Do NOT sign up to get a membership here. I emailed to cancel my membership and i have proof of it and they told me id have a last bill date id have to pay and i payed it and they still ended up charging me AGAIN even after i had already paid it, And i emailed yet again and went unanswered. Extremely unprofessional here and i wouldn’t recommend going. I am furious, i have been trying to get this solved for months seeing as it kept going up and nothing has been done other then getting sent to a debt collecting agency EVEN THOUGH i paid the last bill i had to pay.

I learned so much from personal trainer Mason that I had to write almost 2 pages of notes after the session, and I already know a lot.

He adapts the session to what you need and is great resource of ergonomics knowledge.

I went to this gym twice a week for eight years. Last week, a personal trainer I had never talked to came up to me and started cussing me out really loudly in front of everyone. He said my workout was "shit," accused me of things I didn't do, and made some comments about my genitals. Then he just walked away. I canceled my membership the next day and joined a different gym.

The payment /Administrative system Is an absolute nightmare. Not to put anything on the stuff or receptionist, they do the best with what bs they are given, but the CEO or whoever is choosing the software company is making it an entire hellscape. From being charged for multiple occasions on the same month, being charged multiple annual fees in one year and not being able to get a solution from the staff at first, things not going through for literally no reason, staff not being trained properly on how to cancel, at a certain point, the frustrations are weighing out the cheapness.Protect your dollar. I feel bad for the staff.

DON’T GO HERE. I was warned about this place and I didn’t listen. So please listen to my warning.

I went in to cancel my membership, filled out the paperwork and took a picture of it(luckily the front desk employee recommended this)

A couple months later I had to get a new card and I get an email from crunch saying that my payment method failed and now I’m past due?!? Past due on the account I closed a couple months ago? I called billing and they couldn’t help me they said to call the front desk. Front desk said there is no record of me cancelling and that I could come back in and fill out new paperwork which would mean I wouldn’t be able to get refunded for those months unless I could provide proof that I filled out the paperwork. (Oh yay me I have a picture.) I sent in an email explaining my situation and providing the proof and it’s been over 3 weeks with no response.

After reading so many reviews where this exact situation has happened to so many other people and the responses from the “owner” about it… I’m honestly disgusted. Also because my account is technically past due, I’m worried about being sent to collections (which is what has happened to others in this situation)

The “owner” seems very adamant that this is not a scam so I thought I’d include a dictionary definition to help clear things up.
SCAM noun
- a dishonest plan for making money or getting an advantage, especially one that involves tricking people

I joined this Crunch Fitness excited at first- Great price, solid equipment, easygoing atmosphere. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my membership within a couple months due to the overpowering use of artificial fragrance diffusers throughout the gym. They are BAD.

Every visit left me with a headache and clothes that reeked of synthetic scent. It’s not just a matter of personal sensitivity (though I know I’m not alone). These chemical fragrances are known endocrine disruptors and can seriously impact health... seems counter-intuitive for a fitness and health business.

The place has plenty of ventilation, there is literally no need for those nasty things. I really hope they consider the health of their customers and employees and change that standard.

UPDATE: Apparently they have listened to many complaints and removed all their fragrance diffusers. Good on them!

Stopped in to check it out and was disappointed. I remember the original gyms in San Francisco and New York. Those were amazing gyms. This place is kinda depressing, worn down, and grungy. Nothing is bad it just looks like a lot of years of neglect is catching up on everything

Updated 3/11 after employees respond.

Thank you for responding, but I’m troubled by the way my son’s experience is being minimized. These comments weren’t “misunderstandings” — they were unkind and unprofessional. Referring to a 26-year-old man’s financial independence by saying he could “buy his mommy a special gift” is patronizing and inappropriate. There’s no way to frame the cruel comment made on his birthday — pretending someone called for him, only to say “No one! No one asked for you!” — as a harmless joke.

My son deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, not made the target of belittling remarks. I truly hope this situation leads to a greater understanding of the importance of kindness, empathy, and professionalism — for my son’s sake and for every member who walks through your doors. Hoping this reaches corporate;

Concern review:

I am writing to formally express my deep frustration and concern regarding the treatment my son has received at your Division and 122 Portland, Oregon-facility. My son, who is now 26 years old and on the autism spectrum, has been a loyal member of this location since he was 16. He thrives on routine, and this facility has been an important part of his life.

Over the years, he has mentioned instances where the manager, Scott, has made inappropriate and belittling comments toward him. One example is when Scott said, “You don’t work, so does your mommy have to take care of you?!”—an entirely unprofessional and unacceptable remark. Most recently, on his birthday, Scott mockingly told him, “Someone called asking for you.” Naturally, my son, excited on his birthday, asked who it was. Scott then cruelly responded, “No one! No one asked for you!”

It is appalling that a grown man, especially one in a managerial position, would treat someone this way. My son is a participant in the Silver & Fit program, which supports individuals with disabilities. As a manager, Scott should be well aware of my son’s special needs and conduct himself with professionalism and respect. Furthermore, I want to make it explicitly clear that my son is financially independent—he simply requires assistance with managing his finances, which, frankly, is none of Scott’s business.

This behavior is beyond unprofessional; it is mean-spirited and completely unacceptable. My son has asked me not to take action because he fears retaliation from this so-called manager, which is even more concerning. However, I cannot in good conscience allow this to continue.

I expect corporate to investigate this matter immediately and take the necessary corrective action. I look forward to a prompt response and a resolution to ensure that no one else has to endure this type of treatment.

This facility is amazing. Brian and his trainers do a fantastic job; there is a lot of comradery here, which is a credit to the positive, no-judgment culture that Brian has fostered here. At the Beaverton and Aloha gyms, you just don't see this same kind of comradery. Kudos and keep it up!!!

Crunch Fitness is a great gym for working out, thanks to its spacious layout and ample equipment. Personally, I've grown a lot as a fitness enthusiast here. The general manager, if it's still Scott Soto, has been a fantastic personal trainer (he trained my father for many years and I've done a session with him years ago) who has always fostered a strong sense of community at this location.

However, my review is not a reflection of the gym's management but rather a critique of the policies set by higher-ups who do not consult the staff responsible for sales and implementation of these policies. The cancellation process for memberships is intentionally frustrating, requiring members to send a letter via snail mail or come in-person. This outdated practice (hello, it's 2024) feels like a tactic to retain customers’ money rather than prioritize their needs. In today’s digital age, allowing members to cancel online (like most subscription services) would greatly enhance Crunch's reputation. Alternatively, allowing cancellation via email could provide valuable insights into members’ reasons for leaving, helping to address any shortcomings in services or customer care. When I signed up, I had to sign nothing for Crunch to have access to my bank account and to access the building. Interesting. 🤔

It's disheartening that gyms like Crunch, which offer low-cost memberships, often profit from people who purchase memberships but don't use them. If every member were to show up regularly, the gym would likely be overcrowded.

As a manager of an ethical studio in Portland, I would never resort to such tactics to maintain revenue, especially from individuals in lower socioeconomic statuses. For many Crunch members, this may be the only affordable gym option. Additionally, the membership contract is lengthy and complicated, making it challenging for some members to fully understand their commitment without legal assistance.

I maintain my membership at Crunch primarily for its proximity to my home. While my studio is cleaner and I can workout for free and have a lifetime membership, I appreciate the opportunity to exercise anonymously, without interruptions from others seeking help with their memberships or equipment. For me, working out is vital "me time" and a crucial part of my emotional well-being.

The TL;DR of this review: I urge anyone considering a Crunch membership to weigh these factors and think carefully about entering into a contract with such a burdensome cancellation policy.

TO THE RESPONSE FROM BUSINESS BELOW:

It’s clear you didn’t read my review. I know your cancellation policy—and it’s not the best, it’s outdated and deliberately difficult. I signed up, charged my card, and accessed the facility with no proof of identity. As a former Crunch employee almost a decade ago, I spent hours dealing with angry members still being charged after trying to cancel. At my current facility, members can cancel anytime via email or online, no signature needed. Crunch’s policies are unethical, and I hope this saves someone the frustration your ex-members face daily. 😉

DO NOT SIGN UP TO CRUNCH FITNESS. My wife and I decided to sign up for this gym 2 years ago. We moved and choose another gym, and i went in and cancelled our account. 6 months later, we start getting billed again and apparently the employee we had talked to just paused our account. I called and got no answer or was told i would be called back, I sent in a request via their website and never heard anything back, and this all went on for a year.
Finally after trying to cancel everything, I just cancelled the card they were pulling money from. All is good they can no longer pull from that card, but no they sent me to collections. This is a company that is extremely easy to start a membership with and impossible to close an account with.
DO NOT do business with Crunch Fitness.

ok, i don't give 5 stars lightly...and honestly i don't want this place getting overrun with goobs... 🤷‍♂️
however, from my experience so far, this gym deserves it.
large facility, tons of good equipment in good condition. some stuff that i've never seen at a crunch location before.
everything's clean, paper towel/disinfectant stations everywhere, good layout.
girl at the front desk was very pleasant and helpful.
locker rooms are nice.
memberships are very reasonably priced.
very pleased.

2 issues:

1) too clustered and cramped especially at the benches.

2) the stories about how notoriously hard to cancel are true. I did via email 2 weeks ago then in person a week ago. I have called a few times. This facility makes you actually work to cancel a contract. I’ve been with the gyms for 2 years and have honored my end of the bargain.

Given the location. I’d recommend other budget friendly gyms. This one isn’t worth it.

Iris decided to come out of the gym and shame me for not putting my cart away from grocery outlet. As a disabled member of this community I'm ashamed that she chose violence in that way. I was leaving as quickly as I could because I was was about to have a flare up of my condition and needed to get home ASAP. When I called the gym after arriving at home, I asked if I was speaking to the person that tried to shame me for that decision. It was the first time in my life that I have ever not put a cart away, so I already felt bad but I could hardly breathe. Before I was able to explain that to Iris on the phone she told me that I could call back on Monday and speak to her manager and then hung up on me. This is gross mean girl behavior. Don't assume that someone is just being a jerk because they can't or didn't put their cart away. If they tell you they're disabled maybe you can be a nice person and put the cart away for them instead being a complete Karen. I thought Crunch was all about being all inclusive and equitable. Turns out that's just a nice campaign.

Update: After driving to the location to cancel. Crunch called me a year later for late fees, they never cancelled my membership. Luckily, when signing the cancellation document, the staff member recommended that I photograph it, as Crunch "losing" the documentation and continuing to charge members is common practice 🤯. I filed a report with BBB with photographic evidence, and Crunch provided a refund.

Original Review: Will not cancel membership over the phone, or on the website, you must DRIVE to the location, even if you've moved elsewhere, so gotta deal with that now. Other than that issue, they are friendly, and quite affordable.

A few weeks ago, I had a disturbing encounter at Crunch gym on Division. While there, I was groped by an older man who made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. He forcibly grabbed and felt my left arm, stared at me in a creepy manner, and said “I grope other men’s arms too”. The man, who appeared to be Caucasian and in his 60s, was well over 6 feet tall and had a mustache. Despite my efforts to seek help, including speaking with multiple staff members and the manager, Scott Soto, the resolution offered was unsatisfactory. Scott mentioned that if the individual repeated his behavior, his membership would be revoked. However, the only immediate solution presented to me was to file a police report if I wanted his membership revoked right away. Rather than wait for him to harass someone else for his membership to be revoked, I wanted to warn everyone else. This experience has shattered my perception of this gym as inclusive and safe.

To warn others, especially fellow women, I want to describe him in case you encounter him. He’s over 6 feet tall, bald, with a gray mustache that he sometimes dyes blue. He often wears multiple hats and comes across as sociable. Please prioritize your safety and steer clear of this individual. Be vigilant and stay safe!

***Edit: You know I didn't review the wrong club. You failed to process my transfer paperwork that I filled out with you in person at your club, proceeded to allow me to use your location, believing that was my current club, then when I eventually cancelled in person at your club, you didn't process that either. Then when I continued to get charged, you refused to take any responsibility and said it wasn't your problem. But you know this isn't true. Just wanted to clarify for the others reading. Thanks! ***

An absolute nightmare. Just as another review mentions, I filled out paperwork TWICE in person and both times they lost or failed to process it, resulting in a huge mess and costing me so much time and effort to resolve it. As I continued to get charged, I called several times trying politely to resolve it, but met with apathy and attitude- no one wanted to help and I never got one apology or call back when I was told I would be called back. It was never resolved. Had to open a case with the BBB and block recurring charges with my bank due to their incompetence. I promise you the quality of this gym is NOT worth the struggle it will take to clean up their mistakes. I hate saying things like this about a business but it's true, and people deserve to know so they do not fall victim to this situation. And please do not respond to this review trying to make excuses for what happened or make it seem like I'm exaggerating because you guys seriously dropped the ball, and as an extremely understanding and patient person you still left me utterly disappointed and furious.

Crunch Fitness on Division is a really nice gym. You get a lot for you money, whether you choose the $9.99 or $19.99 membership, it is a great deal! They probably have 40 treadmills, 10 stairclimbers, 10 stationary bikes, and 10 ellipticals. They have a nice 20-yard turf area with a sled. There is also an adult jungle gym, 2 power rack stations, another squat rack, 2 benches, 2 incline benches, a few smith machines, and dumbbells up to 100lbs. There is also a cardio room that has classes, or you can use it when classes aren't in session. And all of the staff are super friendly. They genuinely care about you and your fitness goals.

Theres only so much you can learn online and its hard to know if your form is right etc, and having a personal trainer really helped. The membership for this place is really not that expensive. I would give them no stars but one is all I can give. I canceled my membership in august of this year because I was moving. I signed their little cancellation paperwork. Well it’s now November and they continue to charge me for a membership. I’ve called them twice now and resent a picture of the cancellation paperwork they still haven’t cancelled or refunded my money. Also all beware they advertise military discount inside the gym but don’t actually give a military discount. Fraudulently charging for a membership and false advertising.

Nice staff, clean space but they REALLY aren’t doing maintenance. Lights are out in the bathrooms, sinks are broken, and the weight machines are all being “used until failure” and not getting proper maintenance. As one example, instead of the proper carabiners they’re using hardware store carabiners with zip ties as retention clips. The sharp cut end on one of these zip ties cut my hand.

Again the staff are friendly and hard working but they can’t make replacement parts. Management needs to stop cheaping out and stop improvising fixes.

Thank you for adding more yoga classes! The yoga/pilates class on Sunday is my favorite. Each instructor brings a different vibe to their classes, and I appreciate the variety. I hope these classes all stay around after summer.

My only complaint is how many people walk in during the classes. It's really disruptive- especially during a class like yoga. I don't know if putting a sign right on the door that says "class is in session- don't enter" would help or not, but I really wish something could be done.

As I was a members my self before working here I was welcomed and even encouraged by others as I worked out to do more and make a goal for my self, and guess what a lot of people show up to this gym at 5am like wow I didn't even know people showed up that early!

Crunch is terrible at customer service and checking their emails. The website will give a genetic email to each of their gyms and they do not respond. This has been my second Crunch gym in Oregon that does not respond to emails when inquiring or asking to end membership. This ended up overcharging me for months that I did not attend. I understand that COVID threw this business through the ringer but that does not mean you limit the customers options on ending their monthly contract. Will never be going back to this gym or any other Crunch gyms for that matter.

Now with even less treadmills! In June 2022 I was told they would have down machines fixed. It’s been four months and nothing has been fixed. Morning runners struggle to run on their favorite machine. You know, because they’re “being fixed”.

Gross contract practices. I caught covid and was in the hospital for weeks, since getting out I am advised against exerting myself. I wasn’t able to make it in to cancel my membership til the day before it renewed and several days before the annual fee. The person working said I would still be getting charged. After telling them about my covid situation, they said that I could leave a note with contact info and I would not be charged.
Not only was I still charged the $50 annual fee, which is great after missing so much work from being sick. They challenged my payment dispute and did not respond to my note or email asking for help.

Gym was fine when I used it. I went in to cancel my account and pay a past due balance because my card on file had been lost. I paid it and signed the cancel form and the rep asked if I would like my new card to be on file...I said no as I was canceling...he said "oh that's right".

A couple weeks later their collections are calling me saying this months subscription fee is due. I said "this must be wrong cause I canceled already" the lady said "oh you "applied" to cancel yes, but there is a 30 day notice period for that cancelation to go through and so you were just billed for another month". I asked what is the business purpose of this 30 day period while my "application" to cancel my membership goes through....is this just essentially a way to skim one more payment off customers on their way out the door? She had no answer about the purpose of the 30 day notice other than what the person responding to these reviews will say "per your signed contract".

Whatever it's 10 additional bucks I'll go in and pay it. But after reading the reviews from other people of how inconvenient it is to cancel (you have to send certified mail or physically go fill out a sheet to cancel and then that cancelation doesn't apply for 30 more days), the people saying still getting charged after they cancel, and then the people responding to these issues not having a logical case for why it's hard for people to cancel aside from "you signed the contract" makes it seem pretty scummy, contract or no.

I’ve had a crunch membership at one point or another since I was 16, but since going back for the first time, I was pretty disappointed! I hopped on the stair machine, and the first one was clanky so I hopped on another and after it started it wouldn’t stop, on level 7, and then I realized the pull cord was gone. I decided stairs weren’t for me and headed to the treadmills and I noticed they were SUPER dirty. I worked at a commercial gym and I know it gets dirty fast but I took a peek at the front feet, and I could tell they haven’t been touched in weeks. Stretched, went to weights and upper body machines and the same level of dirty, and left just underwhelmed. Thankfully I could cancel and wasn’t locked into a contract, but I was really disappointed! I’ve always thought of crunch as a better end of commercial gyms, I liked the equipment and the classes but the grime just gives me the ick.

Definitely no very good business practices. I don't recommend this place.

I can't say enough about how unprofessional my experience with Crunch Fitness on Division was. I called everyday, 4 days in a row, asking to speak to a manager about a charge on my account that I did not owe, emailed several times and did not receive a response. After leaving several messages asking for a call back- I JUST received a call over a month later from Allison, the GM, telling me that I still owed money even though I had canceled my account months prior. Although the front desk told me several times that this was an erroneous charge and my account was canceled, Allison told me that this charge was correct and I needed to call the collect company to pay it off. When I reached out to collect they told me that was absolutely wrong and I owed nothing. It looks like crunch drop the ball several times and the fact that they allowed this payment to go to collect (when I did not owe them anything) potentially messing up my credit and not even offering so much as an apology is absolutely despicable. What's even worse is that I kept being told I would receive a call back from their general manager when Allison told me she wasn't even hired until September so they clearly didn't even have a manager to call me back. You're going to have a lawsuit on your hands if you keep operating like this. Also, Allison told me she reports to no one and hung up the phone when I asked for her supervisors name. VERY professional.

* I never swore when speaking to the GM and the below comment is absolutely incorrect and not informed. Another example of the unprofessionalism of Crunch * *

A fitness club I actually use. Go figure.Trainer Brandyn is a star. I took kick boxing lessons from him. He's an exceptional teacher: enthusiastic, engaged, encouraging. I've been training other martial arts for over 20 years, and so have been introduced to quite a few teachers. Brandyn is in the upper echelon of those I've encountered. As young as he is, he's only going to get better. 2022 should be a good fitness year for me, and I owe a solid foundation for that to Brandyn and Crunch. Well done.

A really great value gym. Very welcoming staff and pretty friendly clientele. Some people are more friendly than others, and the crowd will change throughout the day, but this is true for most gyms with a wide client base. It's a value gym, you get what is advertised, rates are as advertised. From my experience they are straightforward business people, no tricky terms in their membership contract.
Really the only issue I have is the division gym is more popular than the other locations, and equipment is well loved and some things are missing. Staff does a good job servicing equipment in a timely manner though. I gave 4 stars because of the missing weights, other locations are better stocked.

After being a member of the Gresham location for 8 years, it was closed permanently during the pandemic. Without informing me, my membership was transferred to Division. I was informed of this only after the gym reopened, assessed a new annual membership fee, one month's fee, and went passed due. I visited this location in person, spoke with the manager, canceled my account, agreed to have the fees credited. Three weeks later I received a collection letter from a law firm in Utah attempting to collect the $48.90 past due amount. A failure of Crunch on multiple levels in not providing service, communication, or managing their internal logistics. It's also incredibly petty. I'm sure there's a number of other former Gresham club members experiencing the same headache right now.
