I had a deeply disappointing experience today at the Beaverton OrangeTheory location that I feel compelled to share. I arrived at 11:00 AM for my 11:15 AM class and excited to celebrate my birthday with a great workout. However, Helena at the front desk refused to let me in, despite the class not yet starting.

I kindly explained that it was my birthday and asked if she could please make an exception. I even told her, β€œIt’s my birthday today, and you’ll break my heart if you don’t let me in.” Unfortunately, she still turned me away.

This interaction left me feeling incredibly disheartenedβ€”not just because I missed the workout, but because of the complete lack of customer orientation and empathy. There was no flexibility, no effort to find a solution, and no warmth in the interaction. On a day that was personally meaningful to me, I left feeling dismissed and unwelcome.

I hope OrangeTheory takes this feedback seriously and reconsiders how staff are trained to handle human moments like these. A little kindness and understanding can go a long way . Thanks

I'm a busy mama of 5 young kids. I joined OTF because I needed to do something for myself and loose the mom pooch. They have so many classes all the time, it's easy to fit in a workout. The coaches, especially Brian are so kind, helpful, funny and motivational. The workouts are always great and fun! I used to drive past this gym on my way to the grocery store and wonder, who are those crazy people? The workouts looked pretty hardcore... but once I gave it a try, I realized you can totally take on the moves at your pace & level. And it gave me what I was looking for, which was the benefits of a personal trainer without the price.

After 9 months, I'm still going strong here and loving the community feel, encouragement & coaches. Yes the whole orange zone concept helps me push myself, and the diverse workout routines make it more appealing. But what really gets me off the couch on a lazy day is knowing I always leave feeling better. Everyone is super nice & encouraging.

It works! I sampled several different gyms back in spring time and OrangeTheory really stood out, but I waited several more months to commit due to life transitions. I took the leap into starting classes at OrangeTheory back in early November and haven’t looked back. The membership is pricey, but it’s 100% worth it. The group workouts are the perfect balance of fun, challenging, and supportive. The coaches are great and the equipment is in good shape. There is a lot of positivity and no shame, no matter where you’re at on your journey. The classes can be tailored to a wide range of bodies, abilities, and goals, and coaches and peers are always supportive. I travel a lot, and I’ve tried a few different locations in different states and around Beaverton. Out of all the OTF locations I’ve visited, this one is by far my favorite. Shout out to Regina, she’s a fantastic instructor. I’m happy this will be my β€œhome” location moving forward.

Maybe I shouldn't let this secret out. The crew there rocks! I really appreciate the high energy, competent coaches and sweet front desk staff. The community of fellow members who are there, bleary-eyed at 5 or 6 AM with me are dedicated, focused and supportive of everyone. It's a team feel, not judging. And as a data junkie, I get all the feedback I need to push myself at the appropriate level of effort to make the time count. May 2019 update: after nearly 2 years of a committed routine at Cedar Mill OTF, I have lost significant weight and gained considerable tone. I feel like even at mid-life I am more fit than I have been in decades. August 2022, OTF Cedar Mill continues to be a central pivot to my health and wellness. Thanks to the pandemic shut down, I can very well imagine how life would be without the community of the studio.
May 2023 I'm still at it. OTF Cedar Mill is still critical to my health and wellbeing and still delivers constantly above and beyond.

TLDR: perfect for people who have no motivation or discipline to work out on their own, like myself. This studio is great, welcoming, friendly, lots of coaches with different playlist styles, quite diverse inclusive clientele, like new equipment, efficient workout that's totally planned out, great if you want to know your numbers like heart rate, calories burned. Take the first class free, and they'll walk you through everything to expect. Clean studio with bathrooms, one shower?, filtered water, and cubbies for personal effects. Easy parking in the MOC parking lot. Start up costs would include purchasing their specific heart rate monitor ($119), and then purchasing classes either by membership or class packs which they are happy to go over.

Orangetheory makes it so easy to have a very thorough workout in one hour, and the use of the heart rate monitor really keeps me accountable and informed during the workout. The fitbit like band, measures distance, calories, and heart rate and you can see how you and your class are doing on the TV screens.

Things are kept challenging because the workout focus changes day to day, between endurance, strength, power, sometimes a mix of all three, and periodic benchmarks or challenges. The workouts are different each day, but everyone has a turn on the treadmill (alternatively strider and bike for those who need it), rowing machine, and the weight floor.

The folks and coaches here are all great, and their playlists are different, so you can find someone who suits your style- I really like Regina, Madi, Darius and Lexi. I like that there are lots of class times to choose from, 7 days a week, usually starting as early as 5am and as late as 7:15pm, and 2G (24 ppl) vs 3G (36 ppl) classes, if you like a smaller size class. The coaches always ask if there's any injuries, and will help make any modifications to the workouts, so it's great for all fitness levels. The equipment is top of the line, and easy to work with. I think the gym goers here are all decent too- most everyone is pretty thoughtful about wiping stuff down as directed, giving everyone enough room to do their workout, encouraging each other between blocks. Everyone seems to be all shapes, sizes, ages, gender, ethnicity, fitness levels as well, so it feels totally comfortable. There's no judgment or that feeling of being out of place.

The Orangetheory app is so easy to use- to view and sign up for classes (great for pre-scheduling-can sync to your calendar, as well as cancelling), get on the waitlist if needed, also to see your workout summary, workout history, body comp history. There's also At Home workout videos as well, which was really awesome when we weren't working out in studio.

As of January 2023 I have the 8 classes/month membership for $119/month and that is working just fine for me right now. It comes out to two classes/week, at about $14.88/class. A one off class is $18. There's the level above is Unlimited, for $169?, and a level below that is 4 classes/month for around $69. You should definitely try the first class for free, and then buy a session pack if you're not ready to sign up for a membership or want more flexibility in how often you want to go.

This studio is great too because they are very welcoming to newcomers and will definitely walk you through before the first workout of what to expect, check in on you after and they are very responsive by email and text if you have questions later.

Some tips- 1) get to class a little early so you can sign up for the machine or section you want to start with, ie starting on the weight floor, ends on the rower, vs starting on the treadmill, ends on the weight floor. Just depends on how you like to workout. 2) Be careful in the parking lot with cars and people going in and out as one class ends and the next class comes, within a 15 minute window. 3) No one's really masking up here, but do feel free if you want/need to- it's totally acceptable and doable.

After leaving the military 15+ years ago I never worked out. My work/personal coach Mark David motivated me to start running back in 2018 and could barely make 1k. By summer of 2019 I was running between 4-7 miles a day and lost some weight but no muscle definition and the pain from my heels, back, and hips started to really wear on me not to mention the time commitment. I would hit the gym from time to time but wasn't sure what I was doing and lost interest. A colleague recommended I join OTC last summer and was super hesitant and committed to one day a week.. then two... then three...five and eventually overcame my initial fears and anxiety working out with a group. I started seeing both physical and mental clarity results after about a month or so. Two months my friends and co-workers noticed change. 3-4 months in it became a regular habit. By March of 2020 I gave up running outside, no more aches and pains other than muscle soreness. I met my fitness goals and was devastated when OTC was shutdown due to Covid. I am back at it again all the way and a forever fan of OTC. Join the FB group and you will see all the hype. Just don't be the ones that go once or twice and say it isn't for you. You gotta commit to a month and you will be hooked!

The OT trainers keep it upbeat and fun. The music is motivating. It makes my workout competitive and pushes me harder than I can push myself working out alone. I love all of the different exercises and how it is different every workout. My husband and I do this together which makes it even more fun. It is great because you get the benefit of having a personal trainer without having to be in a one on one situation which for me is perfect. The coaches are easy to approach, super motivating and are always helping me improve my form. I was so nervous for my first class but was pleasantly surprised to see people of all ages, body types and fitness levels in class. There were no high pressure sales tactics to get me to sign up after my free first workout which I really appreciated. Orangetheory makes fitness feel so approachable. Going to the gym before; I never knew what I should be doing. I really enjoy going to OTF Cedar Mill. In 60 minutes, they provide a full body workout (strength & cardio) through guided instruction by knowledgeable trainers. Every session is different so you never get bored. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are great. Would recommend this gym to anyone who wants to get or stay fit in a non-judgemental and supportive environment.

I love that it’s different every day and the encouragement from the coaches and other members keeps me coming back for more. I also really like that there are periodic milestones so you can see how far you are progressing in your own personal fitness journey. All fitness levels are welcomed and the trainers are amazing about helping with modifications if you have any limitations due to injury or ability. OTF Cedar Mill has helped me lose 20 pounds in the last year and more importantly at 41 years old I am finally sleeping better and have more energy to get through the day. It’s not easy, but it is fun and you leave with a great sense of accomplishment after every workout. Try it, you’ll love it.
