I've been going to Justin Olson's senior fitness class on days when it's too rainy for a bike ride, and I think I've finally found something that I will continue with. Justin is a great teacher, good at modeling the various exercises you're going to do, clear at explaining them, and really experienced at managing the pacing, so you're always busy and working, stretching and strengthening without feeling abused! I've just joined up, but it's clear that his classes love him--often clap at the end. He has an easy line of chatter--new places to eat, weather, traffic, etc--, sometimes attracting gentle kidding in response. Justin understands the role this kind of community can play, and reinforces it, last week putting in a reservation at a neighborhood restaurant for those who wanted to join him for lunch. He's both skilled and a natural--impressive.

Justin has a great approach for working with seniors like me who weren't particularly athletic or gym oriented prior to retirement. This is a review from David Mckinney for my trainer Justin Olson. Many years ago I first started to work with Justin at LAC when I was younger and much more fit. He helped me gain strength and stamina as my program expanded at a comfortable pace. Justin listens and assesses his clients on an individualized basis that makes for positive progress. After a lapse in exercising for several years and having several serious surgeries, I was thrilled to be able to rejoin LAC and work with Justin. And true to my earlier experience, Justin quickly and accurately assessed my physical and emotional condition and developed a routine that was comfortable and yet progressively helpful. I am so grateful for the steady and thoughtful attention he provided so that I regained strength, balance and improved stamina so that I could reengage in the more active life I desire. He wisely confirmed with my cardiologist that there were no restrictions and continues to adjust my program so that I move in a positive direction. He is definitely an asset to LAC.

My husband and I worked with Justin Olson for years. My husband passed away in 2019. I kept coming back to the gym. Justin is a top-notch instructor. He is kind, patient, thoughtful and so good at what he does. His classes were the best!
I have recently cancelled my membership at the gym because I suffer from constant vertigo and imbalance and permanently use a walker and, at age 87, I no longer drive. I so enjoyed my years at the Lloyd Gym and am grateful to my time spent there with Justin as my mentor. He is simply the BEST!!!

I've worked with Justin Olson for over 6 months now and he's been great to work with! We're always talking about how we can shift our workouts together to get the results I seek, and he's super receptive to feedback. He is genuinely interested in making sure that I get what I want from our time together and is constantly challenging himself and me to push myself in new ways. Also, he changes up our workout routines all the time, so it's never boring. Lloyd has also invested in new workout equipment and set up different workout stations, so it never feels too crowded and there are many options for working out in different ways.

I did a lot of research before choosing LAC and it's by far the best deal in town. I've been training with Chase for about three months now and it's the best thing I've done for myself! It's been a struggle to get back into the gym the past few years and I finally came to terms that I needed a trainer to help jumpstart me. Within minutes of our first consultation, I knew Chase was going to be the perfect fit for me. She's kind, caring, funny, great teacher and motivator. But most importantly, she listens! I have a lot of back and feet issues; whenever I feel physically uncomfortable, I let Chase know and she is able to come up with alternative exercises or helps me stretch. I've had experiences in the past with other trainers and instructors where I felt my concerns were not heard/addressed and their one size fits all solution was to tell me to try to do better at it π Chase has never made me feel bad about not being able to continue an exercise or needing to rest a bit longer. Since training with Chase, I feel stronger physically and mentally and actually enjoy my training sessions. The gym can be an intimidating place for a new person and I highly recommend anyone to get started with Chase to ease into it.

Probably the one word I would give, especially durning CODIV, is SAFE! The LAC has made an extra effort to make sure you are in a safe, secure and comfortable environment. The staff is great, especially the trainers, who are there to help you achieve your fitness goals. Give them a try because youβll notice the difference from the get-go compared to those national corporate gym. Besides youβll be helping a locally own and operate establishment that has 40+ years of service in Portland.

I was attracted to his low key demeanor and the significant amount of teaching he did with clients.

I have been a member at Lloyd Athletic club for years, but about only 10 months ago started working with a personal trainer there consistently. I would highly recommend my trainer, Berk. Berk has been amazing. He's smart, motivational and has guided me on a journey to be able to achieve some quantifiable results, weight loss and building lean muscle, even helping guide my home workouts. Overall, it's a great place, a safe space for every shape, age and gender, not a meat market. The trainers can help to build routines for success at home, virtually or safely in person. These days, especially, the gym is kept clean and sanitized, everyone is masked, distanced and feels safe. Highly recommend!

I have been seeing Carlee at Lloyd Personal Training since last August though due to traveling and then the pandemic, I didn't have access to training from January through June. Now that the gym has reopened in Phase 1, I have started back for the past few weeks. Carlee and the staff at Lloyd Athletic Club have been following protocol for making the gym and equipment safe for us to use. The club is requiring everyone inside the building to wear masks and to sanitize their hands before beginning to work out, stairways are one direction, and all equipment is sanitized before and after working out during training. Since racquetball is not being played right now, the courts are being used by the trainers and clients so there's lots of space to be physically distanced from each other. There are hand sanitizing stations in various places in the building as well. I feel safe using the gym in this manner, and Carlee makes me work much harder than I would if I was doing this on my own. She's cheerful so it's hard to get mad at her for making me bust my butt :-)

I had brain surgery 6 months prior to walking into LAC. I asked if any of their trainers could work with a former gym rat who now has no idea how an exercise program is going to go while recovering from a major surgery.
I was lucky to get paired up with Geoff. Our first session we just talked and I told him my whole history and all of my concerns. He said he would pace things accordingly. I will admit, I was still skeptical.
Geoff was fantastic. He has so much knowledge around fitness and was able to see me as an individual and tailor the program to what my body could handle, while still lightly pushing some limits.
I switched jobs and so a gym in NE didnβt make sense as my whole life was now based in SW, so I had to move on. I would recommend Geoff to anyone who is looking for a good personal trainer.
