Best climbing gym in Eugene, and one of the best gyms I've ever climbed at. Fun route variety. Plenty of routes and space. Friendly workers and friendlier members.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Plus the routes are changed often enough that there always seems to be something new to try, but not so often that you can't come back to one that's giving you trouble

Was driving through Eugene and decided to stop and check out a gym. Compared to my home gym:

Super kind staff. No judgement or attitude. Super helpful and accommodating.

Very clean facility. Almost looks like nobody here uses chalk. Clean bathrooms. Private showers.

Great route setting. Community grading. Hard because it’s set well and tricky. Accommodates body movement. Not hard because it’s awkward or just super tiny holds. Even when they were tough holds they were conducive to the rest of the climb. Kudos to the routesetters here.

Byotowel, no sauna, but good gym overall.

Great gym. My 4, 7, and 10 year olds loved it. Kids’ area is large with a variety of different skill levels. Staff was very friendly, especially Chris, who made a point of talking to and encouraging my oldest son after a fall. We will be back!

With a little self-direction, this place can be everything you need for fitness. The atmosphere is relaxed, family-friendly, and respectful. The climbing walls are constantly updated with a range of difficulties to keep things challenging. The weight room is fully equipped with everything a climber could need to hone their skills. Since getting my son a membership, his sleep schedule has improved, and so have his grades. My only regret is not getting my family involved sooner.

Elevation is a great place to get people started on their climbing career. The facility is amazing, and they do their best to make it a good/safe environment. But it's not just the facilitie it's the community that sets it apart from other places. Everyone is encouraging and helpful when you're in a pickle on a route.

Fun and modern gym, a ton more terrain than what first meets the eye. I like the idea of a non v Scale grading system and it is implemented well. Setting is pretty good, on par with the β€œbig city” gyms up north at the very least. There is a slide to get off the top out boulder! Shared some of my favorite problems in da pics. Also - cool merch.

Only con I can think of is the wall texture in places is at worst polished to granite countertop levels. Could definitely use a little retexturing on parts of the top out boulder. Somewhat small gripe though, it’s good practice.

I've been to .... Dozens? Oh gyms all over the country since 1995 and this wonderful space is top 3. Love the crew, features, space, value, lessons and most importantly the routes. They manage to strike a balance between cultivation of an inclusive, save, fun and welcoming environment, while having quality routes and facilities that meet or exceed what you would expect from a big box gym. They have excellent youth programs for both recreational and competitive climbers of all ages. A challenge in all gyms is providing a fun environment for young climbers while still maintaining a safe environment. Unsupervised small children are at risk for serious injuries or worse in an environment with many falling adult bodies. They've addressed inherent risk by teaching parents that bringing children to the gym is not like dropping them off at day care or the playground, but a space where they can closely supervise their children, helping them learning situational awareness and proper climbing safety and etiquette.

I love this gym and look forward to their continuing growth and success.

This is a bouldering gym done right. Eugene is super fortunate to have such a top-tier gym. Routes are refreshed often. It's super clean. Member hours are from 0600 to 2100. There are plenty of free weights, KBs, moon boards, and an open space for body work like yoga. They also have free social climbing sessions and free courses for members. At around $90 per month, the value is pretty high.

Time really flies here. Staff has always been super helpful and you get a free class with membership. Membership is 85$ a month and there is no signup fee however; it is 10$ a month to "freeze" the membership instead of canceling, and if you do cancel it will be 60$ to reactivate it. The grading is different here, it is done by color so you will not see the Vgrade, but it makes for a very clear system without tape or stickers. The boulders are always super fun shoutout to the setters.

This is one of the best bouldering gyms I have been to. The mats are soft and make falling on your body feel safe.
They take care of all their equipment and make the most of the area they have. A new wall is getting put up about every week or so which it allows you to have something new to try weekly. The monthly membership is well priced and they have a nice, free weight gym.
Upstairs is a small study with free wifi. The staff and owners are incrediblly friendly. They have bi-weekly group climbing classes for beginners to advanced climbers.

Overall great experience and would recommend checking it out!

Pretty big bouldering gym. The route setting is varied and seems focused on promoting interesting movement in climbing. I like that they have an area for storing bikes inside the gym so you don't have to worry about leaving your bike locked up outside. I've been going to Elevation about 5 days a week for several months. I started as a total novice. After visiting other bouldering gyms, I've already started worrying about whether any other gym could take Elevation's place if I left Eugene.

Elevation is spacious, bright, clean, and modern. They don't have quite as many amenities as some places, but the indoor bike parking, separate kids area, lounge, locker room, and weight room are welcome. The falling mats are thicker and softer than average, which makes falling less intimidating. I haven't seen any significant injuries occur in the many hours I've spent there. The staff is friendly and always willing to offer help and advice (and, in my case, bandaids). Phil's foundation series classes fundamentally changed my approach to climbing for the better, and the Let's Climb Together meetups seem like a great way to join a social group. In my experience, most Let's Climb Together participants are intermediate climbers, though there is a large range.

Most importantly, Elevation's team of route setters are talented and thoughtful. Even the blue routes (the easiest level) are varied and individually crafted, which helps beginners learn new skills right from the start. New routes go up regularly. Pretty much every time I walk up to a wall of new routes, I encounter something I haven't seen before. It almost feels like the routes are teaching me to solve problems and develop new techniques. Weirdly enough, the routes sometimes feel like well-made crossword puzzles in this sense. The route setters also mix things up with novelties like spray walls (walls packed with all kinds of holds and no pre-set routes) and chaos walls (where the color coding system changes, allowing you to encounter holds you wouldn't ordinarily see at the difficulty levels you're used to).

I don't love the music, but that's just what you get when 22-year-olds have the aux cable. I also wish they had more classes and other programming for adults, particularly during the day when the gym is quiet.

If you have the time and motivation to visit a few times a week, a membership is more than worth it. I'd suggest taking the foundation classes as soon as possible. Experienced climbers passing through Eugene should definitely get a day pass.

COVID note: Elevation was great with COVID safety while managing to stay open and support its employees. As of late March 2022, masks are now optional, and most people don't wear them. However, it is an airy, well-ventilated space. If you're concerned about COVID exposure, I'd suggest going during off hours, such as before school gets out on a weekday, to make it easier to maintain social distancing.

UPDATE: The music has gotten better!

The place was clean, good atmosphere and not to busy for lunchtime. Definitely recommend going here if you are interested.
The cost was reasonable and you can lift weights in a decent size gym area too if you want. Work on your grip or a full body workout if you are interested. Have fun!

My family and I (2 adults and a 3yr old) have paid $165/month for a membership here for 2 months as of today. Anytime we have gone the parking lot is full and so are the walls inside. There are also large spaces on the climbing walls that have not been accessible. For the price we are paying and for the space they have, it's way over priced and small. There is also a wall that has had all the holds they are not using on other walls smashed onto it in no particular order. The prices should be lower for members that are not a part of the climbing team, or whatever they are doing with all the other walls. Less space to climb should mean less due monthly

Source: Google

Tom Doe

β˜… 2

The walls are very loosely packed causing there to be less mid and low level boulders and the grading system makes it difficult to find a diverse range of holds in a session. I've gone to gyms with far less wall surface area that still have much higher quantity and quality of boulders.

This is the best climbing gym I’ve ever been to. Planet granite, Brooklyn boulders, cliffs at LIC / DUMBO all have nothing on the boulders here at Elevation.
Day passes are $15 which is actually quite reasonable, they’re $20-$39 at the gyms I’ve listed above, and they do have student rates ($2 off), and a reasonable monthly rate.
Setting is amazing with lots of variety even at lower grades, from slab to overhang, with dynamic and static routes sprinkled in all around the gym.

This place is fantastic for new climbers or folks getting back into climbing because there’s so much variety of movement. You can pick up fairly advanced techniques and movements without needing to advance to a higher grade which I haven’t seen at other gyms.

The gym is also spacious which leads to less climbers sitting directly under the wall or blocking routes, and COVID precautions seem to be taken very seriously.

Get a day pass before noon and you can usually return later (just talk with the friendly folks at the front desk) which can give you a better idea on what the climbing community is there.

We love this place!

It's be great if they added a top rope area and more beginner routes for us amateurs.

So fun.

This place is amazing, especially if you have little kids. My 4 year old could climb almost all of the routes in the kids area and she spent lots if down going around and down the slides. This is the best kids climbing area I've ever seen. The gym is super clean, the routes were dope, and the area was huge. They have a fitness room and a lounge room with chairs/sofas, a TV, climbing magazines and tables. The fitness room included an assault bike and a rower which stood out to me. I'm only in town visiting but I'll definitely be back next time I come into town.

I've spent more than 3 year climbing here, and I have never had a bad experience. Well, one that wasn't my fault - falling wrong, pulling a muscle, etc. The staff are incredibly friendly and are always eager to help in whatever way they can. The members are also very friendly. I often find myself having a pleasant conversation with someone that I've never met before. Elevation also hosts events throughout the year that are a blast! The Dino Dyno was my favorite.

Love Elevation!! Great atmosphere, staff is wonderful, problems for all levels, fun classes. I would love for them to open a second spot because it gets so busy in the evenings.

I've only been here a handful of times, but it's always been fun. Good for people of all ages, sizes, and familiarities with bouldering. They have dozens of walls that seem to change frequently. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to do bouldering, or who is looking for an adventurous activity without much safety concern.

I love the fact that you can just show up with your shoes and chalk and just start climbing! Never really liked the ropes, harness, and having to have a bilayer. Too much prep for me personally. Bouldering is simple climbing. Highly suggest it to everyone!

If you look back at my contribution history, I've written reviews of bouldering and climbing gyms across the world. I'm fully thanked that a gym of this calibre exists in Eugene. Here are some notable distinctions of this gym:

(1) The route setting is thoughtful, interesting, creative, and a good training ground for routes that you may find outdoors. Easily some of the best route setting I've come across at any gym.
(2) I appreciate the color-coded circuit grading system for determining problem difficulty. This frees the setting staff from grade constraints, and allows them more creativity in how they set routes.
(3) I'm a trained public health professional with multiple advanced degrees in microbiology and infectious disease. Therefore, in the age of COVID, I really appreciate how CLEAN they are.
(4) They have a Moonboard + LED set-up, multiple hangboards, and a fully-equipped strength training room. They are fully equipped to provide a space to train and get strong.
