I'm a 46-year-old former college athlete whose fitness life has been up and down the past 10 years. It was time to get back in shape, but I was struggling to find motivation on my own.

I was skeptical of online training as I feared I wouldn't get the attention I was looking for. After 2 months of working out with Robert, I can safely say that Robert has the online space figured out. My workouts do not suffer one bit from being online with Robert.

His close attention to form is keeping me more pain-free than I have ever been while working out. Being in the comfort of my own backyard, I can commit to Robert's program for the long term. I’ve been working with Robert for about 3 months now (and counting). Robert has been the best personal trainer I’ve had the pleasure to work with. He works with my schedule, with my location preferrence and my goal in mind. We don’t need much equipment to get started and the workout keeps on evolving to keep it fresh and challenging and work towards my goal. He also teach me what I’m supposed to feel in what part or the muscle which I think is the biggest challenge when doing virtual work out and at the same time educating me on the why we’re doing this exercise. He keeps my form correct, removes the barrier of working out and maximize the result. I’m looking forward to work with Robert long term to keep a healthy life.

Robert is absolutely amazing. I was looking for a physical therapist to help unravel my muscle tension from the waist up that I have developed over the last decade of spending 8 - 16 hours a day at a computer. Within 2 sessions I was already seeing benefits and changes in my body and how I moved it. I'm writing this review after one month of training and it's a night and day difference in the health aspects that I was hoping to tackle through targeted work outs. Primarily I started this journey so I could sleep better because I could not comfortably sleep on my back or really any position anymore due to some of my crammed shoulder and spine posture. While my sleeping problems aren't solved, I can say the aspect of it that is related to me physically being uncomfortable at night has greatly improved, I really didn't expect to feel these changes in one month.

This is my first experience doing online personal training as well; I was skeptical that he would not be able to glean enough information over the poor video quality / meeting location options I have in my current residence. Even with some of the unique challenges I have had in that regard he still sees and catches plenty of information, and crafts excellent workout plans to suite my needs.

I'll spend just a moment now talking about some of my past workout and fitness history to give some reference of the general experience level I came into this with. I was always decently active for a nerd lol; I grew up doing things like mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, hiking. I have trained multiple martial arts, benched up to 185lbs (above my body weight), and done many different workouts.

It was incredible to me how easily Robert was able to highlight holes in my form, and find such perfect, simple, foundational movements to start training and challenging me with. For example we tried a push up plank esque workout (different and more targeted than I have ever done) and to my disbelief I was feeling pressure on my knees from my body trying to compensate and we went down to an easier form, now today I was able to do that same workout I wasn't able to 2 weeks ago.

I could go on about how great Robert is. He is truly my favorite personal trainer I have worked with, 10/10 recommend him.

My wife and I have had a month of sessions with Robert and are already feeling the improvements in core strength. He has tailored the workouts for each of us, recognizing the needs to adapt and work with and around our past injuries. Remote training is something I was extremely skeptical about, but it's actually really really convenient to be able to have a 1:1 session (caterer to the equipment I have available) in my pocket.

On top of the training Robert has taken very keen notes and attention to my previous injuries and pain feedback to keep me feeling safe and productive.

I've known Robert for the better part of a decade now, but only recently started to capitalize on his availability through Altvater Fitness. I'm really glad that I did!

In these 10 years my formerly reasonably fit self has gotten older, softer, more sedentary, and had a ton of issues with back, joint, and tissue in various places. I started working with Robert a few months ago because I wanted to get back into exercising and strengthen my body to prevent another back injury. I’ve dabbled in exercise over the last few years, including working with a different trainer, and never stuck with anything for more than a couple of weeks until now. Altvater Fitness has be a great asset to me I was looking for a program that would help me in my movement and exercise. Prior to finding Altvater Fitness my movement was limited. I was suffering from stiff shoulder and neuropathy and using a cane to balance my walking so each day was a struggle then while looking on Face book I found Robert and started chatting with him and found that he owned and managed Altvater Fitness and Movement, so we chatted, and I told him of my goal to be more stable in movement and to eat better in order to lose weight and feel better

So, I finally decided to use Robert to help me work toward my goal and so he set up a movement and nutritional plan that was focused for me. It had a daily menu with good, cooked food and easily made. It helped me to cut out fast foods which was a major portion of my life, and it has help me to lose weight (over 30 lbs. so far).

Robert's training and guidance has been an asset to me in that it has help me to stay focused and encouraged to maintain the total goal. Robert is very supportive in his client's progress. Robert's knowledge and willingness to do the right thing makes him an excellent trainer and someone who can be trusted to help you improve movement, your nutritional outlook and give you the support to achieve the goals you want. I have been working out with Robert at various gyms for over 5 years. My wife joined me when the gyms closed down at the beginning of the pandemic and we have been remote for almost 2 years. What I've enjoyed most about working with Robert has been the variety and the instruction. He's very good at providing a variety of exercises that are tailored to you, and when you have your sessions together he also provides great instruction on form.

When I came to him, I was working out on my own most days, but I would often strain or hurt myself over time. When we began working together, Robert showed me some stretches and other techniques to help alleviate that pain. Over weeks, he also specifically chose exercises that would help build strength in weak areas and comport with my desk-bound work-life. I'm happy to report that those strains and pains I felt before are now completely gone. When I work out on my own, I do so for longer, and harder.

I've worked with Robert for years now, and have come to count on our sessions to keep my body working. As someone with fibromyalgia and other chronic health issues, staying active is crucial to my quality of life. Robert does more than just get me moving/help me with my workouts. He keeps track of what I've had trouble with before, asks how my body is doing at the start of workouts, plans ahead to prevent injuries, and includes stability and strengthening exercises.

I definitely recommend Altvater Fitness and Movement! Robert's program differs from other plans because his plans really are customized and designed for you.

I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and my doctor recommended I go on a full auto-immune protocol diet with additional restrictions. I didn't know where to start. With all the information on the internet I just kept searching and I was getting overwhelmed by how intense this was going to be. My doctor recommended a full plant based diet with no gluten, no wheat, no soy, no sesame, no nightshade vegetables (I didn't even know what that meant). I wasn't sure if Robert would even be able to help. But after our free consultation, he was very knowledgeable, very detailed about what our plan would look like, and what I could expect. As restrictive as my diet is, he still took into consideration all of the foods I do not like and how I can incorporate this into a lifestyle and not a temporary fad. Anyone that knows me, knows I do not cook. I do not like to cook. But with Robert's guidance I have been having so much fun making these different recipes I would have never thought to try! For me, it wasn't about losing weight although I've lost 23lbs. It was about creating healthier habits to improve my way of living.

Robert has been giving me nutritional coaching for 2 months now and I've felt a significant improvement with my health. He is definitely the first person I have in mind once I start strength training.

I've been working with Robert weekly for a little over a month now and have had a great experience. I came to him to help tone up prior to my wedding, as well as hone my strength as an athlete. I've always enjoyed running and cardio, but have a very hard time motivating myself to do strength training, and every attempt quickly led to me hating it and turning back to my comfort zone. When I came to Robert I told him that I wanted to find a way to make strength training enjoyable. Robert was confident that we could meet my goals and gave a very detailed plan as to how we could do so, including video demos of every exercise and access to a variety of plans based on what I want to work on. Our virtual sessions have been extremely encouraging, and Robert knows how to push you towards your goals but also keep things lighthearted and fun. Because of his background in corrective exercise, he's also great at coming up with alternative exercises if something causes any discomfort. He's helped me find a healthier relationship with exercise, and I've already noticed some big changes in my body so I know our hard work is paying off!

Because I've always been a pretty active person, I hesitated when it came to hiring a personal trainer, thinking that I could just put the work in myself. Since I've never been able to find a way to keep myself interested in strength training, I decided to reach out to Robert and he's given me the push I need to find ways to enjoy things other than cardio! Most of the exercises he's given me require no equipment and can be done without a huge amount of space, and I can replicate them on my own pretty easily. Robert does a great job of checking in regularly and reviewing how my week has been at every session, and really knows how to put together the whole picture of health.

I would recommend Robert to anyone who is thinking about getting active but not sure where to start. I've trained with him in person and now remotely. Having a personal trainer means the exercises are adjusted according to my needs. Robert's program rotates through different workouts, keeping it interesting. You don’t necessarily need the weights at home to workout with Robert. The workouts will make you sweat even they are just body-weight exercises. Overall, I enjoyed his program a lot liked his focus on building a strong core and increasing agility.

I've been working with Altvater Fitness and Movement for a few months now and have a few goals that I'm working towards. My primary goal is to build better exercise and eating habits that will serve me long-term by giving me a greater quality and longevity of life. Sometimes I think of this goal as "losing weight" but that doesn't capture it appropriately as I've made unhealthy decisions in the past when targeting weight loss and have never kept the weight off. My secondary goal is to improve my posture and address some neck issues that I've developed from many years at a desk in front of a computer.

In high school I competed in sports and in college I frequented the gym with workout buddies which helped me stay in shape despite eating copious junk food. Since college, however, I've joined gyms and bought home exercise equipment but have failed to form any consistent habits with them. Without a coach or a workout buddy I find that I can easily find a reason to skip a workout, then two workouts, and so on until I haven't worked out in months. While I'm aware of these bad exercise and eating habits, I've assumed that I could make changes "when the time came" or "before it gets too bad" but I always found an excuse to push that time off. My advice to anyone who has had a similar experience or has similar goals to these are 1) be honest with yourself about whether your current habits will achieve your goals and 2) if you want to find a reason to push off working towards your goals you'll always manage to find one - no day will be the perfect first day to start so there's no time like the present.

Altvater Fitness and Movement has helped me immensely in working towards my goals and building the right habits. Robert does a great job tailoring a workout program to suit me individually for where I'm at and what my goals are while taking into account the fitness equipment I have at my disposal. He has also been awesome at working with me on my broader food choices and keeps me accountable to ensure I'm building the food habits that I need long term. During a workout, Robert breaks down the components of each exercise to teach me the proper technique and explains how each piece fits into the particular phase of a program I'm in and how it fits into my larger goals. He makes small adjustments to workouts to address any muscle or joint issues I'm dealing with and keeps the challenge up and keeps me progressing without being a drill sergeant. On top of all that, Robert is a fun and enjoyable person to talk with and even though every workout is tough I have a great time working with him.

I have been a client of Roberts since October of 2020. He is always very professional and understanding, and helpful. My goal when I signed up was to tone up and to feel better about myself. This was important to me as I have had back and neck surgery which sometimes limits my mobility. I have tried every diet that is known to man with little success. Robert encourages me to stick with exercising even when I don’t want to. I always had good intentions to start exercising but I always found excuses to quit. Robert makes it enjoyable to exercise. He never criticizes or loses his patients with me when I need to be shown how to do something more than once. The challenges I have overcome is that I am able to climb 4 flights of stairs without too much effort. Robert is very knowledgeable about physical fitness as well as nutrition.
