I would give 10 stars if I could! This is the best gym I've ever been to. The child watch staff are exceptional and I feel so comfortable leaving my children there. Karen is an great membership director, Eme the child watch coordinator gives 1000% in everything and Karen in gymnastics is so patient with my children.

Logan the soccer coordinator has really improved YMCA's soccer program.
Every year he's in charge, it gets better and better. He identified a new app that sends email reminders about soccer practices and game times. It's great!
Well done Logan!

My son started on a basketball team at the YMCA over 6 years ago , Coach Dave and Coach Tate team to be exact. Over the last 6 years we have all grown as a big team a really amazing team actually, These boys have become family to us as my son has played with the same player for many many years now . These boys play amazing together and they know each other so well and work so great together as a team and a family , I would like to thank are whole team and coaches for playing fantastic over this last season and just not this past season we have done this time and time again. This team took there time and the have coaches Dave and Tate has volunteered at the YMCA for over a decade, and for the past 6 years while my son has played for them , they carry there self with notbing but respect as they always have and they have both done nothing but a amazing job coaching our kids and I promise you I'm not the only parent that would say that about them 2 . We just finished up an undefeated season this past weekend , So South Kettering YMCA they have 2 different Kettering Teams So my sons team was Kettering Team 1 that is Coach Dave and Tate and the other team is called Kettering team 2 that is coach Combs , This past weekend My son and his team just won are in house tournament to advance to the championship game next week Are Kettering team 1 was so happy to win the game to go to the big game , So here is what gets me because 2 of are kids was not comfortable playing against the other team because just two weeks prior to that we played the same team and they played very aggressive and things got out of hand, We was DISQUALIFIED FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME NEXT WEEKEND just like that all that hard work and it's out the door and our boys are crushed as some of them it is there last year playing, here is just a few examples the coach Combs from Kettering Team 2 came over on my son teams side to confront our coach Kettering team 1 Dave , not 1 time not 2 times it happened 3 times where I find that to be very unprofessional that the coach to do that and it was not like hey man or this or that , that other coach approached are coach being aggressive 3 times it happened, noting was never said anything to coach Combs from the Kettering 2 team , Well we won that game as well , After the game we was talking to everyone from are team then coach Combs walked up to my my husband and my son well my husband said you think you could talk to your kids and the random kids that showed up during the second half cussing at the other kids on the court coach Combs looked at my husband and said very aggressive that is a f lie no one was cussing at you guys my husband said no not us on the other side of the gym the players and we left , and once again nothing happened to him about that why is that ok to talk to my husband like that why is it ok to call my husband a lier? This past game this last weekend who ever else helps coach with Combs keep telling his kids don't play nice don't play nice and once again I'm not the only parent or family that heard that, know I don't think that's very sportsmanship do you ? Well I don't . Now back to the boys lossing there spot in the championship, because we was cheating out of it ,
In the rule book if the opponent team want to protest they have that right up to 5 mins after the game ended to do so , well it also States that it has to come from a coach to the sports director Lane not a parent to Lane well in case a parent went up to Lane to protest about the 2 boys not playing on my sons team , so that's breaking a rule on there side, because once again it has to be the coach to Lane and it most definitely was not , the game was over at 630 are coach Dave received a text message from coach Combs at 815 later that night he was letting him know he was sorry to hear about are team getting disqualified from the championship, first of all why is coach Combs texting our coach to tell him anything when Lane the sports director had not even reached out to are coach yet NOT DONE JUST OUT OF ROOM NEXT

I don't use the Y as much as I use to cause the Physical Therapy that I go thru can easily be done at home. As the weather gets colder I will be using more for my daily walks. I find the staff to be friendly and helpful. Facility is always clean.

My daughter took part in the Summer basketball program. It was a terrible experience. The coaches' communication was very last minute and often inaccurate. I spoke with Lane, who never returned my calls. Each time, I had to call him to get an update. He promised to reimburse us $50 for the issues we experienced. However, a week later when I followed up, he claimed he wouldn't be refunding us $50 because we waited until the season was over. Lane repeatedly acknowledged the numerous issues and claimed to understand, but actions speak louder than words. We are very unsatisfied with our experience and the outcome from Lane.
UPDATE: On 9/9/24, I received a phone call from Melinda. She said she would refund us the $50. I appreciate that she called to make it right.

Had my son play basketball here this year. The communication when it comes to schedules is horrible. They are currently in an "in-house" tournament and we didn't know there was a tournament until two days before the scheduled game. We were only able to scrounge up 5 players last minute. We won the first game. So logic says we would have a game this Saturday. It's now Wednesday night and they have not contacted our coach. The sports director, Lane, has not answered the 2 times I've called nor returned my voicemail. Completely ridiculous.

This place is a scam. After paying 8 months of membership that I was unable to attend due to leg problems, I went to the branch to canceled since they refused to do phone cancelation in 2022 after talking to the regional manager and branch manager. I guess they have a preference on who they attend to. In any event, membership was canceled 3/20/2023 around 6 pm and 3 months after they continue to charge me...wow! I suggest you go and rob a bank to feed/fun your useless life.

Frustrating, standing at front desk 5 mins, completely ignored.π‘ My first visit, needed to know how to get to pool, couldnβt find the entrance. None of the 3 people at desk acknowledged I was even there. One was busy, the other two not so much. I regret getting a membership here now.

Absolutely incompetent running of an establishment. Classes are great and the pickleball games are great. But the overall experience is completely ruined by the front office staff. Poor communication, wildly inconsistent schedules, and a grossly unethical membership fee policy. I promise there is a better place to join nearby that will actually give thought to their members rather than whatever is the most convenient.

We are members and been trying to sign up our daughter for private swimming lessons, emailed the person in charge in March with no response, we filled the online application with no response, we called and left a voice mail to the person in charge, also no response, we went there and filled up an application (a hand written one) still no response, we called again and they did it over the phone!!! Still no response, we initially were in a group lesson but our child gets less than 3 minutes, thatβs not even worth it, we are thinking about canceling from the Y since we are paying for nothing ?????

I have had a terrible time since joining. For example I used the app to plan when to come and then got there and they told me swim was closed for camp. Then I come back again using the app and they tell me swim is closed for maintenance. I come a another time with my 2,3,5, and 12 year old and am confronted by the camp to not use the girls lockers room even though I was trying to follow the sign posted about the adult women's locker for 18 and up. Terrible experience so far I would like to come just once without a negative confrontation.

My son attended the after school program here for just if the school year out of necessity. However from the rest day we had issues. He was being bullied by fellow school agers and had staff that although they claimed to have an understand of his needs (he has ADD/ADHD, seizures, and a slight developmental delay in reading and understanding social cues), all of which was explained prior to him starting, they did not. After several conversations with the director he was moved to a younger age group room but when ever the rooms were combined (as they often were ) he would continue to be bullied. Though I had many conversations with the staff on how to redirect him and handle his break downs they continued to not handle him well. The only reason I have given them three stars is that I was almost always and to reach the director, and his teacher miss Teirea (so?) was amazing. However in my final conversation with the director she still refused to accept that my son was bullied even though the teachers have backed this up. If you have a child that has any form of special needs I would NOT send them there.

Very discouraged with the sign up process.
Desk clerk was traininee. Told different process/information from desk clerk previous week. Last week, told signup would be immediate. Now told must wait (weeks) for insurance company ( I am not in the system, told I would be on 2/1). I could have started earlier if I had been given proper information. AARP said selected gym would help in the process. They were not helpful. Treated as "second class (senior) citizen. I hope going forward things get better.

I have been a member of the Greater Dayton YMCA for over 5 years and love that I can use all the different locations in the area BUT South YMCA is by far my favorite! The size of the facility isn't too big, the equipment is exactly what I need (they also just received all new equipment!) and the staff is very friendly. I never have to wait to use equipment and it is very clean!
My kids also love going into the childcare and playing in the block room. The staff is great and interacts with them. They are very caring.
This Y offers everything: fitness, sports, activities, smiling faces and friendship!

My girls have participated in gymnastics at South YMCA for over 10 years. Coach Karen is one of a kind! She has a unique patience for both a 3 year old and a high schoolers as well as everyone in between. I really appreciate how she interacts with all of the gymnasts. The gymnastics instruction is a well balanced program for gymnasts of every level, but it is truly the coaches that make this program better than the rest!

I have been a member of this Y for many years as my daughter is a member of the gymnastics team and has taken classes since she was 3 years old (she is almost 11 now). I absolutely love the gymnastics program and the coach Ms. Karen. They have been very supportive of her (and my 2 other daughters') growth and potential over the years. The Y itself is a family and child friendly environment with many warm and engaging personalities. My children have also taken part in the soccer program and they choose the most dedicated people to be coaches. I am attached to this place and have nothing negative to say about it. You won't regret choosing this one.

We're newbies here but have had positive experiences so far. One of my husband's coworkers recommended we joined. We're still getting settled here in Dayton and I have definitely needed a place to work out that provides childcare.
This week we registered for a family plan. After taxes it's about $61/month which allows us to take advantage of all of their offerings. I think this daycare is a good experience for my little boy as he's an only child and I'm a stay at home mom - yay for socializing and making friends!
We are actually closer to the downtown location, but we specifically chose to come here for a couple important reasons.
1. Good childcare hours. The downtown location only provides childcare from 5p-8p. This location closes at lunchtime, but is open for the full day.
2. Free parking! The downtown location charges for parking.
If you use childcare, lookout for Nina - she's a sweetheart!
The gym recommends an app to track your workout and suggest future exercises, machines and weights.

My son attends the preschool room. The center is very unorganized, nobody can ever tell us how his day was. They do not care about the children's development and do whatever is easiest for them. The childcare staff also makes you feel as if you are inconveniencing them when you ask about your childs day. Our sons last day is Friday and he will not attend this center again. This is by far the worst center we have attended.

We recently joined the Y at this location and we love it! We mainly only use the swimming pool which is always clean and warm. The lifeguards are the best, especially Jessica and Zoey. We have watched Chris give young children swimming lessons and we are impressed with his patience and how much the children trust him. We go at least three times a week and we have never had a bad experience. I highly recommend the swimming department at this YMCA location.

This Y is as old as I am. They took good care of me and now they are taking good care of my family. Randy has the place in good shape and Eric W runs the best swim team in the area. (it may not be the biggest team, but he gets the most out of his swimmers and helps to make them great human beings)

What a great YMCA! Professional staff, courteous employees, and a very clean, modern fitness center.
