I hate to say this but as much as people pay for membership or to just go swim is ridiculous. Outside kiddie area closed,then the mushroom isn't working,plus a slide closed. Inside pools something always going on to were one is open other closed or vise versa.

People are top rated. The facility is dated, however they are doing updates. My only real complaint is that they let you know when they're closing something else. I.e. saunas, lockers, showers...

When we first arrived we didn't see an outdoor pool it was hidden in the back of the parking lot but once we found it the staff were amazing they were polite the pool was very well taken care of that YMCA outdoor pool definitely made it worth having a membership and traveling an hour and a half away ❤️💯✝️😊

Dropped my 14 year old off to play indoor basketball with his friends, I gave him my card to pay since I didn’t have cash and they denied him entry because the card didn’t “Belong to him” he tried to tell them it’s his moms card and I was on the phone they told him it’s “Illegal”. We have gone many times and paid by card with no issues. Whoever was running the front desk must enjoy profiling kids to feel in control. We canceled our membership a while back because they were constantly closing down rooms. A day pass now costs $15. Pretty steep for a literal gym.

I have been going here off and on for 10 years so let me give you my honest opinion. One thing that has clearly never changed is how mean some of these staff members are. Maybe they hate their jobs. Idk. Then the way they favor the elderly is mind boggling. The workout equipment is only upgraded to benefit the elderly or the cardio focused people. They have had the same crappy machines since I started coming here. If it’s a money issue, stop chasing off the full paying members maybe? To conclude I came back here for the winter so I can enjoy pickleball indoors. I work dayshift like most normal people. The schedule for pickleball is the most atrocious thing I have ever seen. Terrible times and random days. It’s an honest surprise this place is still in business. I can not wait until April so I can enjoy maximum fitness again and outdoors pickleball.

Update: so I canceled my membership since the weather has warmed up however, I have been on a guest pass a few times with a few members to play indoor Pickleball now that the Mitchell Center is open. Everything has been for the most part OK until today. I looked last night and saw that the Mitchell Center was open from 7 AM until 2 PM so me and a couple friends devised a plan due to the rain and said hey we will play indoors at the Mitchell Center and again I would use a guest pass since I am no longer member. Upon arriving this morning, we were advised that the Mitchell Center is closed due to somebody renting it out at 4 PM. Now I bet you are wondering, why would they cancel Pickleball from 7 AM until 2 PM if it’s not rented out until 4 PM. That’s a great question and we asked the response we got was absolutely insane. We were basically told that we were messy and they did not want to have to clean up after us for somebody to come at 4 PM. When I tell you, they hate people that have fun here I mean it.

One of the most unorganized and cluttered gyms I’ve ever seen.. no room to walk around in the main gym. Too many treadmills and bikes in there they need to get rid of some and open it up more. They never have every one being used at one time and if people want Cardio they can go to the track or other rooms… I like the Y because it has more than just a gym but it’s just a mess in there

I am woefully underwhelmed by my time as a member here. I started membership a few years ago primarily to use the sauna. Unfortunately the sauna was prone to malfunctions and finally put out of service for the majority of the time I was a member. Due to that, and the subpar weight equipment, I chose to end my membership for the time being, or at least until the sauna was fixed; no hard feelings. I have since resumed my membership there and found that it is no better, if not worse, than when I had a membership the previous time. With respect to a handful of wonderful people who work at the Newark YMCA, I have found that many of the employees do not exactly exude positive attitudes nor do they seem to be interested in assisting you with simple questions. I am also deeply troubled by the rather odd enforcement of the rules. Recently I made the honest mistake of entering the gym in my crocs, forgetting to change to my tennis shoes, and was told to "Get out" rather curtly by an employee. I obliged, and apologized for my honest mistake, in response I was further lectured on how I had "violated the rules and should know better," as I walked out. I am not perfect and have no obstinance towards following rules. However I find it concerning that I received such a stern command to "Get out" for wearing crocs, but people wearing shockingly revealing items of clothing are ignored. Despite modest clothing being another requirement of the weight gym. Perhaps the employee was having a bad day, but in summation, the employees here do a subpar job when in comes to creating a welcoming environment. Also the sauna still does not work right. I will continue to be polite to employees and to do my best to follow all rules to the best of my knowledge, however I will be doing so at a different gym. Do better BVFYMCA

I signed up for a gym membership here to get swimming lessons for my two sons. It has been 4 months since then and at the beginning, everything was fine until March 4. The first class of this month. I was very angry that a female teacher named Molly was very disrespectful to my children, she did not call the children's names from the roster list as usual, and she directly ignored my two children and took other children to learn swimming! My kids were left standing outside by themselves for 15 minutes in a 30 minute course. When I went to ask what was going on and ask whether she was the instructor for my kids she just nodded and walked away. We are the only asian people among the multiple classes going on and I can understand if it was a mistake if only one of my sons was missed but both being missed is on purpose. I have called the aquatics director and was told that she would talk to Molly and give me an explanation but the only response I received was if I wanted to change instructors. Due to this experience, I did not want to continue the lessons I paid for and membership at this facility but even that seems hard. Every time I talk to one of the employees, they direct me somewhere else and said they couldn’t cancelled the membership. I have been told the issue has been escalated with the facility management team but so far have not heard back from any of their members. So far it seems that this facility condones racially profiling people and it is not a serious issue for them address.

You really can't go wrong at the Ymca. They have everything you would ever need and more. Currently our kids are in gymnastics, karate and the indoor pool for swim lessons. Even if you don't workout here there are so many things you can do here.

My wife goes her and loves it. The program where they watch you kids for a couple hours on the weekend is amazing. Dropping him off their I saw the place looked brand new. Cleaning bottles everywhere makes me think they take good care of the equipment. Everyone was so nice.....even the young kid behind the desk.
