About the Club

The Eugene Family YMCA is one of the region's leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y has been serving Lane County since 1887.

Located in the heart of South Eugene, the Y's Don Stathos Campus opened on December 18, 2023. This state-of-the-art facility, made possible by the generosity of our community, has meant thousands more families have found support, youth have discovered confidence, seniors have maintained friendships and individuals have focused attention on their physical and mental health.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who believed in this project and generously donated to building the Don Stathos Campus.

We've been members here for a couple of years now and LOVE it! Yes, it is popular and why wouldn't it be? It's huge, well-kept, clean, and a pleasant place to be with so much to do. The group fitness classes are awesome, my little one loves the kids zone, and I find myself wanting to go instead of dreading the thought of going to the gym. Thank you to the Y staff for all of your hard work!

Anybody that thinks they should be the only one that works out here should probably just buy some equipment and work out in their own garage. Heaven forbid you wait for a machine or don't find a front row parking spot!

First of all, I belong to other fitness centers, and this is tops and I don’t have much to complain about. I did have an incident today and I was on the treadmill and had my earbuds in and one of the staff walked by, and I pointed to empty towel dispenser with a smile on my face, and I had watched for 10 minutes with a half a dozen people walking up to it and seeing that it was empty.

Five minutes later, I get a young girl who walks up to me and says : There is another dispenser right over there and points to it, and she followed that up with “ you were being very rude”, for pointing I guess.

In retrospect I should’ve taken my earbuds out and asked her nicely if she could fill it up and I have been to the counter once I ready to do that and no one was there.

If she had something to say to me about pointing she could have simply said that: We would appreciate you talking to us about it instead of accusing me of being very rude 😳

That was followed up downstairs by a young man who needed to explain to me how to treat his staff

After reading a negative review of the Y, I’m compelled to share my own experience. Yes, this Y can be crowded at times but I attend on average 5-6 days a week and have ALWAYS found the facility to be clean and well maintained and I’ve NEVER felt it was in any way playing loose and fast w/ safety. I’ve also had 100% positive interactions w/ professional and caring staff for 5 solid years. Whether it is the cleaning crew, front desk, instructors, volunteers, management - every single employee has been courteous and gone above and beyond to be helpful consistently. My husband and I have been members since 2020 and we fully understand why so many Eugene citizens have enthusiastically joined the Y, it is because this place is not simply a formulaic gym, it is a community. We also accept and appreciate that we alone do not have a claim on the Y, EVERYONE is welcomed at this community spot and all are encouraged to make health/fitness a part of their lives. Thank you to Curt and the entire front desk, the cleaners, the instructors and every other employee for meeting the challenges in accommodating a large and diverse population and still striving to do your personal best - so many of us see you and appreciate you.

Updated 11/12. This location is currently at an occupancy stage to be a major fire Hazard. The YMCA facility at South Eugene was incredible when it opened but has since been over run with horrific crowding. The membership as of November 1 2025 was approaching 19 thousand. This number is larger than many of the towns that most of us grew up in. Yesterday between opening and 4pm Pacific Daylight Time over 2576 members had checked in not including all the staff maintenance and management present in the building and all the children in the various programs. This number likely doubled after the 6pm rush hour surge where eyewitnesses reported every single piece of equipment was in use while people were ....WAITING IN LINE to get on machines. At the end of the day the views are amazing the variety of machines is great and the pool is an added bonus with a hot tub
The lack of management oand regulation regarding membership numbers has ruined the experience for the vast majority of people spending any more than ONE hour at this location. Parking is a disaster and the deep cleaning is missed upstairs in the workout areas under the machines. The communal bathrooms on the first floor are deplorably dirty. If you are considering becoming a new member, DONT. This location is full and if a fire happens or earthquake during peak hours serious injuries are HIGHLY likely. Look elsewhere until the membership numbers correct themselves. What a shame regarding such a beautiful Facility.

I love the Y and most of the people here, but they literally suspended my membership (literally the ONE thing I had in my life) bc I forgot to clean a paint spill. Staff also unlocked and opened the bathroom while I was in there even after I told them to stop and it honestly seemed very creepy cus Im 14 and I was just tryna beat off

This Y gym rocks. I’m from the land of the working out; New York City. The complaints on this site have nothing to do with the gym, the facilities, or the instructors. I can’t believe people write reviews about their kids getting into fights with other people‘s children and say that’s the Y’s fault.
A+ gym and facility beautifully

1. Way too much chlorine in the pool, as are most YMCA's. Why isn't the pool saline, salt water, Ozonated, and/or UV light sanitized (among other much safer methods), instead of using cancer causing (and pneumonia and allergy causing) chlorine? 2. HUGE parking lot, yet only ONE (1) basketball court. I have witnessed kids and elderly/disabled people being knocked over onto the ground (huge legal liability) due to intense overcrowding on the one basketball court (when not being used for Pickleball that is !). Yes, you can play on the basketball court horizontally (instead of vertically-lengthwise), making it two alleged courts, but then it is too small, not regulation, meant for children, not adults. So, this makes adults have to play basketball with middle schoolers or smaller due to only ONE basketball court (or two mini courts). Ugggh. Basketball is the number one pick-up team sport in the USA, yet the NEW Eugene YMCA only has ONE basketball court. OUTRAGEOUS. This YMCA needs 3 basketball courts. You will be trying to play basketball and you run into small kids or elderly/disabled shooting hoops on the peripheral baskets, making it an absolute nightmare for trying to play a real, competitive game of basketball. INSANITY. // If it was not for my employer paying for my membership, I would not use this YMCA. However, I don't use it much anyway, I actually pay to use another gym due to the issue with the pool and basketball. UGGGH. // Massage chairs should be included in the high price to use this gym. Have not tried out group fitness or weight room yet. Staff is friendly.

Love the Y- it has helped me get a fitness routine going and the sauna is amazing. My only issue is that I really wish there were more fitness classes. I’m an afternoon gym goer (between 1 and 4) and it seems that most days there is nothing happening through that chunk of the day, with the occasional 1 or 2 options being full. Still enjoy this facility, and the fact that they offer scholarships is wonderful.

My 11 month old took his first steps at the splash pads 💕 The Y has been such a life-changer for our family. The staff are so friendly, and the facilities are beautiful. Leaving my babies at daycare has always been difficult, but the daycare team were so kind and supportive, which made me feel way more comfortable. So grateful for this treasure trove in our community!

The new facility is so beautiful that I feel like I’m going to a resort when I go to the gym. It truly feels luxurious, with so much space and options for working out. Additionally, we have trusted Y Care with our kids for 4 years and they really have never let us down. The kids are all members and we can use child care when we want to use the facilities. The child care hours are generous and make it easy to use the service. Our teen loves the room where only middle schoolers can hang out. He wants to go there as often as possible where he can meet other kids his age and play games. I have nothing bad to say! I love our local Y.

Traveling around the US and this is one of the nicest community gyms I’ve been to. Got a day pass w/ my boyfriend and it was discounted to $14.50 instead of the typical $18. They have great, modern equipment as well as a large selection of free weights. Everything is very clean. There were lots of families and it looked like they offered tons of classes. Sadly the sauna was closed for cleaning (every Tuesday at noon to Wednesday at noon). Theres a hot tub, massage chairs, and lap pool. Quite a few community members using the space, but didn’t have any trouble getting a good workout in.

We came from Seattle and had a very bad experience. One afternoon, my 10-year-old son was playing basketball with a other younger boy on the court. The boy was very rude. When he couldn't win the game, he pushed my son and hit him in the face. My son's teeth were bleeding. It was such a serious bullying incident, but the staff's solution was to shake hands and make peace. The bullying boy was still playing happily on the court, but my son went home crying. Don't expect to get a safe environment here, because the bullying boy will continue to beat others here.

A lot of wasted space. Definitely needs more equipment -- leg curls, leg extension for example. Gen Zers are doom scrolling away on machines; doing a real good job keeping the seat warm...

A pretty nice space with lots of weight bearing equipment, good indoor track, immaculately clean locker rooms and showers, and very friendly staff.
Its major drawback is the members. Too many, as there is no time of week or day when it is not severely overcrowded. (I plead guilty to being one of the throng.)
Also, the (mostly younger) members seem to have no sense of gym etiquette. E g., if you are on a weight bench and step away for fifteen seconds to increase dumbbell size, someone will inevitably swoop in to claim it. How many times does one have to say, 'Excuse me, I'm still using this"? And don't get me started on their sitting on a machine several minutes staring into their devices.

You now have to pay extra to play pickleball, that's fine, tennis players
had to do this, however tennis players gets the significantly better times slots more of the time slots alltogether, better equitment. You can only have 4 people playing tennis per court vs 16 on the same, converted, court playing pickleball. so I dont understand why it's the same price....

We brought our 8 month old to the baby swim class. The instructor had no idea what kids that age are developmentally capable of. He never spoke loud enough to hear what he was saying. And I believe that most lay people, even with zero swimming experience, if given a list of the activities with bullet point instructions and five minutes to prepare would have lead the class in a more engaging and enjoyable way.

I couldn't tell you what we learned in the class. He asked us everyday what skills we were working on and what we needed help with. I couldn't tell him because I do not know what we were supposed to be learning. I can't identify a skill we learned, beside me knowing how to hold my baby in the water.

Additionally, every night after going in their pool, I developed nasty white head pimples on my arms and/or legs. Gross.

I had more access at the old Y and miss it. I was able to use the yoga and exercise rooms when they were not in use to practice my dance. I was told the new Y would have more space--not true. Now they only have one room available to do so when classes are not in session--which is almost never. And when it is, even with 3 or 4 people in there, stretching or boxing or dancing or whatever, it is crowded. Sometimes another room is locked and unavailable. Seems ridiculous. I am sorry I donated to build the new Y because I have less access to it.

Great place with really nice equipment, there's just not enough of it. I feel like I put myself on a waitlist everytime I want to use the leg extension. That's the only machine that is really hard to actually get some time on.

EDIT: A new leg extension machine has been added, along with extra cardio machines and an extra bench press. While it is crowded, it really feels like a great place to meet new people from different places in life. Bumped rating from 4 to 5 stars.

I have felt so welcomed here. Starting and continuing running has been hard, but access to really nice slat treadmills has helped me reduce shin splints as I started out. Even though I was paying $12 a month, 5 minutes to my house. I had issues that I can’t control about this gym. The whole basketball court is taken during pickle ball which is essential for my weight loss playing basketball. I was 230lb, hoping to get down to 200lb, basketball would help me get there. When I was in Kansas, they always have the court open for me to play afterschool for two hours straight. Nowadays you don’t have access to an indoor basketball court in Eugene. Plus it’s always taken, I have allergies outside. So I gained to 250lbs now. One time, when I was lifting weights, I had to drop it as I couldn’t lift it without a spotter. The staff came up to me and ask me to stop making loud noises. I don’t like that, not only that, I hear them talking bad about me like I’m a loser. If you go to this gym. There’s a reason you want to wear your headphones. To avoid those bullies. There’s a horde of middle school/high school students in the ymca. It’s there playground. I can’t focus, so I just canceled my membership altogether. They hype it up too much to where too much people are going in. Respect and organization is what makes a community! Get your team together and find a solution to the problems I mentioned about my concerns, thank you.

When this location first opened in early 2024, I gave it 5 stars with all it's amazing amenities, the pool, sauna, hot tub, private showers, treadmills, a large weights and strength training area, and numerous activities and classes for all ages.
So what happens when a new venue or upgraded amenity comes to Eugene? People destroy it. Some of the most obnoxious, loud, inconsiderate members from other nearby gyms in our local area, (planet fitness on west 11th, /Pursue Fitness etc, flocked to this location and have brought their intrusive behavior to the front line in this gorgeous brand new facility that should have been reserved only for people who live in South Eugene. Oh no. Come one and come all. They are in the process of surpassing 18 thousand members. What if a FIRE or EARTHQUAKE occurred? Their would defnitely be casualties as people would get stuck in the entrances/exits trying to escape.

There are children running around upstairs in the weights area, people with their "service dogs", meat heads lifting massive weights and slamming them on the ground and worst of all, there is ZERO background music to drown it all out. Many of the shower nozzles are broken or damaged in the private changing rooms. As it typical for Eugene, there aren't enough maintenance staff. The crowding upstairs is mind blowing. You can't even move without smacking into someone. The parking lot is packed and most of the spaces are only designed for "compact cars". This isn't California!?

If you suffer from any sensory processing disorder, it is a worst night mare. Gyms are supposed to make you FEEL BETTER! This location on most weekdays or especially weekends makes you feel exhausted irritated and horrible after your workout. It's so unnecessary. It takes me 20 to 40 minutes putting myself in a quiet dark room at home after I workout, to recover from all the noise and chaos. Sad. What an incredible facility once again destroyed by the people who frequent it. It is not the facilities and beauty that would ever bring fault to Eugene. It's the people and their behavior. T his should be reported to the city and the fire marshall. DO NOT come as a new member. So many issues to fix and the building needs to be double the size. The YMCA does not care. They want your money! Apalling.

Was a former member of the Y at prior location. Thought that the Y would continue to welcome low income families at the same rate and application process. No. The rates increased and while I was able to afford it then and was able to include my family without it increasing the rate. Now it's twice as much, and upon visiting the facility I noticed a disparaging lack of a significant number of people of color working there, only youth are working front desk, no persons with disabilities working on staff, if there are I haven't seen any. Decided to apply and spend more time so that I can confirm or change my current observations. I work in the health care industry and too many of my clients who are on S.S.I, low income, or low income families say it's still too expensive to join. As I look on the amenities, so many of the classes cost $ and even additional $ for use of equipment. Used to have a gym facilities member help you with a basic workout routine plan, no fee, now you have to pay a trainer to do that. All our tax payers money and funds from donors seem to have paid for an exclusive Y experience for the majority and not the minority for which the Y was created forto help the community help those in need of healing their life and a safe place to go to feel valued and part of a community teaching these humanitarian and social values to the youth, now I speak to the youth at the desk that have ́no patience and empathy or time to listen to those who value these important principles of community and philanthropy and only express impatience and desire to move on to the next customer. Ill be expressing my thoughts again in a month or so. Have a good day Eugene.

I really like the location, equipment, classes, etc. The only problem for me is that it is that it's so incredibly crowded that there is no longer any time of day I can comfortably workout. There's way too many members and too few equipment. Even the waiting lists are full for certain classes. It feels too competitive and stressful to do the things I enjoy, so I had to cancel my family membership. Ended up signing up for a more expensive gym, but I'm willing to pay more for less stress.

The YMCA offers great facilities, especially for kids, with its basketball courts and other fitness amenities. However, there is a significant issue with some of the kids' behavior, particularly in the basketball court area. Many of the young members are loud, disruptive, and frequently use bad language, creating an unpleasant environment for adults and other gym-goers.
The noise level often gets out of control, making it hard for others to enjoy their time at the gym. In addition, the disrespectful language and lack of sportsmanship from some kids is concerning. This behavior not only disrupts the experience for others but also sets a poor example for those who come to the YMCA to stay active and respectful.
While the YMCA provides valuable opportunities for physical activity, it’s crucial that stronger measures be taken to address this issue. Ensuring that kids are held accountable for their actions, especially in public spaces like the basketball court, would improve the overall atmosphere and make it a more enjoyable place for everyone.

I am a fairly new member to the Y and thoroughly enjoying my membership.

In addition to yoga and aerobics classes, I made the decision to work with a personal trainer, Mike Moos. He’s patient, knowledgeable, and ensures I am using the machines and weights properly. Most importantly, he has encouraged and pushed me to progress more quickly than I would have if working on my own. Best decision I’ve made. I actually look forward to my workout sessions!
If you are thinking of working with a personal trainer I highly recommend Mike!

Not friendly for summer or winter pick up camps for kids. Summertime no one could tell me where my daughter was. Ok, new to everyone place and no systems down for picking up kids, I understand, but very frustrating. Now, raining and cold, went inside the main lobby where I dropped her off the last two mornings and go to pick her up. Staff said go outside and go through the playground? Ok. Well not really, doors are locked and a wet sign saying to call a certain phone number. Well I left my phone in the care because it’s raining. Now I’m circling back to the main lobby again where 6 people are just standing and BS’ing. Looks at me like I’m an inconvenience as I told them I don’t have my phone and your doors are locked. Then one of them finally took me to the room my daughter was in. Staff don’t know what staff works there and staff thought the person showing me the room was a parent. This is frustrating. Just have a single place to drop off and pick up, use walkie-talkies to communicate with one another. All that money wasted on an updated building but horrible procedures for camps especially with kids.

Well, I am extremely disappointed. I am not the kind of person to leave reviews but with the experience I had at this “inclusive” YMCA I have to let you know that if you are a family with a special needs child or family member think twice before going here. We came in to take our kids swimming with a family day pass and swimming is our sons favorite activity that he doesn’t get much of during the colder months. In the summer we are members at a pool and he swims almost daily. We have taught him how to swim. He is very high support needs ASD. When we went into swim, dad was going to be in the pool with him and sister who is on swim team as well. We got into the pool area and got into the pool, we didn’t realize a test was needed to be in the pool without a floatation device. While I do understand the importance of water safety I went a spoke with two lifeguards to ask if there were any accommodations that could be made for my son (as well as making them aware of his disability) to demonstrate he could in fact swim. I was immediately told no and brushed off like I was being a huge inconvenience. Then we went to the smaller pool that was sectioned off and realized even in shallow water a test was needed. I asked once again and was told no this is how it works. He needs a life vest (which sensory wise he can’t stand) to even be in a small sliver of the pool where he could reach. The area he was allowed in had kids MUCH younger than him with their parents. Talk about a huge letdown. Then the guards continued to blow their whistles at us every time we took our son into the pool with a life vest and he was unhappy and was trying to remove it (we were on it). We felt pretty singled out as it is hard enough to coordinate family outings. They seemed to make it 10x worse for us. It was a horrible experience and very disappointing from a facility that has a mission statement of inclusion, as well as being able to provide appropriate accommodations.

I called and spoke my concerns to a supervisor and was told the aquatics manager would call me back, they never did, it’s has been more than two weeks. They simply don’t care. The supervisor did apologize and told me there are absolutely accommodations that should have been offered to allow our son to swim especially since he was in the water with dad. We just weren’t given them.

So again. This isn’t the place of inclusion they claim they to be.

The Eugene Y is an amazing resource to our community. A huge thank you to all those who helped build the new facility and the Y staff who help keep this place running 7 days a week. I especially love how this is such a welcoming place for everyone, and especially for children, youth, and families. While it can often be busy at certain popular times of day, the fact that it’s an available resource for everyone is amazing. It’s not an exclusive private gym - but rather, an inclusive community-wide gym. Staff are consistently kind and welcoming too. My family and I truly appreciate all the Y is and what they represent. As much as I hate to say it, it may be time to return to Planet Fitness. I have read fellow reviews about the layout and it actually was not designed well. There should be an entirely separate building for children. On Friday, I came and asked why there were 80 people in the pool aquatics area at once and the lifeguard LEO said it was normal and "just too bad and you can deal with it whether you like it or not" SERIOUSLY!!!!! Mens and womens sauna areas should be separate and sandals should be provided and mandatory in both. The pool needs to be about double the size and as always, the free weights area is a disaster because it's not big enough. Eugene facilities need to be massive to support our extremely high population and all this growth. Compact parking spots are not acceptable. They should have purchased the field across the property and put in a parking garage that was like partially glass or something pretty that didn't obstruct the beautiful Spencer's butte view too much. The front desk design heards people into doors via a scan kiosk which again isn't wide enough for all the people. Lines often form and it can test even the most patient. If you have anxiety take your PRN medications before you go. It's a gorgeous facility and really nice to have but it just isn't big enough..... sighs. In response to the 47 million dollars it took to build, it shouldn't have been a big deal to ask for a band aide when i cut my wrist on one of the weights upstairs. The front desk acted like I asked for a Grilled Salmon!!! LOL. Lord.

Generally clean and a good place to workout. Workout area needs some music though. I was pretty disappointed Sunday when I bought a day pass and tried to head to the sauna around 4:45 PM but the whole aquatics area was closed with no signage. The Y doesn't close for 2 more hours at 7pm. A middle aged woman wearing all black and carrying keys, walked up to the locked door, opened it, told me 'Were closed.' And shut the door in my face.

After showering, I witnessed 3-4 more people walk up and try to open the aquatics door. I found out it was closed due to staff training after talking to other frustrated members. Would've been much nicer if aforementioned staff member kindly told me why they were closed to train staff instead of slamming the door in my face after saying 2 words to me.

Simple customer service can go a long way to retain paying customers

I am a long time Eugene Family YMCA member. At age 66, I was preparing for a serious 150 mile backpacking trip along the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California. Mike Moos, a personal trainer with the YMCA, designed an exercise plan and worked with me for 7 weeks to achieve this goal. Mike is incredible!! His understanding of the body and adapting the vast array of machines and weights at the YMCA to meet my goal was exactly what I needed.

Mike understands the balance between pushing a person to incrementally improve, while having fun and knowing when to rest or take it easy. More important, he is just a great person to work with! He gave me the confidence and the feedback to really improve my overall physical shape.

He is also dedicated to each of his clients. For one week, while the YMCA was do some short term remodeling, he met with me in a yoga/dance area to ensure I would not lose valuable momentum and provided a completly different set of exercises that were incredible.

Now that my backpacking trip is over, I will always go back to Mike Moos to review and be an integral part of my overall wellness.

I would not take your kids here for the pool. The Y prides themselves on using the raptor software for safety. Which is a big improvement since that wasn’t always the case. The issue is how little enforcement is taken at the front doors. Making it incredibly easy for anyone to enter the facilities, the changing rooms, pool, and I’m sure the rest of the building. I only took my family here twice recently (for the pool). I quickly realized that whether you are a member, a non member visiting, or someone who has not paid the front desk, anyone and I mean anyone is able to simply walk in and go anywhere in the building. Both times I visited I watched 30-50 people just walk in the building without checking in, scanning a membership card, or speaking with the front desk. There is better security at planet fitness or even Bi-Mart.

The new Y has some staff issues. I was leaving this morning and walking to my car when an employee yelled at me and said not to leave from a back door. I said it wasn't me and he said..."yes, it was, I saw you". Really, you saw me...talk about jumping to conclusions. I just happened to be walking down the sidewalk after leaving from the front which I always do and I heard an alarm and a man walk out of the door. I'm tall and wearing a hat and sunglasses. He was much shorter without a hat and glasses. I assume he heard the alarm and came to the back door and saw me walking by and made a bad assumption. So, not only did he lie since it wasn't me and therefore couldn't have seen me, but he then compounded his assumption by accusing me of lying. I'm a senior who prides himself on being honest. To be accused of lying about leaving from a back door is totally ridiculous. Basically, the staff here are all young and have a lot to learn. Serious training problem for management. This guy looked a bit older. He had dark hair and was stocky. This happened on 9-4 around 11:00 am. I'm sure mgmt could figure out who this guy was. NOTE to MGMT: Tell employees not to accuse their paying customers of lying. Really bad form.

My partner and I have been members of the YMCA for some time now, and overall, we are very pleased with the gym and the variety of classes offered. We've managed to find a schedule that helps us avoid large crowds, which is a nice bonus.

However, there is a significant issue that needs addressing: the sauna. This co-ed, shared space for individuals as young as 14 is often misused by some male members. It's become an almost everyday occurrence to see grown men wearing inappropriate attire, such as underwear or just a towel, instead of a proper swimsuit.

As a woman, this makes me extremely uncomfortable and it's disappointing considering the high monthly fees we pay. Despite having reported this to the front desk, there have been no changes or signs put up to enforce proper attire. The lifeguards, who are often young, do not actively monitor or enforce the rules inside the sauna. I think because they are young, they’re intimidated to actually enforce the rules to older members, but it needs to be done.

To improve this situation, I strongly recommend placing clear signs in the men's locker room and around the sauna area stating that swimsuits are mandatory. This will ensure a comfortable and respectful environment for all members. If this issue persists, I will escalate my complaints to higher management.

While we love the gym overall, this matter urgently needs to be addressed, it’s ruined our last few experiences at the gym.

EDIT: Since they decided to comment back in a snarky manner. if they read my post they would know I said I already reported this to the welcome center and it was totally ineffective LMAO. I wasn’t going to write anything else here but that reply was a bit rude so here’s what else happened. The director of aquatics called me and informed me they cannot ask if someone is wearing anything under a towel. They can only intervene if the towel falls off and they expose themselves to people. what kind of logic is this? They won’t put signs that say no underwear. She informed me “swim attire” means something different to everyone. Not sure how underwear are swim attire but ok :). She also told me to report anytime I see someone I think is wearing underwear to the lifeguards. So I have been (even though that’s absolutely not my job and I’m not here to monitor people, that’s why I wrote the review, it’s their job). The way this is being handled is very off putting. It seems as though they don’t like real critique. Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have been working with personal trainer, Mike Moos, for the last couple of weeks and it has been great! As a plus size woman, I was nervous about working with a personal trainer and wasn't sure how I would be treated by him. Mike has been incredibly supportive, understanding, and creative with his workouts that best fit my needs as a beginner. He pushes me when needed, but not in a way that is intimidating. Mike is charismatic and very knowledgeable with helping me obtain my goals. He pushes me hard every session, but is considerate of my bodily limit. Again, as a plus size woman, I was beyond intimidated to work with a trainer, but his professional approach to the sessions tailored specifically for me and my fitness level, has been greatly appreciated. It's been a joy working with him so far.

This new facility is so beautiful, and is well-staffed by super helpful, friendly professionals. Not only is the building itself amazing, but my experience there has been enormously enhanced by my sessions with Mike Moos. Mike is one of those rare people who is able to meet every client where they are, and then to teach and incentivize them to progress. He has THE BEST personal and professional manner, warm and encouraging, while being obviously skilled and educated in his field. His goal is to help us be healthier and stronger without injury, and his careful, but very encouraging approach has caused me to see progress in strength, balance and endurance after just 4 sessions. I have learned so much from Mike about how to train so that even at my age, I can progress without risk. Mike has made my times at the Y a very special experience.

The new Eugene Family YMCA is amazing! I joined the last week of December 2023, when they first opened. As a long-time runner I wanted to start adding weight training to my fitness routine, but I had no idea how to start. Enter certified fitness trainer Mike Moos. I met Mike during the open house. I scheduled an initial orientation where Mike gave me a tour of the 2nd floor Wellness Center. This is where the Y has all of the treadmills, elliptical machines, etc. as well as all of the weightlifting machines and free weights. I then had a consultation with Mike where he learned about my fitness goals and health history. After that we started working together 3 times a week for one- hour sessions and it has been wonderful. Mike is a wonderful trainer - he is incredibly knowledgeable, encouraging, and keeps mixing up my training routine to keep it fun and challenging. After working with Mike for the last 4 months, I am seeing big gains in my overall strength, and I ran the Eugene Half Marathon with a 5 minute PR ! Whether you are brand new to weight training or if you have lifted for years but are looking to learn more, I would highly recommend Mike Moos as a trainer. He will help you achieve your goals, and you will have a ton of fun while doing it.

So far my English is not very good and one leg is a little longer than the other. Therefore, it is important to me what kind of staff the club has, and of course the bicycles. I've been a client of the club for about three weeks, it's not long yet. I don’t know many people at all, but those I was able to talk to were all very friendly, but that’s secondary. First of all, these are highly qualified, client-oriented people who are very interested in their work. Bicycles are a different story. I've ridden different brands, but this is my first time riding these. I will not write about the shortcomings of others, I will describe the advantages of these. Very thoughtful options for adjusting the fit are primary, the bike can be covered in various gadgets, but if your body is not positioned correctly, then your muscles do not work effectively, and many do not work at all. The multi-position steering wheel simply obliges you to load the muscles of your upper body no less than in the gym. Bottle cages, there are already two of them, in case of a long workout. Dumbbell clips can also be used for extra dry T-shirts. And of course the screen. Very simple and effective. It shows everything that happens to your body every second, knowing all the numbers you can influence and adjust your training. It also shows exactly what load each leg was exerting. I have only seen this option in special athlete training centers. Bottom line: the biomechanics of bicycles are so well thought out that beginners will find it pleasant and comfortable to get involved, and this bicycle will squeeze out all the juices from an advanced user in a fun and playful way. I have no idea who chose them, but special thanks to him and HR for an excellent team. Alex.

I am very bummed that I can't go to her classes now that I am starting my 8-5 job this week. Please give her more time slots! me and my partner absolutely love the new ymca. we do yoga classes weekly, play basketball, walk on the track, swim and go in the sauna. this place gets over run by kids at certain hours but if you figure out the right schedule it’s completely fine. we do wish they would’ve put more space in the basketball area (maybe a larger space and more hoops) since it’s always very crowded and this was a big reason we joined. another big reason we joined was the hot tub and it hasn’t been opened a single day since we have had our membership (joined in mid january). we ask for updates at least once a week and get told the same thing which is starting to be very annoying. overall it’s a good place with nice people, just wish some things were different. i see a lot of people complaining about the price on here and it’s actually a great price for all the classes and amenities that are given!

This place is a mess. So many broken machines not getting fixed. Hot tub has never worked or been open. Seems like management incompetence. Machines are always full because there are limited amounts due to broken ones and high demand, and oh yeah they try to charge you for simple classes that should be included in the monthly dues or fees. Make sure if you want a yoga class you set an alarm to wake up to book it due to the way you must book 2 days prior and they book up in minutes time so fingers crossed. . Good luck getting your moneys worth out of this donkey show. Basically a great place for parents to let their kids play instead of raising them. Another poorly ran Eugene institution 🤦‍♂️

Sadly disappointed with a couple things at the new Y. First, the cleanliness in the shower/locker rooms. I understand this facility is BUSY but it’s brand new and the showers do not reflect that. With how high the monthly prices are (which is another reason I knocked off a star) and how busy this place is, you’d think the showers would be cleaned more than once a day??? God forbid you work out any later than 5 PM and those showers look like all of Eugene and their pets have come through for a shower, twice! Also, the scanning system to get into the gym is a nightmare. They want you to use the app to scan in but you have to put your phone on the floor or move it around back and forth for the scanner to work, all while 10 people behind you are waiting to scan in too. Then if you ask for a physical scan card they’re all out and the counter staff are always busy so they can’t easily check you in when the scanner isn’t working (which is always). Also, I saw there are age restrictions for the gym area but the last couple times we’ve gone, the gym has been busy and lots of kids roaming and hogging up machines just to play/mess around. Again, with how much money they’re wanting to charge, it just seems like there are a lot of inconveniences that are very well avoidable to make the environment feel worth the money but I’m starting to feel ill have to go back to cheaper gym options in Eugene that at a minimum are able to keep locker rooms clean and prioritize keeping machines open to those actually wanting to workout. Not to mention, they’re charging $70 a month for a single person membership and you have to pay extra for all the cool new classes and even massage chairs! That price is SO high compared to other gyms in Eugene and yet you STILL don’t have access to all they offer, they gotta up charge you again. I was willing to pay these higher prices because I knew it was a new facility and they were going to have lots of cool new things to offer but now that I know (almost) everything costs extra and the new facility isn’t even being kept clean…doesn’t seem worth it sadly.

Was ignored at the front desk and when I asked questions I got no answers “can I park my stroller here” I tried to check out the kid zone with the two children I nanny ( I’m teacher qualified and background checked) and they couldn’t let me back there. The new facility is absolutely beautiful. I was so excited to make this my home gym but today (after 4 days of working out in the same slides) I was told I’m not allowed to wear open toed shoes in the gym. Which is understandable, but I was told I’m only allowed to wear tennis shoes and crocs aren’t even allowed. I double checked the rules posted on the gym wall and nothing mentioned open toed shoes at all. Downstairs the front desk was confused as to why I was even told this as they usually don’t enforce it. I asked for a complete rule list because I was embarrassed that happened and would like to avoid further breaking the rules, and they kindly printed me out a page from the member handbook. I’ve been purchasing a day pass the past few days as I’m awaiting my financial assistance to be cleared so I wasn’t even aware of the member handbook or any of the other MANY rules listed on the page given. I found so many rules in there I had no idea about! Apparently use of cell phones is completely prohibited in workout areas? (including taking any pictures/videos) Which is weird since I saw so many people with their phones out the past few days.
Edit: Since the ymca replied stating it could be confusing to see the rules in their huge space, NEITHER of the rules I mentioned were on ANY of the walls in the gym- which I made sure to read before using the space.

The facility is lovely and clean and does not smell - unlike every other gym I've been in. I'm still in the process of getting to know the place. Everyone has been very nice and helpful, although they are still getting organized, which is understandable. The main issue I have is that the fitness class descriptions online don't describe (with few exceptions) who the class is most suitable for - the ultra fit, beginners, seniors, etc. Also for the pools, the online schedule is a list of which pools are open for which activities on a specific day at a specific hour. This is time consuming to use to plan. It would be much better if they had a calendar format available online which showed a consistent schedule by day for each pool, so we could plan at a glance. Or at least use a format for the pool schedule similar to that of Eugene Parks and Rec.

Y’all are charging an arm and a leg for y’all’s monthly fee. First YMCA’s are a charitable non-profit donation gym that is supposed to serve the community non-matter what individuals income. YMCA.com-“The Family YMCA is a non-profit, charitable 501c3 organization. Annually, we raise funds so that everyone can be a part of the Y regardless of their ability to pay”. So you could really charge whatever price you want on a monthly fee. And for a gym that is supposed to cater to the youth and elderly you would think they would have much lower monthly fee or discounted rates…I understand y’all upgraded. Edit: Still having MAJOR issues with them. They are not trauma informed, the staff is rude, and not knowledgeable. I CALLED in to sign up for Summer Camp. They signed me up for Summer Camp and next year school care since I was having issues doing it myself. We went over the health form, I asked several times if I was signed up for Summer and was told YES. Fast forward, to now, 2 months later they have no record of signing me up for Summer. All they could say was sorry. They said they could get me on wait lists, however, when I said I’m having difficulty with my account and their online system isn’t user friendly and it causing me anxiety they kept saying (Claudia said..) That I could do it myself, and told me how. I kept asking, can’t you do it? She was nice about it but definitely not logical because it was obvious I could not. They are also going to get an extra $1,050 for watching my disabled child, and during the last break got him a rent for his disability needs that they were letting other children in. This place is RIDICULOUS and should have some major changes done.

Not inclusive of different disabilities, I’ve dealt with several rude staff and later found out by higher ups that the people below them but still in supervision didn’t follow protocol. I’ve specifically dealt with Shelly in development being rude to me when I had to pick up my son with disabilities, granted he had a super hard day but she was really rude to me, snapped at me, didn’t ask what they could do to support him in the future and when she finally got told to say that kept following up “to be honest this might not be the program for him,” and could tell she didn’t want to deal with it.

Great facilities, great people, and great culture. I love the Eugene YMCA. But this place needs to address something...

Ever since Covid, the Eugene YMCA has decided to minimize their hours of service on Friday nights/the weekends. As somebody who works 40+ hrs a week, and doesn't get off work until 5pm Mon-Sun, I would LOVE to be able to come to the YMCA after work, but they have decided since Covid to start closing earlier in the afternoon. I understand Covid hurt profit margins, but I can speak for SO many people when I say we would LOVE for you guys to remain open until 9pm on Fridays-Sundays. While I love this place to death, I will unfortunaltely have to begin working out somewhere else if the Y is not able to be consistent with their hours. I understand staffing is hard on weekend nights, but there are so many members who would enjoy using the facilities later in the afternoon on Fridays-Sundays, but the Y is deciding not to go back.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change this I want to remain a member but it is becoming hard...

Super friendly staff, very helpful and kind. Great vibes, facility is pretty good, sometimes parking is a little tight but usually there's plenty. Tons of great programs for adults, seniors and kids.

Very good but please add a GYM ONLY subscription, people like me pay $50 a month and NEVER use the other amenities. We only want the gym. And for gods sake take CNN of the tv and play some National Geographic, something everyone can enjoy. The environment is great here though, it ranges from little children, to teenagers, to college students, to middle aged divorced men all the way to elders. I love the environment. 4.2/5 overall.

They have a nice staff and provide much needed safe and quality child care. Building is old but so am I and someday there will be a new building. Lots of virtual classes available too.

We love the Y and can't wait to see their new facility when it opens next year. You can drop in, but check the website to see the hours each area is available (like open gym, rec swim, etc). The staff is upbeat and energetic and the place is kept pretty clean.

If you’re looking to utilize the basketball court for… I don’t know, basketball, be prepared to be scolded by management for playing full court. No clarity on why we aren’t allowed to play full court and we were met with hostility when asking for reasoning.

Brought 15 people to the Y to play full court pick up as we have done for the past 5 years Monday Wednesday Friday at 10 AM, you’d think they would’ve alerted us or provided a decent reason for not allowing BASKETBALL ON THE BASKETBALL COURT before taking our money.

Tip for management, post a sign on the wall or alert people that “full court isn’t allowed.” Horrendous costumer service all around.

What a great staff greeting us (Curt & Kari)! They seem to work very well together. Kari took me for a tour of the facility. Clean & well staffed. So many classes to get involved in. I'm excited to get started.

For having family in the name they are not very family friendly. Guess it’s just for adults who they can get more money from.

Edited to respond to owner:

We understand policy, that’s not the issue. We have a problem with your staff treating children as though they don’t deserve the same respect as adults. Being dismissive and taking down to kids who are excited to be out for the first time in a year is a great way to ruin the Y for them. Children are human beings and deserve to be treated as such.

Our daughter just finished a basketball clinic and I can’t say enough positive things about Coach Isiah & Coach Connor. My daughter went in with the mindset she couldn’t play basketball and has now finished her 5 week clinic begging for it not to end . I can’t thank them enough and hope that we can see more clinics on the schedule for year round basketball!

Clean gym but only 1 full court to use. Guys usually playing basketball Monday Wednesday and Friday 1030-1230 around lunch. 10 to get in if adult and 8 for students. Best runs on Fridays but it’s all really hit or miss.

The YMCA kids basketball program is outstanding. The coaches are required to have knowledge of the sport, the referees are phenomenal, and the team selection process is fair and not influenced by loud parents (in other words the exact opposite of KidSports.) The only reason I can't go all the way to 5 stars is the team sizes. There are often too many kids on the team so the play time and team cohesiveness is minimal. I would imagine they could create more teams but there's likely not enough qualified coaches. In the end, I'd much rather my son play for a qualified coach than somebody who has no clue what they're doing.

I have been going to the Y for over 30 years. The facility is ok. The parking is impossible. It is often crowded but the thing that truly amazes me is that in all this time I have very rarely been spoken to except for a woman that was rude because the yoga class was crowded even though the instructor said there was room. I go from force of habit.

The Y has been an important part of my self care for 20 years. Thier staff is beyond superb, their core values align with mine, they are inclusive, and I feel more balanced and well thanks to thier supportive environment. I appreciate all they have to offer. And my son thoroughly enjoys himself, too. It's a beautiful community to be a part of.

Everyone at the Y is so darned nice!!! Walking through the doors I immediately felt like family. And the more I learn about all of the things they offer, the more there is to love. They have something for everyone and I think they make our community a better place.

Very inconsistent just last week charged us $3 for a family pass for the small pool, and any other time was charge $3 to use the small pool. Today they wanted to charge us $23 and says they've always charged that. They also have let bigger kids into the small pool and the life guards have let the bigger kids play with a ball spiking them around and almost hitting the little kids and the baby I was with.

I needed to get my son into the after school care and it was full BEFORE registration opened to the public because current members get priority. I had left several messages and emails the WEEK prior to registration all of which went unanswered. I work far away from my sons school and now I am out of options. Very Very disappointed. Registration should be open to all from the get go to keep it fair.

There are lots of things to do as a member but the facility itself is extremely run down and grungy looking. There are tiles missing and chipped in the pool area as well as the locker room (especially in the steam room). The tiles themselves look dingy. The customer service leaves much to be desired. Will not be renewing.

We enrolled my son in the winter basketball clinic with coaches Isiah, Shawntel, and Dan. I thought they did an excellent job and although it was only 5 classes, I saw major improvement in all aspects of the game. Very glad we were a part of it and look forward to another camp this the crew from Kelly middle school.

The Basketball team is already big enough and then its okay to add players towards the end of the season. When the parents have already paid for a full season for their kido to play. Then they even get now less playing time. Not cool! Beacuse its all about YMCA getting as much money as they can from parents and have these huge teams. I would rather pay a higher fee to get good refs ,coaches (that communicate to us), with smaller treams. Not impressed.

It’s an amazing gym. They got everything you need, plus if I’m going to pay monthly membership fees I’m happier knowing my money stays in the community keeping a vital service open to the many that rely on it.

Bigger gyms may be able to stay open 24/7 but the staff can’t possibly love their jobs as much and you won’t get as many services as you do from a membership with the YMCA.

Check it out.
