It’s Ok at best. They have the equipment and space, but it’s a lot of little things. Like the water fountain doesn’t work sometimes but then 3 dollars for Walmart bottled water. The staff doesn’t seem to understand the system so sometimes you have to go without tanning or massages. Clean wise it’s ok I can always find at least one dispenser without paper towels, and one time I found a mouse. Again don’t love or hate it but the smaller things need work.

I’m not quite sure what happened to this gym over the last couple of years. It used to be a great facility with great staff. It seems like COVID was the turning point though. Nothing has been the same since - the staff specifically. No one seems interested in work anymore. A few of the female desk workers are very rude too. I would love to see this gym go back to the way it used to be.

Today I had an extremely informative talk with a team member, Adam. I am a beginner when it comes to working out and didn't really know where to even start. Adam helped answer questions I had, helped me map my macro intake, and even designed a workout plan for me to follow. He was extremely helpful and I left with a greater understanding of what to do when I go back to the gym.

Signed up with them when they had pre-signed up before opening in that location in 2018. When I started my journey to a healthy lifestyle. Haven't stopped going to hit some body parts. It's a great gym for someone who is starting out. It's way more cleaner and the layout is great compared to the mall one. Equipment gets replaced if they wear out or are broken. The only down side is trying to cancel your membership I open up one for an uncle, he forgot his password when he got a new phone. Took me a while cause they couldn't help me and I had to cancel payments through the bank. Update 2025 I don't go to planet fitness as much as I used to sense I've gotten more into fitness and wanted to experience more gyms but, as recently they've gotten more lifting equipment and free weights I feel I can stop here more and get better workout as more experience lifter.

I have had a membership for about a year. Everything is good for the most part. Equipment is clean and in good condition. I’m just noticing a lot of inconsistency with your employees. I was told I wasn’t allowed to have a small bag with my exercise bands of any sort on the gym floor. This is totally fine with me, however, as I’m currently on the elliptical I can see at least 2 women with duffel bags on the gym floor! So why are they allowed? Is there only “policing” of the gym floor on certain days 😂

Secondly, I’ve been bring my 13 year old son and his 13 year old friend (who’s mother has a black card with a guest pass) for about a year now, and suddenly today we are told that he is not allowed to be here without his mom? I mean, that’s fine but again, why now? The boys are so disappointed. They’re just trying to workout and I’m here supervising both of them. Just sad that’s all!

I wanted to go out of my way to give a special shout out to the Painesville, Ohio staff. The gym is always exceptionally clean and the staff extremely friendly. David made my day today with his kindness and by how professional he is. Allison, Jake and Katarina are always welcoming, very friendly and make coming to the gym a joy.

The subscription prices are low and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The gym, bathrooms, change areas, showers are clean and have a ton of different workout equipment. Returned to the desk and was then told he was only employee working so he couldnt show me around. So now when i show up at 6am tomorrow I wont even know where looker room is! Beware they try to keep charging you after you cancel your account! Per my contract I don't have a buy out clause, and I turned in a paper asking to close my account 7/8, 2 days before the required date! On 7/17 I was still charged and again this morning I was charged yet again. I have filed chargebacks with my bank, but I feel everyone needs to beware!

I don't know where you get off. I came in looking forward to getting back to fitness after injury and illness. It isn't that I didn't like the people or the place but just how are we supposed to trust any of you when you blatantly lie about your fees. I asked every question in the book and yet I still found out after being told the opposite and shown charts to the contrary that there is an annual fee on top of your monthly fee. False advertising is bad enough but when you train your staff to lie by omission there is no way I'm trusting anything you say. I recommend skipping this company and finding a more honest choice.

I have been a member since December of 2022, and this is my first gym membership. So that said, and being clear that I do not know what the hell I'm talking about, I will offer this:

Place is clean- including locker rooms- the temperature and air circulation perfect. 98% of patrons are considerate and are there for one thing only. The place is large enough that you can generally find a machine to occupy your time without any waiting.

Nice place, great price. Much better than I expected given the uber-affordable price. The employees are friendly and work hard to keep the place clean. I also love the people who workout there.

There are negatives. For instance, they offer no studio classes, and I love HIIT classes during the cold months. And the only true free weights are dumbells. They top-out out at 75-pounds, too light for deadlifts, squats, rows, and dumbbell bench press. So you'll need to adopt Smith Machine exercises which aren't as effective.

But there are so many upsides it's tough to justify moving.

I like the place...I just wish if I am paying for a gym membership that boasts 24/7 access (which PF in general advertises) I'd like to be able to have that. However,the Painesville Ohio location still hasn't returned to 24/7 Only Mon-Thurs is 24 hours. I work long hours so there are days I'd love to go but they are closed when I am off. We had an incident yesterday with the Mentor location and it is well worth the extra 5 min drive to go to Painesville. Let me tell you about my experience at Planet Fitness. I have wanted to join and when a PF opened up close to where I live (Painesville Twp.). I was excited to try it out but I hesitated walking in because I already belonged to a gym down the road and when I had signed up there many years ago, I was intimidated and pressured. A few weeks ago, I decided to go into PF and see what it was all about. I was nervous when I walked in but was immediately greeted by a friendly smile (David) and a happy voice and we went over the available plans. We discussed the difference in the membership plans and it was left up to me to decide. Not once was anything pushed on me which was a relief. After going through the plans, it was no brainer to choose the PF Black card. The do not have physical cards, instead you download an app (with the free WIFI, it was easy to create the account while I was still at the gym) and you check in by logging onto the app and scanning the q-code at the front desk. Super simple. I like that with my plan, I can use any Planet Fitness and I can bring a guest. Also, being unfamiliar with this gym and the equipment, it was nice that a new member orientation class to meet with a personal trainer is included. I discussed the goals I wanted to achieve and we created a plan. All of this is included. Not only did I get one on one attention but there are many fitness classes that focus on different areas of the body. I have already attended many classes with the personal trainer, Crystal. Having her instruct me on how to actually use the gym equipment including TRX, has been fantastic. When I am not taking classes, I have come in on my own to work out and I don’t feel like everyone is looking at me or judging me for using the equipment wrong. I feel confident when doing my routine because I have been trained on how to adjust them for my size. Another nice thing at the gym is that they have something called a “Lunk Alarm.” If someone is grunting or slamming equipment the alarm goes off as a warning not to do that. I always found that slamming weights and making weird noises was super irritating. You will not see people talking loudly on their phones either. They have signs up and limit cell phone use to a certain area. After I have worked out, there are (3) perks included to help you relax. The first – FREE Tanning. That alone is less than the cost of the membership. There is also a “Total Body Enhancement” machine. This machine shines warm lights on you and it vibrates your muscles. It is something I am addicted to using. Lastly, the hydromassage. I had never heard or been in one before signing up at PF but it is the best way to end your time at the gym. This machine massages you from head to toe and you can adjust the area and the pressure. It’s very cool.
