I have been in this gym for several years. I bring my children here for swimming lessons. I have two children now. The older one also has Jiu-Jitsu lessons. He will have basketball lessons in the future. When I lived in the west, I also insisted on coming to this gym because their employees are very good, except for a few. Everyone has bad days. I think I will stay here for many years until the children don't need it. It is a place worth recommending

I love swimming and it’s one of the reasons that I joined Courthouse gyms. Courthouse West respects pool etiquette and has the pool lanes reserved for swimmers. This battle CREEK Courthouse doesn’t seem to care. This is the third time I’ve walked out because there were children, jumping in and out of the Swimming lanes, a father, throwing his ball with kids in the middle of the lanes. There is a side pool for all that activities. I am not coming back.

What a fabulous place! I use a walker when I’m outside the home because of a life-altering MS flare in 2019 - but no one has made me feel out of place.
There’s a great variety of equipment that I can utilize, and as I grow stronger, I hope I’ll be able to use more.
The Club is clean and well taken care of. The bouncy floor in the entry sitting area is like an eccentric aunt; unexpected and thrilling to visit in a weird way.

The coffee shop - I’ve only had regular coffee with half-n-half, and I’m no coffee aficionado, but it’s a delicious cup of coffee! I bring my own sweetener because Stevia leaves a foul aftertaste; just because humans want every natural resource to mimic another… no, just no.

THE STAFF: throughout my life I’ve been a member of several gyms. The staff here are *hands down* the best I’ve ever encountered! They’re friendly, encouraging, knowledgeable - if they don’t know something, they ask someone else until they get an answer for me.
My thanks and five stars to the staff I’ve interacted with so far: Morgan, Michael, Vance, and Avery. 🤟🏻🙌🏻🤗. Amazing dedication to the Club and to ME. Michael and Vance went to a lot of effort in different ways to assist me. And didn’t make me feel like I was a nuisance. Well, I never.

The only gym staff as good as these lot was Jason, at Gold’s gym in downtown Salem, 27 years ago. And I’ve been to many gyms since then. (Hope he’s doing well.)

I reached out to cancel my membership that I have through Active and Fit and courthouse as we are moving over an hr away and will not be anywhere near courthouse.

My wife cancelled hers approximately 2 months ago and they told her because she was with Active and Fit there was no 30 day notice.

I reached out to find out when at the club and was directed to the website. I let them know it showed through the end of March and I want it cancelled end of February and was told to call in and they would take care of it.

I called in and was told that they were going to keep my same billing plan in place. I let them know they did not have my authorization to continue billing me for a service they wouldn't be providing.

The level of customer service from this rep was absolutely disgusting and unbelievable because I've never had anything but a positive experience with their staff. I have tried to be understanding with the location having been under renovations with the majority of the location not available but this experience took it to a whole new level.

It would be nice for the corporate office to reflect on their reps and maybe offer additional training.

Drew if your representatives would be consistent I would have filed the cancelation back in January as the "30 day policy" would have been known vs telling and processing without one for my wife.

That being said the representative on the phone continued to chuckle and tell me she was going to keep my billing the same, so disgusting and unbelievable are accurate. I've never been treated that way by a rep of courthouse and find that behavior or be unacceptable.

Courthouse has a great lap pool but for the last 7 months there have been no locker rooms no sauna, and a single, always occupied restroom, and a single change room. There has been little outreach to members keeping them informed about the progress of the construction and at least two locker rooms completion dates come and gone and still no locker rooms. The remote entry portals minimizes contact with members entering and leaving so contact with staff is genuinely minimized.

I love the water aerobics class, Luke and Laura are great instructors. I started the first of September and the arthritis in my knees is better. I was very hesitant about joining a jym but I've found every single employee to be very kind and helpful, as well as the people who are there to get healthy by working out. So glad I joined. In town visiting for a week and wanted to make sure I kept up with my aqua fitness goals. The 2 week pass costs the same as 5 drop in classes at another facility and gives me access to the full membership minus the special stuff like towel service. Great value. The 8am MWF and 9:30 am TTH aqua fit classes are a great mix of cardio, strength, and core training with proper warm up and cool down stretching. I enjoy having different instructors because they always bring something a little different to the workout and both were exemplary.

The vibe I encountered was a very welcoming one. I'm a fat fitness enthusiast and nobody uttered a word about it to me. We were all just some people looking to move our bodies. I also observed many different types of bodies in the gym working out while I was there. Seems pretty welcoming for those who sometimes get anxious about such things.

For those unfamiliar to this location: if you don't prefer using a warm pool for your aqua fitness, they reserve the first lane of the lap pool as well and it's easy to hear and see what you're doing. Great job! I'm excited to come back next time when the renovations are finished.

(A note for visitors in fall of 2024: the locker rooms are being remodeled right now. There are adequate private changing rooms and one private shower you can use, but probably plan to head home to shower and get ready after class. Also the parking lot is a little complex as they do the exterior of the building so build in an extra 5 minutes to figure that out.)

Joining the Courthouse has been a wonderful experience. From hearing someone call me by name right when I walk through the door or as I leave to instructors noticing that I am a new face and introducing themselves, I have definitely felt seen. The variety of classes offered is why I joined and I have not been disappointed. The energetic and encouraging instructors made it feel like home from the beginning. Staying fit should be fun, the Courthouse gets that and offers a wide variety of options to so everyone can find a good fit.

Nice facility. This place has been pillar in Salem. Been in the area for over 30 years. This location has swimming. Swimming includes lanes, area for people to have fun and they even have lessons.

They also have weights of all types for lifting and they have basketball court to play a game with your friends. They also have spinning classes.

Other locations have tennis courts and racquetball courts.

If you want a clubhouse to take care of your body, this is a locally owned club for all types.

I’m new to the area and trying to find a gym to acclimate and meet new people. This is legit peak insanity. The place seems solid and has resources but my god do they make it seem very clear they don’t want customers. $70 a month and don’t allow you to even try the gym out paid or free for a day?! Never have I seen a gym do this and on top of that they offer a “lower price” membership for like $40 but you can only use the gym 4 hours between 12pm-4pm? God forbid you have a job. I mean call me crazy but it seems like they have too many customers and these prices and restrictions are reflecting that they want to get rid of some and negate getting anymore new customers? Maybe it’s just me trippin but this is actually insane lmao. I don’t mind paying a little more if it’s a nice gym and all that but $70 seems like legit robbery. I signed up for this gym through Active and Fit Direct for a regular membership. When I went to courthouse to find out how to check in they told me that with my membership I am only allowed to use the gym between 12 p.m. and 4p.m. This was the first time I heard of this limitation and I never would have signed up knowing I could only use the gym during a 4 hour window when I am at work. They will gladly upsell you for an additional $30 a month on top of what you are already paying. The gym blames it on active and fit direct, Active and fit blames it on the gym. Feels very much like a bait and switch.

It seems 9 times out of 10 I get stopped by someone who works there to see if I paid(I always pay). I am an Asian woman and it seems lots of people that go to the gym are white. This gym used to be a real gem. The owners have been letting more and more maintenance and repair slip on by though.

From the huge rusty vent sprinkling red dust over the hot tub to the broken handicap shower poolside to the numerous broken showers, doors, and fixtures, and so on.. It reminds me more and more of a run-down YMCA.

Would be nice to see them invest more in fixing things, rather than worrying about putting in fancy new security gates to walk through like it's an airport.

Is scheduled for a remodeling and could desperately use it. Was once a wonderful gym is now dirty and in disrepair. Don't ever leave your things unattended, don't use their provided coat racks. Your things will get stolen. People will have phones out in locker rooms when you're changing despite posted signs, and staff do zero when reported. One day had a group of elderly men escorted to the womens showers because "they didn't have any male staff on shift." And that "it was okay they had dementia and didn't know what was going on." Women in the locker room and showers were given zero warning. Some wonderful staff but sadly some staff you'll hear openly make fun of members working out or what they wear. Childish atmosphere provided by the the older staff in the building, sad really. Contracts are designed to last too long, and once mine is up I will gladly be leaving for a better priced, cleaner gym.

I joined recently and have been so impressed with not only the gym itself but how well I’ve been treated by the staff. Every person there has been so accommodating and goes above and beyond. My child takes swim lessons and they're fantastic. He actually gets a membership renewal for every Christmas from his grandparents who are regular attendees. I also applaud the courthouse for staying open and available for patrons to continue improvements on their health. In a pandemic that mainly affects obese, diabetic and people with not a lot of cardiovascular health, it's a no-brainer to keep the gyms open at all costs. Also there's a mental health crisis that is improved by access to fitness facilities. So, thank you, Courthouse, for standing up for the health of Salem residents, for preventing the spread by helping people stay out of "vulnerable demographics".

They have classes, a weight training area, cardio studio, clean locker rooms, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. It's perfect for anyone who wants a nice place to work out. I highly recommend it!!!!

I normally go to a different gym but bought a temporary pass to the Courthouse b/c of Governor Browns lockdowns.. I’m so thankful to the Courthouse for being open! They are doing a huge service to the community by staying open and keeping people mentally and physically strong! I see a lot of older folks there and you can tell it’s their daily routine. They’re their to exercise, get out of the house and see friends. Please stay open, we need it!

I love the courthouse I’ve been going for 5 years now and have no desire to change or stop staff is always super friendly and helpful! I always feel welcomed in the place. During the pandemic they have taken extreme caution making sure we all have proper safety and sanitation access not only do i see staff cleaning while working out members are as well and mask are required courthouse has done a good job at meeting the safety sanitation protocols for covid-19 and i will continue my fitness journey here thanks courthouse!

This company cares about nothing but making more profit. They cut very popular classes like water aerobics and the swim team, which were popular for over 20 years, so they could add more little kid swim classes to non members. No loyalty to club members.

The gym and classes are fine. The business practices of this place are less than great. I communicated several times about my desire to not renew my training contract. They charged me anyway. When I stopped in to correct the problem, the manager told me this happens automatically and he had to check with the head trainer to "get his side." I decided my best bet was the dispute the charge via my bank. This makes me sad as there are great people who work there, but the business side of things takes away from a great gym experience.

I love the Courthouse-Battle Creek! It is easy to find, the staff are awesome, enthusiastic, friendly, and with an upbeat attitude are very helpful. They have onsite child care. Wide variety of workout classes, exercise bike room, treadmill area with TVs. On the lower level is the weight room, basketball court, two pools (cold and warm) which have more of a therapeutic salt base instead of the overwhelming chlorine water found in most pools. In the locker rooms they have a sauna and steam room. Jacuzzi is in pool area and has perfect view of the pools. The club also has a great personal training staff, as well as, a nutritionist. All around great club facility. Hands down my favorite

1-star due to what I feel is poor business ethics/values.

I just moved into the apartments that are almost connected with the gym, and learned about a great discount for being a resident there. I called to inquire if the price discount was true and it was confirmed.

The next day I went and signed up at said price and paid the first months dues. Now, a week later I receive an email stating that the price agreement was outdated information that wasn’t communicated and that they’d be increasing my dues by nearly 80% next month unless I wanted to terminate the entire thing.

We like the convenience along with the classes and childcare so we will continue as members, but feel that pulling back on the original agreement due to their own error is really poor customer service.

UPDATE:
Continued as members after what had happened until I got a message a month later stating our membership had been terminated by accident. We went into fix the issue and they were going to nearly double the already increased price stating the price quoted in email was again incorrect. At this point I refused to do business with these people, purely for the principle. We met with the club manager and he was just as fake nice as his sales staff, and merely apologized but essentially said they can raise prices whenever they want. I’m more than aware of that, it’s just not good business. A former personal trainer I met for this club eluded to the fact that the owner is not such a great person, I can tell.

I remember back in 2013 when I first came to this place it was beautiful. I'm still a member here and they always have friendly staff and beautiful girls. The prices are still the highest in Salem but the layout of the equipment now is unattractive and the steam room is always broken. This place I think has turned into a family fun center with loud children more than a place for adults to gather and work out. If LA Fitness came to town I will switch.
