Lovely gym full of very nice people who are all encouraging your fitness goals. My new favorite class that they’ve added this quarter is TECHNIQUE, which was a very small class devoted entirely to a single lift. It really helped my form and I’ve enjoyed putting the lessons Ash taught to use in the other classes.
You also get a discount at the coffee shop across the way, so from a certain perspective, you’re saving money when lifting those kettlebells!
Great facility, lovely owners, caring and helpful staff. Focus is on compound movements over machines, plus Pilates, yoga, nutrition, and private training.

I cannot recommend Sarah at Lone Fir enough. She is an outstanding trainer who takes a truly holistic approach to fitness, focusing not only on workouts in the gym but also on overall health through nutrition, sleep, and movement outside the gym. My knee is prone to injury if I push too hard too fast, and she was always mindful of that, adapting movements so I could build strength slowly and safely. Beyond her expertise, Sarah is simply a wonderful person to work with. Her ability to challenge, along with her encouragement and positivity, made every session both effective and rewarding, and I saw steady improvement as a result.

Lone Fir itself is a wonderful gym. I wouldn't normally describe myself as a gym person, but I felt welcomed and comfortable the moment I walked in. The space is beautiful, inclusive, and has such positive energy. Every class I tried was fun and unique, and every trainer I met was both knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. If you’re looking for a supportive environment with excellent training, Lone Fir is an amazing space.

I’ve always thought of myself as β€œnot a class person,” so I was surprised to discover how much I enjoyed the evening Gainz class. It was fun, the group energy was motivating, and the self-paced structure kept me both challenged and engaged. David is great at giving direction and keeping the energy high. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the peopleβ€”everyone is genuinely friendly and welcoming. Lone Fir has created a community that has made my experience memorable!

So glad to have found the best gym in Portland! They are conveniently located, their coaches are competent and kind, and their classes are stellar.

They offer a mix of coach-led classes at a large variety of times, and also have open gym. They have a ton of equipment including dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, medballs and bands. The classes are challenging, but not overwhelming and coaches are great at checking in offering feedback/modifications or challenges.

The gym is quite clean and organized, even has plants and multiple hand washing stations. Highly recommend if you’re looking for your new home gym that has it all.

I joined Lone Fir Fitness right before my 50th birthday, partly because my husband was deployed to Iraq for over a year. I knew I needed a way to distract myself from being alone, but I also realized it was time to take care of myself. For once in my life I had β€œme” time.

Over seven years ago, I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and underwent two rounds of chemo/radiation, followed by 2 years of immunotherapy for a large tumor in my left hip and pelvis, and in my left psoas muscle. I wasn’t just looking to lose weight from all the treatments; I was trying to regain my balance again, rebuild my confidence, and reconnect with a body that felt like it had betrayed me.

I started my journey with Zack, who helped me get grounded in the beginning. When he moved on, I was paired with Sarah, and that’s when everything changed. Sarah is an absolute powerhouse! She’s strong, fierce, and tough in all the right ways. She pushes me to my limits because she knows I’m capable of more, and she sees the fighter in me even when I forget it’s there.She holds me accountable through weekly check-ins, setting goals, and tracking my daily steps.

With Sarah’s help, I’ve built real strength, gained balance, confidence with my new body and dropped two dress sizes. She has also helped me create good habits to become healthier. More importantly, she has helped me see myself as powerful woman again. I feel proud of what my body can do now, something I never thought I’d feel again. Also, as a bonus I always leave the gym with a huge smile.

Lone Fir Fitness isn’t just a gym; it’s a community that truly cares. People stop to ask how you’re doing, and they genuinely mean it. The classes are fantastic, the massage and recovery services are amazing, and the entire space is designed to support growth, not just physically, but emotionally too.

Lone Fir is awesome. I did my first group
Class today, and David was an attentive instructor. He went around each one of us to which on form. The programming was excellent. I wish they’d do an educator discount. I follow a local influencer and thanks to her I knew about the gym and tried it out. Give it a go. You will get your ass kicked in the best way.

Easily the best gym in Portland! I searched for the perfect gym when I moved to the city and I settled on Lone Fir Fitness after visiting almost every gym in the area. They offer a really great mix of amazing classes and are always introducing new workouts. On the down day, they also give access to open gym sessions to members! The trainers are inspiring and full of knowledge!

Lone Fir has been an excellent and supportive space to work out. I've learned so much about strength training through the group settings.

More remarkable is the incredibly community they have created. Go to the gym once and you'll find a warm welcome and a few event invites. Keep going and you'll be recognized and missed if you skip a day. They have a unique ability to foster belonging.

I was introduced to the studio through class pass and I try to visit once a week in between my cardio and Pilates classes to build muscle. I love that they have a class called jacked that is just weightlifting. Most other studios have only a mix of weight and cardio and I feel like it's easy to get cardio on your own. My apartment does not have a gym and I prefer a class modality to free weights at a general gym.

I really enjoy the classes with Alejandra. She is very patient. I have ADHD and one big piece of that is you're not really that aware of your body and so it really helps to have someone guide you so you know what you're doing wrong and what you're doing well. I remember doing weights in college in high school and I would always injure myself because my form was off and nobody told me.

Everybody that works there is so nice and welcoming. I'm thinking about getting a personal trainer in the near future and will definitely come here for that as well. The gym is huge and always impeccably clean. I also like that the classes are diverse. The people that come to clases and teach are very interesting and are not the stereotypical people that you would see at a usual gym like this. It seems like everybody works out for their health and to live, more than it it being the only thing they do.

Highly recommend if you enjoy classes or are looking for a personal trainer. They have a wide variety, including Pilates, cardio classes, and more one-to-one sessions. The parking is always pretty easy as well.

Loving the intro special at Lone Fir Fitness!

Really enjoyed the space, friendly staff and 1:1/class options. It's in such a central location and didn't come off as a "gym" when you walk into the front door. I've been going here for 4 years and have never looked back, never regretted a dollar spent, never had a bad class, never had a bad interaction with the owner - who is on site a ton - never seen the place messy or dirty or unkempt. I started out of shape and was quickly whipped into shape. I never regret going - even on cold, dark winter mornings. I enjoy the classes and the variety brought by the different instructors but also by each instructor from class to class. If you are looking for a place to slam weights around and make loud grunting noises while high-fiving your bro over your sweet new PR while mocking other lesser mortals around you, this is not the place for you. if you are a normal person who just wants a great workout in a group setting or a great yoga class, this is the place for you. I am sure the personal training is really good but I have never had a session. The personal trainers also teach classes though, and I can say that based on that I am certain the personal training is also fantastic.

I love the vibe of the gym - supportive, energetic, positive. I also love how clean and fresh smelling the gym is - not perfumed, but just clean. It definitely is NOT like other gyms I've been in that smell like the inside of a gym bag. The equipment is clean and tidy and I don't have to fight for others to get what I need for my workout. The BEST part though is the staff who are universally approachable and knowledgable and really really fun.

I joined Lone Fir in March 2023, mainly because I'd been doing strength training on and off for a few years and wanted to find a gym with the support to take me to the next level. Lone Fir delivered beyond my wildest dreams! They have everything you need to get in amazing shape, from beautifully maintained equipment and space to brilliant and kind staff rooting you on.

I have a trainer/open gym membership which I highly recommend if you're looking for guidance and motivation (the classes are also fantastic and small enough to get personal attention). My trainer is Ash and she is BEYOND AMAZING and all of the trainers are awesome, each with their own motivational style. Their trial is a great way to try the gym and see which trainer you'd work best with.

Seriously, I never thought I could feel so strong and I feel such a debt of gratitude to this wonderful gym. If you have ever been even a little bit curious about strength training or lifting heavy but are turned off or intimidated by the macho aura of lifting culture, this is your perfect gym. It's like all the best parts of Portland distilled in one place and I love it so much.

I have commented favorably on this gym a few times, but, as it recently changed ownership, here is an update. This neighborhood gym, in business in the same location for >20 years, was recently sold by the founder/owner. It's still small, meticulously clean and maintains its "community" vibe. The staff are thoroughly professional and know gym members by name. Many clients have been using the facilities for years. The new owners (clients of the gym, who are also neighborhood residents) are adding to the current menu of weight, HIIT, functional training and open gym. As before, class sizes are small and the exercise stations are well-managed. This remains a "traditional" gym in that equipment is limited to free weights, ropes, kettle bells, balls, Aerodyne bicycles, Concept 2 rowing machines, TRX and so on. In summary, Lone Fir Fitness (formerly Studio-X) is not a chain or franchise operation. The new owners are very engaged and this is their primary business. They are on-site daily. Prices are reasonable and the clientele is loyal. There are no hidden membership clauses. No pressure. There are no membership fees: you get what you pay for plus a lot more. It's a perfect alternative to the impersonal, corporatize, sterile gyms that dominate the market.

Love the vibe. Friendly and engaged.
Beautiful space with a couple of skylights, 15 foot tall plants, and nice overall design with good quality equipment, hand wash stations and everyone is in the habit of sanitizing equipment after use so the place feels pretty clean.

So far I've really enjoyed Corbin, Ashley, Jay, Veronica, Lacy. Looking forward to trying the other teachers.

For those who are ready to be onsite as well as for those who want to comfort of working out from anywhere there are lots of options.

The gym (even before the pandemic) has always been kept super clean and well stocked with equipment and supplies. These are the reasons I give Studio X Fitness a 5 star rating:
The variety of classes and types of workouts.
The trainers are skilled and friendly. They are attentive and will give feedback on form and technique. They adapted well from in-person to at-home workouts. They are welcoming to new and returning clients. Trainers adapt workouts to the type of equipment folks have at home.
Studio X gives clients the option to work out in a live class or on your own time with on-demand virtual classes.
The workouts are tough, yet adaptable to fit individual needs and abilities.
Everyone is helpful and goes above and beyond to support clientele.
I’m grateful to Studio X for hanging in there during the pandemic and continuing to be the best gym in the Portland area.

I have been training with Veronica since July 2018 and am in the best shape of my life. I have seen my strength, endurance and overall confidence improve over the last 8 + months. Veronica truly cares and pours her heart and soul into helping me reach my goals. She changes up my workouts to keep things interesting, researches ways for me to improve strength movements and is always supportive. Her special blend of humor along with hard training sessions has changed my life for the better. I laugh as much as I sweat, which is a ton. :) I look forward to working out now and it has become a consistent part of my self-care routine and something I now crave when I take a day or two off. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a personal trainer. She is fantastic!

The classes and instructors are great. There is a nice variety of options, from heavy lifting, to HIIT, to yoga. The times are convenient too, there are classes offered later in the evening (7, 8), which is great for folks that work until 6. I came to the studio after years of CrossFit training and injuries. I feel like I can get a solid workout here and push myself, with less risk of injury. Of all the classes, Grit is my favorite. I wish they offered it 3-4 times a week instead of 2!

I've had nothing but amazing experiences here at StudioX. The classes are smaller than other studios I've been to, ranging from 5-15. With that size, you get to really know the community and the instructors can really make sure everyone gets the attention they need. The different mix of classes offered is also an amazing plus, as with each membership you can sign up for any variety of classes you'd like. The gym is small, but clean, which isn't an issue since the class sizes tend to be smaller as mentioned before. Yoga, cardio, boxing, they got it all.

Every single member of the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The class structure is great and the equipment and workout area is clean and well taken care of. I have zero concern when i workout here about MRSA or malfunctioning equipment like i do at other gyms. The only issue I really have is the availability of parking in the area but of course there is not studio X's problem and nothing they really could do about it anyway. Besides, having to walk a block or two after a workout is good for you!

I have been going to studioX for about a month now and everything about this gym is awesome. I appreciate the variety of classes and class times. The music is great. The space and vibe are incomparable. The instructors are motivating and helpful. And they offer massage and acupuncture on site. I would highly recommend this studio to anyone and everyone looking to achieve their fitness goal.

I've always found gyms and fitness classes rather unappealing as I prefer to workout alone. StudioX changed everything for me! The teachers are outstanding, the classes are challenging and fun, and the studio has a really positive vibe. I couldn't be more pleased to be part of this gym!

My experience with this place has been fantastic. The online registration system keeps me accountable to my workout, while also making reservations a breeze. The trainers were ready to work with me as a newbie, providing clear instruction and awesome motivation. The facility is awesome and easily accommodates yoga, suspension classes, personal training, and a plethora of high-energy workouts. Two thumbs up.

I am a little hesitant to leave a review for StudioX... Not because this place deserves anything less than 5 stars, but because I'm selfish and not sure I want to share what I've found! I've tried my share of gyms and studios around town, but nothing compares to what StudioX has to offer. A diverse portfolio of classes, knowledgeable & friendly instructors, and an inviting atmosphere to get your sweat on. Lastly, I really appreciate how much effort they put into keeping the gym and equipment clean and sanitized! Bravo and keep it up!

I’ve been going to this gym for 1.5 months (twice a week) and have nothing but good things to say. Very welcoming gym. All the employees are very sweet and highly trained (shout out to Molly, Hallie, Blair & Charissa who I’ve personally worked with and are great!) They truly want to help everyone of different shapes and sizes get healthy and in shape. I go to the group classes (jacked+burn & abs+burn) and yoga. Every class is a little different so classes stay interesting and you don’t end up doing the same boring workout routine over and over again. With the smaller classes the instructors are able to walk around and help you adjust your form to make sure you are doing to movements safely and correctly to get the most out of the workout. I really appreciate how they walk around giving personal feedback to people instead of calling people out in front of the whole class. Im relatively new to working out and still am gym shy, but I feel comfortable at this gym. Also, the gym is spotless and kept up very well. Going twice a week (1 group class & 1 yoga class) I started seeing improvements to my body very quickly. After the first couple weeks I already feel stronger and look leaner. I 100% recommend this gym to everyone and anyone!

StudioX is the best place to work out in Portland. Great trainers, tons of classes, a large selection of equipment, and all the attention you need and dread. It is working out like you've always wanted, without the gym bros or bunnies preening in front of the mirror.

After trying many different gyms in Portland and having personal trainers on a off for years, I can unequivocally say this is the PERFECT gym:

* Spotless facility
* Great variety of small group classes
* Personal attention
* Challenging workouts
* Friendly atmosphere
* Very welcoming of new people
* Great into rate to give it a try (and get hooked)

Every detail has been so well thought-out at this gym. How nice to finally find a gym where the experience is consistently excellent and it's a pleasure to work out there!
