This used to be my go-to gym when I lived in Richmond and feels as "old Portland" as you can get. No frills, just an amazing workout space with lots of cool history!

Love this gym! If youβre looking for an old school, antique, run down neighborhood gym, this is the vibe. My only beef however, which affects my review, is that womenβs monthly memberships are the same as menβs, but women donβt have access to a sauna/steam room because the sauna is broken in the womenβs locker room. Therefor, the womenβs membership should be less expensive than the menβs membership, if men get more amenities than women. If the sauna ever gets fixed in this gym, Iβd absolutely up my rating for this place.

I thought it might be old school but didn't realize how old school. The dumbbells appeared to be circa 1965. There's rust on machines and dirt and dust on everything. It's like working out in someone's garage.

Definitely an old school gym for experienced lifting. Some of the machines are not super intuitive but solid as a rock and has everything you need. Has a good neighborhood feel, great selection of free weights, a pool, and is the cheapest gym in town with a cool history.

I was so excited to try out this no-frills gym that everyone seems to love. I was pretty put off by how cramped the space was, but whatever, I could get used to that. The real treasure was the women's locker room. Guys. This locker room looks like it's been abandoned for a few decades. Neither the lights nor water worked. The sauna is completely out of commission as well. I almost couldn't stifle my laughter; it was so unbelievably decrepit and abandoned. I felt like I was in Silent Hill.
The owner seemed lovely and I'm sure if you're a dude you'll fit right in here. But unfortunately old-school also means that women aren't really welcomed here. At least that's how I felt.

Easily the best gym for those that have a passion for lifting. And confidently takes my #1 spot for best gym Iβve had the pleasure of working out at.
Being the only gym in Portland for half its life, the owner has worked out there for 60 years. Most of the equipment is custom made by Portland iron workers and welding shops that closed down years ago. It has one of the first nautilus machines ever made, and a wealth of knowledge in classic bodybuilding magazines and books.
Loprinziβs is not only a small slice of old Portland, a place of local business and passionate people; itβs an honest last bastion of the golden era of bodybuilding, a place you can hardly find amidst corporatized and indifferent box gyms set up to make a buck. The owner is there every day and works out with us in between greeting guests and sharing stories about the history of the place.
Thank you, Bob, for continuing to provide and maintain such a special atmosphere and culture thatβs lost to us in most places. Loprinziβs is a modern day monument to a lifestyle I didnβt think Iβd be lucky enough to experience.

Loprinziβs gym is awesome. Switched from the big commercial 24-hour fitness to here last summer and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Bob and Dave are very accommodating and always willing to give you a spot or advice on any exercise. The atmosphere is great, it has plenty of old school equipment while also having some new-school powerlifting gear like a kabuki bar, Ohio power bars, Texas bars, forza benches, and a big rogue competition bench. My favorite machine is by far the lat-pullover machine, the contraction from that is amazing. They also have some deadlift / Olympic weightlifting platforms and squat racks. On top of that, they have a rack of weightlifting belts, straps, wrist wraps, and resistance bands if you ever want to try them to aid with your lifts.
Besides the awesome old-school bodybuilding vibes and friendly and welcoming community, itβs super easy to sign up. You can get a day pass, one month, 3 month, 6 month, full year, or a punch card. The prices are very affordable and cheaper than any commercial gyms and there are also discounts for students, senior citizens, and groups. You also get to bring a friend for free once a month.

I travel a lot and this is the best gym experience Iβve ever had. The gym itself is old school and historical, prices are reasonable, but the owners were so so accommodating and friendly. I wanted a shirt they didnβt have, and they said they could mail it to me. When they mailed it, they sent extra Loprinzi stickers and a beanie!

When I joined, the owner thanked me and said I should ask him any time I need a spot. Not only is this a piece of Portland history, but it's a supportive, no fuss environment. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

A bodybuilding Mecca! Passing through Portland and got a $15 day pass. This gym was so sweet. Had all the old equipment you could ever find in an old Arnold or Ronnie Coleman video. Got a killer workout in, and got to try some retro machines. Everyone was nice - very community vibe. Awesome experience all around.
Of note, this is not an LA fitness, so if you're looking for a more tidy atmosphere, this is not it. Also, if you're looking to olympic lift, they only have a few pretty dilapidated bumper plates. That said, if you're looking to lift heavy, or get a good pump in, this is your spot.

Went to tour the premises. Found it very dirty and the walls were falling apart and couldn't view the sauna because some crazy woman locked the door and refused to open it. Why isn't this place condemned? Maybe raising the fees could be used to repair and clean the place. I wish this place deserved the stars.

Such a cool, special spot. Iβm newer to bodybuilding but this was so cool to skip the mega gym and fancy equipment and go kick it old-school for my morning workout. Really good vibes, old school charm and great inspiration around on the walls to keep chasing the pump.

Loprinzi's was the first gym I went to after highschool. While visiting home, one of the first things I asked was if they made it through the pandemic and we're open.
Over 10 years since my first day at Loprinzi's I returned to find the same amazing atmosphere, bread and butter weight training equipment, and photos of classic body builders peppered across the walls. One of my favorite places in all of Portland.

Loprinzi's is a real gem of a find for me. I'm not a regular gym goer and it shows with my flabby arms; I a decent amount of exercise, but 90%+ of that is outdoors exercise which does not work the upper body (cycing, running, hiking). So for balance, I go to Loprinzi's once in a while. Their prices are great and very flexible. (When I'm out of state most of the year going with the 10-pass is perfect.).
Pro's: it's got almost everything I need. (sauna would be nice for the winters).
Con's: not many; if you're looking for high end and modern design this likely may not be the right fit. This is minimal frills and 80's style. There used to be a gym cat, but the cat is sadly no more.
Other: there are classes like yoga, but I haven't tried any. I would like to learn rex-kwon do or nunchaku.

Loprinzis is great. I have a year membership here, they have everything you could ever want or need to get fit. The space is a little tight, they have definitely put in every kind of machine possible. The people are usually pretty cool and keep to themselves and the guy that runs it is always super sweet and greets you with a smile. It is definitely an old school biddy builder gym through and through and the atmosphere is filled with lots of encouragement.

Staff is very cool and friendly - folks here accepting and no BS - equipment is Old Skool - BUT the free weights are the best in PDX! Vast assortment of quality/classic dumbbells (no pun intended). Many of the machines are pre-glitz, i.e. no gears to allow you to move more weight and give you the appearance you are strong - the chrome machines are straight line cable and the real deal, so what 150#s in another gym might be 100 here cause there's no cheatin mother gravity here.

I love this gym!! The owner Bob is an amazing, kind and knowledgeable person. The equipment is old, original, good working condition, and gets the job done. This is a historic (really!), true, neighborhood gym, not a chain. It is a bit funky, clean, crowed with equipment, wonderful, and has heart. It is a body builders gym, a step back in time, and yet accommodates an old, disabled woman like me, and makes me feel welcome and comfortable. there. People go there to work, not to goggle other people, yet they are courteous and helpful to others..
Four years ago I walked in the gym and Bob the owner was at the small desk. I told him I wanted to learn to lift weights and knew nothing about it. He just smiled and said, OK!! I can show you, lets get started now. He taught me well, he knows his stuff, never charged me for his personal training time.. He loves his gym, and is excited to help others to learn to safely use it. I love this place!!

Best gym I've found in SE Portland area for equipment, amenities, size and atmosphere. Bob signed me up. He was laid back and friendly. Month to month payments, no contract no initiation fee! They don't try to sell you on anything, they just let you come in and do your thing. Only reason I almost didn't give it five stars was that a lot of the equipment is old and could be cleaner. Plus it is maybe a little too crowded with the equipment downstairs. But, every place will have it's flaws. So excited to have found this gym!

I visited this gym at the recommendation of a friend. People were friendly, and it had an extremely old school aesthetic. The equipment was old but decent, and they have great bench racks. This gym is very lifting oriented. There isn't much room for working on other fitness. Their cardio equipment is ok, but there isn't a ton of it. If what you want is a place to lift though, you can't go wrong by coming here.
