This place has truly been a Godsend for my son. The level of dedication and seriousness they bring to the art is unmatched, and it’s inspired my son to rise to that same level of commitment. The trainer-to-student ratio is excellent, allowing him to receive focused, individualized attention that has helped him grow tremendously.

The owner, Steve, is exceptionally kind, honest, and professional. His leadership sets the tone for the entire program. Because of the outstanding experience my son has had, I’m now excited to enroll my daughter as well.

I contacted Mr Hatfield because my daughter had been getting bullied by several kids at her school. He explained right there what his dojo was and what it wasn't. He didn't try to sell me a gimmick to get me to enroll my child there, he was totally straight forward (I appreciate that). We scheduled a day to tour his dojo, almost as soon as I got there he took me outside to talk about what has been going on with my daughter. You can definitely tell he is passionate about what he's doing. He even showed my daughter a couple moves they could do to defend themselves, which he did not have to do. Both my daughters and I were extremely impressed. My one daughter will be starting tomorrow night. The other is working on graduating high school this year so she may start at a later time but she's Def interested. He helped me through registration process... some schools we have looked at have only cared about money and tournaments and not actually having a compassion for teaching. And his classes are diverse, there's young and older people alike. We are looking forward to this next chapter. Thank you!

My instructor was Steven and this was the best self-dispense construction that I've had ever. I've been to several classes throughout the years but his rawness made me self reflect on the importance of being able to defend yourself in any type of situation. I learned about The Technician Dojo/Safe House Grappling through the free womens self defense class, a really cool way to get a feel for the style and concepts taught. I have since signed up to be a student.

So far, I have really enjoyed the level of attention that I get as a student and have gotten to learn A LOT. My favorite thing about the classes is all of it has a real world application - how can I best use this in a real world situation? Since I signed up primarily to learn how to defend myself, I like that this is strongly emphasized. The instructors keep things very real, and I know a lot of folks would probably find some of the discussions and drills intense and a bit scary! For me, I was not looking for sugar coding and learning slowly, so it is a perfect fit for anyone looking for that type of experience.

I am taking self defense class with Steven on Tuesdays at 7pm. The class has been more than expected. He really changed my perspective on how to prepare myself in real life scary scenarios. I would recommend this class to anyone of all ages, he’s really knowledgeable in what he teaches and has me feeling more confident. The beginning of the 2024 school year got off to a rocky start last fall. Though it was my son's second year at his school (1st grade) it was his first year to experience being bullied. I knew that teaching him to fight wasn't the solution, so I began seeking martial arts programs with the intention to teach him focus, discipline, teamwork, how to manage himself socially and self defense. Boom TTD. A true diamond in the rough. We are a small community of instructors, students and families that believe in honor, integrity, respect and learning the skills and techniques to keep our children and ourselves safe. Since joining TTD my son has learned how to better manage himself during confrontation, he's more confident and he enjoys attending class each week. I have started taking classes myself and am enjoying the challenge and encouragement from the instructors, my fellow students and other moms that have decided to hit the mat with the kiddos. I look forward to the growth, the knowledge and the lessons that Sensei Steven has to offer. His passion for Martial arts,
commitment to the culture & teachings is inspiring. We don't do it for sport- we do it for the skill, the knowledge and the personal growth. If you are looking for REAL self defense & martial arts training in an intimate setting where the instructors treat you like a student and not just an enrollment, you need to join us on the mat and find out for yourself why TTD has been around for 22 years and counting.

My son wanted to try karate, so I looked into a few dojos in the area. After talking to Mr. Hatfield about his martial arts and self defense training, I was very interested. He answered all of my questions over the phone and allowed my son to come sit in and watch a class. He was excited to start and has been learning a lot over the last few months. He I m pressed me with his technique, heart and drive to make himself better. I’ve been following Sensei Hatfield for a while on Facebook. I’ve been wanting to get back to training in Wae Kune Do karate system for years, but i straddled the fence because I wasn’t sure if anyone could live up to Grand Master Clarence West’s standards. I chatted with Sensei Hatfield and he told me to come in and train for a few classes and then make my decision. The very moment I walked in the dojo, I was welcomed with opened arms. He and his instructors were patient with me, being that it has been 15 years since I last trained. I love the fact that he explains every move and why we do them. He takes martial arts more serious than anyone I know! He cares about his students and their well being! I’ve been to many martial art schools and have been around many instructors, you will not find one better than Sensei Hatfield! His knowledge for the Arts is incredible, and at the same time he is very humble. This is a martial art school that gives you the know how for real life situations! This place is very organized clean fun and structured! All of the teachers are very professional friendly and extremely helpful with the kids and parents. My son loves going, we have been at the dojo since July 2022. My child was having a lot of issues overall and sensei Hatfield has taken a lot of time and effort to help guide him and add structure he desperately needed. He is very one on one with the children and checking with the parents to offer support. I am so grateful to have this dojo and the dojo family. Not only has my son grown and became more disciplined and confident but so have I. I also attend the self defense class that has helped me feel more secure as a single mother and learning discipline myself! My kids have been here for a couple years now and their progress have been nothing short of amazing. My 10 yr old who was 8 at the time was being bullied in school. My son has been in class for almost 3 months. 1st month in he wanted to give up but I wouldn't let him now he's excited about learning the art. He's constantly showing me what he's learned although I am in class watching. Sensai is amazing. He meets the kids where they are and helps them progress. This is definitely not your cookie cutter dojo. He is definitely preparing these kids and adults for the real world in here. You never know when or where you'll need to defend yourself. My kids love attending class here. They have attended class with both Master Bill Cromer and Master Steven Hatfield. Both instructors push students to be their best both in class and outside of class. These guys care deeply about the kids they teach. There are both small and large classes. Smaller classes offer more one on one time with the instructor. Larger classes offer higher energy exercise and interaction with lots of peers, and are staffed with additional instructors to ensure the kids are maintaining good form. My youngest watches and imitates; she can't wait until she can join in as well. I will be happily enrolling her when she is able!

They do a great job developing students and preparing them for the "real world". Recently there was a mace class and my kid attended. This is not your typical dojo, nor is it a sport facility. Respect, a lack of ego and a humble willingness to accept teaching is needed. Along with the expectation that growth is impossible without commitment.

Our greatest regret in moving out of Columbus is leaving this dojo. Sensei Hatfield went above and far beyond in my family's instruction, as he does for all who truly want to learn.
