Tenley is hands-down the best Pilates teacher in Portland if you want to focus on functional movement and get a serious workout. I come from an athletic background and first discovered Pilates in 2020 through a work-trade at a studio in Nashville—and quickly became hooked. Since then, I’ve taken private, online, and group classes in NYC, LA, Nashville, and Portland, and I can honestly say Tenley is the most skilled and talented teacher I’ve ever worked with. She has such a deep understanding of the body and gives thoughtful, precise cues that go far beyond the generic ones you can hear in group classes.

I love starting my Saturdays with her, and her online classes have made it possible for me to practice with her more often at home - which I love bc my schedule is all over the place. On top of her expertise, she’s warm, welcoming, and genuinely cares about her students. If you’re looking for a teacher who brings both knowledge and heart to every class, Tenley is the one.

Would give this studio infinite stars! At Rhythms, I have had the most compassionate, holistic, sweet, and fun fitness experiences. I get emotional telling people about what I have witnessed at Rhythms, in myself and in others. There is safety and support in this space. I have not felt this safe in my being before, especially in this type of atmosphere. Not to mention, I'm getting strong as hell!!
Tenley is fun and silly and brings a challenging workout, but it's more than that. Tenley has adept knowledge of anatomy and Pilates. They have an incredible skill of being able to really see you and bring you to your next level with care and foresight. It's more than studying or practicing Pilates and fitness for many years; though, I know they have done that too! There is a palpable layer of passion and knowledge and care that you just have to experience! Thank you Tenley! Thank you to everyone I've met in my 8 months there. Rhythms has changed my life.

Tenley
Looking for an instructor that makes you laugh as much as she makes you sweat? Look no further, Tenley’s classes provide the perfect balance of work and play. Even beginners who come in feeling wary about their new practice will leave feeling satisfied. Got specific needs? No problem because Tenley is a pro and will help you reach your fitness goals no matter where you’re at in your Pilates journey.
Studio
The studio is very inviting and encourages a friendly vibe in every class. It’s clean, has nice lighting, wood floors (not concrete like some other studios!) and all props are provided (routinely sanitized, ofc). I find it to be a welcoming space and I believe you will too.

I moved to Portland a little over a year ago and found Rhythms pretty early in my time here. I was just looking for a good workout that was close to home but I’ve found so much more!

Tenley is absolutely amazing. She’s a phenomenal instructor who will push you to challenge yourself. She’s expanded the studio and brought in other remarkable instructors who each bring their own energy and vibe to class. And most importantly, she cares deeply about her students and she’s cultivated an amazing community with BIPOC women in mind.

I’ve never had so much fun and felt so safe in a workout studio before and I encourage you to stop by and give Rhythms a try!

rhythms is a really special studio—I could not recommend it enough. I had never done pilates before, in large part because of the connotation it has as a wealthy, thin, white woman's activity. I’m so glad rhythms is my first exposure because it’s the exact opposite. If you've ever felt self-conscious during a group exercise class, this is the place for you! Tenley is an amazing instructor and cool as hell. She pushes you in a fun low-key way but will never make you feel bad for struggling. Every body is welcome, and as someone who struggles with injuries and chronic pain, nothing has helped me get stronger in a low-impact way like pilates has. There's always a modification to make things more accessible. Other workouts have left me in pain and feeling overstretched, including yoga, but this has been such a game-changer.

The space itself has the most gorgeous natural light, and everyone I’ve met in classes is so sweet. They also have sound baths every month and really cute community events. I'm so grateful to have found rhythms!

I’ve been taking classes at Rhythms for over a year and I can’t speak highly enough about my experience. The classes are fun and challenging. In other studios, I would easily tire of the repetitive nature, but not here. Each class feels fresh while also allowing me to build on my practice.

Above all else, Rhythms is a place I enjoy being. Tenley has cultivated such a warm and welcoming community. Whether it’s the many community events or just chatting before class, Rhythms is truly special. I’m so glad I found this space!

After years of not feeling empowered physically or mentally by other studios and fitness approaches, I did not expect to find a Pilates safe haven when I walked into Rhythms over 8 months ago.
There are not enough words that can depict the passion and authenticity that is Tenley, but as a teacher, they never fail to make you feel genuinely cared about and supported no matter how much you’re sweating and shaking in class. Pilates has allowed me to build muscle in places I never thought were possible and as someone with asthma, my breathing has felt deeper, stronger, and more controlled.
Rhythms is more than just a place to work out — it’s a whole experience, a community, and a sanctuary for your body and mind. If you’re looking for a Pilates studio that’s equal parts working out, self-love, and pure joy, I can’t recommend Rhythms enough!

This space and the people that host it
are intentional, authentic, culture shifting, and community oriented beings.
Having just recently relocated to Portland, I had come across their instagram, and from first glance I could feel the draw to be there.
From the first class I took, I could feel that resonate immediately in my body.
Feels so welcoming and easy to be around everyone.
Thank you all for creating a space such as this.
Can’t wait for the next class

I recently attended the rhythms of nature “Apples” event at Douglas Farm. I had the sweetest, most relaxing time there. I have always wanted to try a soundbath and this was definitely an amazing first experience! Diane and Tenley were so welcoming and kind and I enjoyed the experience immensely. 10/10!

The moment I stepped into rhythms, I felt in my bones that my fitness journey, and life, would change forever. After one class, I purchased a membership almost immediately. It was my first time seeing a Pilates studio founded by another person of color--someone uniquely positioned to empathize with the intersection of my fitness journey and diverse background. Tenley has not only created a space for us to embrace movement as an expression of the seasonal changes we experience within ourselves and with the world around us, but also a place for friendship, laughter, and community--all connected through a genuine invitation to be our authentic, whole or broken, selves. They have captured something I have been seeking in my fitness journey for a long, long time--and they turned it into a movement. Highly recommend rhythms and its incredible teachers!

I love this studio and the instructors. The energy is welcoming and fun. The methods are presented in ways that are easy to understand and follow. My body loves the classes! Yes, it is hard. Yes, it is challenging. But worth it! I gained muscle is places I only knew when I was weight lifting in college. I was able to return to running after a few months of taking classes. If you want to be part of an evolving, collaborative, invigorating movement community, Rhythms Community Studio is it!

I have been taking on-line classes with Tenley for several years.
Each weeks class usually has a different focus. I like how she utilizes different tools for the class including exercise bands, rollers, and massage balls.

She has helped me with a frozen shoulder and hip issues. Tenley is very knowledgeable and is a great teacher.

tenley has truly curated and pieced together a really special, inclusive, safe and welcoming place to be. i mean it when i say that what she has created is truly one of a kind. portland needed this, i needed this.. honestly, we all need this. whether i'm in the space for a pilates/yoga class -- learning how to connect breath to movement and dropping into my body in a way i really hadn't experienced before coming here -- or i'm immersing myself in a sound bath, or a night of dance/movement... i just feel so supported, comfy, seen and *excited* to be there. feeling at home in my body has always been something to navigate, especially within group settings, and since day one, tenley has been a pro at bringing together the most authentic, genuine and open hearted folks. naturally i could gush about the studio forever, and tenley and her ability to not only be the most bad-a** instructor, but also one who incorporates so much play and fun into her workouts -- but i'll stop here. if you're looking for community, for movement, for good music and heart opening exercises and a studio full of light, good energy, and incredible people.. look no further. rhythms is truly the place to be :,)

During the pandemic I’d been doing yoga and home calisthenic workouts in my living room, and in the recent months knew I was ready to take my practice out and find a studio, instructor, and community to really complete and ground my journey. However, that process can be so intimidating. With the number of options out there, and my fear of pretentious and misaligned energy in the space, I found myself paralyzed and unsure of where to start. How blessed and lucky I felt to have found Rhythms. Tenley has created the most perfect environment, found the most skilled teachers and instructors, and has crafted a beautiful experience to be had in this studio. Every class, workshop, and event is a highly curated and detailed undertaking that satisfies all the senses. You’ll feel appreciated, cared for, and accommodated at any skill and experience level. I’m so excited, and feel so lucky to get to watch this place unfold as a powerfully diverse and inclusive movement community in Portland.

I started taking online classes with Tenley in February 2021, having never tried Pilates previously. Prior to my first group class, we met online and she did a thorough health and fitness review as well as took me through the basics and language and cues used in class. I’ve been taking both group and private classes since then, usually 3-4 times a week. We generally have a focus for the week, but no two classes are ever identical. Tenley does a quick checkin with each of us prior to class and at the close of class. She takes into account any difficulties you may be having with your health in general and body specifically and incorporates adaptations as necessary.

Tenley’s knowledge of Pilates is wide ranging and her teaching methods are excellent. We incorporate different props in sessions and they add to the experience and help us perfect our techniques.

When I began classes 11 months ago, I had terrible plantar fasciitis which had persisted for over a year, tendinitis in one elbow, bursitis in one knee, and had rotator cuff injuries to both shoulders. At approximately the six-month mark, the fasciitis, bursitis and tendinitis were resolved. I had some shoulder weakness but it continues to improve and I no longer experience any pain and my range of motion is vastly improved.

To say Tenley’s classes have changed my life and outlook is no exaggeration. I feel strong and confident and look forward to each session. Join us, you won’t regret it!

i was hesitant to try reformer pilates because of money, but practicing with tenley almost weekly has been one of the best investments i could have made for myself. i’m a very active person and i’ve had multiple injuries, so i’m thankful she has been SO accommodating to how my body is feeling that week. she gives me lots of adjustments based on my injury and she reaaally knows what she’s talking about.

i wanted to rebuild my muscles for snowboarding season (post injury) and pilates has been a great way to gently ease my body back into movement. tenley and i have so much and i feel like she entertains my jokes and feeling silly while also motivating me to try harder when i want to give up. i would 10/10 recommend. my experience has been nothing but positive!
