Stylian is super helpful, knowledgeable and it is evident that he is very passionate about the vision of this facility and the programs that they run here. He is very personable and very articulate with every answer to the questions I had about the programs and the coaching. You can tell he enjoys what he does and is passionate about encouraging and raising the youths that attend here.

They canceled the homeschool PE class without notifying the people that paid. We had to show up with our 7 year old daughter only to find a empty dark building, you can only imagine how my daughter felt. Shame on you. The facility and grounds are not well kept and dingy looking. We canceled our membership and we will be going to Tualatin Parks and Rec.

Irs a good place to play basketball. No pool and an okay weight room! If youre visiting and this is the Y you're going to be using. Its got what you need, but its nothing special. 25 minutes away at Clark County might be a better bet.

My family has been participating in basketball with the YMCA since 2010, with my youngest having played the last 3-4 years consistently. We have really enjoyed our experience with YMCA. Specifically, we enjoy working with Stilyan Slavov. He always addresses our concerns promptly, listens to our feedback, and has been very flexible and helpful with us whenever weβve had a unique circumstance come up. He does a great job running a massive program with a ton of moving parts. His communication is excellent and as a parent with a lot going on I truly appreciate that.
This current season my son was βrecruitedβ by a Coach during his last game of last season, Dave Lund or βCoach Dβ and we could not be happier about that. Coach D is the perfect combination you want to see in a Coach; loving, yet stern, supportive, yet firm. He is developing great players all while teaching them how to be great humans in the meantime. The improvement Iβve seen in my son has truly shocked me. I am hopeful we can continue working with him in future seasons.
All in all, I highly recommend YMCA Hoop as a great program for your children.

Facility is pretty good but parking is entirely inadequate when games are happening making it borderline dangerous. The youth rec league is not designed with less experienced players in mind, which is unfortunate for kids looking to learn the game. I would look elsewhere unless you have a kid who plays year round.

Our son has played in the youth basketball league for two years now and really enjoys it. The league has several connections to events like Blazers games that give the kids a really cool opportunity. Pros:
β’ Six courts available
Cons:
β’ Poor parking situation
β’ Dirty bathrooms
β’ Cramped seating
β’ Courts too close together, making whistles confusing
β’ Disinterested high school referees
β’ Paid βcoachesβ who donβt commit or actually coach
β’ Organizational issues
Worst of all, the organizers don't return emails or reply with solutions or open communication. If you read through the reviews from nearly 10 years ago, you'll see there hasn't been much improvement in the parking, cleanliness of bathrooms, or organization of the leagues.
This review focuses on the basketball leagues at this YMCA location. My son has participated in recreational and developmental leagues for a few years.
Recreational League:
The rec league is fine if your child wants to play for fun. Thereβs only one practice per week, and coaches serve more as facilitators than actual instructors. While there were occasional last-minute schedule changes and canceled practices, it was an overall decent experience.
However, the high school referees often seemed uninterested, and one horrible experience involved our team facing what was essentially a club team. Not only did they dominate, but they also trash-talked our kids throughout and after the gameβcompletely unnecessary.
Developmental League:
This league, unfortunately, has been a significant disappointment. It costs more than the rec league, has paid coaches and referees, and offers two practices per week, supposedly to help kids transition into club basketball.
The season starts with a βskill evaluationβ meant to create balanced teams, but in reality, many teams are pre-formed βclubβ teams playing in the developmental league. This results in a few highly skilled teams dominating while other teamsβthrown together with leftover playersβstruggle. My sonβs team has lost every game by 30+ points.
Worse, the coaching has been unreliable.

Heather is in charge of the homeschool physical education classes and adult exercise programs. She has been an incredible resource for our family. We originally showed up to try out the homeschool PE days and was warmly welcomed. My son was able to hop right into the group that day and had a fantastic time in the playground games class. He really enjoyed the playful nature of games and the easy-going coaches and has been able to make connections with the other kids.
Heather has created an environment that is incredibly supportive and responsive the needs of my family and has been checking in with us for input. Heather managed to create a feeling of community.
Because of her encouragement, I added a much needed "Roll and release" class (for adults) on the weekend. This class is relaxing and it's helping to reduce my pain and tightness. She is able to provide lots of adaptive solutions to movements which makes the class very accessible. Heather is clearly educated and passionate on the topic of fascia and techniques to restore function. She has been providing examples from her research--this makes going to class really exciting and motivating and I'm getting a lot out of it.
More classes are being added and I encourage everyone to come check it out. It's a pretty cool campus.

Just wanted to thank Stilyan Slavov for all his efforts with the Beaverton youth YMCA Basketball. I have had an excellent experience with the basketball program at the YMCA, largely thanks to Stilvan. He does an outstanding job running the program, making sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. His dedication and leadership are evident in how organized and engaging each session is.
Stilvan is always willing to offer support, whether itβs answering questions or giving guidance to players, and his positive attitude creates a welcoming environment for everyone involved. The program itself is well-structured, offering great opportunities for players to improve their skills while having fun.
If youβre looking for a fantastic basketball program, I highly recommend this particular YMCA for youth sports. The staff and coaches passion for the sport and commitment to the participants really stand out!

We are starting our fourth year with the Beaverton YMCA basketball program for both of my sons, aged 10 and 8. My boys and I are very happy with this program, which has significantly improved their skills, taught them teamwork, and built their confidence on the court.
A big thank you to Stilyan for making it all happen. He organizes everything smoothly and ensures that all the kids get whatever they need, both during and outside of practice. We are so fortunate to have someone like him taking care of this program.
We are looking forward to the winter 2025 season.

My child has been part of the Beaverton YMCA youth basketball program for a few seasons, and we couldnβt be more impressed with the experience! After being a part of other programs in the Beaverton, Hillsboro, West Portland region, i notice that the Beaverton YMCA program is not just about teaching basketball skills but also about fostering teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship.
A huge shoutout to the youth director, Stilyan, for his incredible enthusiasm and dedication. He goes above and beyond in organizing everything smoothly and always makes sure the kids feel supported and excited to participate. Stilyanβs initiativesβwhether one off boot camps or extra practices β have truly helped my child develop both as a player and as a person. His energy is infectious, and it's clear that he cares deeply about every childβs success, both on and off the court.
I highly recommend this program to any parent looking to get their kids involved in a positive, well-run, and encouraging basketball environment. Thank you, Stilyan, and the entire YMCA team!

We are so excited for the Beaverton YMCAβs basketball program. My son is thoroughly enjoying and growing in the Development League. Stilyan Slavov has been phenomenal to work with. Our coach, Chris Haven is fantastic. Stilyan listened intently to what we needed in a coach and was spot on with pairing us with Coach Chris. The offerings of additional programs and opportunities are amazing. And Stilyan continues to come to the games, remains available to the kids and the parents, and supports the coaches throughout the programs as well.
We are incredibly grateful for this program and the people who are working to make it and keep it awesome!

We were at Beaverton YMCA for the weekend for a youth basketball tournament. Upon arriving back home on Sunday night up in WA, we realized our younger son had removed a smaller bag that my wallet was in from my backpack. First thing Monday morning I called and spoke with Beaverton YMCA and the kindest lady said her son had found my bag on Sunday evening while cleaning up the gym and because it contained a wallet he locked it in their safe. She also advised he had attempted to look up to see if I was a member in order to contact me. It was such a relief to know it was found, but even more refreshing to know that someone took the time to attempt to locate me and also lock up the contents safely.

My daughter has been playing the coed 1st/2nd grade basketball league at YMCA Beaverton. The league is super organized, provides jerseys, and always has back up jerseys for kids who for get theirs at home. The game rules are age appropriate and there are plenty of spare basketballs to practice with.
And the BEST part of YMCA Beaverton is the league coordinator: Stilyan Slavov. I have coached for the league and he is always prompt at responding, super helpful, and always available by cell. Before games are published, he tries his best to avoid any other game timing conflicts with siblings, which makes the coaching so convenient. Big thank you to YMCA and especially Stilyan for making the experience great for players and coaches!

We are so happy we found the Beaverton YMCA two years ago. Our boys knew they wanted to play basketball, and this is the perfect place for all levels. Bonus while the kids practice Mom and Dad can work out upstairs. Stilyan has been great to work with on where to place the boys for their skill level. His honesty and kindness go a long way. Both boys have really enjoyed Coach Chris and his work ethic. He can have fun and be a big kid but also train and teach them the skills they need for their age. Highly recommend!

My son just finished participating in the Winter developmental basketball season at the Hoop. It was our first time signing up for basketball at the hoop and he had a blast. The organization was amazing. Stilyan (the organizer) did a great job communicating with frequent texts and email about matchups or any difficulties in scheduling. He responded to emails quickly and was able to accommodate my son to the time slot of our preference. Overall, this was a great experience that I would highly recommend.

I've coached boys youth recreational basketball with the YMCA the past 2 years and highly recommend it for kids looking to try basketball out or continue to play on a team. The Hoop location and OES are great facilities for games and practices. They offer a full hour practice on a separate day and a game which is perfect when teaching young kids developmental skills in basketball.
Stilyan did an excellent job with the communication and organization throughout the season! The refs made sure that the rules were followed and made calls based on individual abilities. They also were excited and having fun with the kids!

I think the pricing is outstanding. My child gets out of school at 3pm and to go to a program at YMCA itβs close to $800 per month $765 to be exact just to be there for two hours. As a single parent this is just unrealistic and outrageous. That is literally half of rent. That is just after/before school childcare! After that I didnβt even look any further into any sports/activity programs. I thought the YMCA was supposed to be affordable at these prices they are not.

Out visiting family and watching amazing kids play basketball with an excellent coaching staff. My nephew plays for Coach John. Coaches here are so empowering and uplifting their coaching style makes a difference in the lives of all kids and connect positively with everyone. Teaching young athletes how to win with grace and pride is so special to watch. When I move to Oregon, we will certainly go to Beaverton Hoop! Last weekend we heard some ridiculous parents complaining about their kids losing. What are winning teams supposed to do-not win and apologize for competing?! Itβs so important for children to understand the importance of hard work and the benefits of resilience and never to be quitters. Certainly impressed with the teams coming out of Beaverton hoop who learn how to be solid powerful athletes at such an early age. Thank you Beaverton Hoop!

My son plays youth basketball on a 4th/5th grade team. They just had a game against one of the Hoop teams and lost by about 50 points. The coach of the Hoop team had her kids running a half court trapping defense and leaking out for fast break layups right up until the end of the game. For a place with signs everywhere preaching their values of sportsmanship and good character, they clearly don't practice what they're preaching. Running up a score on a bunch of 9 and 10-year-olds is pathetic.

Went there for my daughter's gymnastics meet.. Rose City Challenge. Impressed with the facility, the host metro gymnastics center. And the UW (Huskies) gymnasts who came to help with keeping score..

I refuse to pay to watch 9 year olds play basketball and park a half mile away is rubbing salt in the wound.

Always pleasant to come home. I've been visiting the hoops, Salem, Beaverton and Vancouver since day one. I've officiated some really good basketball and some bad attitudes. Staff is always helpful and at hand. good job Hoop Staff, keep up the great work. In the spirit of the game.

Never enough parking and they cram to many people at a time here for the amount of places for people to sit.

Nice BB gym. Not enough parking, be prepared to park offsite and walk if it's midday on the weekend.

My daughter had a great time playing here. It is hard to find youth basketball in the Portland area (prior to middle school). If you are looking for an everybody gets a first place ribbon for winning a double dribble contest, this is not it. However, hard working and excited kids will acquire some actual skill here.

Review is for the CJ McCollum basketball camp, my son had such a great time! CJ really spent a lot of time with the kids and is such a good, positive influence for them. I hope he'll do it again next summer, we'll be there!
