This gym has been amazing for me, a mother and wife with young kids at home. Luke, Chris and team are so friendly and effective at making you stronger. I can now pull over 200 pounds off the ground. It has made the rest of my life easy! I can manhandle the vacuum, open jars without my husband’s help and move furniture like a boss. I used to struggle picking the baby up out of the crib with achy back and knees. Not anymore! Now I have to make sure I don’t launch him into the ceiling. If you want to cut down cleaning time, carry multiple kids at once and thicken up that dump truck for your man 😉 get your skinny butt in here!!!

Highly recommend this Gym to anyone looking for an effective way to increase their strength. In 5 months, I could improve my deadlift capacity from 100lbs to 250lbs. This gym is incredible, and there is nothing else that comes close. If you’re looking to get stronger, no matter what stage of life or experience level you are, this is the place to be. The coaches are the best in the world, not only in technical expertise but also in communication and customer service. They really care about you as a person, you are not just a number. Additionally, you will become part of a supportive community of likeminded individuals as you progress in your journey of strength together. I cannot stress enough how much value this gym will add to your life and wellbeing, take advantage of the free session and experience it for yourself!

Starting Strength Cincinnati has been an invaluable investment for my health and well-being. There's a lot of conversation today regarding women's health and the benefits of "lifting heavy" at all ages but where to start? Start here! This is not your typical gym. Starting Strength is a specific and proven program of training and the coaches and community are welcoming and supportive. On my first day I was a little nervous and intimidated because I'm in my late 60's and I was concerned that the coaches might expect me to perform the same as a 20 year-old. I quickly found out that would not be the case. The coaches here are experts with certifications and are skilled at coaching all ages and abilities. Everyone was so patient with me and I learned so much. (A special shout-out to Camisha! TY!) I enjoy lifting and I can't imagine that I could have progressed in the way I have without Starting Strength. Thanks, Luke!

Great place to get stronger! On my 3rd month. I intended to only go for a month or two in order to benefit from form corrections since I lift at home and by myself. They helped me with several form corrections and now I'm setting PRs on all my lifts. The form corrections also helped with several injuries that were hampering me. Still going because the programming is very beneficial and the atmosphere and coaches (especially Chris R and team) are amazing to work with. Can't recommend enough!

I joined Starting Strength with two goals: build strength and build confidence in my ability to use free weights for compound exercises. I've never worked with free weights or with a trainer in the past, and I had concerns about my ability to be successful in this program with "crunchy" knees and significant scheduling challenges.
This program exceeded all of my expectations. From the absolutely amazing coaches, the personalized approach, the ability to work around my travel schedule with "programming to go", and the adaptation to injuries (from OUTSIDE the gym), the team at Starting Strength started me on my journey, helped me work through challenges, and celebrated with me as my strength grew (and continues to grow!).
The biggest surprise to me was the gym community. You'll read about it in so many reviews for the Cincinnati location, and it cannot be overstated. From my very first session, I felt welcomed. Anything from someone saying hello as you walk through the door to the cheering that breaks out when people hit a personal record, or just overcoming a tough day is such an unexpected and incredibly motivating factor for me. It was not something I was looking for in a gym, but it's something I am so thankful to have found.
I'm so grateful for Camisha, Luke, Tony and Chris (and the other coaches that I didn't work with personally) for creating such a wonderful, supportive environment. If you're thinking about doing something for yourself, or even just thinking about thinking about doing something for yourself, book the introductory session.

I Cannot recommend Starting Strength enough! I am a 61 year old who never played sports in my life and hated gym class when I was in school. I randomly watched a YouTube video (The Honest Channel) about an older couple, in their eighties who live in Scotland, using weights to rebuild strength. They were remote training with Chris Reis at Starting Strength Cincinnati! I began 2 months ago and convinced my 66 year old sister to join me. I absolutely love it and I love the owner, the coaches and my fellow lifters. Bad aging things were starting to take me down but now I have the ability to fight back. I'm excited about the future and where strength training will take me.

I’ve been a member of Starting Strength Cincinnati for 10 months now, but I knew within the first 10 minutes it was exactly where I needed to be. What makes this place stand out is its small-group environment where every session feels personal, purposeful, and genuinely motivating.
Before coming to SS, I struggled with mental blocks around strength training—doubts about what I could do, fear of failure, and just not trusting the process. Thanks to the Starting Strength method, the incredible coaching, and the amazing members, I’ve finally broken through some of those barriers and no longer see limitations in what I can achieve.
The coaches and ownership are truly next-level. Not only are they highly trained and deeply knowledgeable, they’re also amazing humans who care. They listen, they adjust, and they’re genuinely invested in helping you get 1% better every single time you walk through the door. I’m especially grateful for the other members - people who show up, work hard, and cheer you on even when you’re struggling to make that last rep. There’s no ego, no judgment—just an uplifting space where everyone wants to see each other win, even (and especially) on the hard days.
What I’ve gained here goes far beyond just the barbell and I can’t recommend (and thank) Starting Strength enough!

At Starting Strength Cincinnati, you will find a supportive atmosphere of people from all backgrounds, ages and strength/fitness levels. This gym is not your standard gym - here you have coaches with you on every set to ensure form is right and leading you to your goals. No fancy machines that you don’t quite know how to use - just simple bars and weights. I have been a member at Starting Strength for almost a year, and coming here has made me stronger and made every day tasks like carrying groceries or trash cans easier. Whatever your strength goal, the coaches at Starting Strength will help you reach it. What I love most about this gym is the community of support (especially the group with me at 5:30 am) and the coaches who genuinely care for your success. I promise your experience will be unlike any other gym you have been to.

I’m strength training for the first time in my life, and it’s now been 2 months. I couldn’t recommend this gym more highly. The coaches are the best, and they teach technique extraordinarily well, especially for someone who is new to the whole concept. It’s custom tailored to your ability and Chris adjusts the weight and reps and sets in an expert manner. The gym has a very positive and supportive atmosphere. And they are also very accommodating when you have a schedule issue arise.
Chris is my main coach, but I have also had Camisha and Luke help me and they are amazing. I can’t believe how much easier everything I do in life is now that I’m getting stronger. Thank you, all!!

I have struggled with an L4/L5 injury since 2015, with occasional bouts of moderate sciatica. In December of 2024, I aggravated that injury, causing a perfect storm of intense back pain and debilitating sciatica. By mid March 2025, I was walking with a cane, and barely able to stand for longer than about 20-30 seconds. I had tried chiropractic and physical therapy and neither made any real difference in my pain. I revisited the Starting Strength website, having been a previous trainee, and found a few articles about people in my similar condition. I decided to give it a go. After 18 sessions, I am walking mostly pain free, and can stand for 30 minutes. It’s hard, and a lot of work, but it has given me life back. Come talk to them. Do the intro. It can help you.

This gym is spacious, light, and bright. The coaches and lifters are all super friendly and supportive, and I got some new, helpful cues. I saw lifters aged 20-something to 60+ all being expertly coached with personalized programming. I dropped in while visiting from out of town, and I will be teasing my local gym to step up their game! Added bonus: they don't blast the music.

Being a female approaching 50 years old, with not a ton of familiarity knowing my way around the gym was very intimidating for me as I started a health journey last fall. I found Starting Strength, and immediately knew it was the perfect fit. The smaller size of each session, individualized coaching, encouraging environment, and absolutely zero intimidation factor makes me excited to go back each and every session. This place is the real deal, and the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Five stars are well deserved.

I began my fitness journey at Starting Strength - Cincinnati one month ago and I am filled with immense gratitude for discovering this remarkable gym.

The trainers, Chris and Lauren, are attentive, supportive and genuinely dedicated to my well-being. I have complete confidence in their expertise and care for my fitness goals.
To get to Starting Strength, I wake up at 4:00 AM three days a week and I never dread these early mornings. It’s as if I’ve found my people, my tribe.
I highly recommend anyone considering joining Starting Strength to take advantage of their free 30-minute trial session. You will not regret it. During my trial session, the trainers went above and beyond the 30-minute limit, answering every one of my questions with confidence and enthusiasm.
Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly give Starting Strength - Cincinnati a resounding 5 stars!

Starting Strength Cincinnati has become like a second home to me. I’ve been part of this incredible community for about a year and a half, and it has become a consistent source of inspiration in my life. When you walk in on your first day, you come for the training—but you quickly notice the eclectic group of people who also call this place home.
You train side by side with individuals from all walks of life, each in different chapters of their journey. What unites everyone is a shared camaraderie in doing hard things together. It doesn’t matter how much weight is on your bar or your neighbor’s bar—you’re both putting in the same effort, working hard individually, but also together.
Over time, you build meaningful relationships. You care about the journeys of those around you, celebrate their PRs or hard-fought reps, and support each other on days when the gravity feels like it’s turned up a bit too high. Starting Strength Cincinnati fosters a unique environment where you come for the training, but you stay for the relationships you build along the way.
A huge thank you to Luke, Chris, Camisha, Tony, Niki, and everyone in the Starting Strength Cincinnati community—especially the 7 AM Mon-Wed-Fri crew—for making this place so special.

After 2020/2021 and a move, my body didn't feel like my body anymore. My muscles were weak, and I was starting to feel - dare I say it? Old.
I tried going back to the workouts from "the before time", and promptly pulled a little something in my lower back doing deadlifts the way some gym trainer from long ago said to do them. That send me into YouTube land where I discovered Starting Strength. AND...there's one right here in Cincinnati 🙌
BEST decision ever!!! The team is top notch. You are welcome and valued here. They watch your form and make sure you are doing things correctly.
Since April 2024, my deadlift alone has gone from 95lb to 185lb!!! WHAT?! Yep. And every time I go I get stronger. There's a spring in my step again. My posture has improved. Everything has gotten easier. I am strong! If you want to be active all your days, start now. Do it. See you there. 💪

We all know, or should know, that maintaining our health must involve strenuous physical training. It is the only way to grow muscle and stay mobile as we age. And I bet the thing that stopped you from completing or maintaining was you got hurt maybe because you're aggressive, or maybe you got bored because you can't program, or you just were not seeing results.
This is the answer. Starting Strength is not just a gym. It is a coached training opportunity where the coach engages with you on every rep. You will know immediately after every rep, every set, and every workout what you need to improve. This gym experience will train you to accomplish your lifting goals correctly. It doesn't matter your age, your goal, or your experience. This place will take you to the next level in strength.
The next thing you'll notice after training for a short time is that Starting Strength is a very people based gym. It is personal. The coaches and members become your cheerleaders and supporters . They will want you to succeed. And you will succeed.
Join us.

As a 40 year old who is six months into training at Starting Strength Cincinnati, I can truly say I'm stronger than I ever have been in my life. I hated working out. I never did it, not a single exercise except as needed while I lived my life for 10 years. I hit a wall - and I realized if I didn't do something, I wouldn't be able to lift my grandkids. So, I signed-up and committed.
All I had to do was show up and do what my Starting Strength Coach, Chris, told me to do. Honestly, this process has changed my life. My back was a mess, I couldn't lift things, I had no energy. But now, I'm living a different life: I'm hitting a golf ball 25 yards farther than I ever had, I've got more energy, my clothes fit better, and my back is strong enough to support me throughout my day without giving out on me. What's more is the process of working out with this community has been an absolute pleasure. Everyone is committed to improving their strength. The people are encouraging, fun, and especially kind. Luke, Chris and the rest of the team have built an amazing community of people who are changing their lives for the better. Couldn't recommend the training, the process, or the people more.

I started to run again 18 months after having a baby only to find myself with crippling hip pain. A 1 hour car ride would have me hobbling for a week. Apparently holding a baby cocked on one hip for 2 years will completely misalign your body in strength and function. I tried yoga, plates, physical therapy and chiropractic. They would "work" for a little bit, but then I'd try to run or take a long drive and it would all be undone. Back to not being able to take my toddler on walks, or run and chase her without pain. I started lifting with Starting Strength in September. Driving 50 min one way while my kid was at preachool. By January I took a 4 hour car ride and had no pain. In March we drove to Colorado- a 20 hour drive. Zero pain. In April, I began to run again. No pain. I'm a stronger woman at 40 than I was at 35. Im completely healed. The coaches are wonderful and encouraging. The gym is very "female friendly" and I always felt comfortable. You will not regret the investment of your time or money to gain the health- both physical and mental. You can do hard things!

I had kyphoplasty (back surgery where they inject cement into a compressed vertebrae) back in December. After the procedure, there was no real follow up or physical therapy offered. I found Starting Strength in February meeting the owner, Luke, then scheduling a consultation with, Chris, one of the trainers. They were both absolutely amazing and I finally had someone listen to what I was dealing with. I agreed to their free first session, and felt a difference in my lower back after just that one 2 hour training session. I have already signed up for a month of further sessions. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about them from other clients and I cannot wait to see what I’m capable of doing after a few months of working with them. 100% recommendation for anyone looking for strength or therapy training you can’t find anywhere else!

Although I have always been somewhat athletic, when I first started the program I had no idea what to what to expect as I had never done weight lifting/ strength training prior. I basically started from ZERO with skills and knowledge. Tony and Camisha were so patient and consistent- coaching me through every step and individualizing my personal program/ goals. The confidence and strength I have gained from my experience at SS has poured over into many aspects of my life and I am so grateful!
If you are looking for a community of people who are truly passionate about helping others grow in strength, who encourage a positive mindset and teach effective consistent fitness habits- Starting Strength is the place.

I joined the gym in April hoping to improve my techniques and get help with programming. They didn’t disappoint! My techniques are so much better and I am lifting more weights than I thought I could. The coaches are knowledgeable and genuinely interested in helping you to become strong. The fellow gym members are pleasant to train with and happily cheer each other for their success. If you want to get strong and are willing to do the hard work to achieve it, give them a try and you won’t regret it. Don’t be intimidated if you never lifted a barbell. They provide custom programming suitable for your abilities and the programs are well thought out!

Dropped in for an intro session and some training sessions while in town for work. Trained with both Tony and Camisha, they provided excellent coaching. I've been training on my own for years but never with formal instruction. I find it immensely valuable to get this kind of feedback, even with experience. Would love to have this kind of experience somewhere closer to home.

Great concept and knowledgeable staff...basic core strength training...no judgement, just smart training for all ages...in particular, older crowd looking to stay fit and strong...set schedules or work out times makes it a little difficult for me & my crazy schedule but the few times I've been in have been great!

I started looking for a Starting Strength gym after reading The Barbell Prescription by Dr Jon Sullivan. Cincinnati is lucky enough to have one and I joined 9 months ago. What’s special about SS are the coaches and the exposure to those coaches is what can produce life-changing results. The constant attention, skilled programming and amazing camaraderie during sessions are well worth the price. I'm now probably stronger and more motivated than I've ever been thanks to Luke, Camisha, Chris, Tony and the whole crew at SS Cincinnati.

I'm now a little more than a month into the program and absolutely love the gym, the coaches, and the program.
First, unlike a normal gym, you have a regular assigned training time. You can obviously adjust if you have something come up, but in general, you have a specific time you're expected. And for me, that has kept me from procrastinating or skipping a session ("I'm busy right now, I'll go later" and later never happens). It's a defined time, it's blocked out on my calendar and I've yet to miss a session, even when I'm not feeling fully up for it, I just let the coach know and my workout gets adjusted. Also, since you're training with the same set of people on a regular basis, it really helps in forming community. Members support other members as they are doing hard things and it makes accomplishing those hard things all that much more rewarding when folks are acknowledging the struggle.
Second, a coach is there watching as you do every one of your "work weight" exercises (the coaches rotate to the next person as you're recovering between sets). The coaches are instructing and critiquing and even adjusting your form with the idea of keeping you safe and keeping the exercise effective. The coaches also adjust your training plan based on how you are performing and whether your body is recovering (e.g. you might get a light day added to give you more time to recover from your heavy load). For me, it's providing the benefits of individual personal training with a much more cost efficient business model.
Finally (at least for this review), I love the training program itself. I love that I'm working on just a handful of mostly full body exercises that I'm progressively getting stronger doing. I love that I can track that progress on any of the exercises. Compare this to something like crossfit where they have you doing like 2 dozen different exercises (not an exaggeration) in a seemingly random workout pattern. I don't even know how someone would know what the right weight to use on an exercise that they might only see a couple times a month. The Starting Strength approach just seemed to make the most sense to me when I started and I'm happy to say that after a month, I've not been disappointed.

Becoming a client at SS Cincinnati has definitely been one of the best choices I've made in a while. Can't emphasize enough how great this place is. Been lifting for about five years now and just began to think about trying to actually quantify my strength increases. Unfortunately, this was a little difficult using the program I was on.
Bought the Starting Strength book and began working through the program on my own. I'd work through the illustrations in the book and binge YouTube videos on the movements but without a certified coach watching your movements it's very difficult to capture and critique your own form.
From the first time I stepped into the Starting Strength Cincinnati Gym, I felt welcomed and encouraged. The coaches are fantastic and have already helped me feel more comfortable and confident in my lifts. I really like the individual customization of the program, as age and experience definitely need to be taken into account with the programming. Already love this place and highly recommend it!

Wow, what a difference having a coach help you correct form every set has made for me. I've had surgery in both knees and have been paranoid about squatting. After being coached for 3 sessions so far my form has improved immensely in squat - and also my other lifts. However the improvement in my squat has been the most significant for me. Before my knee would make grinding and popping sounds nearly every rep. Now when I'm doing the form properly I don't get any of the snap crackle and pop. I had watched alot of videos and read about proper form but couldn't figure it out on my own. I need a coach. I'm driving almost an hour to get this gym but the help I'm getting is worth it.

Since joining Starting Strength, I can definitely attest to the message that anyone can lift, and am now lifting more than I ever have.

There's no Starting Strength (yet) where I live, but I was so pleased to be able to schedule a training session with Adam during a recent visit to Cinci. I'm 65 and a long time exerciser with aerobics and free weights, but no idea where to begin with barbells aside from basics picked up on YouTube. Adam took me from zero to feeling confident that I now can use the proper form and program to build muscle and bone strength safely and successfully. I really can't thank you enough!

Starting Strength was my guiding light from the very beggining of my strength journey. I had the fortune to do things right from the start, and I got pretty strong.
After a year I got to a sticking point and I decided to reach out to SSGyms online coaching. Head Coach Adam Martin is my coach and we have been making progress non-stop! With smart programing and consistency I got my form tuned, got out of the sticking point and added a BUNCH of kilos to all my lift:
Squat: 595lbs
Press: 242.5lbs
Bench Press: 335lbs
Deadlift: 615lbs
Over all I feel great with choosing to be a part of the online family and I'm looking forwards to stay and keep numbers going up!

If you had the opportunity and means to change your life and that of your family, would you do it? Could you accept the example you were making if you didn’t? Those are the questions that weighed heaviest on me in September of 2022.
I took action in October of 2022, attended an open house and started attending the gym the following week. I’d love to say that the first day “evaluation” went great. But it only emphasized that I had lost a lot of strength and mobility at the age of 46.
I can honestly say that joining Starting Strength Cincinnati was the right choice for me. The staff genuinely care about the members and work hard to help them succeed. I’ve found myself as invested in the progress of the others in my training group as I am in my own. In the 3 months that I’ve been attending I’ve seen major changes in my strength and overall health.
I can honestly recommend people to join up if they want to make a real change in their life. It won’t be easy, but easy doesn’t work.

I participated in the squat and deadlift camp. Excellent camp! I've been training w/ the Starting Strength method for several years, but have never had hands-on coaching or a form check. Adam, Mia and the other coaches were great at explaining the form, coaching cues and reviewing programming. I certainly learned a lot and had a great time. I would highly recommend a camp for lifters who cant train w/ a SS coach all the time.

I attended the Squat & Deadlift camp on 2/25/23 and I can’t emphasize enough how excellent the coaching was and overall how wonderful of an experience I had. Coach Adam Martin coached our group on the platform and along with Coach Jarret (sic) quickly diagnosed issues with my grip, stance width (too narrow) and depth. They gave me cues of “chin up” and noted that I tend to want to shift weight toward my toes. For the deadlift stance width again (too wide), I set up too far away from the bar and for back position was given cues of ‘drop belly in between thighs’ and this helped my back not be as concave. I was also ‘ski ramping’ bar off of my legs on the descent and Coach Camisha gave me the cue to ‘see the bar down’ which naturally moves hips back allowing bar to move straight down. We also had time to do the Press which was a nice bonus. Bar position (bar under chin) and hip movement (only forward never backward) were the big difference maker here- Reach! Punch! 1! 2! Also caught some great cues from watching others get coached like ‘own the position!’
Then we got to hear about programming from Coach Mia Inman which was really a treat. She is a legend and cuts through all the BS like a hot knife through butter. Also noticed we have the same shoes which was validating for me.
In conclusion all of the coaches at SS Cincinnati were a pleasure to work with. They stuck a great balance of giving direct feedback and direction while simultaneously being completely humble. I can’t speak highly enough about how much I gained from this camp. Anyone in Cincinnati who is looking to get stronger and wants second to none coaching will greatly benefit from this gym.

To say that Starting Strength Cincinnati has changed my life would be an understatement. I wouldn't consider myself one who enjoyed working out and I had never weight lifted really ever. In November I had debilitating back pain, with tingling and numbness in my arms and legs. In fact, my first time stepping in Starting Strength i could barely walk. I had my doubts about my ability to perform strength training, but the coaches here thought that they could help me strengthen my muscles, which in turn would help support my spine. The coaches I worked with, Camisha and Tony, walked me through every step of the way to make sure I was being the most efficient to get the best results. The transformation I've experienced in only 3 short months continues to amaze me and I've definitely gained strength.
Squat: 16 lbs to 135 lbs
Bench Press: 22 lbs to 90 lbs
Press: 11 lbs to 80 lbs
Deadlift: 52 lbs to 190 lbs
Thank you Starting Strength Cincinnati for not only making me stronger, but growing my confidence as well.

I just wrapped up my intro week at Starting Strength Cincinnati today and can’t wait for my next session!
I took care of my mom a lot through several health issues of hers, including two strokes and losing her in 2019. The grieving process coupled with a global pandemic made me think a lot about her health and mine.
About a month or two ago, I noticed a flyer for Starting Strength in my apartment’s mailroom and took a mental note, remembering how much I needed (and wanted) to get back into exercising whether it be a gym, dance, or classes. I’ve tried working out at my apartment’s gym, and I looked into dance classes only to find most were Zumba based or contained a recital or competition at the end. I settled on another gym nearby and contacted them and was recommended a trainer. We set up a time on a Sunday to go over fitness goals on a call but I never heard from anyone. A few days later the trainer reached out and asked for new times we could have a call - I gave them my availability again and never heard back.
After all of this I’d stopped by the mailroom again and noticed the SS flyer was still up and this time I took it down to look over it some more. I decided to take my mail back inside and hop on the computer to do some research. I looked through Yelp, Google reviews, the SS Cincinnati site, where I came across the Open House page. I was impressed by everything I was seeing but still skeptical. I’d never lifted before but was interested in trying it out. I was worried being as short as I am that somehow that would disqualify me from being able to join. So I told myself I’d visit the Open House - that was last Saturday (10/1/22)!
I won’t spoil the Open House but trust me when I say it’s worth checking out. Shortly after registering, I received a welcome email from Lucas within the hour. The day of the Open House, I was met by Adam - who kept it not only informative but fun, intriguing, and hands on. He handed out additional information and was happy to answer any questions we had, as well as offering to complete intros for anyone considering signing up/trying out SS. I left the Open House, got back in my car and registered for my intro week in the parking lot!
Monday (10/3/22) rolls around and I went through my intro with Adam - finding what weight I’d start out with on the different lifts and the form to use for each one. I continued with my sessions on Tuesday, Thursday, and today, and have met a good portion of the other members, the apprentices, as well as Lucas the owner, and Camisha. Thursday I even found out I’m neighbors with one of the apprentices who hung the flyer up in the mailroom (shoutout Tony)!
I’m in awe of Starting Strength and the community I’ve found through the gym in the span of 7 days. Even in Open House they make a point to tell you not to be nervous and embrace that everyone has a starting point and different backgrounds. While I know it’ll take time to see progress from the lifts themselves, I can at least say I see a change in myself this week alone. I’ve bragged about SS to my family and a few friends and have something to look forward to multiple days of the week.
Apologies for the novel of a review but I hope the words speak for themselves. If I could give Starting Strength more than 5 stars I absolutely would. If you’re looking for something that isn’t your typical big name gym with community and guidance, I can’t recommend SS Cincinnati
enough.
Thank you all at Starting Strength Cincinnati for an awesome intro week!! I can’t wait to see everyone next week :)

My seventeen-year-old son has grown 4 inches in the past year, so he started going to Starting Strength this summer so that he could catch his strength & muscles up to match his new height. In just two months he’s already showing huge changes. He has quadrupled the weight he can squat and tripled the amount he can dead lift. He’s more then doubled his starting strength across the other exercises. The instructors bring a lot of experience and knowledge. They are friendly, but they know when and how to be tough and “push“ my son when he needs more motivation. He loves how the sessions have a really good student-to-instructor ratio. He also enjoys that there are people of all ages there together – at 17 he’s one of youngest in his sessions, but there are people in their 70’s working out with him too. He feels stronger and more confident. We highly recommend Starting Strength. Thank you!

Starting Strength is amazing!
I entered training last November when the store opened. My goals were to reach back where I was 3 or 4 years ago.
By following the wonderful training of coach Adam, Marie, and Camisha, in just 8 months, I have exceeded my initial goals. As a 63 year old man, I will soon be squatting 300 lbs, benching 175 lbs., and dead lifting over 300 lbs.
My body has become more trim.

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: If you are interested in learning how to SAFELY and CORRECTLY lift barbell based weights, come here and do not look back.
Starting Strength Gyms will continue to fill a much needed niche for those who do not want the globo-gym atmosphere, and/or for those who do not want to go back to crossfit boxes and their illogical programming and unsafe environments.
I dropped in to SS Cincy this morning, as an out of towner traveling through the area, pretty much by happenstance, and I wanted to get a spot check by a SS coach on my core lifts. Reached out on Wednesday, did a workout Thursday, and going back Saturday while Im still in town.
Luke and Marie were extremely customer focused during onboarding, and Marie coached me during my own workout and found the right fine tunings, queues, and also my bad habits during my squat, deadlift, and press movements. Great workout and walked away with areas to improve.

Recently went to the Open House, signed up, and had my Intro Session.
I have been following Starting Strength since late 2019, reading the Blue Book and watching countless YouTube videos. Working out in my garage gym.
Just from the Open House I knew there would be value in signing up.
During the Open House you are walked through the Deadlift and that highlighted several form issues I have. YouTube and reading are not comparable to being coached by someone who knows what they are doing.
This continued with my Intro Session, where my Squat and Press form were significantly corrected. Which I hope will be key in both increasing my strength as well as preventing injury.
The staff and members I have met have been very welcoming.
I highly recommend at least visiting the gym, it is not like any gym I had previously been too.
You are not walking into a commercial gym where you are a number and working out in isolation.
It is clean, has a "singular" purpose in making its members stronger, and it reminds me of working out when in school sports where it was more of a community endeavor to get stronger and healthier.

Forget all you know about fitness. No, really you must. I put behind me years of running, Pilates, resistance training that didn’t make me feel any better and definitely did NOT make me any stronger (but did cause me to be very ‘skinny’ for whatever the hell that is worth). I put it all in my past and joined my husband as he defied gravity with amazing weight (that I didn’t believe possible for a normal person) in proper depth squats, bench presses, overhead presses and deadlifts.
For over four years we’ve grown stronger than we ever believed possible following Rippetoe’s Starting Strength methods outlined in his book of the same title. We worked on our own and my husband went to one squat camp in Michigan. But when this SS gym opened in OH we KNEW we had to get here. As the weight has increased, variances in form are limiting our growth. I came to a camp yesterday (09 Apr 2022) and set two PRs (easily and with more reps than at home).
We’ll keep coming back until gyms closer to Cleveland open up. We will eagerly make the over 3.5 hr drive because STRENGTH MATTERS. And these coaches are priceless. What they offer the community is a true gift that will serve you in all areas of your life (and I mean all!). These are real people. Therefore people who will be real with you. Don’t get your own ideas about what you’re capable of or how to move your body. They’ve studied extensively (exhaustively). These coaches are certified to the absolute highest standard. Follow their guidance (without hesitation) and you will amaze yourself and everyone around you. Listen to no one else when it comes to your strength training. Come in with a mentality of respect for these coaches (they truly deserve it) and you will succeed beyond your wildest imagination.
I’m a mid 30s mother of two and behind marrying my husband and the birth of my kids, lifting has provided me the best moments of my life. You will be well taken care of here. They are worthy of something far more meaningful than mere money, that is your trust. Lay it all down and see great heights (actual measurable results/weight increases)!
In great strength, kindest regards, Rena.
(I try to be brief but clearly I’m quite passionate about this journey as I hope you will be too! This place, and most importantly the people within, is simply THAT special).

Coach Marie has been amazing and encourages me when I need it the most. Less than 2 months and I already feel so much better, stronger, and impressed with myself on how far I’ve come. I’m glad to be a part of Starting Strength!

Met with Adam Martin for a form check and it was a fantastic experience. Adam helped clean up some mistakes and gave great cues to help me drive home his message. This gym is amazingly clean with fantastic equipment. If you want to improve your quality of life at any age this is the place you need to check out!

So glad that there's a Starting Strength Cincinnati location now! I've been going here since opening and have no complaints at all! Coaching is top notch and the facility has great weightlifting equipment. As guy working in IT, my posture wasn't the greatest due to sitting in front of a computer all day which lead to some back pain. Training here for the past few months has made my back pain a thing of the past and I don't feel like I'm an old man in my 30s anymore. I know gyms and training facilities can be intimidating for newcomers (definitely was for me), but the coaches and other members make this such a welcoming and non-judgemental community. Looking forward to seeing my strength progression here at Starting Strength Cincinnati as well as watching this location grow!

Already stronger after only 2 months at Starting Strength Cincinnati. This is such a fun place to workout and gain strength. I can’t say enough good things about the excellent coaches - they are knowledgeable, encouraging and they guide you with every rep! The facility is clean, organized and well equipped. If you are looking for a community and not just a gym this is your new place. What are you waiting for? Schedule today!

I decided it was time to get off the couch, so I searched on google for nearby gyms. I came across Starting Strength, watched the testimonials online, and decided I'd give it a shot.
It's been just over a month now, and I couldn't be happier with that decision. I feel better, my posture has improved, and I've learned so much about lifting. Working with Adam has been a ton of fun, and I'm excited about how far I can take this.
I strongly encourage anyone who's interested in the slightest to register for an Open House and check it out.

I was waiting for a while for a Starting Strength gym to come to Cincinnati, but it was worth the wait! I've made more progress in the last 12 weeks at Starting Strength Cincinnati than I ever thought possible. I'm stronger than I've ever been in my life and I'm more confident about my potential than I've ever been. It's incredible!

Amazing Gym, extension of Mark Rippetoe, 3rd Edition Starting Strength, Iconic, Training Manual.
If Physical Improvement, is desired, as it should be….this location, would be our very first recommendation, for “aspirants”, regardless, of background, or seniority,

Amazing experience and great coaching. Worked directly with Coach Marie and she was able to rehab my back pain in just a couple of weeks, improve my technique, and strengthen my whole body. I feel better, sleep better, look better, and most importantly, I function better daily. Highly recommend coach Marie and the Starting Strength method that is taught here.
