We dropped in here twice on our visit to Portland. Sean and coach James were super welcoming and helpful. Vibes are great, very well-suited for us who want a fun, safe, sweaty workout without the competitive gym-bro-dude BS. Weβll be back on our next trip.

I've been a member of Intrepid Athletics for over two years and I still look forward to going to this gym. I am continuing to seeing growth in my strength, technique and knowledge throughout my time here. The Functional Fitness programming offers a blend of strength and conditioning that keeps me on my toes and prevents me from being bored. The monthly Strongperson classes are always a blast and something I look forward to.
Sean and Ruth are extremely knowledgable and bring each of their strengths to each class. They can tailor any of the programming to work around any issues and make the work out right for you. They regularly help me work on specific goals of mine and check in on the progress.
The community at Intrepid is wonderful. I enjoy seeing everyone at the gym and am always excited to see them in the wild (outside of the gym).
I highly recommend Intrepid Athletics. From the level of attention and knowledge the coaches provide, the programming, the community and the growth I've experienced, Intrepid is an excellent gym.

If I hadn't moved on short notice, I'd still be going here. Saw results quickly, received expert guidance even when I kept repeating rookie gym mistakes.
Big focus on form and avoiding injury while building strength the right way. Inclusive crowd, friendly folks just trying to get stronger.

Hands down best gym in Portland!
I was looking for strength training and morning group classes. After trying several others in the area, Intrepid is the clear winner.
The coaches are experts and explain everything clearly with a focus on structure. Especially if youβre new to lifting or getting back into a fitness routine (like me!), this is a great place, and they have all kinds of options for those who are more advanced. They offer lots of corrections and modifications.
Iβm someone who hesitated at the βcrossfitβ label, but Intrepid has a welcoming atmosphere and focus on doing whatβs right for your body.
As a bonus, everyone is just good people. I canβt recommend intrepid enough!

Comprehensive strength and conditioning. I'm in my late 30's and over the last few years, Intrepid Athletics, its coaches and community have helped me grow stronger, dial in technique, and understand muscle groups more than ever. I'm still PR'ing and learning new tricks.

Ruth, Sean, and Matt are incredibly welcoming, inclusive, knowledgeable, and motivating coaches and have created a positive and community-based environment here. Intrepid is an excellent place to improve your overall fitness. The gym is also very well-equipped with things like Atlas stones, Olympic lifting equipment, kettlebells, sandbags, rowing machines, assault bikes, bumper plates, sleds, boxes, etc.

I have been at Intrepid for over three years and I'm still in awe of the thoughtful coaching, internal community building, and fun workouts they craft. EVERY SINGLE COACH is wonderful, and brings a unique skillset and individualized way that they work with their athletes. I have never felt more included nor had a more consistent routine than at Intrepid. Thank you for all of the years of fitness and fun!

We live nearby and love the community vibe of this gym. The owners are super nice, too! We work with Sean and he is excellent about meeting us where we are while challenging us to level up. Great place, great people!

Sean, Ruth and Matt have build an amazing community of open, respectful and fun individuals that value diversity and inclusion.
Their number one priority is the safety and well-being of athletes, focusing and obsessing over the getting right movement and technique down.
The programming is well thought out with an overall long term focus. The workouts can be tailored to different levels and are challenging.
A real life changer for me personally.

I have been an Intrepid PDX member for over 3 years now and happy to call this gym home. Recently, I moved (what I thought was) too far away to keep coming to Intrepid and joined another gym closer to my house. Within a month, I was missing Ruth, Sean, Matt and the whole vibe of the gym so much that I HAD to come back. Best decision ever!
The instruction, inclusiveness and care these coaches share with everyone is better than you'd ever see at the typical x-fit gym. If you're just down the street on MLK, or waaaaay across town, it is WORTH it to come these coaches in action. There is Strongperson, Olympic weightlifting, and traditional x-fit programmed workouts. There is something for any and every one, no matter what skill level. The coaches genuinely care about YOU.
No pressure, no hype, no BS...just a good, hard fun workout that gets results. The WODs at Intrepid PDX are the best stress relief, especially during what seems to be the craziest year to date. If you're looking for a small, close-knit, family-owned gym, Intrepid PDX is the place to be. Highly recommended for community fitness!

I am a physical therapist, so I'm really picky about gym safety and good coaching. I went to a class at every Crossfit gym in Portland before I chose Intrepid as my home gym. They are AWESOME. It's a great community of people, and the coaches are attentive, informed and don't take any chances with people's safety. I have been going here for more than a year, and I am stronger and happier for it! I can't recommend them highly enough.

Great people go there, it seems like a good community, but I just had a bad experience. I've been doing CrossFit for a number of years. I bought a 10 pack. Unfortunately I re-injured myself one punch into the use of the service. The 10 pack has a 3 month limit. You have to use it all within three months. They had zero flexibility on this. They would not hold it or extend the timeframe. I get it, everything is "scaleable" right, well sorry sometimes you just need some time off and don't want to sub body-weight squats for toes-to-bar (etc. etc. etc.). I think some flexibility would have gone a long ways in this situation.
Also, and mind you I've only been there twice so far, the warm ups are generic and uninspiring. The preparation for the specific intense movements of the workout didn't seem to be reflected in the movement preparation. This is just something that is on the radar of every athlete who has injuries.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the owner, he was very nice and told us our options (participate in open gym or the class). We didnβt know what the class was doing at the time as it was a Saturday morning and we were visiting from out of town so we decided to just lift on our own. It is a nice facility and they have everything you need to work out.
If you live in the area they also have Olympic lifting classes and a team so if you are into Oly only this is the box for you. I would consider this box if I lived in the Portland area.

Excellent coaching by Coaches Ruth and Sean who place a strong emphasis on form, technique, and injury prevention. Great Crossfit and Strongman programming for experienced and beginners alike. Best part is the fantastic community at Intrepid!
