The golf course itself is great. It’s in excellent shape, the greens are fantastic even though they were punched a week ago, and the layout was fantastic.

I’m not sure how the “best public course” in Ohio can get away with having curbs installed on their cart paths, yet no GPS in their cart. They are not even electric. Forget about the pace of play. I’m at 4 1/2 hours writing this right now, and I still have 3 1/2 holes left. Maybe including a picture of the golf course on the opposite side of the scorecard would help new timers too. Having the Rangers push play along rather the playing on their phone looking for free golf is also a novel concept.

I think this course is an opportunity for every 30 handicapper to come out and see what they’re made of. Which is a really, really bad idea. If you make the drive, bring friends so you dont get paired with people who have no clue what they are doing.

This is a beautiful course with amazing views. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was surprised at how little it cost to play off season. I highly recommend booking yourself a tee time and playing this amazing, but difficult course.

For the money, the place was not in as good of shape as it should have been. Uncontrollable, but cart path only on this track is murderous. It’s ruined our day.

No beverage cart, no driving open, no access to the clubhouse even at the turn. Once ya start, that’s it.

The service and amenities absolutely ruined the day.

The course is great and beautiful, I’m a single player and I’ve been grouped up the last two times I was here. I know that’s normal but for me and my play style it just isn’t it. If you’re a single and prefer faster pace of play to keep you in a groove I wouldn’t recommend this course. Otherwise if you’re coming with a group, it’s a great place to go have fun with your buddies. I left after 8 holes, started at 10:50 and left at 1:19.

GOOD , BAD, And the TRUTH
Course great as you would expect ! Ranger Rick and team are relentless, mind you can not drive carts with in 60yards of greens ( ALLOT of walking ) Guess your suppose to run ?
Food and service NONE there were no servers, they all quit, no food, no bar service, we played four 18 hole rounds with no service, bartender, there was a cart girl WHOOPIE ?
Management the problem? YES, YES, YES

Had an awesome day at Virtues Golf Club! We got through 18 holes at a good pace thanks to the 10 minute tee time spacing, which really kept things moving. The course itself was in fantastic shape fairways were pristine and the greens were lightning fast (challenging but fun!)

The pro shop was excellent, and the halfway house at the turn had great food, the deli sandwich, brat, and hotdog all hit the spot. A nice bonus is that when you purchase a weekend round at full price, they include a golf towel and free range balls, which was a great touch.

One small heads up: the carts don’t have the best brakes and there are a lot of hills, so be careful. Other than that, everything was top-notch. Overall, an incredible experience and I’ll definitely be back!

Nice course but lots of unfixed divots and ball marks on the greens.

When we got to the back nine it took over 2 hours to play six holes. We finally quit because it was so slow. The 3-some ahead of us we playing 2 balls each, the group in front of them who knows what they were playing but they were the hold up, because when we passed them we realized they were a hole n half behind the group ahead of them.

When we talked to the pro shop and they said the ranger went home for the night and could not believe it was that slow. Trust me it was!!!

It was sad that on a Wednesday evening it was this backed up, for a weekend I could see it.

Played 8/9/25 for the first time. Price is way too high to not have better carts with GPS. Pace of play was atrocious, with starter asking us to pick it up somehow, when literally 2 couples were in front of us playing from different tee boxes and taking way over pace. I give the 4 stars due to the course itself, with its layout and character it is fantastic. Was cool to get a cheap little divot tool/towel/small bag of range balls. Unfortunately, will not plan to return due to the pace/cost/carts outdated. It’s definitely a cool destination course, but the price is tough 130$ on weekend and packed. Props to the course maintenance staff bc the course was in great shape.

This course is awesome all around. A good mix of mountain-style holes with some flatter park-style holes. Nothing else like it in the area.

The greens are incredibly fast and the grounds are always well kept. Rangers monitor pace of play with GPS and will come out and tell offending parties to hurry up when it gets slow.

I will say that the course is challenging and can make it less enjoyable for higher handicap golfers, but still a great experience to see the great views!

First time I've been here in a couple years. Have always loved the layout here and the difficulty of the course. Course had always been in superb conditions and the pace of play was always pretty good, don't think I've ever had to wait on players. This experience was a little disappointing, course wasn't in as great of shape as in the past. Some weeds growing among the playing areas, greens were beat up bad with ball marks. Then we waited all day from hole #2 til we finished on the group in front of us. Between 5-5 1/2 hrs. Found out that the group in front of us were members so I'm assuming the pace is slow most of the time now. Golf carts were a little dated and has no gps. Afterwards we did eat in the restaurant which was decent and priced well! If you can get to play here at a discounted rate I would play it just because of the layout, but if youre paying full price I'd play somewhere else for that amount. I miss the longaberger days!!!

Course in good shape and a great layout.
Played on a Wednesday at noon. It took 5 hrs. Marshall was out on the course but never pushed the group holding things up, two in front of us, to speed up. Didn't see a beverage cart until 15th hole. Except for halfway house, no water available on course. Great course but not worth spending 5 hrs.

Played in middle of August 2024. Layout is incredible. Great views, lots of elevation changes, and routing mixed throughout the forest and countryside. Really doesn’t feel like you’re in Ohio. The layout is a 10/10 and is likely why the course is rated top 100 by Golf Digest.

Considering its reputation, I thought the conditions were good, but not immaculate - I’d give it more like a 7 or 8 out of 10. Tee boxes were in great shape, but there was lots of grass clippings in the fairway on certain holes. They keep the course pretty soft. Greens weren’t slow, but weren’t as fast as I would expect for an Art Hills course. The green complexes are awesome, but the greens weren’t firm/fast enough to be able to use the slopes as much as they are probably designed for. Bunkers were groomed, and consistent.

The price is good for getting to play a course of this reputation. We did not eat at the restaurant, but it sat on top of the hill, with great views. Menu looked reasonably priced, with lots of good options.

Overall probably a 4.5 out of 5. Worth the trip, even though it’s sort of out in the middle of nowhere.

Overall 5***** Stars
best public place to play in Ohio and a top 100 course in USA.

What started this review is at the end of the round my family were told, from an older person, who said his name was PAUL, (not sure he really told me his true name) we could not go to where we loaded our bags at the beginning of our round in the front portion of the building, so we could load them up in our vehicle, we had to keep our carts in the back of the building area. They tried to clean our clubs for a tip. We all said no we did not need/want this service. Paul kept pushing my wife to help her, she refused, he seemed to be harassing her about the service we declined multiple times. This incident got under my skin quickly and my wife quickly got her bag and got away from PAUL, she had to carry her bag all the way to where we were parked, leaving a few items that I gathered up so she could get away from PAUL. Then PAUL started rushing me and acting like he was just trying to help in a smug/condescending way, he was more interested in a tip for his so-called help. I told him he was starting to piss me off due to PAUL’s actions and unprofessional condescending tone in which he spoke to my whole family and seemed to be overly or unjustifiably offended/resentful. We all had to tell him 3 to 5 times we did not want his help and to just leave us alone, so we could gather the rest of our items up. He would not leave and just kept standing there harassing me while I gathered up our items. I told him after I was done gathering my items, he could take the cart and he proceeded to back the cart up, almost running over my golf bag.
Tee time 12:30 on MONDAY, VERY HOT DAY, 90 degrees plus, we were told we could NOT take the carts out to the vehicle to load up our clubs from the start, had to load up in the front of the building, not a big problem. In the beginning the staff was Okay, the starter was very friendly and helpful, later in the Hot day 90 degrees plus, on hole number 4, we had to seek out the beverage cart, because the person was on their phone not paying attention. We ask for more ice due to the hot day, the person said they didn't have enough to top off our cooler, and that they could give us a cup of ice or put water in the cooler. The person told us to get more ice from the half way house at the turn, 5 holes later. For the price of $65.00, would expect them to make sure the paying customer would be well hydrated. The course could have been in better shape for the price. The greens and most tee boxes were in really BAD shape with old divots everywhere on the greens and tee boxes. The greens had lots of dead patches throughout the entire round, they could have moved the tee markers around, looked like they were there for a while. NOT worth the $65.00 to play there, should of went to 1 of 50 other courses and I will from now on.

Facilities, course and staff excellent. Course is very difficult and challenging. Choose your tee box wisely. We used the white tees and we chose “wrong”. Struggled all holes. Should have used the green or green/white tees. Most holes you’re hitting in to an elevated fairway. You’ll get little to no roll out so your drive distance will only be your typical carry length. I typically drive around 230’ ish total distance. When I measured a couple of what I thought were decent drives my distance was less than 200 yards.
The day was extremely hot and humid, that may have contributed a bit to lack of distance.
Cost for this course is up there at $120.00 but it is an experience to play. Gorgeous scenery.

We were looking for a top course that could be a day trip from Cincinnati and decided the 2.5 hr to Virtues was the winner. To say we had an amazing day is an understatement!

As a rider for many public courses, I was pleased to learn there was no additional charge for me to be on the course! My golfer enjoyed the bag of practice balls provided and the great practice facility to warm up on.

We will definitely be back to Virtues!

Very disappointed with the pace of play. Which made it worse was they put a pace meter on your cart. We tee off after the group ahead of us was walking of the tee. On the second whole we had to wait to tee off. On the third hole waiting on tee box the ranger came bye with 3 groups on hole. He didn’t say a thing. WHY HAVE THE PACE BOX! Waited every hole. On the seven hole we had 4 groups on the hole. Called the club house. Ranger came out. He reset our box and play did not get any better. Nice golf but slow play ruined it.

Denise at the pro shop is great. Range is closed on Mondays just as an fyi. Putting and chipping green were nice. Starter was really nice and we never felt rushed (may have been because we played on a Monday and the course wasn't busy).

Layout of the course is incredible, challenging but not too difficult if you play from the blue tees. Traps were perfect, greens were a 9.5/10 . Plenty of unique and scenic shots and holes. I do not have one complaint. This is a course you have to experience for yourself!

Fairways and greens have divots and ball marks everywhere. Pins are placed illegally on 1/3 of the greens, in spots where your putt will not stop until it has rolled 10 yards off the green. The course is poorly marked making it hard to make a ruling on lost balls. The grounds crew needs to be removed immediately if they want this course to succeed in the future.

Just played there yesterday for my birthday and have always wanted to play here for sometime now. From the first tee box to the 18th you are at awe with the beauty and layout of each hole. I have to say this was the best public course I have ever played on in my life as a golfer. The only complaint I have is we had to play cart path only and by the turn I was too exhausted to really have a chance for a good score card. But I was told it was due to all the rain the day before. We got the stay and play package deal which included a hotel room and a round of golf at Eagle Sticks and the Virtues for just around 2 bills. Other wise your looking at at least a hundred dollars or more just to play Virtues. I really loved the course and definitely will be coming back.

Was in town for work and this was one of the top 100 public courses to play in the country and the only one in Ohio . It was a really nice course and well taken care of all all of the holes were unique . They got me out right away. The only issue and I guess it’s partly my fault for not just grabbing someone before I is they told me there was a cart girl but I never saw her till 15 so I had nothing to drink or eat the I got to the snack shack at 10. It was a super hot day and I had to play the front nine with nothing .

We have a group of 40 playing here this weekend (hopefully) weather doesn't look good. Glad I was able to play it today.
What a course! I had so much fun shot well so that was a plus. It is a challenging course but not so much you don't want to play it again. I would definitely recommend you play the tees that fit your handicap.
Back 9 will eat you up if your not on the short stuff.
Great place overall 👌

Huge clubhouse with nice staff and great food and drink.... The golf course has a great layout, tough greens that were in great shape, plenty of water hazards throughout this solid golf course... Bunkers were here and there and also in real good shape... The rough was thick and tough as it should be... Can't wait to get back and play this track again

The Virtues is an amazing Art Hills layout built by the Longenberger Company back in the 90's. Everything you want in a public course at reasonable prices if planned ahead. Golf pro Hung is a great guy and knows his job well

Beautiful and fun course, usually not busy at all. Sort of an epic course in the middle of nowhere, but it's way better than any other public course within an hour's drive of columbus. Don't know how they stay in business to be honest, but I'm gonna play here as much as possible while it exists in the condition it's in at least.

Attended 50th Class Reunion. Banquet facilities were excellent, food was tasty and nicely done. Beverage service was a bit on the thin side; no Scotch or Martini fixings and only one bourbon.
It was a grand time; everyone enjoyed themselves.

This course is not even close to what it used to be. The court yard out front is full of weeds which initially makes a bad impression. The course has places where there is no grass.
The greens are still nice and difficult. I don’t like giving this review because I used to love to play here. I paid $125 years ago tho play here, and it was worth it. I paid a discount rate of $50 this time and it’s worth no more than that. If you’ve never played The Virtues, play it, but I’m comparing it to when it first opened when Longaberger owned and ran it.
It’s still beautiful out there and the scenery is magnificent in spots, but the course itself is just not what it used to be.
There are at least 2 other courses in licking county that are in better shape than The Virtues and don’t cost $80-$100.

A very nice public course in a beautiful setting. Fairways really flow with the land and provide many scenic views. I've played this course probably three or four times over the last couple of years with just enough time in between to forget how sloped the greens actually are as opposed to their appearance. All of the holes are pretty strong and there are a number of teas that should be able to fit every individual's game. This last time I played the greens were fairly firm but it was also very windy that day and I think they would have held fine if hit from the fairway without dealing with a tailwind. There is a decent practice facility and a putting green right by the clubhouse. The cart girl on a Tuesday probably went by us six times in 18 holes. The clubhouse has got to be one of the largest club houses I've seen at a public course. There are no houses on the course and you won't find parallel fairways. They have planted a number of daffodils alongside several of the holes just inside the tree line which makes things very attractive in the spring. As far as public courses go I think it is one of the best layouts and best conditioned courses in the state.

I played this course back in October, and it was in really good shape for the time of year in Ohio. The greens were recently aerated, so I got 50% of the next visit. Just played there for the second time over the weekend and had a great time. Range is very nice, rate of play was normal, and course condition was immaculate. Highly recommend playing here.

I've had the opportunity to photograph several weddings at the Virtues Golf Club. It has come to be one of my favorite places! The layout is extremely beautiful - with rolling hills and tree-lines for miles. In the evening, the sun sets over the hill which is amazing for couples wanting gorgeous, glowing images. The event and catering staff are so kind and are always willing to help. If you're considering an outdoor ceremony, Virtues has one of the best layouts for it. Highly recommend checking this place out when considering an event or wedding venue!

I played this course in early June. The grounds keeping was perfect. Due to Covid golfing was different but the course did everything it could to make sure the trip was worth the price. Understand yes the course is more expensive then you typically find but once you play here you will understand why. Well worth every penny spent to play and I will for sure return when I have time.

My son was married at Virtues on Saturday. The experience exceeded our expectations! Christie, the event director, handled everything, no matter what challenge we handed her. The food was the best I have ever had at any of the many, many weddings I have been to. The facility is top notch. The wedding was held outside overlooking the impeccably beautiful golf course and then we went directly into the reception/dining area. Christie and her staff had all the table and chair coverings perfectly placed. Ceilings drapes were hung and the candles lit. When everyone walked into the gorgeous setting, it took your breath away. We could never say enough about the service. The wedding was flawless! Thanks Virtues, Christie and staff - AMAZING!!

The layout of the course is great and it is a nice change from what you typically see here in Ohio. The staff was also friendly and welcoming. However the condition of the course combined with the price ($80 for weekday morning) really lowered my overall experience. The bunkers were in rough shape, very shallow and some even had standing water despite very little recent rain. The landing areas and greens were showing lots of unfixed divots and ball marks. Overall I think there has been more play due to COVID and that is what has caused these issues. If it was $50 I would rate it higher, but paying the $30 premium over my normal courses I expect better course maintenance.

Just played at virtues for the 3rd year in a row - it's been in great shape each time. The greens were freshly aerated, which I wish the course would reduce rates for. Very difficult course with elevated greens on all most all holes. I'm usually a little better than a bogey golfer on local courses and I've yet to break 100 from the 6100 tees. Great experience!

Evidently the great reviews posted here were from some time in the distant past. This place, while deservedly praised as a great golfing experience, is a trainwreck for a wedding experience. The food served was good. Great scenery. However, the wedding coordinator was horrendously rude to the wedding party and guests. Evidently, she thought it was her wedding and not the bride and groom's. She has watched one too many wedding reality shows. The tone she used toward the family, the folks who were paying for the event, was indefensible. Not surprisingly, she also spoke to her own employees like they were dirt. If you are considering this venue, I would give careful consideration to other options.
