With 20+ years of Yoga experience across disciplines I appreciate Beth's emphasis on posture and alignment. After having two kids and returning to yoga this has been *perfect* to get me back into my body in an amazingly healthy and supported way.

I love taking classes at Paxson Yoga Center. A friend told me about it years ago when it was Gudmestad Yoga, but it's taken me all this time to start taking classes here. I am on my second term and I know I'll continue for years here. All the teachers are terrific, and I am particularly taken with Hope Fyfield. Hope has a light, humorous and gentle approach, yet her yoga goes very deep. I have seen a lot of change in my practice since I've been taking her classes; she takes me right to the fundamentals and I have gained strength and understanding from her teaching.

I have been a student at Paxson Yoga for over 12 years. (When it was Gudmestad Yoga). Every teacher Iβve had has been excellent. They have a way of explaining the moves so that everyone can easily understand them. They are warm and friendly to both new students and those that have been coming for years. The individual feedback you receive shows they truly care about your success in yoga. When I leave class I feel like I am standing taller and straighter. I highly recommend Paxson Yoga Center!

I have been practicing at Paxson Yoga and Wellness Center since 2018. I have refined my yoga alignment, strength, balance, and confidence. The classes at each level are carefully designed to meet students where they are and to help them improve their strength, balance, and sense of wellbeing. The focus of every class is health, mindfulness, alignment, and safety. A yoga class at Paxson Yoga and Wellness Center always leaves me feeling balanced, taller, stronger, more centered, and more flexible.

I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years. When I moved to Portland in 2019, the Paxson Yoga and Wellness Center was recommended to me. At that time it was the Gudmedstad Yoga Studio. This center is one of the best studios I have practiced at. I have been to many yoga studios over the years. Their emphasis on function, anatomy, and alignment has helped my practice tremendously. In the last four years of my yoga practice with such capable teachers, I have realized my need to build more strength, besides flexibility. As a result, my recent five-year bone scan showed that I went from signs of osteopenia to NORMAL bone health. My primary care provider was impressed! She encouraged me to keep doing what I was doing. Those standing poses made a big difference! I highly recommend Paxson Yoga Center for beginners through experienced yogis. It has a team of very knowledgeable teachers!

After years of spin and power yoga classes, this practice is just what I need! Classes are slow paced and focused on anatomy, but still very challenging. I always feel great when I leave here.

Even on gloomy days, after my class with Beth at Paxson Yoga, I walk out feeling taller, stronger and happier because I know I am doing something that is good for my posture and balance. As I age, I want to continue the positive journey that I started with Laila, caring for my body and my mind. Yoga is my pathway to those goals.
The positive and encouraging atmosphere at Paxson Yoga creates a calming community of wellness. Now, after the Covid-19 pandemic, being able to be in the studio and receive personal attention is wonderful!
Thank-you for helping me to work at accomplishing my goals.

I am 71 years old, have been practicing yoga at this studio since 1997. I consider this the most excellent yoga studio in Portland with superb instructors who are also trained physical therapists. The emphasis is on proper alignment and injury prevention. I am very thankful to have found this wonderful resource!

I have taken yoga at the Paxson (formerly Gudmestad) studio for more than 20 years. I credit much of my flexibility and strength to the excellent teachers at this studio using the Gudmestad tradition. The instruction and monitoring of each student prevents injury and assures that proper alignment is achieved. I highly recommend this studio!

All the teachers (many of whom are physical therapists or massage therapists) have a wealth of experience they share with warmth, support and humor.
The focus is alignment-based yoga in the Iyengar tradition which is slower moving compared to the typical vinyasa flow class offered at most studios.
But to be clear, slower does not mean easier.
You will learn about the anatomy of yoga and how to do poses without getting injured based on your individual bodyβs capabilities and limitations.
The cues to dial in each pose are priceless and I come out of each class feeling I just had 90 minutes of physical therapy- in addition to the grounding and weβll being that yoga provides.
Students and teachers alike have always been welcoming and friendly to me.

I haven't used the studio for yoga but have come over the years for physical therapy. The therapist are the best I have ever been to.

This studio is good if you've never taken yoga before or are recovering from an injury or illness. The instructors are all top-notch. You won't find better teachers in the Portland area. However, I have taken classes here over the years and each time I found the students to be very cliquey. Classes are populated with old, entitled, white people who are breath-takingly rude. If you are not in the inside of the clique, you are most definitely on the outside.
