Will not be returning. Day passes are extremely overpriced for what’s offered and my 10 year old wasn’t allowed to go down the slide even though he’s tall enough to stand up and have his head above the water just because he couldn’t swim a full lap in the lanes. Very disappointing visit, but we only came because someone gave us a gift card. I’m glad I didn’t waste MY money on this place.

This location is the reason I decided to get a membership somewhere else and take my son elsewhere for sports. The sports are mainly for fun since it is parent based, my son is only 4, so the very little that the staff is actually involved was so unpleasant. First they told me to request my son be on my nieces team, and for her to do the same since I would be taking them together and they are the same age. They did not get put on the team. Then, we got 4 notices our team would be dissolved since we didn’t have a coach even though I volunteered to coach twice over email and once in person. Reached out to Nic, the athletic director twice about not being able to go to the practice time and to please be moved to my nieces team with a later practice time, which we’ve done before at the Tandy location. Got ignored. Reached out to the coach and told her and she said to email Nic at the same email I had, and he completely ignored my question and asked for my sons name to issue a refund. I asked if there was any work around, he ignored my question AGAIN and just asked for my son’s name for a refund. This was a HORRIBLE experience compared to Owasso and Tandy! If your sport gets moved here just ask for a refund before the chaos.

Absolutely ridiculous!!! Hate that I only got to spend maybe 5mins in the pool if im being generous... I'm not sure if lifeguard training or communication is the issue! But to call a grown woman out for diving into the DEEPend of the pool 5ft where it's CLEARLY NOT labeled as no diving but the rest of the pool is... by not 1 but 2 lifeguard standing together then get an attitude when I ask since when has NO diving been a rule in the deep end, I have been coming for the last 2-3 years and always been told to ONLY dive from the end of the 5ft area of the pool.... Was told it's always been a rule no diving anywhere, then with attitude was told "well clearly no other life guard has seen you do it" haha multiple lifeguards have seen me do it AND been told ONLY THAT END OF THE POOL.. then when I asked why is it not labeled no diving in that area then?!?I'm told again with attitude again "well I don't know it just is that way!?!" Completely ruined my swimming experience with my son... And I was treat like some little child like I was actually doing something wrong or hurting someone, no one else was in the lane and the pool was not over crowed.. again when I asked why?!? I get met with rudeness and thats just how it is... I have pictures showing no diving around the whole pool EXCEPT the 5ft end does that make and common sense!?!

Take your kid here for swim lessons if you want to pay for absolutely nothing. Signed my two year old up for swim lessons and classes were moved to a completely different location last minute which I was not notified of so when I showed up it was already too late to attend the class (the class was moved all the way across town). I decided to give them another chance and showed up the following week to find out the entire class was not only moved to a different location but completely cancelled. There are only 4 classes total so by this point I had already missed half of them. They tried to get me to take a make up class during the week which I cannot do since I work full time. They have been completely unwilling to work with me in any way shape or form. I have asked for a refund several times and all I get is crickets. 0/10 recommend taking your child here for swim lessons. If I could rate 0 stars, I would. Completely unprofessional and horrible customer service. I would never recommend swim lessons here to anyone.

My son played flag football in the fall season of 2024. He played for Coach Amber Darden. NEVER AGAIN! First, she didn’t even coach. It was her boyfriend or husband most of the time. She didn’t even introduce herself to me and neither did he. This was our first time with the YMCA for flag football and we definitely regret it. His coach was awful. He wouldn’t play all the kids fairly in the game. He mostly played his son. When he did play my son, he did really well. But the next game after he played well. He barely let him play. He maybe was in the game for 5 minutes. Which hurt my son’s feelings because he couldn’t understand why because he played a really good game the previous Saturday. It was like he took it out against him. So never again! If your person of color and have kids that play sports. I WOULD NOT ADVISE YOU TO SIGN YOUR KIDS UP TO PLAY SPORTS HERE. Especially flag football!

Stopped by yesterday to sign up my parents on a senior membership. Turns out, there is no such thing. Any “senior” discount starts at 65YO and it is not even a “discount” by the facility. They are simply piggy-backing off the gov-eligible retirement age. My dad is also a federal employee for a few more years before full retirement and there are zero discounts for federal employees. We still proceeded to ask about maybe a benefit signing up through health insurance since both my parents are covered under BCBS Federal plan (one of the best in the country), and the facility does not accept BCBS at all. I ended up signing them up at a gym around the corner for $20/mo since we were quoted $70/mo to sign up here. Insane price for a YMCA. This is a for-profit entity, not a community-based YMCA. Revisit your policies ASAP or change your name to “Lifetime Fitness” to be less deceptive in your revenue-generating goals.

I like the ymca it’s quiet during the week & I enjoy working out in the gym but it is a bit awkward because they don’t play music in there so I feel like I can’t workout without tippie toeing around and I have to be extremely quiet so don’t breathe too hard or disturb anyone haha I think they should consider putting on some music in the gym area so it’s a more inviting atmosphere and not so uptight. In a gym ppl should be able to work out and be comfortable in their environment and I don’t feel that I can lift weights or walk on the treadmill or stair stepper etc without making some sort of noise. Staff is very friendly, and there is access to a very wide range of equipment and machines. My only gripe is that it tends to get poor ventilation in back of the gym section, which makes it feel hot very easily. However, there are fans in place to combat this issue.

What motivates me the most is knowing that friendly faces will greet me at the front desk. Chris Knudsen and Autumn always stop what they are doing make eye contact with me and say hello with true enthusiasm, and as a bonus, I am greeted with some funny conversation to start my day. Chris Knudsen and Autumn always help me feel welcome and excited that I came to work out. It is the small "consistent" efforts that people like Chris and Autumn put in every day that make YMCA Dickenson branch an enjoyable experience and also a deciding factor as to where I want my 3 kids and I to commit our time and energy to weekly. I no longer use the Dickenson Y, or any Y for that matter daily but the floor staff was always nice and cordial.

The following updated review is for management, not the floor or desk staff.

My family membership was terminated without my knowledge. When I found out on January 8th 2024 I went to reactivate it and I was told that I would need to pay over triple what I was paying for the past several years (pre-covid). I am a disabled veteran so I was given a pretty cheap price that I could afford. I was informed that what I have been paying was (employee) pricing, even though this is not the case and I was not an employee when this rate was given to me. I do have the bank statements from way back then showing that I have always paid this certain price.

What I find truly distasteful is management would not tell me this themselves, even though they were in the office behind the desk, they made the young lady at the desk tell me.

I always enjoyed the ymca and their programs, but not only have they done me wrong, they have taken them away from my kids as well.

Love the instructors in all the 8am senior fitness classes. The workouts have been designed for age specific people and allow you to focus on balance , movement, strength and core and you feel so good after completing a class. Brought my 2 kids here to watch them swim. Unfortunately, we had to leave because they wanted to charge me $10 on top of the kids' fee to sit in the heat and be miserable. What a nice, newer YMCA. It feels smaller than some of the others. Maybe it just seems so because the pool is outside. On a 97 degree Sunday there is a wait to get in to the pool. Just know this.
There is a playground to pass the time. The daycare was open and super cute. The machines were great and plenty of them. The locker room was clean. Didn't look for courts. Maybe next time. Had a great work out.
