I am a smal-boned woman in her seventies with osteoporosis and scoliosis. With encouragement from my son Alex, I started attending this gym a month ago and already my lower back pain is diminishing! My coach, Caleb is patient and excellent with teaching me form. I am excited and hopeful to start something new to help me regain and keep strength. Thinking this might become a life-long habit. It is never too late to begin!

Coach Caleb makes Starting Strength Tulsa excellent. He makes sure everyone, regardless of gender or age, feels welcome & comfortable. He’s a great teacher, helping us increase strength, safely and with good form. In a short time, I’ve seen my strength improve and injuries diminish. I highly recommend booking an intro session with Caleb to see what the program has to offer.

I reached out to starting strength Tulsa after having dabbled with the starting strength method for a couple years. While I had read the book I did not feel confident that I was doing my deadlift and squat 100% correct. I did one session live and then two months online. The live session was so good and answered so many questions that I had on my form. It set me on a trajectory that I did not expect. Through the online coaching I was able to to really fine tune my form. I now feel safer and stronger in all of my lifts and I keep adding weight to the bar! Coach Caleb is a great guy and a great coach! I cannot recommend enough to reach out to them and get the process started.

I have been on-again off-again trying to work out consistently for most of my adult life. When I research the most effective ways to do so, I am always led back to barbell training on the core lifts (squat, overhead press, bench press, deadlift). And if there's one authority on mastering these lifts, it's Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength book. I read it many years ago and made good progress, but always had areas that needed improvement and would eventually hit a wall.

I came across the Starting Strength gym at 91st and Yale and went in for a free session and got awesome one on one coaching to improve my form. I signed up and have been going consistently for about 5 months now. I give these guys extremely high praise and have been blown away by the quality of the experience. Every rep of every set is coached by a certified SS coach, which is not an easy credential to get. At 37 years old, I have blown past all my personal records from my 20's.

The gym is filled with people from all age groups, including a large percentage of men and women near retirement age with the goal of maintaining mobility throughout life. One of the key members of staff/ownership has an extensive background in physical therapy and they are able to work with people where they are at on day one and make sustained progress from there.

Whether you're a young guy looking to get strong or a grandmother striving to keep up with the grandkids, I can't recommend Starting Strength Tulsa enough.

I never knew how important it is to strengthen the whole body and how a few exercises done correctly can do that! Starting Strength Gym is the best way to do that. The trainers are great and really care about their clients.

You will get stronger, you will feel better and more confidant, you will have a better life. It changed mine for the better.

Many years ago, I had heard of the Starting Strength book and Mark Rippetoe but had never taken any steps toward lifting weights using that method or any method. In fact, I’d never lifted weights. However, with a growing interest in longevity the last few years, I recognized the need for strength training to increase both my strength and stability. So, when I noticed the Starting Strength gym at 91st and Yale last summer, I took it as a sign that it was finally time to get started.

I began in late-August 2022 and have been at it three days a week for six months. Darin has been my primary coach (along with some assistance from Andrew and Aaron). They are sticklers for detail in the mechanics of the lifts and I can’t imagine participating in a lifting program without the level of professional coaching received at Starting Strength. The attention to detail in the mechanics of the lifts allows me to not only lift safely but to also lift more weight and thus get stronger faster. My progress in the last six months has been remarkable, and it is all tracked in a logbook. The numbers don’t lie. While everyone starts on the novice linear progression, there comes a time, sooner for some and later for others, when each lifter’s programing must become more complex to continue to add weight to the bar. The individualized programing by Darin is a key component to driving my continued progress. Thanks to everyone at Starting Strength Tulsa and, if you want to get stronger, there is no better place for you to do so.

I have been training here since September 2022. I had read the book but quickly realized thanks to coach Darin that I had so much to learn. The biggest benefits I have seen in coming to this gym have been the accountability from the regular 3 day/week schedule and the world class instruction from all the coaches but Darin in particular. He has been absolutely dedicated in tailoring a very specific program to effectively address my weaknesses and strengths. He makes adjustments from workout to workout and intra-workout with remarkable attention to detail. I have learned so much about the mechanics and physics of the lifts. Darin brings the “blue book” to life and puts it into practice in a way I could never have done on my own. I have gained 20 solid lbs in 5 months and more importantly gained knowledge and technique that I will use for the rest of my life. Thank you Darin, Aaron, Andrew, David and everyone involved at SS Tulsa. Could not give a higher recommendation!

I did two months at Starting Strength Tulsa and I am very happy with the results. The coaches are excellent and getting stronger improved my mental and physical health. I have knee and hip replacements and I feel and move better after being coached at Starting Strength.

Wow! What a great experience I've had at Starting Strength! I'm a 64-year-old woman determined to get stronger and protect myself from injury. I've been at Starting Strength for about 5 weeks now and thanks to my excellent coaches, I've made quite a bit of progress. The coaching staff is knowledgeable, respectful, and always able to help me modify where necessary so I can continue to improve. Starting Strength has definitely been a worthwhile investment for me!

The coaching is excellent. A coach watches all your sets and gives real-time instructions so you can make adjustments each rep to maintain proper form. The equipment is the best available.

Starting Strength is perfect for those who simply want to get stronger. Working with highly-qualified coaches you WILL see progress. Time to get off the couch, wipe the chip crumbs from your shirt, and see just what you might be capable of doing with a disciplined approach to training.

Great staff! Darin is extremely knowledgeable with the strength training program. I learned a ton the first month I was there. They also solved a light-headedness problem I was continuing to have before joining by adjusting my technique. Highly recommended.

I started at Starting Strength Tulsa about a month ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I am rapidly getting stronger with correct lifting technique. The coaches are very professional, direct, and friendly. I truly enjoy working out now, which is something I never thought I’d say!

Starting at DAY 1 Andrew and Darin took me through each lift step by step and are always there every session to make sure I stay in perfect form. Also, never underestimate the value of having someone objectively choose the amount of weight for you when you are starting out! There really is no equivalent to lifting weights under the eye of a Starting Strength Coach, the only coaching certification that TESTS the coaches — and few pass. No matter what level of experience lifting weights, you will be in the best hands possible.

You have to try this program for a few weeks at least. It will change the way you think about strength training and you will get results, guaranteed.

I went to the Squat and Deadlift camp. It was a great value and very beneficial for me. The gym is clean, organized, spacious, and has all the equipment you need. Plenty of places to eat nearby afterwards as well. This is the only gym in Tulsa I would recommend if you want to get stronger. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and committed to understanding your goals and helping you get there. This the most time efficient way to improve your physical state and has the longest lasting effects. Try this for the three months and you'll see much more benefit than you would get from a full year with personal training at another gym.

I am progressing through the Starting Strength program in my own home gym in central Kansas. I use the internet options that Starting Strength has to get feedback on my lifts, but whenever I learn any new lift I make it a point to travel the 4 1/2 hours to get in-person coaching from a Starting Strength coach because they are just that good.

I was at the point where I wanted to learn the Power Clean in order to help progress my deadlift. Well, it turns out that I am one of the relatively few who has anthropometry that does not support this lift. My forearms are long enough that the bar would hit me in the teeth if I tried it.

It took Andrew about a minute of working with me to figure this out and break the news to me and I was obviously disappointed. Not to worry, he explained, you can still do the snatch!

Now I wasn't expecting to learn this Olympic sport movement and hadn't studied it at all, but that was no problem. Andy took me through the lift over the next hour, patiently explaining and correcting until I had it right. During this process, in rest periods, we discussed everything from programming this new lift into my existing workout, to nutrition, aging, and best of all, where to find all the nastiest dive bars in Tulsa!

I really can't recommend Starting Strength gyms enough. The coaches are flat-out the best in the business; carefully selected and trained, most articulate, extremely patient, and best of all, they've all been there themselves and done all of the things they are guiding you through. The training areas are literally spotless, well organized, and absolutely focused on the task at hand.

This is the place where people who know what they're doing go to train for strength. They get people of any age and gender stronger, more quickly and safely than literally anyone else in the world can do. It's that simple. Give it a shot... you won't be disappointed.

I visited the gym with a friend and had an amazing experience! I’m 53 years old and had bilateral patellar Tendon surgery 7 years ago, I squatted today using SS method with no pain. Thanks again!

I’m a 46 year old woman with autoimmune issues that cause severe fatigue. Joined Starting Strength about a month ago and aside from feeling stronger, my energy level has gone up as well.
Andrew and Darin are extremely good coaches that explain every move and the why in an educational & motivating manner.
My teenage daughter has now joined SS and it’s wonderful to see her self confidence soar after each session.
Glad we found this place!

The facility is in top condition, very clean, and squared away. The equipment is top of the line and in great shape! During our seminar the Starting Strength Coach, Andrew, was very professional and made every aspect of learning the lifts very clear. During our lifts we received instant feedback. Andrew did a great job with not over-loading us with technical knowledge that you may find other "trainers" do at other big box gyms. The coach took into consideration our past injuries and issues and was able to work around them. Money well spent!

I have a 1993 Ski-Injury on the outside of my left knee. I know exactly what movements cause a flare up of that old injury: riding a bike or doing demi-plies in a Barre class. I was very hesitant to join Starting Strength. I was afraid I would re-injure that knee if I tried a SQUAT. I got EXTREMELY DETAILED body-mechanics instructions from the coaches. Examples: "Widen your stance just an inch." "Turn TOES OUT 1/2-inch more. Yes, right there." "Get those knees out a little wider at the bottom of squat." "Rock your weight BACK just a bit - onto your heels. Yes, now push up using your entire FOOT not weight forward in your toes." After 5 sessions, I'm now squatting more weight than I ever expected at my age . . . and I've had ZERO PAIN in that old knee injury!!!! My inner quads are a bit sore - to be expected - but both knees are doing great.

I have been working out at SS Tulsa for a couple weeks now. My experience thus far has been completely positive. The coaches are helpful and encouraging. They have also been great with helping me navigate around a couple of pre-existing medical issues/injuries while still making progress with my lifts.

I’ve read the book and watched many videos but the subtle details of having SS coaches guide your lifts is incredibly eye opening. Dave, Andrew and Darin have been beyond what I expected from coaching and Tulsa is lucky to have #17 gym now open. Cannot recommend it enough if you’re serious about health and gaining strength. There is no substitute for Starting Strength.
