We are members, we called ahead to make sure we could come visit here with our international membership. They said, yes, when we came in, we couldn't figure out how to get the gate open.So we called and the staff said, we're at capacity. And to go away. There were tons of empty parking spots.I said, how can you be at capacity with this? Many empty parking spots, she said all the spots are for staff. So he waited on the phone a good twenty minutes, and then somebody told us that visiting hours are over for "guests" even though we're not actually guests, we're members!!!

My partner and I were just chased out of the downtown YMCA by two people who felt they deserved to have the gym to themselves. One of them said they wouldn't talk to me because I am a woman. The other screamed at us that we didn't belong because we are white.

All of this started because they thought my partner smelled bad. Ok. We can have a conversation about that. But these two men escalated the situation massively insulting us for both gender and race. It was absolutely awful.

There is a black only clique here that kicked us out today and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND joining if you are white.

No family locker room or family restroom. If you're a single father with a daughter, GOOD LUCK in the men's locker room! I'll probably be looking elsewhere in the future due to this fact alone, unfortunate.

Equipment and programs are sufficient. Love the fact that you have a steam room and sauna. The staff is helpful and friendly. Hard to stay abreast of the programs… I guess I need to regularly check your website?

Love the people, staff and members are friendly and supportive. I find the robust conversations in the locker room to be encouraging, men of faith, unbelievers, democrats and Republicans disagreeing gracefully and continuing to high five and fist bump, encouraging each other in the pursuit of fitness goals. The space could be cleaner and better maintained, I'd like to smell some sort of sanitizer instead of mildew in the spa!

Cycling every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8 am to 8:45 am is an excellent form of cardio. The instructor, Judith, is always making it interesting with her class workout themes, Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, 70s, Elton John, 80s, etc. Cycling is fun, especially when you work at your pace and challenge yourself when you can.

Charged my card months after I discontinued my membership. Called multiple times to get the charge reversed, and while they repeatedly said they would, they never did. Ended up having to dispute through my bank.

Good facilities, but can't recommend after this experience.

BEWARE! Imagine you visit this Y from out of town. You put your things in an open locker to use the pool. Pool is closed so you use the steam room instead. After a steam you go to your locker to retrieve your things. The locker has malfunctioned won't open. you're in your swim trunks with no phone, no keys or wallet. The staff tells you there is no way to enter the malfunctioning locker. You're now STRANDED !

If you're lucky enough to have A friend nearby they can drive 45 min to give you clothes and a place to sleep. But what if you're not so lucky? You sleep on the floor of the Y I suppose. The maintenance person won't show up till the morning. When he does have to physically break into the malfunctioned locker, he'll insinuate it's your fault .

DOES that sound like a RELAXING time at your local Y?

Stay away. BEWARE!!

The Downtown Y has all the amenities you'd expect, along with a few you can't find everywhere else, such as -- my personal favorite -- a handball / racquetball court. (If you see us playing on the court at six in the morning some weekday, stop and say hi!)

AC has been out for two weeks in the weight room. It's a balmy 75 degrees, which is quite unpleasant to work out in. Patrons rarely re-rack or wipe down their equipment after use. The staff is friendly but if I didn't live so close, I would definitely choose another gym.

The YMCA downtown is very spacious. It has great workout equipment and the facilities are well maintained. My only complaint is we have to pay additional fees to park in the parking lot to a facility that we pay monthly for membership. The membership is already expensive compared to other gyms. Charging patrons to park is greedy

Urgent Remodeling Needed for YMCA's Men's Locker Room

I recently visited the YMCA and I must say, the state of the men's locker room was truly disappointing. Immediate remodeling is desperately needed to address the numerous issues that plague this facility.

Firstly, the lockers themselves are in a sorry state. The rust covering them is not only unsightly, but the staff's attempt to paint over it has only made matters worse. It's evident that a fresh coat of paint is not a sufficient solution, and the lockers require proper refurbishment.

Furthermore, the condition of the bathroom stalls, urinals, and toilets throughout the entire facility is deplorable. These fixtures are in dire need of replacement. The constant wear and tear have taken a toll, and it's clear that a comprehensive upgrade is necessary to provide a clean and hygienic environment for users.

On the positive side, the sauna and steam room seem to be functioning well, but they could definitely use a thorough deep cleaning. This would greatly enhance the overall experience for those utilizing these amenities.

However, despite the sauna and steam room being in relatively better shape, the same cannot be said for the men's locker room. It can only be described as atrocious. The lack of maintenance and attention is evident, and it falls far below the standards one would expect from a reputable organization like the YMCA.

In conclusion, it is imperative that the YMCA takes immediate action to remodel the men's locker room. The rusted lockers, haphazard paint job, and the dire condition of the bathroom fixtures are all significant concerns. By investing in a thorough renovation and ensuring proper upkeep, the YMCA can create a more welcoming and comfortable environment for its members. I will provide pictures and videos during my next visit.

Review #1.
My wife has paid for a family membership for at least 20 years. (Kettering Cancer Center Nurse).
We have tried to use the facilities at the closest location and had bad luck at the West Carrollton facility with very rude customers and lackluster employees. We only used the therapy pool and pool area ever.
I have driven and toured the facility downtown twice now. Horrible parking every time, so I plan on riding my bike today.
It is a Sunday, they open at 10 am. The reason for my visit is to visit the whirlpool for 30 minutes. I checked both Facebook and their website. No notice of the area being closed.
My next review will be of today's experience.
I hope you are staffed up.
These one star reviews are hurting you YMCA. You can and have done better.

There is an empty room at the YMCA that are used for private classes. I am a hula hopper and I need a space to hoop with mirrors and so I went to the Y to see about using the room and I had no answer when I was told to e-mail for a response and then when I called about it they said that they would not reserve the room for me although I even offered to rent the space and I was also told that a lot of the employees just let people in the room.
I don’t understand why they would be greedy about an empty room that apparently people are aloud to use anyways. Even when I offered to pay and I was told by a woman in a higher position that they rent out the rooms, The director wouldn’t even have a conversation with me about it and she was there at the office so I sat on hold while someone else just relayed messages to me.
If you’re going to put a public gym out with rooms for people to use then why can’t they use them! I even told the guy I was interested in teaching hooping classes, but I guess that didn’t matter.
I guess that’s what I get for trying to be polite and respectful about using a room at the Y.
There are only so many studios in Dayton and I think it is pretty inconsiderate to not at least meet me and have a conversation about it. Oh well, I’m getting to where I just expect this from businesses not really caring what the customer needs.
Also when I was there at the counter the girl that worked there snubbed me and looked at me like I had the plague. I didn’t think I was that bad to look at, but apparently so! Haha

The bad reviews seem so Karenish. It's not a spa or hotel. It's a 100-year-old building and they got kids working there. Just go lift your weights brah. I love this place. For the size, probably the best gym I've ever been to. SO MANY facilities-- dedicated boxing room, pool, sauna/steam room, 2 basketball courts, + tons more. It's old-school & dope.

The staff here is hit or miss. Some of the clerks at the front desk are wonderfully sweet and helpful, others won’t even acknowledge your existence or mutter a hello while they scan your badge. The food court is a joke. I ordered a smoothie and had to teach the girl behind the counter how to make it because she didn’t know how to. The end result wasn’t anything great either, so I won’t be doing that again… the bathrooms are kind of gross too…
Overall, the gym itself isn’t so bad. The weight room has plenty of equipment and free weights, lots of cardio equipment, a basketball court, and a pool. I’d say you’re definitely getting your moneys worth when it comes to the amenities and free classes, but be prepared to pay an additional $15 a month for parking if you don’t live downtown.

Fair and balanced review this y is probably the best equipped health club in Dayton with all the amenities the problem is the parking is terrible unless you go very early in the morn you will have to drive around looking for a place to park on the street or you can pay extra to park in a lot also restrooms here are generally NASTY

Nice staff. Lots of classes and services. However it's on multiple levels and not exactly easily accessible. You must pay to park in the parking lot or park off site. This is located in almost a 100 year old building so done of the inconveniences make sense. But it is definitely an interesting location! It's very large with many amenities.

My experience has not been good whatsoever. The service I have experienced has been horrible. I have workers embarrass me by being very disrespectful, I have had workers ignore me but speak to other customers in front of me. I have had workers come up to me and disturb me while working out trying to start drama with their attitude. Also I had have been disrespected by a worker who criticized my age and called me old. When I told him that he was rude, he said β€œI’m not rude I’m real”. That was the last straw. Guess what nothing is done. This is the Downtown Dayton Location. If this is how this company treats those who are investing in this organization as well as themselves, then it’s not worth it. I am upset and angry with the treatment I have received at the Downtown Dayton Location. There needs to be customer service classes there.

I've visited and been a member at a few YMCA'S and this is by far my favorite! Everyone is extremely friendly and I love the overall atmosphere! Some may be put off by the $10/month for parking but that's really a steal since the location is downtown and parking can be scarce otherwise. If you just go 5 times a month it more than pays for itself. Thank you Downtown YMCA for making me never want to be a member at any other Y :) It's also really convenient to be able to go to other Y's across the country when I'm out of town too.

I have regularly worked out at the downtown YMCA for the past 5 years and it has been a wonderful experience. The location is convenient, the facility is well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful, there is a variety of equipment of available and there are many class options. The Downtown Y is a beautiful building, great equipment, wonderful staff and perfect location! Our team is using the facility nearly every day and have enjoyed it immensely. We have used nearly every inch of the building, including Cardio room, weights, gorgeous pool, locker rooms, basketball courts, indoor track, aerobic classrooms and have even ran the stairs! On nice days, we pop outside to view the river. SO glad to be using this as our training site for winter. Looking forward to keep using in the future!
