My son went to the kids summer camp at Crux with no climbing experience and a bit of angst about what it would be like. But by the end of the week he had successfully completed and surpassed all of his goals. The instructors made it fun and helped him build confidence and he is ready to keep climbing. We will be back for more camps and family activities.

Dude, Josh is freaking epic, like absolutely hooked us up. Came here once instantly felt at home and so comfortable it was my first time indoor climbing and the whole gym was just calm inviting and so cool. I instantly knew this was my place. BEST GYM IN TOWN. Thank you Josh, taught me how to belay and made sure I was safe. Crux For Life.

We will never take our kids here again first few times where great this last time no thanks Service was extremely rude. Told me I couldnβt be on the floor helping my kids when there was a lady with an infant. Employeβs name was Tobias young and unprofessional asked to speak with a manager or the owner. She got on the phone and went in the back room ignoring the situation I asked for a refund of my $31 and was Told no, I would not recommend this place for your family. Might be great for adults. Doesnβt have that family vibe
So they called the police and said we stole and yelled and harassed the staff I have it all on video no yelling and nothing got stolen Tobias doesnβt know how to do her job and didnβt look in the basket where you return the shoes Long story short, they wasted the policeβs time will be going to OSHA about the allowing infants on their floor while grown adult adults are climbing with photo and video evidence

Staff were super helpful and facility was clean. Everyone was friendly and helped myself and my friends ease into it. It seemed like there perhaps weren't that many middle ground climbing routes for once you escalate beyond being a beginner, but I also am such a novice that this didn't have that big an impact for me.

Nice facility and fun for different ages and skill level. We like to alternate between Crux and a local bouldering facility nearby.

Our experience was so incredibly disappointing. Two of my sons came to visit for spring break and our family of six went to check out the rock climbing. It was half off Friday, which gave us hope that we could do something fun as a large family. We sign the waivers, pay $100, on half off night. Get given our gear. Then we get walked out to see the place. First a small "cave" area which even my 11 year old cane reach up and touch the top in. Then we get shown a spot indicating where not to stand as to not have the climber fall on you, shown how to hooke up before unhooking from the wall. Then told there are 5 spots for EVERYONE in the facility to climb. All the other ropes hanging, like 15 other spots are only for experienced climbers. Like wait we can't climb together, we can't race, we can't team climb as a family and help each other. So we try to make the best of it. The one spot open was one of the more difficult spots for everyone to climb. We only took about 15 minutes to decide that it wasn't what we had thought. I spoke to the owner and explained the situation and our hopes. I asked for a partial refund, though considering I would have myself given a family in this situation a full refund if it were my business. Then heart break, she offered me credit, they wouldn't even consider a refund. I explained my sons aren't from here and we were just trying to enjoy our spring break. She told us we could go have dinner and come back it may be less busy. I again tried to explain to her we were hoping to enjoy this as a family, race each other, climb with each other, spend family time together. She was unwilling to offer us any sort of compensation. I explained they might be more transparent and let people know what exactly they are limited to prior to paying as I would have chosen something else to spend my money on to help my family enjoy the visit. Another mother who is sitting there was shocked about the situation. She was felt that our request for a partial refund was justified. Though I felt she as well had been denied her money's worth, she paid for her kids to climb, and since she wasn't in gear (shoes and a harness) she wasn't able to go and take photos of her children. Where she was able to sit she could pretty much only see 2 of the spots her kids could climb, and one of those was the difficult one. To the owner, you might consider being more empathetic to your customers and their concerns and try to put yourself in their shoes. Honestly I had considered possible lessons for my daughter who lives here, until I learned what a cold greedy person the owner was.

Very disappointed in our most recent experience at Crux.
My family and friends have been making a trip to come climb at least once a week and wanted to continue it and get memberships. (Iβm nervous to share this experience from how the owners have negatively responded to other bad reviews)
Everything we did we were continuously being told we couldnβt, were wrong or being told to not do something by the woman working. The gym was relatively empty so it made us feel very uncomfortable and targeted to the point we almost left. We would have appreciated being educated on harness use and repelling instead of being reprimanded consistently throughout our time. My other experiences were wonderful but we are going to reconsider returning or getting memberships after this last encounter.

Nice place to go for wall climbing. I prefer walls to bouldering so it's great to be able to do it indoors this time of year (Winter). Several spots with auto belay options and more if you have someone to belay. Would be nice if there was like a beginner (5.5-5.7), intermediate (5.7+ - 5.9) , and advanced wall (5.9+ and up) as there aren't many easy auto belay options for first time climbers. Otherwise a solid spot. If you're new, I'd opt for a class or take someone who can spend the time to explain the mechanics

The staff is friendly and helpful. And the little cafe attached has some really good options. Having worked in a rock gym years ago, it's really nice to see a gym that very regularly changes the routes so you don't feel like you're doing the same 5 climbs over and over. If you want to climb more than 3 times a month, just get the membership. It's cheaper!

I wish I could give this gym a good review, I had a lot of fun there. The problem is I contracted MRSA because of the unhygienic conditions. Never in my life have I been so upset. I wish I had known before I went. :( Now I could possibly end up needing a surgery because of the infection.
Funny how thereβs no record of me in your gym now and youβve stopped answering our email and phone calls. What happened to integrity?

Was traveling through Eugene on my way to smith and stopped to do some van maintenance. Had time to kill so my partner and I stopped in for a coffee. Ended up playing with cats and climbing here all day. Day pass is $17, showers are hot and stocked with shampoo etc, the staff was so sweet with letting us borrow a rope so we didnβt have to lug around our 70m. Very homey and more old school than my home gym, which made it challenging and super fun to climb. Also, by far the cleanest gym Iβve ever been to. The showers were immaculate. Theyβve placed so much into the space they have hereβbouldering, so many top rope/auto belay routes, workout area, cafe, overhung areas for lead. Honestly, would have given this 5 stars just cause of getting to play with cats while climbing, but damn, I had the best day here.
Overall very beginner friendly gym as well. Will 100 percent stop by next time Iβm in the area.

I was trying to bring a group. They wouldn't ever return my calls. I decided to just calll and said i was coming because we had a deadline. That is when I finally got a call and we couldnt find a time that worked for us
I then decided to break my group into smaller group of 6 so i didnt need a reservation. I called to confirm that this can happen. They said yes, and if someone wanted to belay have them coming down earlier. It was a bit challenging but in the end they were super helpful and great with the kids.

Crux Rock Climbing Gym is a hidden gem! The layout maximizes every inch of space, offering an impressive array of routes for bouldering, auto-belay, top rope, and lead climbing. The staff is not only friendly but incredibly knowledgeable; Justin provided an excellent breakdown of the rating and route climbing system. Plus, the accommodations for storing non-climbing gear while on the mats are top-notch. If you find yourself in the area, Crux is a must-visit!

Girlfriend and I have been many times. Wanted to do the outdoor climb at skinners this gym offered, never was able to solidify a time with the instructor at the time due to rain or instructor time not available. Paid for the outdoor climb lessons, never received them. Tried to get a gym credit or something instead when we went to climb at the gym indoors, they had no record of us not completing the outdoor lesson and no record from instructors end so they did not give us the money back or at least offer it back in credit for indoor course and wanted us to pay to climb indoor even though my girl already pre paid for the outdoor lessons. They basically took our money and gave us nothing due to bad management. Better bouldering and service is available across the street, if only they also had indoor rope climbing. Will not go back as I do not feel good about just having our money stolen due to poor practices on their end and poor record keeping.

Love me an old school climbing gym! I grew up climbing in a similar gym in the 90's when rock climbing was super weird and niche. These gyms always have a different vibe from the new style gyms. So expect the routes to feel different too (shorter, weirder, more interesting, etc.) But open on xmas eve, 13 bucks for a bouldering day pass, and a weight room with plenty of equip? Come on, who could gripe about that? This place is great!

Been going here as my main gym for the past couple months, haven't had a single bad experience, the crew is always nice, owners are cool, and there's often cute animals just walkin around. Upstairs gym has a bunch of equipment, downstairs has 5 auto belays, + a million different normal belays + they switch the routes out often so you never get bored. Also just a nice place to study/hang around. Pretty cheap for what they offer too. Definitely a place to stop by when goin through Eugene.

I'm a size 16/18 and I was concerned that they wouldn't have harnesses in my size. Happy to say that they do, and they can go even larger.
I do wish that they had some 5.6 routes on auto belay, not just the regular belay walls for those really new to climbing. Overall it it's been really fun, and a good workout!

The green one in the corner.
Crux is a great local climbing gym featuring roped and bouldering climbing perfect for anyone from beginner to advanced. You will need to get belay certified to use any of the top rope or auto belay systems and will need to take a lead test to do any lead climbing in the gym. There are rentals available and ropes for loan if you are lead climbing I suggest buying a 10 punch pass if you go there frequently as will be quite some savings if you do not want to commit to a membership.

Iβve been going to Crux consistently for around 8 months now and Iβve enjoyed top roping there. I commute to Crux around 2/3 times a week from Roseburg just to climb. The staff is nice, professional, and approachable.
However, I am reconsidering returning to this gym. I have had one too many negative experiences interacting with the owner, Marra. I wish the interactions between Marra and I last night were a one off event but sadly time and time again, I have been met with hostility. She walked up to my friends and I (I identify as a person of color) multiple times throughout the night of 1/18/23. The first instance she approached us was to tell me not to sit or stand on the padding. I had briefly sat on the padding to put on my shoes. I couldnβt help but feel singled out in this situation because there were staff members standing on the pad, a man with a camera tripod standing on the pad, and at least 20 other people sitting/laying on the pad watching the dead hang competition. After telling me to get off the pad she proceeds to ask my friends and I if we know how to clip into the auto belay. This line of questioning seemed odd and disrespectful because my friends and I have been coming to this gym regularly and have memberships/punch cards.
After we were done climbing, we decide to sit on the floor to watch the dead hang competition. We were approached by Marra again. She singled out my friend for wearing a hat in the gym because it is a safety hazard if it were to fall while climbing. This interaction occurred while two other men were actively climbing with hats on. When the two other men were done climbing neither one was informed of this safety hazard. After this interaction we decided to go upstairs to retrieve our gear and leave. Marra had come upstairs to retrieve a mop and bucket to clean up some vomit but before heading downstairs she flashed us the most wicked look.
Needless to say, these interactions with Marra have soured my experience at Crux. I came to enjoy my time climbing with friends but was targeted and harassed. If you are interested in rock climbing I would recommend going to Elevation across the street or the UO rec center.

Nice climbing gym in downtown Eugene. Itβs quite small when compared to other top roping gyms in Oregon. But it offers some interesting terrain to climb on. Their rates are also cheaper so I think thatβs okay.
They have both bouldering and top roping options. Also, they have a few autobelay systems setup which will help if you donβt have a belay partner.
The workout area up top is a nice place to warm up. They have rings, weights and a squat rack

Awesome staff & environment. You can enjoy yourself as a novice, or a rusty amateur, or a mild veteran. They have auto-belay systems, and ropes for people who want to don't want to rely on the auto-belay walls. They have a bouldering section, and an alphabet wall to work on your grip. Really fun experience.
They also a cafe/lounge area, a small gym, and a cubby area to put your bags. Things you might not immediately think are needed, but are such a blessing to have nearby. Adds more value to the membership imo.
Only issue I had, was with some of the bouldering routes. They felt short, and the challenge rating didn't seem consistent. Some that were rated V0-1 felt harder than V2-3. Would've taken off half a star for this, if I could give half stars. But even with this in mind, i still thought crux was overall worth almost a 5* rating.

I joined Crux last summer without knowing any climbers..gosh it's been great! It's a smaller, affordable gym that has friendly, loyal members who care a lot about each other, climbing, and having fun. The staff made me feel welcome right away, and after a couple weeks I was on my way to climb outside with new friends. It's the only gym around with lead & top-rope climbing, there's great coffee (espresso, spicy hot cocoa, oat milk/dairy alternatives, constantly changing menu), good bouldering/consistent route setting, and a cute dining/study area with booths, a woodstove, good wifi, and outlets/usb charging stations. There's weights/hangboard/cardio equipment upstairs, two bathrooms (one accessible), showers, cubbies, skylights, HVAC heating/cooling, and large garage doors that open in nice weather. Did I mention the owners hosted puppy and kitten adoptions here? Alzheimer's longest day fundraisers? Can't speak with higher regards for this business. Cheers!

I started climbing at Crux before the pandemic started and have continued to climb and support crux through the pandemic, even when their doors were closed, primarily because the staff and owners are just some quality, kind and caring people and I consider it a joy to support their business. I have had many talks with both owners and I can testify to the fact that they so deeply value pouring into the community and are extremely concerned with the safety of all who enter their business. From my experience with the owners I would say that they prioritize safety of their climbers above everything else. I have known the owners for years now and have climbed in their facility for years and again, I assure you, they care so much about safety and I have appreciated that so much as I have continued to climb multiple times a week through the pandemic. I highly recommend this place for any level of experience or just for a fun family outing. Its a great business ran by great people and I give them a 10 out of 10...or 5 out fo 5 since that's all I can do with google. Climb on folks!

My favorite place to climb in Eugene! Ladies night on Monday is great for new climbers and was my gateway to getting a membership here. The staff is amazing as well. Thanks!!

This gym has been a second home for me since the moment I walked in the door four months ago. This family gym has everything from lead climbing, top roping to auto belays. They will even take people climbing outdoors. On Monday it's females night, so if you are in the area one of the female climber volunteers will give you catch. Another perk of this gym is it has weights, a yoga class and lots of other toys to play with. People are super friendly so pop in a climb some walls.

Bouldered only, on my visit. Routes are color coordinated and rated at the base of the climb. I enjoyed the climbing, and the staff was friendly. They have special pricing if you are just bouldering for the day. π€

I came here for the first time today during Ladies Night. It was a blast! All the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. They also had a great sense of safety for everyone climbing and those just watching. They offer great advice to improve your climbing and make it easier. I highly recommend this place. Looking forward to coming again!

I took our family of 7 to Crux for our son's birthday and had a phenomenal experience! We are all very new to climbing and were a bit unsure of how it would go, especially with our younger kids. Needless to say, all of our concerns were put to rest. Immediately we were warmly greeted by Aubrey who helped us throughout our entire time (which ended up being over 3hrs at the gym!). He was incredibly helpful, knowledgable and most importantly patient with all of us. As a large family, big outings can be stressful and Aubrey made us feel totally comfortable and welcomed there the whole time. What a wonderful experience! Way to go Aubrey!! We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

Crux provides a welcoming and professional environment for a broad range of skill levels and interests. This includes young beginners, as well as the curious novices among us.
Key among Cruxβs qualities are a knowledgeable and engaging staff, well maintained equipment, and guest pass benefits for members!

Crux is the only place in town to both boulder and top rope, lead climb, and enjoy four different auto belays. All the bouldering routes have been reset recently. Additionally, there is a nice fitness area upstairs. Friendly staff and climbers. Highly recommended.

Crux is by far the best climbing gym I have ever been toβ¦
Some highlights:
-Super friendly extremely knowledgable staff.
-Epic walls with tons of overhang, plenty of places to practice bouldering, belaying, and lead climbing.
-Affordable daily/monthly rates with reasonable gear rental options.
-Climbing, lead climbing, and belaying lessons.
-Designated climbing routes with a fun points system so you can mark your progress.
-Four "Perfect Descentβ brand auto belays for safe solo climbing.
-Gorgeous lounge area with free wifi.
-Luxury locker rooms with the best hot showers in Eugene.
-Full on work out gym with weights, treadmill, heavy bag and tons of other stuff.
-Free yoga classes for members.
-Rad music playing all of the time.
Besides all of that Crux also hosts a weekly womenβs night, a weekly student's night, and is super kid friendly all of the time.
My son and I both recommend climbing at Crux Rock Climbing Gym unreservedly. Try it. You will like it.

The Crux is a fun local gym - they have recently upped their game as far as route setting, and have also added some auto belays that are great for a quick climb when you're there solo. Everybody is super nice too!

I am a wheelchair user and a 1 legged climber. Crux gym, the owner, and the staff were all absolutley amazing and went above and beyond. Not once was I made to feel disabled or different and that is huge in the world of adaptive sports. They offered to move mats, make pathways, and let me tour before I payed for a day pass. They even offered to teach me to belay which is something no other gym has done yet. The gym was clean and the shower was great. Had super hot water, great water pressure, one of those big circle shower heads, and even had top of the line shampoo and conditioner (not the typical gym soap) I was just planning on passing through town. I think I'll stay awhile.

Unsafe environment. Poor climbers are not monitored and safe practices are not enforced. Overcrowded even on a Monday. Staff is friendly, but I don't need friends when I go climb. I need to know I and others around me are safe. This place is not safe!!!

Visited from Corvallis and loved the unique bouldering cave. It's an awesome gym and reasonably priced, especially for students. Will have to come back with a harness and try out the roped climbing. Also, huge thank you to the staff (Lee) for helping me jumpstart my car's dead battery!

You can rent gear or bring your own. Top rope climbs from 5.6 to about 5.11, lead climbs from 5.7-8 to about 5.12, and bouldering starting at Vb going to maybe V8. The routes are switched out pretty regularly. There is belay training if you want it, and a kids program for Fridays during the school year. Good environment too.
