I first saw photos of Jarad's guided climbing experiences years ago, and was so excited to join him on a trip recently in Joshua Tree National Park.
I've known Jarad Stiles since we attended high school near Lake Tahoe together. I was so impressed to see him turn his life long passion for climbing and exploration into an outlet for others to share in those outdoor experiences. Jarad has a gift for bringing people together, which has been a characteristic of his since we were younger, but it is remarkably demonstrated while guiding newcomers to the world of rock climbing.
Myself and the others in our guide group were made to feel safe, confident, and stoked regardless of our previous experience or fitness level. He was very knowledgeable about the area we explored and encouraged us to take on different routes that would be the perfect level of challenge for each person.
I had a ton of fun testing myself on the rock as well as learning about the gear, culture, lifestyle, and even geology that Jarad was well versed in. Truly a day I'll never forget. Please give yourself the opportunity to go play outside with Jarad and Vertical Adventures!

I visited this climbing gym on a Saturday afternoon with my 5-year-old nephew, excited to have a fun and active outing. Unfortunately, the experience was frustrating and disappointing.
I asked a staff member to belay me, and they told me theyβd be there in just a few minutes. I waited β and waited β but no one came to help. After a follow up, and 30 minutes passed, someone finally showed up asking if I still wanted a belay. At that point I had lost all interest and decided I didnβt want to force the staff to do something if they werenβt genuinely interested in helping a customer. Did not get a single climb in. All the while, I was trying to keep my nephew entertained and safe in a busy environment, which made the delay even more stressful.
It felt like I was completely forgotten, and it really soured the entire visit. I expected better communication and support, especially on a weekend when families are coming in to enjoy themselves. Otherwise the gym was well equipped.

The staff is helpful for beginners. There is no more auto-belay apparently in Columbus including here. But one can do bouldering instead. They also have a small gym with decent equipment ( I didn't try this so don't know how comprehensive it is). The place has a very friendly vibe, and people are kind and accommodating.

So welcoming, kind, and helpful. My children 6 & 4 have been interested and they had a lesson with Sammy and Sydney. As we left the first words out of my kids were, βCan we come back tomorrow?β This is such a great activity and I would highly recommend. Iβm thrilled they had such a wonderful introduction. Thank you!

Cash grab. They close for weekends and donβt let members climb. Also offer great deals to new members while old members are left with huge bills. And the kids running around like itβs trick or treat is very annoying. This has just pushed me to climb outdoors and pursue larger projects

Look, I get that we want kids to get into climbing young to advance the sport, but this gym is seemingly catered to only kids. Itβs packed after working hours with kids everywhere who donβt respect climbing etiquette. I spoke with a lot of members and all agreed that VA has way too many kids when adults are off work and trying to climb. Other gyms have kids nights or kids only areas, I recommend something like that as it did steer me away from VA

The facility is great! Super clean, a variety of difficulties, and the staff is super sweet and helpful. James and Pleiades were awesome for my intro class, River was an amazing instructor for the belay cert class (Seriously, she's fantastic!), and Pleiades did my Top Rope test (which I passed, and they made me feel confident and comfortable where I was a little nervous.)

The facility itself is nice just currently not a place for me to go. They only had two staff members on site. None of them were able to belay you. No auto belays as a back up for this either because they want people to go together and build a community. This is a con for me and Iβm sure other people. Iβm from out of town and just wanted to climb without being social. Sadly I just paid $13 to sign a waiver. Iβm sure Iβll come back at some point if I happen to be out this way with a friendβ¦

The facility itself is amazing, but the problem is that they got rid of the auto-belays. I understand the safety reasons for this, but then they should compensate for it by having more available staff to serve as belays. This change has made climbing here less accessible to those who are not advanced climbers or who do not have an experienced partner to belay them.

Me and my four kids use to love going here. I would always take than whenever they had a break from school. But VA decided to stop using the self belaying apparatus so you have to either pay for someone to belay for you or pay to take the class to belay. Be warned they donβt tell you this before you pay. I paid 80.00 for my kids to climb then they told me that they have made some changes. Long story short I paid 80.00 for the kids to go up and boulder for 30 mins. So again be warned that if you ever went here for a periodical climb take someone to belay for you schedule and pay someone to belay for you or schedule to take the class and try to stay proficient at it. We are very sad that these changes happened and that they didnβt tell me before paying.

We did the high 5. We had a group of 5 and they added another person in our group so a total of 6. We arrived on time and had our waivers filled out already. Not everyone in the group got their 5 climbs and I only did 1 because I wanted the kids to do as many as they could. I asked our staff person if there was someone else who could help so we could all get our climbs she said no I asked if we would get refunded the climbs we don't get and she said no.

Recently found out this gym discontinued their matinee pricing when the charge went from $17 (with shoe rental) to over $30. We will not be returning. Used to enjoy this place and how they made climbing accessible. Guess they donβt care about that anymore. I donβt climb enough to justify a membership. My friends and I used to meet here a few times a month to boulder. Due to our work schedules at the hospital weβd always make weekday matinee. We will not be returning at these prices. Also, the bouldering wall often leaves much to be desired.

Not terribly expensive for what it is. It's always a blast to come here. The only thing I've ever taken issue with is that many parents will take their kids here and let them run wild, which is a safety issue and a minor annoyance.
All things considered, though, VA still deserves all 5 stars and I hope to continue coming here for years to come.

My husband and I took our ten year old grandson to Vertical Adventures on Tuesday afternoon. Ben, the assistant manager, was so kind and patient with him! The climbs are good with a wide range of skill levels. In my opinion, there is a lack of creative climbs in the mid-range level (5.8-5.10), however this seems to be improving.
The biggest issue we've had is that whenever we email them to make a change to our membership, we wait a week or more for a response. The people in person are wonderful, but really can't do much regarding the memberships, so this has been a major sore spot for me. Our contract stipulates we give 5 days notice to any change, yet even when we give more than twice that, they still don't respond until much later, in some cases after the membership has been charged for the month.

This was so fun! I love having a blast and being active and I found out Iβm a spider monkey today ahah I climbed every one I could do by myself, at least thrice. And one I did the bouldering on the highest incline and that was super fun. I have an invisible disability, a spinal cord injury and disease. So being able to do everything everyone else was, at least once, felt really empowering and I was super scared to jump off the first time cause I worried the landing would hurt my back but literally the opposite. It let me down so gently. Where can I find a carabiner for daily life? ππ maybe Iβd give one to my ex so I can let them down easier πππ€ΈπΌββοΈ

Pros
My son loves this place. He had his 10th birthday party here. All of his friends had a great time and the staff is very nice.
Cons
I was told I'd get 30 minutes before the party to set up our area. When I got there we had to wait awhile and only had 10 minutes to set up the table, blow up balloons, and get situated. Our party guests had already started showing up and had to help us set up because we were so behind.
Additionally, I was told the $350 party price tag would include 2 instructors. They were short staffed and we only got one. Because of that, it took too long to teach each child how to climb and we quickly ran out of time for food and cake.
While we did not get a discount of any sort, we did use the table and space for an extra hour. I still don't feel like we got our monies worth, but everyone had a great time so I'm still giving it 4 stars.

I had a wonderful time for my first time there with my dad! we went on a sunday at noon and it was not too busy at all. i had climbed for a few years while my dad who I came with was brand new. The introduction video was about 5 minutes once we first arrived and was a great touch for orienting us first in key basics for climbing. The auto belay intro was good and took about 10 minutes and then finally we got a quick walking tour around the gym to get acquainted. the facility was large and clean. Honestly one of the largest and most comprehensive facilities Iβve been in. alyssa was friendly and helpful at testing me for belay certification. and andrew was attentive to checking in on us and went above and beyond to ensure our first time there was great. very friendly staff. excellent first impression.
at the facility, youβll find:
- 7 auto belays (2 for speed climbing)
- about 5 separate top roping walls with some routes a little shorter and some longer
- lead climbing
- two bouldering areas
- gym and hangboarding area

This is a fantastic gym. We traveled here from out of town to tryout a different gym and VA did not disappoint. We did think that there were going to be more auto belay climbs (maybe 4?), but having a good bouldering area upstairs and on the base floor more than made up for it. Be aware that if it is your first time going they will test you on both auto belay, regular belay, and lead to make sure you know what you're doing. (The questions for regular belay were very vague) So make sure you know how to explain the process π The routes were really great and had a nice selection that's difficulty ranged from vb/5.5 to V10/5.14 so there is something for everyone.

Best gym in central Ohio! β¦also one of the only ones. It really is a great gym though.
If you are new to climbing there is plenty for you to explore and conquer, but experienced climbers can still find plenty of more challenging problems. Routes are regularly reset, with a new chunk being set every week. The culture is great. Definitely worth visiting at least once, and a great gym to regular as well.

This review is not about the main adult gym / facility which is truly spectacular. This is about their youth programs which are misleading. My son climbed in a youth class from November - May and never once was tested (they say they test frequently), given feedback or opportunities to advance. They said it was our fault that we missed an email (indeed it was either missed or lost but a horrible thing to blame us) - but we were there every Saturday and the instructors had plenty of chances to communicate with us. While they say they are committed to youth development, it will take some new team and focus to believe it. I am not alone, I know at least 4 other parents who have experienced the same lack of follow through and absent communication. Iβm only posting this so other parents enter into the experience with eyes wide open and know that the youth climbing classes are really similar to a Rec center- nice people, nice facility- but donβt expect much more. They have a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, skills and strength in kids. A total miss for our community since they are the only game in town. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but thereβs no excuse for a customer to struggle to get answers or to be blamed for being the problem when indeed, we werenβt.

The facility was certainly an adventure. The staff (special shout out to Briana) was a pleasure to work with. From proper harness adjustments, to encouraging tips during the team belay, she made my son and I feel welcomed and comfortable when asking questions. We will be coming back soon.

Ian and Ben did an awesome job with an 8 year old birthday party. 16 rowdy kids is no easy task and they kept everyone safe, challenged, and having fun.

First time ever climbing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff (Thanks Shelby for all your help). Amazing to see so many great climbers. Good place if you want to learn to face your fears and learn new skills. Pretty safe, too.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this place after reading some of the older reviews. Shelby and Ben were working tonight and both were extremely friendly and helpful. Shelby got us checked in and through all the COVID protocols. Then we began to top rope and having never been there had to test out. Ben tested us and offered some tips and tricks aswe are fairly new to the sport.
Routes are clearly color coded and easy to distinguish with a great selection. Auto-belays are intermixed with top rope and appear to be easier routes. I used a couple of them when my 14 year old went to the boldering area.
Of course the customers were all super friendly (the climbing community seems to be the most supportive people ever) and even offered to catch for me while he was away.
Definitely will be back
