I suffered a herniated disc last spring. I was in so much pain by October that I was scheduled to have surgery. In December, I was feeling okay enough to avoid the surgery, but I still in pain and always feared the pain would return or I would inevitably have to have the surgery.
I joined Revive in December because of a suggestion from my chiropractor and family members that had been members. Steve created a plan that made me feel comfortable to start moving again and build strength. I was able to have the guidance I needed to continue to build on my progress at an appropriate pace - something I don’t believe I would have understood alone. I am now lifting twice a week, walking over 10,000 daily, and down 20 pounds in 3.5 months.
I have always felt supported, safe and excited to workout at revive. I am so thankful they have been with me on this journey!

I have been working with Jonathon and the team at Revive for a few months now and let me say signing up was the best decision I made for my long term health. I have had reoccurring back pain my whole life & when I first started at Revive in April I was experiencing some of the worst consistent back pain of my life and for the first time as an adult stopped exercising completely. After an extremely extensive consultation Jonathon created a plan for me that not only rehabbed my back in about a month but also had me moving my body and lifting heavy again with no pain. In addition, he has helped me through all the hiccups, back related and otherwise that have come up with my health along the way. I cannot recommend this place enough. I had a mysterious injury and had really given up hope on running again or even being happy, but since I have been coming here I don't even worry about returning to running. I feel so much stronger and accomplished and I feel that with continuous work with the help from my trainer that running will absolutely be back on the table. All of the coaches are approachable, very nice, and more than happy to explain or demonstrate movements if your assigned coach is not there. As part of an overall weight loss journey, I requested sessions with a personal trainer from my husband for Christmas this last year. Having already lost 20 lbs in 3 months, but doing it with the Keto diet, I knew I wanted to change up the way I accomplished an overall weight loss goal of 70 lbs. I didn’t feel healthy and was only making modest strides with improving my cardiovascular health, not to mention on-going pain in several areas. The pain issues included a right shoulder that hindered me from raising my arm above said shoulder or reach behind my back; pain in both knees simply going up/down a few steps or trying to walk distances greater than a half-mile; and lower back pain. My husband researched several individual trainers and gyms that offered training services and gifted the list to me to talk to each one and make the final decision.

Revive Strength and Wellness was the first one on that list, and after meeting with Luke, there was no need to talk with anyone else. I quickly learned about the Revive approach of individualized plans, the team’s experience with helping clients manage and overcome all levels of physical challenges, their training philosophy as practiced through a medically aware yet holistic approach and could just “feel” the positive energy in the building. I marveled watching a woman who looked about my age deadlift a sizable barbell over her head and heard a small voice inside me say “You know what, maybe you can do that too”. I signed up and met Coach Jonathan.

Jonathan – I swear he can power an entire city block with his positivity and radiant smile. He listened to my goals, my fears around my health and physical well-being and what my current state has done to my self-confidence. Then he proceeded to reassure me in his calm and authentic manner that he was there for me, not as a trainer, but as a coach. He follows through on those words every time I’m there, and even when I’m not and we’re texting each other. Even though Jonathan is my coach, Steve and Luke are just as involved and will help guide and instruct if Jonathan is helping someone else. It is truly a team effort, and every client is known.

Accomplishments after only 5 weeks: down another 12 lbs utilizing a new nutrition plan of tracking calorie intake and macros in the everyday, healthier food that I eat. Shoulder is pain-free, which occurred within 2 weeks of sessions and overall, I’m feeling so much stronger. It’s strange, I never thought I was ever weak, but the simple act of standing still and upright now feels so much more “solid” and stable. And can I just say ENERGY – there are times that feel like my metabolism is unlocking and leveling up.

With each session, my initial goals and reasons for starting are evolving into something more – transforming into a new mindset and passion for being the best version of myself and BELIEVING I will get there. That small internal voice is so much louder and confident now. Although I’m at the beginning of my journey with so much road ahead, Jonathan is my navigator and I completely trust him (& the rest of the Revive team) to guide me.

For me, dance is life. It was my escape. It was my love. It was my inspiration. It was my creation. When I wasn’t dancing, life had a way of becoming so dark.

On Valentine’s Day in 2018, I was driving home from Lexington after performing at a charity dance show for a women’s shelter. It was midnight and raining and I was cruising on 80 mph, blasting Egyptian music through my subwoofer while dancing like those hamsters in my Kia Soul. Fast forward and I’m hydroplaning and spinning in circles on 71N until my back end hit the median wall and my car flipped over…in…slow…motion. After regaining consciousness, I walked out of my shattered sunroof with a severely bruised left side. I had a big show and several more gigs coming up, so I ignored the pain (and my friends’ advice) and kept dancing, which of course included back bends, splits, drops, and whipping my hair back and forth. Three months later, my hip seized up, I couldn’t walk, and my left arm was completely numb. I had to stop dancing. I didn’t have a choice. How could life be so cruel?

After several months of physical therapy, the feeling in my arm finally came back, but I still had chronic pain in my hip and neck and a chronic muscle spasm in my back from a pinched nerve at c5/c6. I resigned myself to living in pain and tried to manage with weekly massages. Every time I tried to dance, the numbness returned and the pain flared up, so I became afraid to dance and eventually resigned myself to never dancing freely again. Since I stopped dancing, my muscles started to atrophy and I became very weak. Life seemed so hard and my light started to dim with every failure until I found myself in utter darkness.

Four years after my accident and a pandemic later, cue Sanjay, my lucky rabbit foot. He helped me overcome my dreaded fear of weirdo chiropractors and facilitated my VIP treatment with Will Cornett of Mt Lookout Chiropractic. I just wanted relief from the pain, so I was in disbelief when he said he could get me back to dancing. That’s when Sanjay told me that Revive had a similar philosophy of not just getting people to feel better or stronger, but to get them the ability to do the things they used to love, or never thought they could but always wanted to. Here we go with the fear again… I saw the pictures on the website…how was I going to overcome my fear of gyms and all that big, industrial-looking equipment that everyone but me learned how to use decades ago? Well, I wanted to be a magical unicorn, so I psyched myself up and asked to meet Luke and check it out. Best. Decision. Ever.

How do I write about Jonathan? I feel like I can’t do justice to a coach who has helped me transform my life in just a few short months. He challenges me to be my best every day without pushing me over the edge, in life and in workouts. He learned my unique needs and tailored my workouts to build the strength I needed to do all the wild and crazy dance moves I love. One day in the not-too-distant future, I’ll be strong enough for him to lift and spin me overhead like Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing; in the meantime, I’ll just take his giant hugs. All that aside, the biggest lesson I learned from him was how to tell the difference between pain that should make you stop, and pain that you should push through, emotionally, and physically. It sounds so simple, but this is the very big problem that prevented me from doing what I love. And Jon was there to see me do it! He has a very busy life outside of being a coach and personal trainer, but he showed up. He came to my big show at BLINK to see me dancing again. It means the world to me to have his support. Fittingly, I was glowing with LED lights on the outside to express my bright new light on the inside.

This time last year I was diagnosed with osteopenia, struggling with menopause symptoms, and in physical therapy for lower back pain. My physical therapist recommended that I meet with the team at Revive Strength & Wellness. I was intimidated to work out in public and embarrassed about letting myself get into such bad shape, but after meeting with Luke, I became a member and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Luke paired me with Steve who developed a personalized plan for me that includes two weekly workouts designed specifically for my fitness level and growth. I had to have thumb surgery and Steve created ways for me to continue my workouts with a cast on my hand so I wouldn’t lose momentum.

The community is great with members ranging in age from age 14 to 70 plus. I never see anyone doing the same workout. We’re each there for different reasons and have different fitness levels, but we share a common goal to be healthy. All of the coaches are friendly, supportive, and on-hand to answer questions.

I’m happy to report that one year later, my back is pain-free, I’m feeling stronger, have better balance, and I look forward to my workouts. I’m actually doing deadlifts! I highly recommend Revive Strength & Wellness and I’m so grateful to Steve and the team for helping me overcome what felt like huge obstacles last year.

Revive has helped me to run again - pain free! After a couple of sports injuries over the years (hip and neck), I'd pretty much given up hope that I'd be able to run again - something I've enjoyed doing for most of my life. Although I was lifting weights prior to joining Revive, I was experiencing routine neck flares and knee pain, and I often felt stiff, inflamed, and like my body was out of balance most of the time. I'd completely given up on running due to ongoing pain post runs. After a rather intense neck flare last winter, my chiropractor encouraged me to talk with the guys at Revive, and I am so glad I did! 2-3 months into working with Steve, not only was my neck feeling great, but I was able to run again without pain! Five months in, and I'm now able to do longer runs multiple times a week - something I haven't been able to do in years! In general, I feel stronger and more balanced than I have in awhile, and I'm excited to see what's ahead as I continue to build strength. I'm so grateful for Steve and the guys at Revive for showing me that with the right support and proper training anything is possible.

I came to Revive Strength and Wellness with a hip and low back injury from a wrong way drunk driver accident in 2016. I worked with a prior trainer whom made the original injury worse by pushing high weight on Olympic exercises and not focusing on the root cause of the issues. From there my daily pain was increasingly uncomfortable. I tried everything I could; yoga, cryo, deep tissue massage and Advil many times a day. It got to the point that I gave up hope and accepted I’d be in pain every day. Having known Jon from prior work he suggested I come check out the gym with confidence that it would help me. His exact words were “give it three months”. Within those three months my pain subsided and began to disappear all together because of Steve’s focus on the root cause of my pain. The community within the gym is a blessing, it’s a support system unlike any other and a family. I have now been pain free for just shy of a year- I gave it well more than 3 months because of the help Steve provided me and as mentioned the community. I am moving about pain free and able to do functional and compound exercises by myself with ease. Working out is like a diet, you can’t drink protein shakes and take vitamins or do strength training and run on the treadmill to be healthy it takes a balance and time to see improvements. You need functional training and exercises that work supporting muscles, I can’t stress enough this gym is different. If you’re looking to improve and be pain free give it three months . Steve, Jon and Luke are the utmost professional trainers in the Cincinnati and thank you for Sanjay for creating such a special place for improvement.

About six months ago I switched my focus from cardio to strength and was looking for help on how to get there. I was referred to Revive and decided to check it out. Luke identified my imbalances and helped create work out plans designed to strengthen and correct that imbalance..plus other areas I didn't even know needed correcting! The results of how I feel have been amazing (ie no more left hamstring or glute issues when I run). Luke has listened and met me where I'm at and helped create a path that I'm excited to be on. Meeting with Luke a year ago to discuss my fitness was one of the best choices I have made in my life. When we first sat down, I was overweight and feeling pretty hopeless about my fitness. My body was in pain due to years of contact sports and a ton of skiing in my 20s. I repeatedly injured myself in CrossFit-style environments and just gave up on working out for a few years. Because he is an absolute expert in his field, Luke identified exactly where I needed to be focusing and programmed specific workouts that met me where I was and helped to heal some of the injuries created by bad movement patterns and imbalances in my body.

Luke, Jonathan, and Steve are by far the most talented fitness professionals I’ve ever encountered. They are constantly improving their knowledge and are so much more than “personal trainers”. At this point, I consider them close friends and fitness and lifestyle mentors. These guys truly love their clients and care deeply about their health and well-being.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a 15-year-old student athlete or a 70+ year old adult, the team at Revive are creating workouts that are appropriate to your level of fitness and honor your individual needs. Revive is so special. Last year, I started developing muscle atrophy on my thigh. My chiropractor said lifting weights would fix it. I didn't believe her, but for vanity reasons I set up an appointment with Luke. He paired me up with Jon - the biggest coach at the gym (I think he's 6'5"). I was so intimidated. I'm 5'1'', petite, or as my friend likes to say, 'skinny-fat'. I had never really done a squat in my life. The word gym stressed me out. I was that type. A little over a year later, here I am. The dent on my thigh is gone, and I don't even know when it disappeared. My focus shifted, I forgot I was there for vanity. I now exercise because I actually enjoy it and it helps me prevent illness. These guys, finally somebody, helped me transform! I look forward to my personalized work-outs (my coach is great about checking in on my stress levels, sleep, etc and tailoring them accordingly), the familiar faces and conversations (I can actually have a brief convo now while I exercise - I used to need all my breath and focus to lift a weight). I have been working out with Luke for over 5 years. I first went to him after a significant back surgery where I lost all feeling and strength in my left leg. I started at Revive in June and it has completely changed the way I perceive working out in a gym and working out period.
I’ve never been one to work out or have the desire to work out. I wouldn’t even run if someone was chasing me! Now, I LOVE coming to the gym. I LOVE working out.
These coaches, in this environment, with the knowledge they share can help anyone reach their goals. Their specific goals are the focus. One of the things I like most is that not everyone’s work out is the same. The coaches take the time with you and find out what you are trying to attain and then they formulate a workout just for you!
There is a feeling of community at Revive. Everyone cheers for everyone there!

I was a high school volleyball player, college yogi, and avid HIIT trainer. With all of that, came many injuries. I had chronic shoulder pain and rib pain for 5+ years which really limited my workout options and enjoyment. My chiropractor at Mt. Lookout Chiropractic referred me to Luke and I have never felt better during the 8 months i’ve been working with him. He programs my workouts for me 3x a week and I look forward to them every time! My shoulder pain has gone from limiting my daily life, to minimal to no pain. Not to mention the gym is beautiful and clean. I cannot recommend them enough!!

Revive Strength is top notch in the Cincinnati area. I’ve been training with Luke for 4 years and I’m in the best shape of my life. I am constantly challenged with my workouts and I see improvements every year. The customized and personalized programming is huge for growth since you can focus on the specific aspects of your fitness that help you reach your own goals. I have been working with Steve Matre and the trainers at Revive for almost a year. I went initially at the recommendation of my chiropractor. I was having trouble with my back and hips. I ended up needing a hip replacement. Steve helped me build strength that made it easy to recover from surgery. Post surgery, he has helped to rehab and I feel like I can do anything. I have worked out my whole life. I have worked with many trainers. This is the first time I have worked a plan designed specifically for me and my needs. The gym is clean and airy and I have no fear going in these times of Covid. Run, don’t walk and work out with these guys!

I started training with Steve Matre at Revive Strength and Wellness two and a half months ago and have seen incredible changes to my overall health and fitness in just that short amount of time. I previously did CrossFit and have worked out consistently for most of my adult life, but now realize I never received the proper attention, care and instruction needed to reach my full potential when it comes to weightlifting and cardiovascular work.
