (awesome guy btw) and loved all the equipment they offer and the pricing is perfect and the 24/7 access is super convenient as well!

Just went in this evening with my wife for the initial sign-up process. We were promptly greeted by Jose, polite energetic and incredibly helpful. He had me signed up within 10 minutes for a fraction of the cost of other gyms in the area. As for the facility, spotless and highly functional with a plethora of equipment and freeweights. Onyx is the absolute best place to workout! I participate in the small group classes and the one on one trainings with Jose and Markus and they both have helped lose weight and inches off my waist! They are whole of energy and push you to ready your goals. Onyx is like one big family and I’m happy that my best friend got me to join.

Been coming here for years and I have always had great experience with the staff and everything the gym has to offer! It is always kept clean, theres lots of equipment to choose from - from free weights, to hammer strength, to stationary machines. The gym is expanding as well, so what was always enough room and equipment will get even better! Personal trainers seem to always be working hard and very helpful too if you are in need of a little extra motivation! Couldn't ask for a better 24 hour gym to go to! 💪😎
