I truly enjoy this gym and the welcoming community you become a part of when you sign up for fitness training here. Michelle, the owner, is amazing—knowledgeable, attentive, and kind. All the trainers here are highly professional and create a fun, thoughtful, and supportive environment during group sessions. My only regret is not finding this training center sooner!

I love coming to exercise here. The fitness coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and give you options if there’s an exercise that’s not right for you. It’s the best small group private training you can find anywhere in Columbus. I’ve been coming for 7 years, and I am NOT what you’d call an exercise fiend! It’s done a world of good for me.

I’ve been here over 7 years and it’s the best workout experience I’ve ever had. I’ve built strength, confidence and learned so much about overall health and wellness from the coaches. I’ve never felt intimidated and I know the coaches won’t ask me to do something they don’t think I can do. I love the community I’m part of at The Humam Form.

I've been a member at The Human Form for a few years—far longer than I've sustained membership or involvement with any other fitness format or organization. I've never been physically stronger in my life, and I attribute that to consistent, mindful training with the coaches at THF. I come for the functional fitness—the ability to keep up with my 8-year-old daughter and running my household as a solo parent—and I stay for the community, the consistent breaking of personal barriers, and the indisputable evidence that my body is a better machine for the time I spent at THF. I've worked out at THF while rehabbing multiple athletic and other injuries, and the coaches have always been mindful to create safe adjustments for my body that allow me to heal and rebuild. I can't say enough good things about the people, the methods, and the community at The Human Form. It's just a special place.

Best gym and community out there! I’ve been coming to Human Form for almost 20 years. I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Stephen and Michelle are two of the best people you will ever meet. All of the coaches (Lauren, Jeff, Pat, Jade) are top notch and extremely knowledgeable. They give you the tools to feel comfortable and confident in the gym regardless of your experience level. You won’t find anyone that does it better.

Before starting at The Human Form, I usually thought of myself as fairly fragile and petite. After a year here, I’m grateful to feel much stronger and balanced! The coaches are so friendly and skilled. I also love how easy it is to schedule classes via the app. Hoping to continue here for many years.

Best fitness center and trainers in Columbus!!!! I have been coming to The Human Form since February and I am so beyond happy with my experience. Let me first start off by saying that before coming here I HATED exercise and working out. I use to feel worse when I left a workout, and I never felt confident in the movements I was doing. I’ve tried all different types of classes and forms of exercise over the years, and always gave up on it after a few days. I initially came to The Human Form to get in shape for my wedding, thinking I’d suffer through another dreaded workout plan for a couple months, get married, and be done… however my mind was completely changed from day 1 training with Jade. We started with a consultation where we sat down for over an hour and hashed through details of my health, my previous experience in fitness, and my goals. I felt as though she really listened to me and understood my experiences. From there she built a specific workout plan tailored to exactly where my body was currently at and what it needed from a foundational level. During workouts she checks in frequently (which as a typically shy, non outspoken person I really appreciate this) so I am never doing something before I am ready for it. I am greeted at every session with a smile and pleasant fun energy from Jade. She is professional and extremely knowledgeable. She takes her time explaining things to me and is always super encouraging. Working with Jade has given me so much confidence in working out that I would’ve never had otherwise without her expertise. And the best part of this all… is I feel BETTER after leaving the gym. Yes, for the first time ever in my life. Their process was magic for me. And for the first time, I look forward to coming to the gym!! For the first time, I have visible muscle and strength and stability in brand new areas!! I cannot imagine ever going anywhere else. Although I work with Jade, I frequently encounter the other staff members, who are equally as personable and knowledgeable; Lauren, Michelle, the male trainers (whom I can’t remember names). And it’s always a nice surprise when I get to see Lauren’s dog Frannie :)
I love The Human Form!!!!

I have been a member of the gym for a year and a half. It has been a remarkably positive experience for me. I am stronger and more confident in how I use my body. The staff is superb. They are well-trained, encouraging and keenly observant. The facility spacious and well-equipped. The workouts which focus on strength, balance and the core are thorough and challenging. The sessions are tailored or modified to each person to help one improve and avoid injury. They are also efficient and never boring as no workout is the same. Members of the gym are friendly and supportive as well. I strongly recommend joining The Human Form to elevate your fitness.

The best gym experience I’ve ever had! For the first time in my life, I’ve stuck with a fitness routine and gym for 3+ years. The HumanForm gives me a welcoming, inclusive community that taught me so much about my body and how to build strength and endurance! They’ve also corrected a weak ankle issue I’ve had for years but have gone 2+ years without an ankle injury! My 3x weekly visits to this gym is by far the best part of my week. They have turned me into more confident, strong, healthy version of myself and I will forever by grateful for them.

I’ve been a member of Human Form for over six years. For me, the primary benefit of belonging is the personal attention to proper form the knowledgeable coaches provide in every session. On my own, I’d likely be emphasizing (or straining) the wrong muscles. The format of the workouts are structured and guided, yet flexible enough to allow me to challenge myself at my own pace. I highly recommend HF to anyone who is looking for the combo of structure, coaching, and flexiblity in their gym routines.

I went to participate in a kettlebell worshop this past weekend, that instructed about proper form/etc with regard to a single clean and doing a Turkish get up.
Jade and Lauren did a great job covering everything, Michelle was also there to assist, from demonstrating and instructions, checking the group, personalizing and giving pointers/corrections to everyone. There were approximately 15 people at the workshop. The location has an industrial vibe and one of the large doors was open bringing in fresh air. They had large fans running as well. (Side note they do have a/c but this day they chose fresh air).
It was a great class and I hope to attend more, definitely worth my Saturday morning.
Many thanks to the ladies!

I love The Human Form. Every time I go in, I know I'm getting a quality workout. The owners and coaches know me and take great care to personalize the workout to fit my body and fitness level. I am so fortunate to have found The Human Form. There was a point in my life where my entire body shut down. I couldn’t do anything except get through my work day. I was depressed about not being able to do any of the activities I had once enjoyed. But also, to be honest, I hated to workout. I hate to sweat, so for me to join a “gym” was something I wouldn’t do. The Human Form staff changed that for me! I have been on an amazing journey with The Human Form; and their positive and enthusiastic approach to be the best you can be is inspiring. They are professionals that practice what they preach. I like the fact that Michelle has been not only my personal trainer but my friend. As much as I hate to workout I love going to see them and know that I am doing something good for me. Even if I have to sweat a little.

In January 2017 I was significantly overweight, on medication for high cholesterol, and had an A1C that was creeping toward “pre-diabetic” range. Frankly, it was the result of a journey that started with me wearing “Husky” sized jeans as a kid and continued, with a few brief detours of fitness, into the land of 2X and 3X sizes, ice cream every night and huffing and puffing if I climbed the three flights of stairs to my office.
In the end, good old-fashioned vanity got me off the couch and into the gym. My daughter got married this past year and visions of that walk down the aisle flooded my mind. Now I knew people would be looking at her not me, but I knew there would be a million pictures and I swore I wouldn’t be the answer to the question “who’s the fat guy next to that beautiful bride.”
In the luckiest bit of random social media searching, I found HF on Yelp. I still remember talking to Stephen on the phone and after hearing him explain the small group philosophy I asked him “how can I, an out of shape 57-year-old man, be in the same class with 2 or 3 people in their 20’s or 30’s who may be in great shape?”
“Trust me,” he said. “We make it work.” It turned out lesson number one was “trust Stephen.”
From the minute I walked into HF I felt something special and unique. Looking back on it, Stephen, Michelle, James, and Jeff were all pretty gentle with me in those early days. They clearly could tell how out of shape I was and their first concern was that I didn’t injure myself. But they never made it feel like they were “babying” me. What I felt was challenged, encouraged, motivated and frankly, cared for.
In the months that have followed, it has only got better. Michelle and Haleigh have offered invaluable nutritional guidance. James, Jeff, Cam, Haleigh, and Pat have continued to push and prod me in every workout. But it’s done without an ounce of the loud, macho, “no pain, no gain” nonsense you see and hear at other gyms. What they do is get to know you, your strengths and weaknesses and your personality so they find a way to always help you do the most that YOU are capable of doing.
And their approach has paid off. In 2 years I’ve lost nearly 70 pounds. I’ve developed muscle mass I didn’t have when I was in my 20’s. I’m no longer on cholesterol medication and my numbers are better than they were when I was on it. I don’t cringe when I see how I look in my clothes these days. And the best part is I love – I mean truly love – the time I spend at HF every week. I look forward to it and miss it if work or family obligations get in the way.
I haven’t completed the journey I started in January 2017. But I’m enthused about what lies ahead for me. I’m looking forward to doing the work and enjoying the results. With all my new found friends at Human Form.
And as for my concerns about all those wedding pictures? Well, I wasn't stunningly gorgeous like my daughter, but damn if I didn't look pretty good.

If you don't think you're going to fit in with a bunch of muscle-bound gym-fiends, think again. All of the members at HFF are strong, but none of the members fit the stereotypical idea of a weight lifter. There is a diverse range of ages and bodies at HFF. Stephen and Michelle have created a really unique space where you are challenged and supported equally by highly qualified trainers and by wonderful members.
If you're wondering if this is the place for you, you should stop by and have a chat with Stephen or Michelle and check out the facilities. I've been a member for over two years and I can't imagine stopping anytime soon.

I am about to start my 6th year at The Human Form. When I joined, I had just turned 45, my years of long distance running had caught up to me with chronic foot, ankle, knee and back pain. Not to mention the reduced energy to work out.
I tried a very popular high energy / loud music / low cost / P90X type of place that was brutal. All I saw was poor form and people thinking they were getting a good work out when all they were doing was trying to finish a ridiculous 60 minute boot camp set of exercises.
I was referred to The Human Form by a few friends in Upper Arlington who were really feeling great. I quickly learned how naive 90% of the "workout world" is (including trainers and coaches). These guys are biomechanical fitness wizards who know how to get maximum effectiveness with correct technique. Translation: you do not need to kill yourself 5 days a week for an hour.
2-3 times per week, 10 minute warmup, 35 minute resistance training, and 5-10 minute cool down in a small class setting (1 trainer per 3-4 members). You leave feeling energized and you look forward to coming back.

I have been a member of The Human Form for almost 1.5 yrs. In the past, I had participated in boxing, boot camp style classes and weightlifting. I considered the form I had been taught pretty good. Then I fell down the stairs in my house and fractured my right scapula. I did not exercise for 4 months. When it was time to return, I knew I was going to need help with my shoulder to get back to where I was.
My friend, Scott Elder, kept posting about a gym called HF and it sure made a difference for him. I talked to Scott, did some research and decided to check it out. Stephen did my very thorough assessment and set me on my journey.
All I can say is this is the best gym I have worked out in. The coaches really get to know you and are interested in you and your goals. My shoulder improved in no time. I also learned no other gyms I had been to before know exercise form as well as the coaches at HF. The other thing I noticed right away is that HF is truly a community of friends supporting each other. One of the best parts of my days is my class at HF.
Thank you to Stephen, Michelle, and all the coaches!

I’m a 50 year old woman with a lot of back issues.I’ve been with Human Form Fitness on and off for 5 years. When I first came to HFF, I just herniated a disk in my low back and was miserable. After getting the ok to begin an exercise regimen, I started working out again and slowly, but surely not only got back to where I was prior to injury, but was even better than before!
The expertise of every trainer at HFF is unparalleled. I’ve been to many gyms both in Columbus and in other parts of the country. HFF is by far the best ever!!! Not only do they know how to work with serious injuries, the community I’ve found has been wonderful. I can’t say enough about the integrity and passion if owners Stephen and Michelle Ladd.
Please come be part of this greatness!! You will not be disappointed.

Exercise? Me? Never!! Oh a few trips to the YWCA riding a cycle for 30 minutes, bored out of my mind. Then my friend Mandy Miller told me about Human Form and how it had changed her life – she lost weight, gained strength and found a new lifestyle.
Huh? Me? My birth certificate says I’m 76 (and a half!) even though my head tells me I’m 30! My body was also that of an elder! It’s too late for me, I’m too old.
“Give it a try!” said Mandy.
So I did.
Well, it has changed my life. The biggest change came after around 4 months when I realized my blood sugar was getting too low. I’d been on insulin for about 10 years. Doc said lower the dose – well I lowered it so much that I no longer take it! Doc says I’m still diabetic but my fat which stores insulin has decreased and I’ve added muscle which improves my sugar – Yeah!!
And I’m addicted to exercise at Human Form. Why? I think the biggest reason is the personal approach taken by the wonderful staff. My knee hurts? Well, kneel on a cushion. Back hurts with squats, try it this way. Shoulder not working, well let’s do this. They know all my aches and pains and they make it possible for me to do the exercises that have changed my life physically and mentally.
I’ve been going for almost 18 months and have only missed classes when I was out of the country. Sure, there are mornings that I wake up and think I don’t want to go to class. But I do. And am always so glad that I did!
Another benefit is the introduction to healthy eating through the Whole 30 program. My attitude toward food has totally changed and it’s amazing how much I don’t miss the foods I thought I could never give up – like bagels! I’ve lost 40 pounds since I started Human Form and my new attitude toward food is something I would never have believed I could achieve. Cholesterol, triglycerides, A1C and more – all within normal range. My Doc is as amazed as I am!
I tell all my friends that you’re never too old to get rid of bad habits and develop good ones. And thanks to Human Form, that’s exactly what’s happened to me!!

When my 87 year old dad could do more squats than I could muster, I knew it was time to do something. Friends encouraged me to look into Human Form Fitness. So glad I did!
The HF’s positive environment with a focus on strengthening the body, enlightening the mind, and energizing the spirit is just right for me. The personal attention from the knowledgeable, generous and ever-watchful staff helps each of us work to our maximum as we are coached through the details of correct form. I am inspired by the commitment and progress of everyone in the small group workouts.
My body is changing–my core, arms and back are stronger, my backside is tighter. I’m just hoping that I can beat my dad in our next squat off!

What can I say about the Human Form?
I am stronger and sleeker, I work hard. The coaches challenge me every session and they don’t let me slack. The result? I am more fit now at 48 then at 38 or 28 or even 18.
Deep gratitude for all the coaches who have helped me go beyond my original fitness goal, which was simply to have more energy. Thank you to: Stephen, Michelle, James, Jeff, Cam, Pat, and Haleigh for all your support and guidance. Working out at HF is the best investment I have made in myself.

I came to The Human Form completely broken, inside and out, and they saved me.
Physically, I have a rare birth condition that makes everyday tasks difficult and causes chronic pain throughout my body. Emotionally, I’ve battled anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and self-image issues since I was a little boy… I was the chubby gay kid who found every way out of gym class. I started yo-yo dieting in 6th grade. And I became obsessed with counting points, calories, and fat grams at an age that would make any parent cringe (including my own).
So when I stepped inside The Human Form in February 2015, it wasn’t to get a beach body or to lose a quick twenty pounds; I was on a fight to save my life.
In the beginning, I could barely get up and down from the floor without screaming in pain. My progress was achingly slow, but then about three months in, something happened: I started moving faster, easier, and with less pain. From that point on, good things started to snowball for me.
What I found on Chesapeake Avenue wasn’t a gym; it was a community. I met the best physical therapist who gives me additional support for my chronic pain. I met my functional medicine doctor who helped correct a myriad of vitamin and hormone deficiencies and helped fix a years-long gut issue. I met Stephen and Michelle, who offered me kindness, support, and nutrition coaching. And I met James (Jimmy). He’s not just my trainer… Jimmy is one of the smartest people I know, and he cares about me more than I can describe in this little paragraph. He’s helped me navigate through all the pain—both physical and emotional.
In a little over two years, I’ve lost 70 pounds and two pants sizes. But for me, it isn’t about what I’ve lost; it’s about what I’ve gained. I’ve gained the confidence to eat real food and to not be hungry. I’ve gained the ability to look myself head-on in the mirror for the first time in my life. I’ve gained the confidence to stop counting anything. I’ve gained ridiculous amounts of strength in muscles I never knew I had. I’ve gained back control of my mental health. And most of all—I’ve gained back my life.
I still have a long way to go in my journey to good health, but I sure am glad I have my friends at The Human Form to be there with me.

This is unlike any gym I've ever been to in my life. In fact, I hesitate to call it a gym. When I found The Human Form more than 4 years ago, I had so much weight to lose. And I had never stuck with a gym for more than a couple of months. (Usually, some sort of injury would sideline me and I would find myself forever starting over.) The Human Form changed all that, from the first assessment...to the 1:1 session...and through to all the small group personal training sessions, The Human Form has been a completely unique experience.
Four+ years later, I'm down about 50 lbs and I'm stronger (and more confident in my physical abilities) than I've ever been. It's the customized training and the expertise that drew me in and helped my along this path, but it's the community and its supportive atmosphere that keeps me motivated. It really is a special place, especially for those of us who may feel a bit out of place in other fitness environments.

I've been going here for over a year. Fantastic trainers with well thought out personal training plans for each individual. It's helped my meniscus tear and stay fit in a way I can responsibility and safely build muscle. Id say the gym is for a person that wants prevent injuries from daily tasks and stay in good shape. Not for Olympic style lifting and powerlifting. No open gym but they always have times available during the morning and late afternoon for group classes and personal training. I recommend stopping in and getting an evaluation!

Stephen and his Team at The Human Form are amazing. If you are looking for improvement in personal health or ways to improve your golf game, Stephen will make it happen. I have reached new heights and consistency with my golf game, including a three round stretch of 64, 65, and 67. When I first went to The Human Form, I decided I would give Stephen a year and figured I would not see much change and be on the search for something else. Now after working with him for over a year, I know I will still be working with him next year and the foreseeable future.
