I started working with Jon at Ruffier Fitness in April 2025, after three years with Orangetheory. I was looking for a more personalized approach to balance my fitness routine, especially to build upper body strength and support my physically demanding tree care work — without giving up Orangetheory. Jon has been the perfect fit!

He takes the time to understand my goals and tailors every session to complement my existing workouts. He knows exactly when to push and when to ease back, so I’m always challenged but never overworked. I’ve noticed real improvements in strength and mobility that directly benefit my job.

An unexpected bonus is that my 11-year-old son has started training with Jon too. We work out together once a week, and it’s been amazing to see my son learning proper form early and genuinely enjoying the sessions. Jon keeps him engaged and progressing, which is no small feat with kids!

And as a fun perk — the gym is located above Missing Mountain Brewery. Great workouts and a great location.

I can’t recommend Jon and Ruffier Fitness enough for anyone looking for thoughtful, personalized training in a friendly and motivating environment.

I had a horrific accident. I broke my tibia in 2 places which, in its wake, took out a chunk of my knee. I also dislocated my elbow and broke something around the elbow. All this on my dominate right side, added to the difficulty of recovery. Since I started one on one coaching with Jon, my recovery has been amazing. I’m very grateful for his help in my recovery. If I can do this, so can you after all I’m in my 70s!

I recently began my fitness journey at Ruffier Fitness, and without a doubt it has been one of the best decisions I could’ve made for my health and wellbeing. I have been to a few different trainers throughout my life for sports and to help me train for my law enforcement career he adapts both his style and your goals based on what you can do from your build and body structure! He pushes you to your limits safely and you never want to quit you just want more because of the results you see! He finds a great balance between pushing yourself and while doing so you learn more about yourself! I met John from Ruffier Fitness at Popeyes Boxing Gym and he told me about his own gym he has. I went to try it out and loved it. Awesome gym full of a variety of equipment for strength, athleticism, and functional fitness. Jon is very knowledgeable and passionate about fitness and has an open-minded view of training giving him the ability help many different types of people with a wide range of health and fitness goals. There is even an inbody system for measuring body fat% and muscle mass so you have additional objective data of your progress!

Jon is an amazing trainer and is creating an epic community in downtown Akron! He's also very willing to adapt the workout program to accommodate injuries or joint sensitivities. His workouts are fun, but they will push you. Jon is also very flexible and will work with you if you're ever running a little behind. The building is very confusing to navigate at first, but he is very responsive and will come down and get you if you ever get lost! Parking is plentiful and you feel great after accomplishing a workout here. I highly recommend!!

The short version: Jon is just amazing and I highly recommend him!

I was so hesitant to start the journey of seeing a personal trainer. I figured it would both embarrassing and too difficult for my current skill set. I am so glad I started and I will never look back.

Jon is so personable and gives the perfect balance of education, guidance and a personalized week-by-week plan. He listens and makes adjustments as needed too. Some days my back may be bothering me and he will guide through a stretch to help and alter the planned workout for the day to support. He has continued to give an even mix of pushing me to improve and see my true capabilities all whilst insuring I am performing workouts safely with the proper form. I have been to gyms where they show you what to do and will let you complete a task with form that can be detrimental on the body. Jon will stop, demonstrate and give advice on how to correct in-moment.

If you are contemplating it, take the leap of faith. I am so much healthier than I was 4 months ago and has drastically improved both my strength and heart health.

John has been my trainer for over 6 months total and he’s the best. My goal is always to strengthen muscle and tone myself some and the workouts John puts together are perfect for that. John trains me remotely through texting and the app and he’s aware I work and have 3 kids so effective 20-30 min workouts are what I need and he delivers. John has always checked in weekly to check progress and wants open feedback about the workouts so he can continue to fine tune them for you. Recommend Ruffier Fitness either remote or on location 10/10. He’s a success story in himself if you need proof he can get you where you want to go.
