After reading reviews, we were a bit concerned with what to expect. But we've always had good experiences at doubletree, so we gave it a shot.
The hotel is old, so it shows reasonable signs of wear. Others complained about cleanliness, overall we didn't see a problem here. The room was as clean as we'd expect. If you look too hard, you'll find fingerprints on surfaces and garbage under bed and behind furniture. But that happens at all hotels. We were fine in the room.
Showers were hot. Bed was comfy. Rooms are nice and big.
Ice machines are on even numbered floors.
This hotel is on the 7th floor. But there's no way to know this until you get there. You can access it from the street level or parking garage, after you navigate the maze of elevators; some of which only go part way after a certain time. Nobody tells you this either. One elevator was out of order, so we witnessed several purple going back and forth using the wrong elevators, which made us feel like we weren't alone.
Breakfast. We booked the package that included breakfast. Don't let the fact that there's a breakfast menu fool you. You can't order this. It's a continental style breakfast with some hot, soggy options.
The dining room was freezing. The staff all wrote winter coats. Luckily there was hot coffee. I went into the back kitchen to make it myself, since there wasn't any in the dining room. At least it was fresh.
They also didn't clean the tables after each guest left, just the spot where that guest sat. All glassware and silverware that looked untouched were left. I put a note in one of the silverware rooms at our table, lucky winner finds it!
And even though we had the breakfast package, we recieved a bill for the breakfast. The front desk had said that we wouldn't, the hosts at the "restaurant" told us to take it to the front desk to pay. $22.98 per person.
I think I'm just disappointed in the lack of communication. It feels like guests are told something different from each step from reservation to speaking with staff to parking, all of it.
And, we never got a cookie.
So, if you just need a room, this is good. Everything else...well you'll probably figure it out. It's an adventure!

Beautiful chandeliers and views towards the river, friendly service and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in the restaurant or as room service to the DoubleTree. Convenient for guests of the hotel to stop in for food and drinks.

It is very convenient and the people are nice but it's all a little outdated. I would prefer it move more towards classic than modern in the restaurant. The athletic club, which has a lot going for it, needs some improvements.

Staff is friendly and polite to a fault - the food was terrific at our event and the staff stayed late to make sure everyone had everything they needed. As for the athletics, they make you feel like you're at a $115/month club for only $50. The club and hotel are willing to work with you to schedule events involving even the fitness facility and go the extra mile to make sure you and your guests are taken care of. Also the only place in town for international court squash - a huge bonus!

We were very disappointed with our meal. They are affiliated with ClubCorp, and we always eat at Clubcorb places, and it has been our worst experience to date. We ordered the chicken wings; they do not cook it in the sauce, only give you fried wings with buffalo or thai chili sauce on the side. Crab cakes did not taste like they had crab in it. The bangbang shrimp salad was only OK; the dressing was way too tangy, and it was made with cheddar cheese which did not go with the salad at all, the shrimp was good though. My husband thought the Caesar salad was good but it was pretty generic. My chicken wrap was meh, tasted like just chicken, bbq sauce, cheese, and arugula, nothing special. My husband's salmon burger had plastic in it, that he had to fish out. The mile-high chocolate cake was excellent actually. The trio sorbet, only had one type of lemon sorbet.
