I’m hypermobile (Ehlers Danlos) so my tendons and ligaments are pretty loose. Pilates has been such a huge help in keeping things stable and strong, especially because It’s so much easier for me to rely on my flexibility rather than my strength. I took Cara’s class at Modo Yoga today and she is such a great teacher. She is clear, encouraging, and always gives different options so you can do what works best for your body that day. Her class helped me feel more supported and in control of my movement. I love her and you will, too!

Modo Yoga is the first place I experienced hot yoga. It is also the place I fell in love with it. Not only is the atmosphere inviting for beginners, it makes you feel secure and safe to come back. I have been enjoying learning new styles and continuing to attend classes. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in experiencing hot yoga for the first time or if you are an established veteran.

Enjoy everything about this place. Great classes and teachers, inclusive, clean studio, towels provided, friendly, etc. Only wish they had one in Vancouver so I didn’t have to fight traffic and could go more often.

Great space for hot/heated yoga (yin, Pilates, community classes)! There are two main spaces and the locker rooms are consistently clean. Great amenities and used props are put on a table after class to be sanitized and cleaned. Superb instructors. Never had issues with street parking.

Continued to be amazed at how deep the bench is at Modo Pdx. All of their teachers are AAA. Its refreshing, no matter how many classes I may take of a particular teacher, that I never feel like they are going through a pitch so to speak. It's apparent that all of the teachers not only put thought into each class, but that they truly enjoy leading their students.

Modo is a wonderful haven, and Emily is an amazing teacher. Clear and smooth instruction, and a warm and welcoming tone throughout. And, the room was the perfect “hot yoga” temp for me: quite warm, helped this old runner get loose safely, but not so hot that I emerged a raisin . I shall return!

Not the most ClassPass-friendly experience. My first visit — arrived at 1:56PM for a 2:00PM class, struggled to find parking for the first time , and walked in just 3 minutes late. Drove all the way to be there !Still, they wouldn’t let me in and offered no flexibility or help canceling to avoid the no-show fee. Asking me to wait till 4PM class …Most studios allow a short grace period, but here even a 3-minute delay = full charge. Disappointing for first-timers.

this place is incredible! Working out has always felt like such a chore, but with the instructors at modo I’ve found joy in it again. It has been good not only for my body (helping me recover from a minor meniscus tear) but also for my mind and breathing regulation. Could not recommend this place more.

The best yoga studio in the Portland metro. What makes it the best? Their owners have a very high bar for who they let teach on their schedule. I’ve now taken 100 (actually 101) classes here with 21 different instructors. I have my favorite instructors for sure, but all of the permanent instructors are extremely talented, bringing consistently unique flows with excellent cuing.
The classes do get very full, which personally I love. The energy with a packed class is off the charts and I feel like I practice my best in those classes.
And this isn’t why I chose to practice here, but their juice bar + seasonal decorations, including fresh grown flowers (by the owner!!) in the summer all over the studio just really top off the vibe.

PLEASE vacuum your studio floors!!! Between classes. I had a ball of hair on me at one point in my class last week that had black, red and blonde hair in the ball. The person in front of me said they were also picking hair off. It’s too sticky and moist in these classes for a lack of cleanliness on behalf of the business, and especially for how expensive this studio has become.
I love most of the teachers at this studio and their gentle but active and attentive approach, but the cleanliness of the floors thing is too much

Have 160+ classes under my belt at ModoYoga Portland. I’ve done yoga at other studios in the Seattle area as well and Modo is my favorite studio.
Highly recommend this studio for everyone. They have everything from beginning to advanced yoga.
Highlights:
Reasonable price for monthly membership.
Great classes and workshops.
Instructors are personable and helpful.
Facilities are clean, safe and respectful.
They have towels, mats for rent
Bike storage (limited)
Great times (4, 5, 5:30 and 6:30 are my favs)
In the summer they have yoga in the park once a week.
Tips:
If you want different yoga classes go for the power flow series (it’s not limited to the modo routine)
If you want a challenge go for either power flow 2 or the 75 minute modo flow class.
If you want less intense/ intro try the yin & yang or the modo (different from the modo flow) class.

I've taken 15 classes with 7 instructors here so far.
Pros: truly beautiful space, wonderful amenities (showers!), and so many class times! It's so convenient to take an early class before work and that is rare in Portland! It is definitely hot yoga if that's what you're looking for! The app is really easy to use too!!!
Cons: coming from a different style of yoga modo feels very sterile. There are no dharma talks, no chanting, no ohms. It doesn't seem like the teachers have much room for creativity or flexibility in their flows (and maybe for someone else getting the same consistency is exactly what you want-it's just not what I'm used to). Some teachers seem to have rapport with students coming and going but it doesn't blend into the class.
Modo feels like all surface no substance to me.

This is now my new home studio! I hate to say it, but it is hard finding a studio where you feel comfortable being a poc. Modo has been holding it down and it is just such a different feeling from other studios in Portland. Its been a long time since I felt committed to my practice. But having a teacher like Marceau, has recommitted me to my practice. He gives all the queue's, to make the adjustment necessary to make the pose FEEL GOOD. I have been feeling stronger everyday and let something go after each class. Having a great experience in this space! Try it, also Marceuas playlist, is Chefs Kiss!

In attempts to having my partner try yoga, we did the discounted month. Our experience was going well until the end when a student yelled at us for quietly chatting. Another couple next to us, who were straight and white, were also quietly chatting. She chose to yell at us, I believe because we were gay and my partner is a person of color. It was a very "Karen" moment, and told us to leave the studio if we were going to chat. Even though the studio tries to support the queer and biopic community, those that attend feel differently. We definitely won't be back! Please try harder at creating a safe and inclusive environment!

Holy crammed room Batman! I should have heeded the other reviews that mention this. I do not enjoy smacking my neighbors elbows or worrying about kicking them while trying to do yoga. This place is super nice and fancy inside. The staff was sweet and welcoming. I also got the vibe that this studio is meant for seasoned yogis and not novice ones. The teacher doesn't do the class with you and just yells out what to do. This would be a more enjoyable experience if it wasn't so crammed. I probably won't be back just from the vibe in the class and the cramped quarters.

Today was such a special day for us. The teachers at Modo Yoga, Chelsey and Caitlin were so supportive, fun and open. My son spent time with Caitlin and practiced in her kids yoga class and I was able to enjoy a full on joyful and sweaty practice with Chelsey. Liam was hesitant if not resistant to trying a new class today. He was welcomed with such kind and respectful presence by Caitlin and told me that he definitely wants to come back again! Yay!!! He said afterwards that he felt really proud of himself :) my heart is overflowing with gratitude. Chelsey’s class was also spot on exactly what I needed and incorporated a wide spectrum of Hatha asanas both standing balance poses and seated postures. Her energy and presence was felt and deeply appreciated. She is a wonderful and knowledgeable teacher. It was such a good compliment to have kids yoga happening at the same time. I really feel like our family is supported in our health and mindfulness practices. We will keep coming back! Thank you.

Would have rated 5 stars because the yoga aspect was actually really nice, but the instructor is a whole other thing. I didn’t think much of it during the class when he just kept standing over me 80% of the time, but it was when my gf and I were signing up at the front desk and he shamelessly was hitting on me. Kept us up there for 20 minutes being really creepy. Keep in mind we are both small individuals and this is a tall man. Weird power dynamic, keep your thirstiness out of the studio.

I really enjoy this studio and am going to be a regular here. The free week and $50 for a month (for new timers) after, is a pretty good deal. It does go up to $110 after that. The place is new, smells new, and is very clean. People are hygenic here and there is an effort between people and social distancing. You can cancel up to an hour before if needed. At present, there is grafitti on the outside of the door saying OSHA but I can assure you, as someone who takes the pandemic seriously, there is nothing here that warrants a need for their presence. Can I give zero stars? A friend brought me to the studio for a drop in class, that I would have gladly paid for, but the studio offered me an entire week free. So I figured, why not? I thought better of it literally the next day, because the studio is across town for me and is a difficult commute, so I emailed them to end any potential membership that may start after the free trial. No response. I called, left voicemails and STILL no response after a week. I am left with no choice but to go to the studio and confront whom ever is the unfortunate person working during that time to make sure I’m not charged for a membership I didn’t want in the first place. TERRIBLE customer service, hopefully those that are members are ok with being members for life, because it’s almost impossible to end.

I've been on the lookout for a studio to start attending. I've never stepped foot in this studio and I never plan to after seeing whoever was opening the studio at 1:30 p.m. today take a houseless person's belongings, including a suitcase, and literally kick them out onto street on the corner of Grand and Oak.

Did Portland really need another yoga studio?
Yeah, it did.
Modo PDX. Our city is finally complete.
I’ve done yoga for over 20 years with countless teachers in several cities around the world. I was searching. Then, when I found Modo Yoga I felt like I’d found it.
But that’s esoteric talk, and specific to my experience. Let’s start with the fact that Modo Yoga offers a profound and powerful community. It begins here in Portland at Jen Reed’ studio and follows you around as you travel for work or pleasure to other Modo cities. I really feel like I’m part of something bigger than myself, and something really good.
Modo PDX has the most beautiful yoga studio in Portland (and I’ve showered in most of them!) It is clean, welcoming, and, most importantly, inspiring. Whereas other hot yoga is actually hot (and dour and smelly), Modo PDX is warm and cozy; it opens you.
Modo teachers seem to be more fully educated in the knowledge and practice of yoga than other teachers who studied the “how” of postures for a weekend or a couple of weeks. Modo teachers are trained for a year before they step in front of a class. They study anatomy. They understand the power of breath and consciousness. They teach the “how” of the postures but also the why, the intent, the meaning, the benefit, and the joy.
In my humble opinion, Jen Reed is the best yoga teacher in all of Portland. What you will learn from her does not equate to “I do yoga” but elevates to a higher plane of, “I am the best, fittest, most aware human I can be.”
All that for $40 unlimited for your first month. How can you go wrong?
