Horrible experience. I asked for someone to go over the process with my 12 year old son and they just directed him to a video⦠while I was agreeing to all the waivers.
Terrible smell, no instruction, no supervision, no courtesy. no safety precautions (βIf someone falls on your head itβs YOUR faultβ). Iβm a former collegiate and Olympic level athlete, this place is a recipe for disaster. Iβm considering filing a complaint with the city of Shaker Heights just based on the lack of cleanliness.

A great experience. They show you a video of what to do but you also can have someone show you alone . It was kinda scary being up top and trusting a rope to lower you but itβs strong and works .

Hands down the best all-around climbing gym around, and with multiple climbing gym options in Northeast Ohio, that's saying a lot!
As a long-time avid climber, I'm hyper aware of the idiosyncrasies which set a great gym apart from a good gym, particularly the staff. You don't have to love coffee to work at Starbucks, and you don't have to be a 5.13 trad climber to work at a climbing gym...but it helps! Shaker Rocks' staff is second to none!
In the Greater Cleveland area, each gym has its perks, and some may be better at certain aspects than others, and apart from Kendall cliffs (which has no redeeming qualities), the other local gyms have great aspects as well. Rock Mill is excellent for bouldering south of Cleveland and Climb Cleveland has excellent bouldering downtown, but Shaker has plenty of auto-belays, a plethora of lead options, and a set of kid friendly routes as well.
Shaker Rocks has absolutely excellent route setting and a superbly friendly staff and they've cultivated a culture of inclusivity which is engaging and welcoming to the new climber and salty seasoned veteran alike.

Shaker Rocks is absolutely amazing! The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help - whether youβre a first timer or an experienced climber. The gym is super clean, well organized, and has a great mix of routes for all skill levels. The atmosphere is fun, welcoming, and really community oriented.

Good gym, fun setting, good community. The setting is somewhat strange, all the problems were fun, but there were v6s that felt easier than some of the v3s. Kilter board is locked at 40 degrees which isnβt ideal.

We had a fantastic date night with our friends Tiffany and Brian, who visit this place often. They showed us the ropes and how to climb. We had a blast! There are so many walls, levels, and areas to explore; we tried a bit of everything. The gym area was really impressive, and they also have a small yoga studio. The people there were great, and the community atmosphere was really nice. We would definitely come back! I highly recommend it!

Very good gym! Lots of climbs to explore, they also have a separate wall upstairs with auto belays that have the boulders themselves closer together for children/beginner climbers. As well as another area for weight lifting/grip training and an angled climbing slab. They also have a nice little selection of climbing gear available for purchase too.

I visited Shaker Rocks for the first time recently as a new climber, and it was an incredible experience! The gym is clean, spacious, and well-organized, which immediately put me at ease. I tried both bouldering and the harnessed climbing on the auto belay/top rope walls, and I had a blast with both.
The bouldering section offers a great variety of routes for all skill levels, and the holds are well-maintained and thoughtfully placed. As a beginner, I appreciated that there were plenty of beginner-friendly options, but it also looked like they had more challenging problems for experienced climbers.
The harnessed climbing was another highlight. The auto belay system felt safe and easy to use, with staff on hand to help explain how everything worked. The top rope walls were tall and provided a great challenge, but not so intimidating that I felt out of my depth.
The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable, which made my first experience even better. They were happy to answer my questions and give tips on technique, which was super helpful as a newcomer.
Overall, Shaker Rocks is an amazing gym for climbers of all levels. Whether youβre trying climbing for the first time or youβre a seasoned pro, thereβs something for everyone. Iβll definitely be coming back!

Nice facilities. Staff was kind and quick to get us checked in and climbing. Community grading was nice but felt soft. Interesting setting and variety. Props to the setters. Holds were newer and diverse. Routes well marked and easy to define. Didn't care for the wrap on the bollard, made it harder to feel the climber, but nothing wrong with it, just personal taste from home gym. Will definitely visit next time in town.

As a climbing gym, it's fine. You can climb, get some gear, and work out. But the issues are in the details:
1. Lots of little kids with minimal supervision. It becomes a hassle to deal with and can get loud with groups.
2. Bouldering problems are all too comp like
3. Didn't interact much with staff but they seem alright. Nothing exceptional though.
4. Kilter board doesn't have many great routes due to it being a half sized one (incline being stuck at 20 degrees doesn't help either)
Not saying it's terrible, but it's not special.

Friendly staff! Welcoming to new climbers and βold headsβ alike. We were there on a busy Friday night and still tons of walls open and didnβt need to wait. Autobelays are nice option interspersed between top rope belay routes, and several lead routes as well. Bouldering section is great too with several options from v0-v4 with lots of volumes and features to make it interesting.

This was my first time going there the staff and instructors were very helpful, patient and professional they make sure we understood what we needed to do to keep safe even though it was very difficult I still had fun trying the staff made me very comfortable and they encouraged me to keep trying it is a good place for your family and before you go work on your upper body strength because you're going to need it to pull yourself up I will recommend this place to anyone who loves to work out this activity will have your adrenaline flowing I also enjoyed eating lunch with my friends at the outdoor picnic area which we were allowed to bring our own food I was going to buy some of their attire or t-shirts but it was a bit pricey and some of the colors of the clothing was not that attractive maybe some vibrant colors and designs especially for the kids

Pleasant facility that was super nice to my toddlers- I will always give stars for that! I went for the bouldering which was set for the average white male climber (read: tall, taller than your average person of color). As a 5'1" climber, there just weren't that many options. Otherwise, I can see that the setting was creative (for your 5'8"+ climber).

I recently had a lot of family and friends visit from out of state and took them all to Shaker Rocks. The staff was very accommadating to our larger party. Decent, not my favorite but I've been to a lot of gyms so this could skew my experience. Staff was very nice but it just felt very sterile. I've said this about a lot of gyms with a younger more modern feel but that's just becoming the norm. I feel like a climbing gym has to be homey, welcoming and inviting. Otherwise, setting was good, amenities are good, pretty cool gym.

Revising my review to talk about another amazing staff member- Katie!! I was VERY nervous about taking my lead test. I tested twice with Katie and she was such an incredible support, providing kind, honest, and helpful feedback while emphasizing safety. I am incredibly grateful for her encouragement and expertise. She is a phenomenal human, climber, and staff member. An extra thank you and shoutout to Ewa for being the most amazing coach and helping me get to where I am today as a climber. I love the supportive outlet for women and fem climbers Shaker Rocks has. It makes me feel comfortable to climb as I am and connect with fellow climbers. Thank you for providing this amazing space :)

Highly recommend to any introvert in need of exercise and/or an outlet. Super fun, staff are friendly, the daily polls at the front desk are funny, massive candy bars and cool stickers and merch (hoodies, beanies, sweaters, T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, etc.), great climbing routes, bouldering area is fun and good for when you want to climb but you've already climbed a lot on the big areas so your arms are like noodles or you're just tired, or none of those reasons. I've added a review for this place but, here I am again asked to do another! I've only been once and I don't think it's a place that I will join. It's costly for one and not diverse. However, there is an organization working with SHAKER ROCKS to involve more people of color. There aren't enough walls where you won't need a buddy to help you climb! So if it's super crowded and you're alone, you may be waiting forever to climb. It definitely smells like a gym.π€’ Could have been cleaner. The weight area was not. It's super small but a nice little add on to the gym. The staff are great as I could tell they enjoy what they do. I went for an event (BBQ) appreciation for members. I was of course invited by one. It was really nice!!! Music, food, fun games, band and custard. My daughter enjoyed herself and she did climb a little. Before the event there were not that many people, so she was able to get a feel of the place, it was her second time coming. Overall, it's a nice spot. A few adjustments would make it a great gym.

Great stay-cation spot! I took my teenage son and daughter on a Friday in early afternoon. It was busier than I expected but not crowded, which was perfect to get in lots of climb time and be able to watch other climbers. We had only tried rock-climbing once before many years ago. That being the case, I wanted a guide to show us the basics. I highly recommend calling a few days before and scheduling an off-schedule Taste of Climbing class if possible. It was fantastic to have someone show us how to use the equipment and belay for us. Our instructor was very helpful and knowledgeable, helping us strategize and encouraging our progress. After an hour with the instructor, we stayed for another hour and climbed on our own. At that point, we were exhausted-but the good kind where you feel like you accomplished something!

Nice place. However people who climb there are very rude and cringy. When I tried to top rope some route, where there wasn't anyone, one creepy man (~70 y.o.) came over to me very closely, stared at me for like 30 seconds, then said that he was going to climb this route and this is why he tied the rope, and I have to get out of his way. Really? I don't mind. I just can't read the minds of other people. If he gives this attitude to anyone he definitely has a psycho problem. Staff please pay attention to people with such attitude toward customers. This is very upsetting.

Go there! If you haven't tried Rockwell climbing you need to do it. You don't have to be in perfect shape. Of course it's challenging and a good whole body workout. But you can be overweight or out of shape and still do it. Take the kids, too! Plus, there's an intrinsic sense of accomplishment and self-confidence once you get to the top. Especially if you've been afraid of heights. Clean and inviting atmosphere with friendly folks who are eager to help if you need it.

Can't write enough positive things about this gym. We're lucky to have a place like this near Cleveland, and I hope they continue to be successful. From first timers through experts, they always make an effort to make sure everyone is enjoying their climbing experience. The front desk staff is always really enthusiastic and helpful, the walls and bouldering areas have a wide variety of paths for all levels, and they are always changing.
I took my 4 year old nephew and my 7 and 10 year old kids there for a small birthday outing. There was something for each of them and they all had a blast. My wife and I often come here for an afternoon date. It's a fun and athletic experience and something that gets you out of your daily comfort zone.
Even if you've never tried it, do yourself a favor and head out here. You'll be feeling at home in no time.

We really love going to Shaker Rocks! Had the kids try it out and they loved it too. There are shorter and easier walls for kids upstairs. Plenty of auto belays if you are just starting out. The staff is great and helpful!

I will preface this with the fact that I am a visitor from Las Vegas and I climb frequently at multiple gyms in Vegas with my partner so I know what a good experience looks like. This place is not worth it for the day pass. The staff is extremely rude to the point that they move your stuff and wonβt even speak to you when you ask them questions. They lazily point you to a corner to watch a video and then when you come back to be instructed to find shoes and a harness they ignore you until you bother them again and then they get rude and snippy with you and hand you a harness. Then they donβt even teach you how to use the harness (I had two new climbers in my group) or give you pointers on where stuff is in the gym. I had my chalk ball in a bag that they moved off the mat and said that it wasnβt allowed on the mat. I was never told this and thereβs only one sign that said it that was covered up. I had apologized to this employee and they were completely rude and grabbed my bag, moved it and rolled his eyes and raised his voice and said βthere are signsβ and stomped off. Additionally I was upstairs using the auto-belay and someone elseβs kid didnβt reattach the auto-belay so a worker came up and had to climb for it and they accused my group of doing it. We said we didnβt and the guy rolled his eyes at us and stomped off. I even wanted to buy merchandise (a shirt and some snacks for the other members in my group) but the staff was so completely rude and inattentive that I just didnβt even bother asking them again for anything. Donβt even get my started about asking them to care enough to check us out. It was like pulling teeth to check in and check out of this place. Might as well been people off the street with no manners at all running this place!!! Would recommend any other gym! The price is horrible for just a day pass and rentals especially for just an okay gym. The routes are fine but everything else about the elitist and unwelcoming and astronomically rude staff definitely not worth it!!!!

First time at this gym and the experience was pretty terrible. Iβm a fairly new climber visiting from Vegas and thought iβd check this place out. Upon walking in I already felt like the vibes were off. As other reviewers said, this place felt very commercial. Donβt get me wrong the place was very clean but something just immediately felt off. During the check in process the staff member helping us out seemed annoyed by us and kept questioning us over and over. He just kept assuming that we were minors and that we have never been climbing before. He also just seemed annoyed that weβre were taking us his time in general. I just brushed it off at first and went on with my session. The gym was very crowded and there was very limited parking. Like super limited. Half of the parking in the lot was reserved for apartment residents which I thought was bizarre. Once we started climbing I was having a good time. The routes were pretty well set and there was good variety and the routes were very easy to follow as opposed to tape marked routes that have been at other gyms. There were lots of top rope/lead routes but not a whole bunch of bouldering options. Aside from the gym itself which was pretty great. The customers and staff were not. Now obviously this is a review for the business but I just felt so incredibly judged by the other climbers it was so off putting. Definitely an elitist atmosphere and super super unwelcoming. As someone visiting from vegas, this felt very weird. There are amazing climbers and pros that are members at my home gym and they are so kind and helpful but the climbers here were not. All I got were dirty looks and rude comments. But what was even worse was the staff. A staff member came up to us and moved our chalk bag and told us it couldnβt be on the mat. I totally understand itβs the rules but the only issue is I didnβt see one sign in the gym that said no chalk on mats. I saw a few signs that said no loose chalk and we had a chalk ball in a bag. Plus everyone else clearly had loose chalk. When we told this staff member that we didnβt know he got snippy and said there were signs everywhere about it. If this was such an important rule they would have more than a few small signs and I would expect them to verbally tell us too but whatever. Idk iβve just never been to a gym that doesnβt allow chalk on the mats. Weβre climbing what do you expect? I get that it can make the mats look dirty or whatever but it just adds to the elitist complex. At another point we were upstairs using the auto-belays and another climber had let go of the line before clipping it in. When the staff members came upstairs to get it back down, they were snippy with us and telling us we shouldnβt unhook it before hooking into our harness but It was not even us who touched it? When we told them it was another visitor who did it they just said okay but be more careful? So weird. This place is also extremely overpriced. Everything about this place completely ruined the session for me. Everyone there needs a reality check and needs to chill out. Climbing is something I do to clear my head and I do it for fun/fitness. The whole time I was here I was on edge. I felt like one wrong move and I would get scolded by the unfriendly staff. This place needs an intervention.

Very helpful staff and amazing facilities. There's far more than you could ever do in a day and a huge amount of different types of walls (top rope, bouldering, cave). It's always bright, clean, and temperature controlled. My only complaints are that it can often be very busy making it hard to get in, and the walls have been very hard as of late. Those issues have been settling out over the last week so no major complaints overall!

Shaker Rocks facilitated a climbing session for our group of 31 people. Everything from the initial communication to the climbing day went extremely well. The staff are all very helpful, organized, and friendly. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend anyone to check out this gym for groups or personal climbing. The facility is also top notch.

Great climbing gym overall. The route setters are really good and set a neat variety of routes that do a good job of making you think. Not many autobelays so if you plan on top rope climbing bring a friend. Staff are chill and nice

I had fun while I was there and would probably recommend it to a friend or family member who is very active, adventurous, and likes to try new things.
