I’ve been training at Above the Barr for about 6 months and going strong! I’ve always had trouble sticking with a workout routine, but Jaime has created a fun, comfortable and welcoming environment that makes me want to keep coming back. The true differentiator is that he really cares about me and my health goals. He develops a workout plan to meet you where you are and is consistently checking in about how your body is feeling before, during and after the workout so he can make any adjustments. Jaime has found the perfect balance of challenging me to push myself, while also knowing when to pump the brakes and take it easy. At Above The Barr it’s not about lifting as heavy as you can all the time, it’s about gradually building strength and making progress.

People of all shapes and sizes workout here and I’ve seen Jaime provide workout plans catered to each individuals needs. We often workout in small groups of 2-4 people, so it has been really fun getting to know people and make some new friends. It is a very welcoming and supportive community that I’m excited and proud to be a part of. If you’re lucky, you might even get served a cup of coffee with your morning workout. I've been working with Jaime for 7 months now, and I couldn't be more impressed with the results and the experience. My friend recommended him, and I'm so grateful they did! What I love most about working with Jaime is his ability to tailor the workouts to my needs and schedule. I have been training with Jaime since August 2024. I got the recommendation from one of his clients, since I was curious about personal training but not sure where to start. I met him, did a physical assessment, and then set up a 2/week routine. After two months I liked it so much I increased to 3/week. Since 2016 I have had 3 kids and I work full time, so fitting in exercise is hard. With the work I have done with Jaime I have already improved physical strength and have been experiencing the psychological benefits of regular exercise. Additionally, the strength training has helped reduce symptoms of past injuries (likely all from pregnancy). I’m so glad to have found Jaime- I feel is program is accessible to many kids of people and would recommend him to anyone looking to improve their physical routine and stay fit in life.

Go see him! I experienced back, hip and groin issues for years before I was referred to Jamie. He put me through an assessment and let me know right away what his plan was to help me alleviate my issues. Its amazing how much less pain I am in now that I've been working out there. These are issues I have had for years and he has help me build up my core in ways that helped me get rid of the pain. While I'm sure he can help folks build serious muscle, he has been more of a conditioning coach for me, helping me solve my pain points and build flexibility. He really can tailor the training for your specific needs. I highly recommend!

This is not your cookie cutter 24 hour fitness or LA fitness personal training. Here you are not just a number to a corporation, with a trainer who's looking to just fill the hour with things that might hurt yourself. Jaime at Above The Barr, truly listens to you and your body. Assesses your body, observes and sees where you body state is at, the limitations, the tightness/mobility, and what parts need the more TLC. He has a plan, and it's all about foundation..slow, core foundational building. He asks how are you feeling that given day, if there is something wrong with an area or body part that day, he'll adjust and modify the plans. That's what I like the most, he listens and cares...and I used to be in the gym 5 days a week, deadlifting 330 and squat 225. 7 years later of zero exercising, and starting with Jaime, we know my body can't jump right back to that. Slowly but surely we will, with a good core and building my way back properly to the level...is what Above the Barr is all about. His background speaks for itself, I feel comfortable here. At ATB, I'm not being led into a 90 day promise, where too fast-my body could get some significant injuries, and say we reach that 90 day program (then what?), done here's your certificate/award. NO...ATB is a life change, we go beyond these 90 day programs.

I've been working out with Jaime on and off for the last 3 years. Jaime is very knowledgeable and work around your specific needs. I was diagnosed with ATC and a couple months after starting my program, I felt so much better and my mobility improved month after month. I have been working with Jaime for 3 years. When I first started, I came to him with extreme lower back pain and limited mobility. He analyzed my situation and gave me a program that was individualized to my needs and motions. If I voice any discomfort, he quickly addresses it and gives me a movement that works for me. Since then, I have gained strength, increased my mobility and am able to move more than I thought I was capable of doing, especially 3 years ago. I can do simple tasks like, carry more groceries, carry my nieces/nephews, move furniture, do yard work, etc. without any pain the next day.
In addition, I began his individualized nutrition program. His nutrition programs are specialized to cater towards my needs, habits, self-talks, and foods I like... yes, I can eat what I enjoy AND lose weight! Since working with him, I have lost 6lbs in 4 weeks all while still enjoying food and a social life (no more yo-yo diets. I have it all!). He has given me sustainable and attainable systems to implement into my every day life which has been resulted in more energy throughout the day, less guilt, and a healthy and realistic relationship with food and my body!

I have been training with Jaime for over a year and I feel so much stronger and have much better mobility. I have chronic injuries from car accidents and have always been nervous about strength training. Jaime adapts my program to my physical abilities and modifies exercises based on how your body is feeling that training session. I have always had the mentality "no pain, no gain" but spending over a year with Above the Barr has taught me that consistency and learning the building blocks is the key in sustainable training. I have never been this consistent with strength training and it has paid off! It has also allowed me to participate in other activities like dancing without additional pain. I've been working out with Jaime for years and love it! He is attentive to my physical limitations and needs. He pushes me to try a little harder when i think I've reached my limit, but also makes sure i don't push myself too hard , giving my body enough time to adapt to the exercise.
While working with him, I have seen my body transform and get stronger past what i thought was possible. When exercises don't feel comfortable he provides alternatives. He also provides a balanced mix of endurance with strength gaining sessions which all build on each other, helping my body get stronger.

He customizes your program based on what is important to you and your objectives. You'll build fundamental techniques and form first to ensure you are doing each exercise correctly and safely.

Jaime really listens to you. He'll encourage you to increase your efforts and if your body is stressed with any of the movements, he'll immediately help you to modify the movement to prevent injury.

Working out in his gym is very comfortable, non-intimidating and a very supportive environment.

Aloha !
I was struggling getting back into shape and writing my own workouts became close to impossible with a little one needing my 100% attention at all times. My sister was telling about how Jaime really motivates her and she’s in top top shape so I decided to give Jaime a try too.

I’ve been working with him for about 3 months now and I’ve lost some weight and became stronger. The best part about it though is that he made a plan that works really well with my busy mom life and he also makes time for one on one video chats to make sure I’m on track and to give me that extra push if I ever needed one even though we live in different time zones he always make time for our video chats.

Above the Barr Personal Training Rocks! I have been working out with Jaime for a little over 3 years now and in that time I have learned so much about how to keep my body working through movement and nutrition. My main goal when I started working out was to feel and be stronger. The coaching that Jaime has provided I have become stronger in mind and body.
He is able to individualize my workout to my goals and what my body can do. I am consistently challenged and never bored. When I moved out of the Portland Area Jaime and I were quickly able to pivot my workouts to remote. We use an app to track my workouts and meet weekly over face time to discuss my progress and next steps. He is also helping me acclimate to a larger gym atmosphere which I was not used to. Working out with Jaime is one of my favorite parts of the week. I always leave feeling tired yet energized! He cultivates a welcoming and enjoyable environment to work out in. One aspect I really appreciate about the programs that Jaime designs is their focus on functionality and making sure the exercises are helping me get stronger in my daily life, not just in the context of lifting. He also is very responsive about changing the focus of his programs to accommodate shifts in my fitness or health goals. I've been working out with Jaime for the last 3 years and it has truly been life changing. I could not recommend him and the services he offers highly enough. At first, it was just something I was trying out, unsure of where it would go. I always had certain fitness goals like losing fat and building muscle, but never really pursued them consistently. Above the Barr is the first time I've stuck to my goals, and that's all because of Jaime and the results I'm seeing.

What makes Jaime different than any gyms or personal trainers I tried before is first and foremost his knowledge. Jaime has a top level of education and experience in the field. He understands human body mechanics as they relate to fitness and movement incredibly well, and is always prepared to make a useful adjustment in any of my sets. I've learned countless new exercises, improved my form, and gained valuable confidence that I could try these things on my own anywhere else.

The second thing that stands out is the feeling of community. Unlike other personal trainers, Above The Barr feels like a community and is fun to attend every time. You might work out at the same as two other people at most, but they become people that you get to know and whose progress you also support. I personally think that's great. Overall too, Jaime creates a community that feels rooted in support and growth, whatever one's goals are.

This brings me to the most important thing, results. Since working out with Jaime, I've become stronger, more flexible, more confident and overall healthier. That's what it's all about!!

Jaime is a phenomenal trainer and the Above the Barr community is so great! I started training with Jaime about 5 years ago, and enjoyed training with him so much that I made the move to Above the Barr when it started up in 2021.

When I met Jaime, I had never done any strength training before; I felt uncomfortable and out of place in a gym. In my early training sessions with him, he took the time to adjust the workouts to meet me where I was at, helping me build a strong foundation of movements, endurance, and self-confidence. He always encourages working within your limits and comfort level, but also knows when to push those limits when you're ready but maybe haven't realized it yet yourself. His training programs are individualized and thoughtful, structured to help you make and measure progress over time to work towards your personal goals.

Now, I can do things I never could before: I can deadlift and front squat more than my bodyweight, and I can do unassisted bodyweight chin-ups and push-ups. I've also noticed differences in everyday life: I can hike farther and longer, I can lift heavier things without as much fatigue, and I have more energy. But perhaps most importantly, I feel more confident in myself and have unlocked strength I didn't know I had. I couldn't have done it without Jaime and his awesome training at Above the Barr!

I go to Jaimes MRT classes every week. I also work out on my own. Jaime has really helped show me workouts and techniques I can take in to my workouts outside of his gym. If you are trying to improve your form or intensity he is a good guy to see. Also great at working with beginners like myself who are getting back into a regular fitness routine. If you feel embarrassed on going to work out he is a good guy to work with. He works with all types of athletes so he does a great job at adjusting to who he works with.
