TL;DR at bottom

I don't see any reviews of the personal training at TFIT so I thought I should warn people about it. The gym it'self is very small and likely has one of everything you need - but this is about the training.

First off they offer a free "fitness breakthrough session" which I went to. It's just a sales pitch to get training, there is nothing of value - just going through prices.

I had signed up to do tues/thurs. My first session was on a tues with a trainer ended in a sprained shoulder. As I thought back on my training I realized that in any other training session I had ever done, no one had me go to failure on so many exercises. Of the 30 sets we did, 24 involved the shoulder. Of those 24, I went to failure on somewhere between 1/3 and a half. All the while my feed back was "yeah, good job, keep going" until time was up (these were timed sets, not a set with a set number of reps).

I went to my doctor the next day due to sharp shoulder pain and muscle tightness and was told I have a sprain and that I needed to not do any weight lifting involving the shoulder (outside of a little packet of exercises I was given to do every day) for about 3 weeks. I relayed that information to the TFIT team and said I would like to delay my training for 3 weeks but the owner said I should just do legs. I didn't feel like it would be effecient to do legs on tues and thurs each week but I figured it wasn't worth arguing over and I wanted to work out what I could anyway so I figured fine.

We did leg day and that was fine. Come around to the next week on tuesday and the trainer's first lift he asked me to do was bicep curls - which of course involve the shoulder. I mentioned the shoulder issue again and he said "well we need to do arms so. . ." I stupidly went over and did the first set and I felt my shoulder instantly start to tighten back up. And on the second set it started to hurt. So I stopped and just left.

This place doesn't seem to care about your safety, doctors orders, or anything like that. I've went to a few good gyms that I don't live near anymore unfortunately (River City Barbell, Cincinnati Sports Club) where people were knowledgeable and I took that for granted.

TL; DR - working with a trainer got hurt on first session most likely from going to failure on a large portion of sets. Got dr order to not use hurt shoulder for lifting for 3 weeks. Trainer didn't care still wanted me to use it. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else like I am. Also this place is really expensive and the lowest amount of sessions you can have is 2/week for 6 weeks.

In response to the owner's response:
"We never work through injury but we do work the muscle."
When I told my trainer that I am not supposed to use the muscle for a few weeks last Thursday due to the injury, as told my my doctor, I think that should be enough communication to not use the muscle for a few weeks. It sounds like the implication is being a trainer for 10 years makes her more qualified on how to handle an injury than a doctor.

And again, when I brought it up on Tuesday I got "well we need to train arms so. . " I feel my communication was more than sufficient, it was the decisions based off of the communications that I feel were poor.

All in all, it's clean, has decent equipment, and there are no contracts.
