We had our son’s birthday party at Rock Haven today and it was a major success! Our son loves bouldering at Rock Haven and all of his friends had a great time at the party. Joseph was amazing with our rowdy group of middle school boys and they loved having him play games with them! Thank you for a great party space and great employees!

Our kids in Elementary and Middle school went here for a field trip and they were fantastic! Darrell was one of the staff walking around helping students and teachers out. He was super friendly, informative, and great with the kids. Jenn was very helpful and great too!

Not returning. I attended for the first time and left feeling dismissed and unwelcome. It felt like a bother to ask questions or get assistance. My child has disabilities and Darelle made it feel like he was a burden and seemed to have an attitude the entire time.

After registering online for a community event, I received a call from Darrel, who informed me that because our address sits right on the edge of Gresham and Troutdale, my children were not eligible to participate. While my children attend school in the Gresham-Barlow School District and are deeply connected to the Gresham community, we were told we could not attend simply due to our address.
It wasn’t just what was said but how it was said. The conversation felt cold and unwelcoming, which was disappointing, especially for an event focused on community building. I left the interaction feeling discouraged and unwelcome.
Our family has been part of this community for over a decade — through schools, friendships, and activities — and being excluded from something meant to bring people together felt disheartening. I wouldn’t have minded paying full price; it was about being included in something positive for our children and community.

This climbing gym has become such a special place for our family. When we first walked in, we were immediately struck by how welcoming the staff were. They take the time to explain things, answer questions, and make sure everyone — from total beginners to seasoned climbers — feels comfortable. The walls are creative, challenging, and constantly refreshed, which keeps every visit exciting.
What’s made the biggest difference for us, though, is the community. It’s not just a gym; it’s a place where people cheer each other on, swap tips, and celebrate progress big and small. My kiddo joined their competition team, and the transformation has been incredible to watch. The coaches are patient, motivating, and know how to bring out the best in each athlete. My child is not only excelling as a climber but also building confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging. It’s been amazing to see them light up every time practice rolls around and to watch their skills grow week after week.
As a parent, I couldn’t be more grateful for the supportive, safe, and encouraging environment this gym provides. Whether you’re just curious about climbing, looking for a fun way to stay active, or hoping to join a competitive team, this place truly has it all. It’s become more than just a gym for us — it’s a second home.

Hands down one of the best climbing gyms I’ve ever visited. The facility is super clean, the boulders are thoughtfully set for every level, and the staff as well as the owner are welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help. 10/10, a must-stop if you are in the Portland area!

Great gym, great owner. You can tell she really cares about the gym. We really enjoyed our visit. The setting isn't S tier but it's a solid B+ with some really really cool routes in there that I'd definite give S tier. We'll definitely be back and look forward to events at this one.

Before moving out of country, I climbed here for a year and half and always had a great time! Management is wonderful and friendly, the routes are friendly to beginners, its very clean, and constantly changing in a good way. Great for kids, beginners and for those who want community! I took the beginner bouldering class and had a great time. Please give this place a chance!

If you have the time to climb here frequently, it's well worth the money. I used to go twice a week with my brother, had a great time, and felt like I was getting a lot of value for the price. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my membership because they don't offer anything that would allow me to continue climbing just once per week. I was paying $60/month to go eight times per month, so I'd expect to pay something like $30/month to visit just four times per month. I emailed the owner and he told me that they operate just like other gyms in the area and that they have nothing to offer me that aligns to my needs. Now that it's clear that they don't try to differentiate themselves much from the competition, it's easier for me to cancel my membership. Thanks for the good times and I'm very sad that it's coming to an end.

Really enjoyed Rock Haven!!
Pros: Very friendly welcoming staff, they even let me use their tripod for taking climbing footage! Variety of food and drink. Clean and spacious dressing rooms with showers and lockers. Climbing area was very clean and open as well with lots of seating and nice natural light. A good variety of climbing, overhang, slab etc. and the gym wasn’t busy at all on a Saturday afternoon.
Only cons: The setting could be slightly repetitive with movement/holds but with that said I did get on many fun boulders. Used to V grading system but didn’t mind the color system as much I thought I would. The workout/weight room was nice and private w a good amount of equipment, was hoping they had a treadmill but unfortunately just had bikes & rowing machines for cardio.
Overall would definitely return if in the area again!! Great Vibes!

It's great to have a local gym, especially one as wonderful as rock haven. The staff is incredibly kind, the routes are fun, the entire gym is essentially spotless, everything is great. Rock Haven goes out of its way to create a community space. There are free classes - yoga, HIT, bouldering - there are league nights, special events, and more. As far as I'm aware, it's all included with a membership or day pass, which is a great deal. The gym strives to be a pillar of the community and an inclusive space. I appreciate all the work the team puts in, and love being a member of the community.

I really enjoyed my time at rock haven, they had unique routes, and friendly staff. When it came time to cancel my membership I asked an employee how to go about it. They said wait till the end of the month and cancel online. when I did that the owner informed me that they have a 3 day cancellation policy and I had to pay for an extra month. When I said an employee had told me to wait they stood behind the contract and wouldnt offer a refund. I was dissapointed in the short sited customer service that got them an extra months dues but lost them much future business.

The staff here is super nice and accommodating. They also have plenty of refreshments and snacks available for sale, including beer. Not a big fan of the color grading system as opposed to using v grades. That being said, the root setters do a fantastic job of creating very imaginative climbs at lower to mid levels mainly. They have a few at high levels but I don't think there's a high demand for that out here. I get the gist of what they're trying to do in regards to get more entry level and new climbers. Being this far out from Portland, getting new climbers into the sport is a solid business model and I always have a lot of fun while I'm there.

I don’t think I’ll be returning to this gym. I initially loved it, and it might be a great place to start a team when my daughter turns nine. However, I find it difficult to enjoy my time here as a single parent. I can’t work out because I need to stay with her in the very limited and boring kids’ area. She isn’t allowed to join me in the larger climbing area because she doesn’t meet the age requirement, which I understand. That said, the setup makes it challenging for single parents to spend quality time with their kids while also enjoying the gym.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sorry

We absolutely love this gym. First of all, hands down the CLEANEST gym I have ever set foot in. Daryl puts hard work into making this place spotless.
It’s important to me to have a well equipped workout room at my climbing gym and they have it.
The setting is creative and seems to accomodate to different heights and genders. They have a good variety of holds. The staff is kind and made my day every time I come in.
It’s never super busy and overwhelming like other climbing gyms in the area. Truly felt like a haven when I’d come in.
The price to value compared to what I have paid for other climbing gyms is pretty great, very reasonable.
I would say the only thing that would make Rock Haven better is acquiring more holds and increasing the setting density, but again there’s still lots to do :)

I climb at this gym strictly out of convenience as it's way closer to me than the circuit. Here's my thoughts:
Pros- everybody is super friendly, the gym and locker rooms are really clean. The last time I went there were some fun, interesting balancy problems.
Cons- not kids friendly at all. Under 7 can't even go in the big climbing area, even with an adult. They did put in a kids climbing area, but even at 4 and 2 my kids would be bored there in about 15 minutes. Also, huge waste of space inside the gym. For the amount of square feet they have, they could have put in a lot more climbable walls. The walls are also boring. Either vert or some degree of overhang, but no real corners (one very limited corner) for stemming or stairs. They use large features but to a limited degree. I wish there were way more slopers as I can never find great sloper routes and I've been a bunch. No slackline, but that seems to be the new trend.
Overall, it's just fine. I go there if I'm looking to get a workout in, but for a fun day off climbing I'll make the trek into Portland

Fun place to climb! competitive pricing, clean and a great community
i've been climbing for a while. the only sad parts are freezing/putting a hold on your account which you have to do online yourself and might have to wait 1-2 months for your account to be frozen/put on hold + freezing fee monthly(10$). and lastly the hours, as they aren't friendly to those who want to go after the evening rush due to their 9pm closing times except tues&thurs 10pm witch is when everyone is usually there due to group events or new routes being set up.
It's been fun!! but i rather go to gym where i can actually be able to climb due to my schedule.

I can't say enough good things about this gym! Cleanest gym I have ever been in, especially for a climbing gym. Route setting is super fun and creative and there is something fun for every skill level. Feels like routes are reset often enough that it always feels like there is something new to climb. Never feels overcrowded and the weight room has everything you could need. They have yoga classes but I haven't done any yet to speak on them otherwise. I like that there is a separate area for kids too, and kids under 7 aren't allowed on the big walls. Keeps everyone safe and happy! Only been here a couple months, but am loving it.

Best bouldering gym in the greater Portland area. Very low-key and unpretentious. I've been a member at Rock Haven for 6 months now. Rock Haven is such a fun and small gym. If you're curious about climbing but feel a little intimidated by going to a climbing gym, try this place out! I never climbed before, and the I (and the kids) had such a great time there. The staff and vibe really reminds me of hanging out with surfers. Like climbers use up all their adrenaline and stress hormones on their sport like surfers do. So when they aren't climbing they are some cool, cool cats. Plus, if you ever really wanted a grown-up size playground then this is the closest thing. No egos around just a bunch of grown ups climbing the walls. Give it a try.

Was good when they first opened but now I am paying $54 per month for the same routes again and again. They closed of routes to paying gym members during tuesday night league, if you arent part of the league. That doesn't make sense, I am still paying money to use the gym, routes should still be open to all paying members wether you are in a league or not. And whenever they have a conpetition, the same routes remain for months. The owners of the gym aren't even climbers. If you are going to open a business, you should open something you are passionate about. Climbers are serious about their climbing, and to go to a gym that isn't passionate about it feels really dissapointing. Considering cancelling and going back to the Curcuit. Rock haven gym is becoming very exclusionary. If you arent there for a league, or a competition, your $54 monthly fee doesn't get you much. Prices are also getting outrageous. To join the league you pay, $20 member, $45 non-member. $27 for a day pass... WHO IS PAYING THESE PRICES??

Tried the gym out for the first time. I had a fun time. Parking was really easy. The staff were nice and so were the other climbers. They had a lot of routs that are color coded by difficulty. They don't really have (or I missed) where some of the routes start, so a few were pretty confusing. I was stumped on some of their least challenging and was able to do some of the moderates with ease. Some routs of the same color got close to other routs, or... maybe it was all one and I was still confused.
Either way, I plan on going back and learning how to do it better. I would recommend trying this gym if you're interested in bouldering.

The woman behind the counter was so dismissive this morning couldn’t crack a single smile and wouldn’t stop drawling between our conversation. The punch pass is here are way too expensive when comparing it to all the other gyms in Portland. You can go to circuit downtown and get 10 punch passes for 180. There aren’t any starting holes for half the climbs. Even though they had a competition recently it doesn’t make sense that every single route on these walls are so spread out there should be at least one wall with a tighter set.

Not Going To Last
The gym it’s self is fun to climb but, this is for anyone looking to work at the gym.
I’ve known a couple people who have worked there now and I hear nothing but bad things about the management.
They broke the heart of one of my friends by saying they weren’t passionate about climbing enough to work there. This was someone who would not shut up about the sport and regularly took out of state climbing trips, They are on there second OSHA violation after being open for only a couple months, they change your shift hours day of and get mad when they aren’t fallowed, they will hire you promising something and go back and change you job without telling you before they do so, They will flat out fire you with no warning or notice and lastly if you could not guess they have a high turn around rate. As a business owner I know this is bad practice to sustain a company or a community.
Every time I’ve been in there it’s been nothing but fake smiles and face community. I would not recommend this place.

Been waiting all summer for them to open and they finally did! Good routes rated by color rather than number, but each color can represent a range of ratings (red, for example is B, 0 or 1, while yellow is 0-2).

Best route setting in the metro area!
Routes are flowy and fun with plenty of challenge.
We spent 3 hours bouldering which we never do at our home gym...
All of the problems we tried had enormous grin factor! We don't really experience that at our home gym when bouldering...
Spacious with a calm vibe... plenty of sunlight...
Really nice set up! Love the walls and the color coded rating system...
Super fun!
My only suggestions:
*10 pass/punch - I've got a membership already, and my oldest is tied to his team, so with all those dues, can't really plunk down on another membership (although it's definitely a good deal), and paying the day rate each time is tough... some type of multi pass might be good...
*My youngest is 6.5 and he's an experienced climber, but he can't climb here - he'd get bored with the family area pretty quick. Maybe make an exception if kids can demonstrate they understand and can take direction...

SO excited. I've been whining about having to make a 40 minute commute one way just to go for a quick climb. Now there's a gym opening right down my street! Can't wait to see what you offer
