My wife and I dropped in at MTCF today with my cousin and her daughter, who are both new to CrossFit. We had so much fun at this gym! Our coach, J, was exceptionally friendly, talented, and helpful. His power snatch warm up and cues were so good that my cousin, who has never done ANY Olympic lifting, immediately got the hang of it! If we lived in Portland, we would absolutely be members. My cousin and her daughter are already talking about going back.

Mt Tabor CrossFit is the most supportive and welcoming gym I've ever been to. I started as a very novice lifter and found I was very quickly made comfortable and safe working out here. After trialing memberships at other gyms, it was clear MTCF does it differently. The coaches do a great job of creating a culture of respect and support, and because the classes are smaller you really get to know the other members which leads to a strong sense of community. Whether your goal is setting a new PR, or just showing up to class consistently, the team and fellow members will cheer on your successes at every step.

I love this gym. I've had memberships to many gyms of various types and MTCF is by far my favorite. The supportive environment and great people make going to the gym a treat. The coaches help adapt workouts to where you're at in that moment, never bad vibes from anyone for modifying. The community events for friends/family to join you and educational classes add such a fun element. I love that this is an inclusive gym that doesn't have 'gym bro' nonsense, just a good workout and new friends.

I’ve been going to MTCF for about 2 years and love it! I was really anxious to join a crossfit gym because I wasn’t active at all and had basically no strength. Over the past two years I’ve been able to build muscle, my fitness has increased, I have functional strength that I had never had, and I’ve made tons of friends. Everyone is so friendly and supportive no matter where you are in your fitness journey! I highly recommend giving it a try.

MTCF is absolutely amazing. Alex has built an incredibly supportive and inclusive community of coaches and athletes and everyone is so excited to be a part of it. I have been a CrossFit athlete for the past 10+ years and since I've joined over a year ago I've seen new gains I didn't think I would ever hit! If you're looking for an amazing place to work out and a great community to be a part of, MTCF is the spot!

I’ve been going for about 7 months. A nice little walk in my neighborhood. I enjoy the coaches & people at this gym. The programming is great, well thought out, and I haven’t gotten injured to poor planning (which was a common occurrence at my last gym). I try to attend 5-6 times a week, and have seen significant change in my mental health & weight.

I have been a member at Mt. Tabor for over three years now! I walked in just before my 50th birthday and said “I might not be able to achieve all the moves…but give me every mid-life Mama modifications!” And so they did! 😃 I joined that day! This gym is one of the best investments I have made for myself! The coaches and members are amazing, inclusive, non-intimidating and incredibly welcoming!

I have been a member here for 4 years. The secret to my consistency has been the inclusive environment. The coaches are open to and able to instruct on modifications for all skill levels. As a female in my late 40s with some mobility issues, I need the high intensity to be more low intensity. I have learned how to modify the workout so I don’t injure myself and yet still reap the benefits. The community is outstanding. I love meeting new people and seeing my friends every morning. Highly recommend!

I have several friends who had been encouraging me to join the Mt Tabor CrossFit gym for over two years, but I had plenty of excuses for why I wouldn’t go…largely due to my perceptions of CrossFit gyms being filled with gym bros doing military workouts. As a woman in my late 40’s who hadn’t lifted weights since college, the last thing I wanted was to be in a toxic gym culture.
My perception of the gym could not have been further from what I’ve found at MTCF!! I’ve now been there for over a year and since day 1 have always felt welcomed, celebrated for what I can do & like I’m on equal footing with everyone else, regardless of the modifications I might need! Not only is there no judgement, it’s just a fun community filled with a wide range of people from our corner of Portland. I’ve met so many awesome neighbors there! The coaches are also super patient, kind, & knowledgeable and pay attention to ensure correct form to reduce potential injuries.
After spending so many years saying no, I am so glad I finally said yes. My body and mind are both stronger, and so is my community! I can’t recommend Mt Tabor CrossFit highly enough!

I’ve been at this gym now for a little more than two years. This is the first crossfit gym I’ve ever been at and I sure was intimidated before I started. Before that, I hadn’t darkened the door of a gym for, wow, maybe 20 years.

When I started, all of the coaches and members were so warm and welcoming and supportive. My fitness level was quite low when I started but no matter what the class was doing, there was always a simpler, easier option for me.

Now I can move furniture around the house and lift bags of groceries, no sweat! If you’re looking for a fun and welcoming gym, stop here: you’ve found it!

2 stars because it seems like they have quality equipment. Unfortunately, when I bought a drop in and tried to attend, I ended up just standing awkwardly outside for 10 minutes, waiting to speak to anyone. By the time I left, the class had already been "going" for 10 minutes. The most important thing to me for CrossFit is the inviting and welcoming community, and I did not feel that at this location.

Alex and MTCF are all about inclusivity, community, and making new members feel as welcome and part of the team as everyone else. Alex is also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to fitness and nutrition. It is obvious that she really cares - she puts so much thought into the little details as well as the big picture for the members. I joined right before the pandemic lockdown so I haven't spent much time inside the gym, but I can vouch for it being clean, organized, and having a variety of great equipment. While the gym was closed during the pandemic, we were provided daily at-home workouts, videos, zoom workouts, tips, and fun weekly challenges. They even offered to let members borrow equipment during this time. Alex and her coaches are always available to answer questions and help however they can. They're awesome!

Alex and the rest of the coaches are great. This has been my first crossfit experience, and I've been here for about 3 yrs. I was nervous when I first started because I didn't want a gym where I pressured to do something I didn't feel comfortable or safe doing. The coaches are patient and watch your form and instruct you at every step of the way to insure you are doing the movements correctly and safely. They (as well as the other members) motivate you no matter if you're lifting the heaviest weight in the room or the lightest. They are excellent at modifying movements if you're recovering from an injury or have other limitations. Everyone there wants you to succeed and improve your own limitations, and not something that's unrealistic. Highly recommend!

The owner, Alex, is welcoming and creates an inclusive environment for anyone to sweat and have fun. The class was accessible to individuals of all levels of fitness. Modifications to the standard rounds of excercises were given so you can do what you can safely. Alex starts the class with a warmup to increase your heart rate gradually, then you work hard for about 30 minutes, followed by a cooldown. My husband and I have been going to Mt. Tabor Crossfit for a little over 1.5 years and have had an excellent experience at the gym. As an ultrarunner, I was looking for strength training to balance out my miles and prevent recurrence of chronic injuries. We gave MTCF a try since it's right down the block from our house. I was initially hesitant due to stereotypes about Crossfit gyms and the fear that I wouldn't fit in as someone who has very little weightlifting experience.
I shouldn't have worried! Alex (the owner) and the rest of the coaches have built an awesome, inclusive environment focused on allowing you to get the best out of yourself. I especially appreciate their focus on technique/injury prevention and getting the movements correct before increasing weight.
I give MTCF huge credit for keeping me injury free for 1.5 years as my mileage has increased significantly and encourage other runners (or anyone looking to get fit!) to stop by.

I love Mt Tabor CrossFit!

I had a little with CrossFit before joining Mt. Tabor, but almost zero lifting experience. My skills and fitness level have improved dramatically in the seven months I've been a member at Mt. Tabor CrossFit.

Alex is a fantastic coach. She makes the material accessible regardless of your familiarity with the skills she's covering in class. Everything can be scaled to your fitness level, and with such a friendly, encouraging atmosphere you almost can't help but succeed. Bonus: if you're brand new there are foundations classes to help you be successful from your first workout on.

The atmosphere at the gym is great as well. It's very different from the average Globo Gym. The classes are always a challenge, and everyone encourages one another as we workout.

Mt. Tabor CrossFit is a great place to get into the sport, regardless of whether you are brand new or an old pro.
