Portland Rock Gym membership prices have been skyrocketing and it's becoming inaccessible for a lot of people. They are proud to not be a corporate business but charge corporate pricing for their day passes. I believe that Portland Rock Gym is not serving their community as well as when they first opened

I fractured my ankle on a V1 at PRG Beaverton 3 weeks ago; I slid off the top of the route and slammed my ankle into a hold on my way down. I had to hop across the gym on one leg with my belongings while staff stood and watched and offered no help. They had no crutches, no pain relief, and only brought an ice pack after I asked, along with extensive mandatory paperwork that I struggled to fill out while shivering from adrenaline.
Management later confirmed this response is aligned with PRG protocol and expressed unwillingness to make any changes based on my experience (such as stocking OTC painkillers or crutches onsite).

The climbing is really rough currently. Everyone is aware of the grading issues, and I mean everyone, as I overhear people talking about it litery every time in come in. The density of climbs is remarkably sparse, a lot of times wasting a majority of wall space but this is also fitting for this gym since the blueprint of the climbing walls in the building itself is incredibly wasteful with the square footage. Both of these issues compound into a really poor climbing environment because when you go in for new sets, after an already excruciatingly long period since the last new set of climbs, you only have a small handful of new climbs unless you're a V6 or higher climber.
I wanted to get numbers on this so with the new sets that got put up from the week of 8/5/2024, I actually counted the total of new climbs. The total was 19. Objectively that number looks really good to me but when I break it down to levels is when my frustrations really arise. 8 of these are V4-6 or higher with specifically tough grading. This is not inviting whatsoever, contrary to the absurd reasoning behind the already detested range grading.
It is no wonder why this place is still a ghost town besides peak hours. Despite having more bouldering wall space here than any individual Circuit Bouldering gym, this gym provides far less climbing. This gym is more equal parts "fitness," yoga and climbing than it is a rock gym. And not in a good way. It's like when you buy something to be the best of both worlds but when you put it into practice it can support both functions but is clearly far worse off than having one or the other.
All in all it's just a huge bummer. I started here at the grand opening where I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Everything was great and climb density was nearly perfect as there were as many climbs then, without the anvil boulder, as there are now with "25% more wall space." Sadly, immediately after opening it went straight down hill. The larger of the two overhangs they had was not reset for 2 months and to this point has still only been replaced only 2 or 3 times since the opening in SEPTEMBER of last year.
I've walked out of this gym frustrated or disappointed with these issues nearly every time I've left for at least my last 30 sessions but I can't abandon my extremely expensive membership so I'm stuck here for now.
This review is very similar to the other bad reviews so sadly I hold out no hope for a change in a positive direction. Those have been there for a long time and nothing has been addressed so maybe check it out after the next new things open 🤷🏼♂️
9/16 update: 0 of the before mentioned issues have been addressed to any capacity. The place is still dead almost all of the time because of it. The negative reviews also have far more reactions than the positive and it's not even close. It is hard to justify even showing up anymore because it causes more depression than gains at the end of the day. Can't even look at my climbing shoes with anything but disgust. For the "not corporate" thing they claim, this gym wholely embodies corporate climbing and is exactly everything that's wrong with gym climbing in general. Only comp style dynos (the not fun kind of dyno) and grading that forces you to feel like you're grade chasing even when you're warming up. It always just boils down to the fact that the climbing is the worst part of this "climbing" gym.
11/11 update: they're doing an event to boost the Google reviews of the gym, which 100% violates Google's TOS. Any review gets an entry to a sweepstakes for a month membership. Swing and miss after swing and miss. The single silver lining is the fitness, non climbing, equipment is abundant and no one is coming to use it. Sad caveat is that half of that new gym equipment either got set up or came in damaged because the standalone bench press and leg extension/hamstring curl machines are both unusable.
Idk if they are botting reviews or its just using the unethical review boosting but the collective review count is clearly not accurate. You'll see when you walk in.

The kids had a great class with Emily. She gave them some good pointers and was very encouraging and they enjoyed their time with her very much. After she gave me some information on how they did and encourage them to to bouldering, which they very much enjoyed, also. It was a very fun day and great experience that I would highly recommend for children. Definitely a good way to get exercise on our rainy cold winter days in Portland. Thank you, Emily for such a good and fun class for the kids.

Best gym in town by FAR. The Beaverton location is HUGE. I can tell it’s a professional space because the climbs are challenging yet fun. I like the auto belay area where I can get some solo rope time in. So nice to see the Portland area hosting national events for climbing (national youth climbing championships) and international athletes (climbers for the 2024 Olympics). The staff here is soooo kind. I’ve talked with management and front staff and all are super helpful and really love their jobs. I like that I get guest passes every month because I love to bring friends and family. PRG is evolving all the time. There is a now a smoothie station and outdoor slab climbing!! The whole outdoor area is just AMAZING. The gym has more than just climbing - I take the yoga and fitness classes, use the weight area, and even bring my laptop to work in their hang out area. Love this gym!!!! Everyone should check it out.

It’s disheartening to hear people complain about newbies coming to this gym when you’re excited about learning something new. If this is the culture here, I wish they had
told me before I spent my money. Maybe it’s a great gym for people with more experience, but I wouldn’t know because I would be taking my business elsewhere.

Update: 9/2/2025
Finally, they got stick brushes! +1 star.
Still, I am cancelling my membership when it runs out. I decided I don't like the atmosphere (avg. age is too low - mostly high/middle school kids - for bouldering) or the setting (confounding and awkward).
Please replace speed wall with a lead/tr wall. speed wall is a waste of space for 99%
It would be nice to have at least one 5.12 auto belay route. Sometimes climbing partners can't make it and bouldering constantly is hard on the body. I was told "auto belays are for beginners" "so we arent putting hard routes there".

I've held off rating this gym for a year. Initially, my impressions were really positive. The facilities are vast, the bouldering walls are really varied, and the amount of fitness spaces are very impressive (like their yoga studios and weight lifting area). The sets and styles of the climbing here, however, are really inconsistent and even dangerous. They frequently place the crux moves for their climbs at 12+ feet, which is irresponsible. I've been climbing for over 20 years, and I've never had a gym injury. PRG sets have moves that made me bail on more routes than any other gym. They also incorporate dual tex footholds, which for beginners is like stepping in black ice. While I acknowledge that having more technical routes, like V6 or higher, including dual tex in V2 or V3 level routes or ridiculous. Finally, the people at the front desk are pretty somber and grim. I felt like I was crossing the Iron Curtian every time I came in with my buddies.

Been climbing here since the location opened; it's a very spacious bouldering and top rope gym with a full free weight area, treadmills, yoga rooms, a fitness studio, and large locker rooms with saunas. It's large enough that even when very crowded the gym feels spacious.
I recently took the "Intro to Belay" class with Kevin. It ended up being a 1:1 session and was very informative for someone who had never done top rope. I would highly recommend this gym as a main gym or just something to check out if you're in town!

This gym sells stickers that say "Not a Corporate Gym." I've never been in a community gym that felt the need to make that distinction. I've never been in a community gym where the staff never learned my name. I've never been in a community gym that costs $105/month (at time of posting) to be a member. TL;DR this is the worst gym I have ever been to in 10 years of climbing across the country, and if you have $105 to spend on a climbing membership in Beaverton, go to somewhere like Stoneworks and buy memberships for your friends too.
In my time as a member here I was aggrieved mostly by the setting and the culture perpetuated by the establishment. I'll start with the setting, which is at best uninspiring, awkward, and unfun. At worst (and not infrequently) sets are outright dangerous. With awkward low-level climbs, particularly tall slabby boulders, it is hard to find a good entry-point for new climbers. I've had many friends new to climbing who are quickly discouraged and defeated by climbs well within their skill level because the movement is unfun, difficult to decipher, and honestly a little terrifying, just being 12+ feet off the pad on a slab. For more difficult sets, there is no pedagogy or sense of progression. Even at the most convolutedly-set gyms, I would see movement in V7+ sequences emulated in sets of a lower grade, but that is not the case here. Much of this has to do with their insistence on comp-style setting rather than including more prep for outdoor climbing. It also gives the feeling of a distinct lack of experience/direction in setting. Sets are incoherent, jumbled, and, again, unfun.
What's more, walls are so sparsely set that your options for what to climb are surprisingly limited given the size of the facility. Coupled with the fact that setting for the comp team is clearly a priority, it is often the case that entire sections of the gym are inaccessible to members like me, either due to the comp-style or due to the fact they are just flat closed. At one point they stripped half of the ropes area for a clinic and walls were down for a week. When they returned, there were half as many sets as there were before. I still paid the full fee that month for the privilege.
Maybe worst of all, sets are consistently dangerous. Climbing is an inherently dangerous sport, but this gym is full of pulley-popping V3's, committing heel-hooks at the top of boulder problems, spike-pits of volumes at the bottom of climbs, ankle-breaking holds under precarious feet, awkward dynos, wandering clipping lines, and a persistence in setting footholds directly underneath the rope line on lead climbs. It is also worth mentioning that for the longest time their topropes were single-wrapped around the anchor drum with no backup, meaning if the climber unweighted the rope at the top, they would be in danger shearing the rope and/or decking. I believe they fixed this to a double wrap, but the fact that it happened at all in a gym this new and expensive shocked me.
This brings me to the culture. It is hard to encapsulate something like this in a concrete review, but the overall feeling I had whenever I got there was loneliness. And for someone who has considered whatever local climbing gym a home for a decade, this was both shocking and depressing. The only staff who ever greeted me coming in were still in training, and somehow during training they lost that friendliness. The climbing team runs rampant, pushing climbers out of walls and training spaces, oftentimes aided by the coaches. And new climbers aren't taught the general ethics of being in a climbing gym, so there isn't conversation, just people fighting for space.
If you've read this far you're either very bored or very mad, but I hope this helps someone. I'd like to see the passion for climbing and community persist despite the commodification of the sport, but institutions like this masquerading as a community space are not the answer. You don't get to be community when it's convenient for you, and corporate when it's expensive for me.

This place is awesome - huge bouldering and rope climbing sections with a ton of routes at all levels. The variety keeps things interesting, and there’s always something new to try. The staff is great across the board. I recently took a lead climbing class with Jacob, super informative and really helped me feel more confident on the wall. I’ve been climbing for about five months and have taken both their “Learn to Belay” and “Learn to Lead” classes. Highly recommend this gym, whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up your skills.

I've been climbing for 8 years and I've been a regular at 10 gyms in that time. PRG is my favorite. I used to live downtown and recently moved here and it's genuinely incredible and not even finished yet! Friendly staff, great sets (especially in the v5-8 range), tons of training equipment. The only thing missing is an assisted pull up machine to help folks who are training up to harder routes, so I hope to see one in the future.
After climbing here for a year, I'm removing a star. The facilities are still incredible but I'm seeing a bad pattern of newer climbers getting discouraged by the setting here and I agree. The v2-3 sets are too physically demanding and there's not enough variety to be fun. Please do a better job to make welcoming and varied routes that people who can't do a pull up yet can enjoy.

PRG Beaverton is a world class gym with an incredible variety of bouldering, roped climbing, fitness facilities, classes, and coaching. I had a 1-on-1 coaching session with Gabe yesterday, and he gave me feedback that was extremely helpful in advancing my climbing. There are areas where I knew I needed to improve (for example, I'm not good at heel hooks), but Gabe watched me climb and identified areas for growth that I had never even considered (maintaining tension in my lower body and using that tension to generate momentum on overhangs). He took the time to explain techniques in-depth in a way which was easy to understand. I know I can make big improvements and I'll definitely be back for more. That's the power of good coaching!

Updating the rating because they deserve it. I've gotten used to the rating change; I just read it as the middle number so that works for me. This facility is top notch and the sets are really good. Keep up the good work!
______________
Great facility and staff! But they just changed their rating system to using a range. I really don't like gyms that do this. It feels cheap and lazy. They say it's to be "inclusive", but this is a sport and a V1 is very different from a V3. I don't put a weight range on my dumbells to feel inclusive.
Will give 5 stars if they go back to the better rating system.

I've been climbing at this gym for a year now and I absolutely love it! The setting is varied and modern, there are several walls for each type of climbing style, there are multiple training boards (Kilter, Moonboard) and a large spray wall, and there's even outdoor bouldering! After the opening of the rope climbing section I feel like the gym is truly complete. There is some empty space near the back of the gym where I feel like they could put more stuff, and maybe that's coming! The grades are banded and allow for different people to assign their own feeling to a particular climb. In my experience, the setters do a pretty good job of nailing the middle of the banded grades. You can also check exactly what the setter thought about the grade in an app called Kaya. Overall, I wouldn't rather climb anywhere else in the PDX area.
The staff has always been super friendly to me and helped me out with whatever I need. Recently, I had a private lesson with Gabe and it was absolutely fantastic! I feel like I was learning a lot in a short time frame and the lesson gave me so much to think about going forward in my training. I will definitely be booking more as I want to truly push my climbing to the next level in the coming years and the lessons with Gabe are certainly going to help me achieve that.

Been climbing since 2018, moved 6 months ago and have been trying this gym since. Quick summary: PRG does not spark joy. It's not a terrible place; it's just overpriced and underdeveloped. If you are a novice/intermediate climber in Portland, I suggest you check out Stoneworks or The Circuit (2 years and 3 years climbing at each respectively).
Pros:
-Bouldering + Ropes.
-The Anvil boulder always has cool/interesting routes.
-Late night front desk staff are polite.
-Fun spray wall.
-Variety of Kilter Boards
Cons:
-One of, if not the most, expensive option in town.
-Poorly communicated price raises (finding out after autopay hits). (Only gym I've experienced this with).
-Being in a month-to-month contract does not save you from a price raise.
-Only 2 guest passes a month AND you cannot use both guest passes on the same person in one month. (?????)
-Shortened night hours on weekends compared to competitors in town.
-Large amounts of unused space on and off the wall. Routes feel sparse and building feels empty/devoid of character.
-Routes are infrequently updated with little communication on what is being changed or when.
-On-site manager came across as rude and dismissive in casual interactions early on. (To be fair I haven't run into him in a few months, maybe it was a stressful time or something).
-SO SO SO MANY DUAL-TEX FOOTHOLDS (with the slick texture in every inopportune spot).
-Unsafe/High Commitment finishing sequences high on the wall
(unreliable foot holds and technical hand holds).
-Very few intermediate level routes. Most V1-3's and 2-4's feel like climbing a ladder. Most routes beyond that feature extreme technique or physique requirements to meaningfully engage with or enjoy.
-Routes feel very linear/hyper-focused on a specific sequence (there are few creative ways to tackle, circumvent, or modify routes that are up for your personal enjoyment).
-Small exercise area for non-climbers.
Not a pro or Con:
-Not many people using the gym at night. Great if you want privacy, terrible if you want community.
-The gym seems primarily focused on difficulty/high level climbs. Great if you want to push yourself, terrible if you want to casually enjoy the sport.
Final thoughts: To me, PRG is like whole foods, it's an overpriced location for people who want to tell themselves they're getting the best without doing any research. It's the person in a hobby who buys the most expensive gear before ever engaging in the hobby. Perhaps, if you're in the top 1% of climbers, you'll find the gym to be exactly what you want. However, I think that if you climb as a way to stay fit, or a way to have fun, then this location will offer you very little. I've tried for half a year to learn how to love this place, but I just keep failing. It's hard to stomach paying the prices they ask when PRG has slowly sapped me of my enthusiasm for climbing. I would get more enjoyment trying to find 101 ways to train on a fingerboard than return to PRG.
Maybe if things change in the future I'll try again. I want to like this location and I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I just can't keep it up. If I knew what I knew now, I would've kept climbing at The Circuit and found a different part of town to move to, but that's life.

Overall great gym, large space, great amenities and classes, and good challenging setting through out.
I do however have a major complaint about the top rope situation. The ropes are left with several extra meters of slack that is left to drag on the ground and get in the way. Supposedly this is because “we need the slack so we can make the ropes last longer and shorten them as they see use”, if that is the case then please explain to me why no other gym in the entire continental US partakes in this frustrating practice, a small amount for slack is understandable, this much is just sloppy. Most recently they have decided to put top ropes on nearly every lead climb resulting in a highly frustrating lead climbing experience where rope is left lying all over the ground, stepped on and often left laying on the concrete while the rope drags on your back since there is nowhere to tie it off. On top of all that for being a brand new gym the ropes they are using for top ropes are unusually stiff in many places. I’m unsure if the spool they purchased prior to opening the gym is just a bad batch but it’s unfortunate to see such a poorly handled top rope setup throughout the entire tall wall section.

Beyond the sheer size of it (it’s the largest climbing gym in the Pacific Northwest) it’s so well designed! It’s got a great layout, and great locker rooms and weight rooms, and TONS of included weight training classes and yoga classes.

Big shout out for the awesome, friendly and professional customer service by SJ, who handled my lead test!

This really is the best climbing gym in Portland. I've found such a great community of supportive climbers amongst the members of PRG, as well as the staff (Shoutout Hannah). The gym itself is massive. The newest expansion of the top rope hall + outdoor boulder makes this gym feel world-class. The space is clean, and the locker rooms are great. The sets are challenging, with a wide variety of problems that could suit a climber from any skill level. I do wish there was some way the speed climbing wall could be utilized regularly for members, and that ropes could be rented out for lead climbs. Regardless, I could not recommend this gym enough!

Went to the 11/16 grand opening party and was very impressed! This is a world class facility that gives Portland climbers everything they deserve. Bouldering, roped climbing, excellent weight area, sauna, spacious locker rooms, common areas for lounging, yoga studios, a shop and more.
I was on the fence about choosing PRG or Planet Granite for my membership since PG has a lot of the amenities PRG was once missing, but that's no longer an issue!
I'm not sure I understand all the negativity surrounding the ranged grading system. I'm 6'4", so I often find that I can reach past crux moves which may have been set by shorter climber. Therefore the difficulty of a route sometimes may be on the lower side for me. I'm all for taking different body types into consideration when grading a route. Love this!
As a Portlander this location is a little out of the way for me, but I would definitely make the trip on a Friday after work or to spend a day there on a weekend.
Very excited for the future of this location!!!!

There are a lot of options for indoor climbing in this area and, having tried them all, this is the best without a doubt. I’ve been coming here since it first opened and seeing it get built has been a real privilege. At every stage this gym has had incredible route setting, top notch equipment (even when it was half empty), and friendly inclusive staff. It is a step up in terms of difficulty, but don’t let that stop you from trying this world class location. The lovely folks behind the counter are happy to help with questions and inform about upcoming events and classes, and it has so much space even peak times aren’t too packed. They are just about to open the top rope and lead climbing section, taking this from a really good bouldering gym to an all around, out of this world, can’t miss destination. They’ve hosted local climbing competitions, team USA Olympic climbers, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I love this gym, and you will too. Try it!

This is maybe the best rock climbing gym I've ever been to! Enormous space with tons of great bouldering (and rope climbing coming soon I hear). Great facilities, showers and a sauna. Yoga and fitness classes included in the entry fee. The thing that really sets it apart for me is the workout area - it would take me forever to list all the equipment and machines they have. Just this workout area alone is better equipped than any other commercial gym I've been to, let alone climbing gym! Not only do they have a huge range of dumbbells, barbells, bumper plates, machines, everything you'd want from a typical gym, they also have tons of specialty equipment as well - hack squat machines, Nordic curl benches, hex bars for deadlifts. All they need now is a safety squat and they'll have literally everything you could ever ask for!

The new and "improved" range grade system sucks. Misleading and confusing. Are there different starts to the same boulder problem, are there different variations within the range given, including or omitting any specific holds?...I feel I needed a lesson to understand just that. Please, bring back the regular grading system. Is there a petition to sign?
The landing pads are unsafe and injury-prone. Yesterday I got the impression I was falling on padded concrete. Then took a controlled fall from half way up the boulder and the result is an injured lower back, which would now require weeks of a rehab.
I would not come back until the roped section opens up in November.

The walls themselves are good and the staff are nice but the gym is badly run and issues raised by members are not addressed. This makes the experience significantly worse than it should be.
If you enjoy projecting boulders over multiple sessions, this gym is poor choice. They sometimes take problems down with little to no notice if they want the walls for an event they didn't bother to notify members about ahead of time. This is a real bummer for those who invest a lot of time in long term projects and is the biggest factor in my rating.
After stripping the walls for events, it takes weeks for them to replace the problems from the event with new ones. They stripped several of the walls again after the event but only set a handful of problems on each of them and it's been like this for weeks.
The lack of notice before taking problems down is a specific example of their subpar overall communication. They often ignore emails and there is no consistent messaging. Different employees will tell you different things and no one seems to be sure about what is going on.
They also don't have a public route setting schedule. Normally, new problems are set on Thursdays and you can guess which section will be next based on how long the problems have been up. However, they sometimes deviate from this with no warning.
They recently switched to using grade ranges instead of single grades. I find it less satisfying to send a "V5-7" compared to a V6. The ranges make little sense as there is a huge difference between a V5 and a V7. The stated rational for switching to the ranges is inclusivity. However, making problems possible for climbers of different heights should simply be part of good setting. I hope that the appearance of grade ranges does not mean that grades are going to start becoming much less accurate. The change happened just before their new bouldering wall is set to open so I can't help but wonder if the real motivation is to make setting more efficient by reducing the time required for forerunning.
They also don't seem inclined to listen to member feedback about other inclusivity issues. I've pointed out to management several times that their pullup bars (with a single exception outside of the main fitness area) are at the right height for someone around 6'3". Unless the gym's goal is to cater mostly to tall men, it might be a good idea to consider lowering some of the bars. Currently, they are a pain to use for shorter men and it is even more of a problem for women since they are shorter on average. The bars are clearly adjustable by removing a few bolts with a wrench and putting them in a lower hole so it would be easy to lower some of them.
The grading used to be pretty stiff at boulders below V5 compared to other gyms but it has unfortunately gotten a bit softer over the last few months. Some of the overhung V3s in particular used to have pretty technical footwork for the grade which made them more fun and better for practicing technique. The problems also used to tend to be crimpier than other gyms but now it's mostly larger holds with only a few crimpy problems. These changes have eroded the unique character that this gym used to have.
The music used to be at a reasonable volume but now it's too loud. Contrary to popular belief at many rock gyms, it is not necessary to crank it up so much.

We were so excited for this new rock gym coming to the west side but it was spoiled by the very unfortunate customer service or lack thereof at the front desk. Apparently they can't afford to have youth coaches for classes they advertised online 2 days earlier because of a 2 to 3 million dollar build out of their gym. That's literally word for word what we were told at their front desk. I was extremely disappointed and can't find myself walking into that gym again.

The gym is very beautiful, and i have high hopes for it. However, the bouldering is all wonky because there is a range instead of a grade. This makes it harder to understand what the boulder actually is. Also, the climbs are far harder than what they say. At my local gym, a V4, there feels like a V2 here.

Visited from WA and I was very impressed with the bouldering (rest of gym is still under construction) that they have to offer. My gym doesn't do strict grades and does flexible grades like PRG but with a smaller range. I can't believe so many bad reviews are coming from weird gym bros bringing that toxic gym culture into climbing. Relax, it's not that serious and it's easy to figure out. At my gym, a certain climb would be graded a V5-V6 because depending on height/length a climb could be easier or harder for you than the route setter intended. At PRG, a certain climb would be graded V4-V6 with the "true grade" being in the middle so V5.
Back to my review... I found a wide range of climbs for beginners and more advanced climbers with plenty of unique problems, holds, and angles to fit whatever your climbing style is. The route setters really did a great job and I can't wait to see what top rope, lead, and speed climbing routes they put in once the rest of the gym is finished!

The grading system is a range grade now which is honestly just kinda dumb. They tell you a "little tip" is to take the grade in the middle as more of a true grade, but that then kinda defeats the whole purpose of the range grade if you're going to say that. There is no range its just the one in the middle. They said it was to "be more inclusive" but this a sport. Saying "some might be easier for tall people and some might be harder for short people and vice versa" is kinda a dumb point. You said it yourself "vice versa" so some will be hard for me and some wont thats the sport just cause I can't do one im not gonna call it harder than it is. It's kinda just lying to yourself if you can't do a v3 so you call it a v4 is silly. If you can't climb a v3 then you can't do a v3 nothing wrong with that but you lie to yourself if you change the grade because you can't do it. Idk I might just be ranting and might be harsh, but it's a sport anyone can do it just don't lie to yourself

At the moment of writing this review, the gym is under construction and only the bouldering section is open to the public. However, there are so many bouldering routes with many of each grade (accessible to all climbers, even several VB routes!), and the routes are designed very well. There are also locker rooms with showers, a sauna, and towels.
Overall, this gym is absolutely wonderful. It's a bit pricey, but I think it's absolutely worth it because the quality of my time there is incredible.
If you found this review useful, consider liking it! It helps me and others out.

Had one of my favorite climbs ever today at BRG, sorry, Beaverton PRG. The energy in this gym is electric right now. I’ve made a ton of new friends and gotten into shape doing it. Moonboards, kilterboards x3 (including a slab capable mega-board), Dan Woods board ( rumor is this is super rare ). The new bolder is massive. The setters are really taking it to the next level physically and psychologically. The lockers rooms are gorgeous with towel service, waterfall shower heads and the best gym sauna experiences in Portland. It’s only gonna get better. The struts are up for the lead and top-rope section, but bouldering is the best training for that anyways. Your gym has the ability to suspend your membership. Try this out for a month. As it stands, the location of the new gym is the biggest contributer to my rating. It's super nice to have a new gym closer to the Beaverton area than places like stoneworks and the circuit. The two biggest complaints I have right now are that the routes aren't reset often enough (feels like you're climbing the same stuff for weeks) and that the day pass is $24. Will definitely change my review once the new top rope section is completed and once the routes get reset more often, but right now you may find more enjoyment at other gyms if the location isn't applicable to you, or if you want a cheaper pass with access to more routes.

Great gym for intermediate climbers with many challenging, well set routes. However, in such a large space they have very few routes that feel approachable for new climbers and that feels limiting to introduce people to the sport. So excited for this location, there’s been a gap in Beaverton for so long. Having been a couple times now, I can modestly say that the routes are fun and quite challenging! The holds are also fresh and take a toll on my hands, this won’t be a problem for long if I keep coming back lol.
My only critique is that it feels a bit sterile…not much gym culture yet and the space is not at all homey/cozy, like The Circuit. Okay, one more critique, the routes are spaced far apart and there are typically not enough exit holds— in my humble opinion.
Otherwise, I dig this gym and I’m beyond hyped for the sauna.

The workout areas are more than I could have asked for: treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, and a massive weight lifting area. The staff were also very kind and helpful. I can't wait to start my membership and start taking classes!

Big interesting boulders with lots of variety in the wall shape and setting style. Bright natural light, and plenty of space to walk and get around between the boulders safely. I really enjoyed my time there.

The new Portland Rock gym is really amazing. It’s great to finally have a climbing gym out in the Beaverton area; let alone, one with such amazing climbs, fitness equipment, and space to workout/climb! The staff are the best too!

Super convenient location and bouldering area at least the size of the Circuit in Tygard. Big variety in routes and holds. Highly recommend!

Just went to the new location today! We had a great time bouldering on all the new routes and holds! There were so many fun and challenging climbs to work on. There's also a huge fitness area, can't wait to come back and explore more!
