While I am unfortunately not local enough to Norman to join the community at Strong Space, I had the opportunity to spend a week in their space creating a mural in the interior of the gym. In that time, I got to witness the fun-loving atmosphere during personal training sessions and group sessions and the dedication of its owners Ashley and Kate to creating a truly inclusive space anticipating the needs of its members. This is the kind of place every community needs! And if you don't go for self-care and personal growth, you should absolutely go for Sophie, the resident Strong Space pup.

Ashley is actually the best! She taught me how to lift appropriately, helped me track my progress, and never once made me do a burpee. I was never intimidated or embarrassed. I don't consider myself particularly athletic, but I always left my training sessions feeling like a baddie. The best part of working out with Ashley is that it feels like hanging out with your best friend and almost makes you forget that you're doing an intense workout. I reached my goals of being stronger and having increased stamina, and then continued to build on my goals and set new PRs. I've referred multiple friends to Ashley and they've all loved her too! Ashley was the first trainer that didn't look at my fat body and assume that I couldn't do it. She actually commented almost immediately about how strong she knew I was and helped me start training in a way that would meet my goals (move heavy stuff around and do it just as well as all the men who stared). Ashley is the best. I’m a type 1 diabetic with quite a few limitations physically and (with work) she works around that. Works with your schedule. Specializes on what you need specifically and doesn’t push you like the (shows portray) she’s so down to earth as a person it’s a friendship you build. When I first met with Ash, she described herself as the Brene Brown of trainers - and it turns out that is 100% accurate. Not only does she teach you proper form and best ways to strength train, she also encourages you and cares about the whole person. I started seeing Ashley when I felt I hit the limit of my knowledge in the gym. She got me started on barbell lifting and taught me along the way. She’s been patient with all of my questions and communicates very well. If I have any hesitation during a certain exercise, we switch it up to ensure we don’t exacerbate any pain. She pushes me when I need it but never oversteps my comfort level. She’s not just a coach, but also your friend as she cares about you not just in the gym but how you show up and what you feel capable of each day. She’s also true to her word — I have never been asked to do a burpee! Training with Ashley has been a huge positive in my life and I now feel confident in the gym with or without her.

My biggest challenge before training with Ashley was definitely knowledge - I'm a smart, intelligent guy. I learn things quickly - but with something as physical and potentially injurious as lifting weights, I absolutely couldn't wrap my head around it. I was inactive with fear of doing the wrong thing, and hurting myself. And I felt dumb - I'm used to being able to research something, and gaining a familiarity with it, then improving from there. But with lifting, I could not bring myself to even start.
As soon as I met with Ashley, I felt like I was in the right place. I went from "I cannot possibly do this, I cannot seem to learn this" to "This will take time, but I can get it". I truthfully went from a fixed to a growth mindset in the very first session. It wasn't just the big things either - those were trained superbly, but also the tiny things like sitting down in a slow controlled fashion instead of flopping down on a chair. It wasn't too long before I noticed a big change, both physically in definition, and in my ability to haul around giant containers of cat litter. The results weren't just cosmetic - they specifically enhanced areas of my everyday life.
If you're on the fence - or if you're like me, and you're WAY on the other side of the fence, and look at the fence as an impossible obstacle... take the advice of the person who knows about the fence, about getting over the fence, about what's on the other side of the fence, about how to get you there. Ashley is smart, kind, compassionate, fun - and also incredibly savvy about what movements to do, and how to do them. Give it a shot.

I wanted to improve my powerlifting form over winter break, and Ashley was the perfect trainer to help me reach my goals. In addition to fixing my form and giving me the confidence to increase my lifts, it was fun and effortless to chat with her between sets. At our last session, we also worked to create a healthy mindset for long-term fitness - something that I truly appreciate. I can't recommend Ashley enough, as a trainer and as an awesome person!

I research many trainers in my search for a good trainer and heard about Ashley from other people. After first meeting her and telling her my story of having to relearn how to walk, talk, and eat. I felt she understood my situation and could tailor he training to my situation in a safe way. After the first few sessions she was cognizant of my limitations, that are in my head and physically. After a couple of months seeing her, she is very positive, motivating, and will get you to do things I didn’t Believe I could do and helped me get out of my own head. Also I feel comfortable going to the gym. She has helped me more than I can put into words. She always checks in and make sure you are doing Okay, genuinely cares about you as a person, and make sure your technic is correct and safe. I can’t thank her enough for how she has helped me. I would highly recommend her to anyone new or goes to the gym regularly.

I've trained with Ashley for over a year now, and I could not be happier. Not only is she a great coach at the gym, she's always checking in to see how you're doing and genuinely cares about you as a person.
I came to Ashley after breaking my ankle at a chain group fitness class. Concerned about my injury and other past injuries, Ashley closely watches your form to make sure you are lifting or performing certain moves properly. I've been able to train with her through various injuries and still get an amazing workout. I've become so much stronger in the last year and am able to do moves or lift in ways I never thought possible. She tailors the sessions to your needs and is a great motivator. Even when gyms were shut down, she made sure I got my training in and would write workouts I could do from home and continued to check in. She doesn't just look at you as a client to get in and out in an hour session. She is with you from day one.

Ashley is amazing! I was truly a beginner when I walked in to meet her. I could barely hold any weights without almost passing out, and she didn't judge me or make me feel intimidated at all. I am a stubborn and unmotivated individual. With that being said I was reluctant to put my trust in a trainer to help me lose weight. I have had multiple trainers in the past and none of them have been as amazing as Ashley Day! She really focuses the work outs to what works well for my body and what will work best for my goals. She pushes me as hard as I can go, further than I would push myself. She mixes up the work outs often so I never feel bored with what we are doing! Ashley really knows her stuff and she's always watching me to make sure I am doing everything properly so I don't hurt myself and I gain the most out of the work out! She also gives me work outs to do when I am not with her!

If your goal is to lose weight and/or gain strength, Ashley will give you the direction, motivation, and knowledge to achieve your goals. She helped me improve my form to lift heavier on bench, squat, and deadlift. As well as helping me with a diet plan resulting in a 30lb weight loss in 3 months!

Ashley is amazing! Not only does she know her stuff but she makes it fun. She will make you work and you will probably be sore the next day but it will be worth it. It's hard to find someone that truly knows what it is like to be on the journey to lose weight and the daily struggles that it comes with. Ashley does and she is not shy about being honest with you. She will motivate you when you think you don't have any more left, she will help you stay accountable to yourself and she will help you realize how truly strong you are. I highly recommend her :)
